After fighting all year, there are no more rounds for the New York Mets. The towel has been thrown. It's over. The Mets fell to the San Diego Padres in the deciding Game 3 of their Wild Card Series. I could pretend this is some meticulous breakdown, but it's not. It's just raw emotion. With their backs against the wall, the New York Mets turned to Jacob deGrom in Game 2 to help bring them even in their series with the San Diego Padres. deGrom did just that, with the offense having a big night on the backs of Francisco Lindor, Pete Alonso, and Jeff McNeil. Buck Showalter also made some interesting choices in how he decided to use Edwin Diaz in this game, so I break that down and look ahead to Game 3, and how Buck and the Mets might try to map out use of their pictures. Max Scherzer was not good against San Diego in Game 1 of the Wild Card Series. Now, the Mets must turn to Jacob deGrom in Game 2 to save their season, as he goes up against lefty Blake Snell. We talk (very little) about Scherzer's meltdown in Game 1, before constructing the best lineup for Game 2, and mapping out how to handle the pitching staff. I was only intending to talk for like 10 minutes, and went over 25. I sat in the stench of this loss for a few hours before hitting the record button. I had a lot to get off my chest. Not only does Steve Cohen bring his checkbook to the New York Mets, which is unlike what we've seen before, but he also brings a social media presence. The new Mets owner has been on social media recently interacting with fans and letting people know what they can expect when he takes the Zoom podium this coming week to address the media. We also found out that Francisco Lindor will not be a Cleveland Indian on Opening Day in 2021. I take a look at what it might take to get him, and what gambles the Mets might be taking in doing so. I also take a look at Michael Conforto's 2020 season, and how things are looking for him going into 2021. All that, plus, this day in Mets history. What a long strange trip it's been. From the first time Steve Cohen bought the team, to this past week when he actually did, it has been a wild ride. It's over now, though. Cohen owns the Mets, and it already feels like things are changing. I also talked about all the players that have unexpectedly had their 2021 options declined, and who might be targets for the Mets. Plus, the decision by the Tampa Bay Rays to remove Blake Snell from Game 6 of the World Series, and what that says about the state of baseball. Host Michael Smith was a little under the weather last week, but he's back and better than ever and ready to wrap up the Mets' 2020 season. We'll talk about the abysmal performance against Tampa Bay and Washington, which led to the Mets finishing last in the NL East. (You read that right.) We'll also talk about the performances of the teams that finished in front of them and how they could've gotten in the playoffs. Plus, we'll evaluate some of the more important players on this team, Luis Rojas as manager, and Brodie Van Wagenen's job as GM. Six games. Three with Philadelphia. Three with Atlanta. 5-1 was desired. 4-2 was necessary. The Mets got out - stumbled out - at 3-3. There are 7 games left. They play the first-place Rays, then four with the last-place Nationals. They're mathematically alive, but do they still have a realistic chance? That discussion, plus, this week in Mets history.
