This week's Mixtape Rewind goes to our most downloaded episode of all-time. Our countdown of bullpen closer entrance songs. The bullpen door swings open, and suddenly the energy in the stadium shifts. A familiar song begins to play, and everyone knows what comes next – the closer is about to take the mound. Baseball's most pressure-packed moments have their own soundtrack, and in this episode, Matt and Samer break down the most iconic entrance songs in baseball closer history. From unexpected choices that became superstition-fueled traditions to deliberately intimidating anthems designed to strike fear into opposing batters, these musical selections reveal the psychology behind baseball's specialized relief pitchers. The episode takes listeners through surprising stories – like Craig Kimbrell adopting "Let It Go" from Frozen after his wife swapped his walk-up music on Women's Day, or John Smoltz strategically using ABBA's "Dancing Queen" to throw off opponents. You'll discover how Kenley Jansen's commitment to geography-based entrance music follows him from team to team, and why Edwin Diaz's entrance set to "Narco" suddenly exploded in popularity. As Matt and Samer approach their top picks, they analyze what makes certain songs particularly effective for the closer role – from instantly recognizable intros to lyrics that perfectly complement the situation. The tolling bells that announced Trevor Hoffman's arrival, the Irish rhythms that energized Fenway Park for Jonathan Papelbon, and of course, the definitive closer anthem that accompanied the greatest reliever of all time, Mariano Rivera.Whether you're a baseball fanatic or just appreciate the perfect marriage of music and sports, this countdown reveals how these carefully chosen songs transform ordinary pitching changes into theatrical moments that energize fans and intimidate opponents. The Mets beat the Phillies; Juan Soto's timeout angered the Phillies, while Willie praised Francisco Lindor. The Yankees and Giancarlo Stanton continued their success against the Nationals. C-Lo's update highlighted Brandon Nimmo's walk-off hit, Edwin Diaz's save, and Jonah Tong's upcoming MLB debut. Jerry and Willie deemed Stanton a Hall-of-Famer. The Yankees gained on the Blue Jays. Hour 1 Jerry and Willie Colon fill in for Boomer and Gio, discussing the start of college football season, which Willie and Eddie love, unlike NFL-fan Jerry. They feel old watching sons of players they grew up with. The Mets beat the Phillies, with controversy around Juan Soto's timeout and appreciation for Francisco Lindor. Willie hopes parabolic mics and this series turn the Mets around. The Yankees and Giancarlo Stanton continue their success against the Nationals. C-Lo's update covers Brandon Nimmo's walk-off, Edwin Diaz's save, and Jonah Tong's upcoming MLB debut, which Jerry believes will spark the team. Jerry and Willie agree Stanton is a Hall-of-Famer and enjoys playing outfield. The Yankees gained a game as the Blue Jays blew a lead. The Giants waived Tommy DeVito, and the Jets cut Malachi Corley. Finally, Jerry asks Willie about Burning Man, leading to a discussion of his sandstorm experience in Arizona, whether he could perform in an "orgydome" at his age, and which former teammates and show crew members he'd take. Hour 2 The hour begins with the engagement announcement of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce. Willie discusses prenups, having one himself, while others on the show do not. Eddie sees prenups as a sign of mistrust. Jerry wonders if the engagement will help Kelce focus on the upcoming season. A caller provides a female perspective on prenups. C-Lo, who also lacks a prenup, provides an update. Jerry and Willie note that cheating isn't exclusive to men. In sports, the Mets beat the Phillies, Giancarlo Stanton led another Yankee win, and Shedeur Sanders made the Browns' initial 53-man roster. The hour concludes with Jerry telling Willie about Shaun Morash's bet that Travis Kelce will incorporate Taylor Swift's last name into his. If so, Evan will take his wife's name as payment. Jerry and Willie agree with Evan's stance but wouldn't have risked the same wager. Willie emphasizes athletes' need to protect earnings, especially in the NFL. Hour 3 The hour began with a discussion on Micah Parsons' hold-in and alleged back injury, with Willie and Jerry expecting a deal, though Willie notes the difficulty of returning to play immediately. NFL cutdown day saw the Jets release Malachi Corley, prompting Willie to suggest they need another receiver. Willie also explained how small-school players are scouted, calling the combine overrated. C-Lo returned with an update after a segment on the Jerry Jones Netflix documentary, which C-Lo and Jerry are enjoying. The conversation then shifted to concussion protocols then versus now. The Mets beat the Phillies after Ryan Helsley blew a save and are going for a sweep tonight. The Yankees won against the Nationals with Luis Gil pitching five strong innings, saved by Tim Hill. The Yankees and Mets will play on 9/11 next year, with the season starting unusually early on March 25th. C-Lo presented musical clips, including Evan and Shaun singing "Tong" and Gary, Keith, and Ron singing "Take Me Out to the Ballgame," leading to a discussion on karaoke songs. The hour concluded with Jerry sharing a coincidence related to a small college and then discussing excitement for college football. Finally, Jerry recounted a story about a man in Wisconsin who faked his death to leave his family and meet a woman, now facing jail time. Hour 4 The final hour begins with Jets radio voice Bob Wischusen, following Willie's story about Mike Tomlin using “In the Air Tonight” to motivate his team. Bob discusses the Jets' potential for a good season, expressing optimism about their chances of playing meaningful games in December. C-Lo returns for his final update, where Willie learns about "Al" after CBS Sports Network aired Jerry's "fraud" clip. Ryan Helsley blew the Mets' lead, but they won in the 9th. Giancarlo Stanton drove in all five Yankees runs in their win, leading Jerry to call him a first-ballot Hall-of-Famer. C-Lo wonders what Travis Kelce had left to say proposing to Taylor Swift, while Jer ...
C-Lo is back and discusses Brandon Nimmo's walk-off, Edwin Diaz's save, and Jonah Tong's upcoming debut. Jerry believes youth can spark a team. Giancarlo Stanton, a no-doubt Hall of Famer, enjoys playing outfield. The Yankees gained a game as the Blue Jays blew a lead.
Mets manager Carlos Mendoza spoke with the media following the team's resilient win against the Phillies. Carlos discussed Edwin Diaz's impressive relief outing, the team's recent offensive explosion, the importance of making the most of these opportunities, what Carlos saw from Sean Manaea tonight, and the other performances from the bullpen.
Evan Roberts passionately breaks down Carlos Mendoza's decision to use Edwin Diaz in the eighth inning, praising the Mets manager for a move he believes is both strategic and long overdue. Roberts argues that a team's best reliever should be used in the highest-leverage situation, regardless of the inning. He specifically points to the three-batter minimum rule, which makes it far riskier to "mess around" with a less reliable pitcher when the opponent's best hitters are due up. By bringing in Diaz early to face the top of the Mariners' order, Mendoza minimized the chance of a rally, a mindset Roberts enthusiastically agrees with. He even speculates that Mendoza may have been listening to his very own podcast, highlighting the move as a sign of a new, more aggressive and logical approach to managing the bullpen. The prodigal son returns—Farace is back behind the mic and instantly claims credit for the Mets' latest turnaround. Rodriguez, Keith, and Producer Joe (as always, holding things down behind the wall) join him for another jam-packed episode, and the Mets have actually given them something to smile about heading into the All-Star break.First up: David Peterson is officially an All-Star, joining Edwin Diaz, Lindor, and Alonso on the NL squad—because nothing says “2024 Mets” like David Peterson with an ASG patch. Meanwhile, the biggest snub in baseball? Juan Soto, and you can expect a full-blown Farace rant aimed straight at Michael Kay, who just can't let go and still monitors Soto like he's waiting for him to put on pinstripes again. Michael, buddy, it's over. Let it go.The Mets just took 2 of 3 from both the Brewers and the Yankees at Citi Field, then split the first two in Baltimore to start the road trip. Offense is finally waking up—especially the Fab Four of Nimmo, Lindor, Soto, and Alonso, who are all starting to heat up and look dangerous in the lineup. On the mound, reinforcements are coming: Senga and Manaea are both set to return this weekend, and the rotation is finally getting healthy at the right time. The crew will debate—do you trade Starling Marte or keep the outfield depth for the stretch run? With the Royals up next and the All-Star break just around the corner, the boys have plenty to dig into.Expect dry humor, a little therapy for Keith's stats addiction, Producer Joe's random hot takes, and Rodriguez demanding respect for the Citi Field crowd. Farace will probably find a way to make it all about himself—and Michael Kay. Let's put it in the books—no Yankee tears allowed. #PiitB #PutItInTheBooks #Mets

Send us a textCal Raleigh aka 'The Big Dumper' hit his 26th home run this week to lead #MLB. If #Mets Tylor Megill was traded to Seattle they'd become a battery meaning the "Big Drip" would pitch to the "Big Dumper". Can we see that happen please? #Braves have lost 8 of 10 and are making the task of reaching the postseason increasingly difficult. Phillies have lost 9 of 10 and now lost Bryce Harper to another injury. #Cubs are still looking good. #Padres Manny Machado got his 2,500th hit this week and he's played more games than any player since 2015. Is he a HOFer. We think so. #Dbacks are a disappointment as are the #RedSox and #Orioles. How about #Royals? Shouldn't they be better? #Tigers have been great and #Guardians will hang around w #Twins. Mets season so far has featured pitchers over-performing expectations and hitters like Soto and Nimmo underperforming. Can it last? We have our doubts. The bullpen has also been excellent led by Edwin Diaz who looks like prime "Sugar" and arms that find ways to get outs. Manager Carlos Mendoza has already become one of the best in the game. Can Pete Alonso keep it up? Francisco Lindor continues to play at a Hall of Fame level every day. What will the team do with Brett Baty, Mark Vientos, Luisangel Acuna and Ronny Mauricio? They all cannot get playing time. And Jeff McNeil is starting to produce wherever he plays. Intro & Outro music this season courtesy of Mercury Maid! Check them out on Spotify or Apple Music! The Islanders have fired their radio broadcast team and it looks like they won't have one next season.
Mets trainers found Edwin Diaz has one leg longer than the other. They said they fixed it, which doesn't make any sense at all. In the final segment of the hour, we took a call from a doctor on someone having one leg longer than the other.
Giants' Kadarius Toney pick questioned; Gio wonders if they vetted him. Sanders' draft drop discussed; Phil Simms says NFL evaluation is the reason, Boomer cites extensive scouting. Bruce Beck interviewed Carter on Giants. ESPN shut down Chris Russo on Belichick's girlfriend. The Yankees won (Judge triple). Mets tied game in 10th (Alonso), then won it; Edwin Diaz's leg length discrepancy "fixed". The hour ends with a doctor's call on leg length differences.

Hour 2 Giants' Kadarius Toney pick questioned; Gio wonders if they vetted him. Sanders' draft drop discussed; Phil Simms says NFL evaluation is the reason, Boomer cites extensive scouting. Islanders' radio team firing angers caller; Gio suggests streaming, Boomer calls it "bush league" and hopes for reconsideration. Jerry's update follows Boomer's high school football photo evaluation. Hour 3 Joe Schoen's son's Jaxson Dart reel sparks Giants draft speculation. A caller asks about Phil Simms unretiring his number for Abdul Carter (unlikely). Draft drops of Sapp/Marino were recalled. Jerry updates: Al thinks Carter is too small for the NFL. Mike Ditka interviewed Boomer (1993 clip). Gary Cohen calls Marte's Mets walk-off (7th straight win). Rangers extend GM Drury; Boomer reacts. Hour 4 Tonight's NFL Draft: Sanders' surprising drop worries Boomer, who initially saw him as a Giants pick but now he's falling, possibly due to unwanted attention. Boomer also ponders Cousins and Rodgers. Phil Simms labeled Jaxson Dart "pudgy," adding to his draft concerns. Jerry's final update includes Milroe, Dart, and Carter discussing their Giants' interactions. Mets secure their 7th straight win (Soto's outfield assist). Yankees avoid a sweep (Judge's triple). Jerry's update featured Mike Breen's call of the Knicks' Game 2 loss, with Thibs discussing the need to win differently.
