The Los Angeles Angels made a drastic move to put six players on waivers on Tuesday, shaking up the rest of Major League Baseball. Could the Mets get into the fun of the waiver period as a team with priority on the wire to get an extended look at an impending free agent like Lucas Giolito or Harrison Bader? Host Ryan Finkelstein discusses what is going on around MLB with this crazy waiver period and how it could impact the Mets. Carlos Carrasco is the most likely fallout from this waiver deadline for the Mets, as he could get claimed and go off the Mets books. Also, Ryan discusses Kevin Parada's promotion to Double-A and whether the Mets should reward Carlos Cortes for his hot stretch in Triple-A with a promotion to the big leagues. Last night was the third straight game in which the Mets got fewer than five innings of work from their starting pitcher, with Tylor Megill exiting the mound in Atlanta having recorded just 14 outs. That was the same number as David Peterson on Monday night, and two more than Carlos Carrasco managed on Sunday in St. Louis.Carrasco has had 10 starts of fewer than five innings this season, matching his total of a year ago, and becoming the first Mets starter to have multiple seasons of such futility. The record is 11 starts where no amount of offense would have qualified the pitcher for the win, set unsurprisingly in 1962, by Jay Hook — who did complete 13 of his 34 starts that year, too. Glendon Rusch completed one of his 33 starts in 2001, and also got bounced early 11 times to match Hook.Along with Carrasco, the Mets have had Al Jackson in 1963 and Jack Fisher in 1965 reach double figures in this sorry category. So, never more than one pitcher in a season, although they've been close: Jackson had nine in 1962, as did Galen Cisco in ‘65. Gary Gentry and Nolan Ryan each had nine in 1971, as did the trio of Mark Bomback, Ray Burris, and John Pacella in 1980. Peterson is one away from making it another sour trifecta. It was the 1980 Mets who set the team record for this with 58 games in which a pitcher failed to get through five innings. Last year, they got to 40. It's not September yet, and they're at 38, with Carrasco one away from tying the team record, Megill now at eight, and Peterson with seven. The remaining 13 of those starts: three apiece by Joey Lucchesi, Max Scherzer, and Kodai Senga, two by Denyi Reyes, and one each by José Butto and Justin Verlander. This is a public episode. Hour 2: Jerry wonders what the Mets lineup could look like if Pete Alonso and Francisco Lindor get hot and play like they did on Thursday night. The Mets saved their season this week. Jerry says proceed with caution because they haven't gained ground the last few nights even though they've won their games. This weekend's series with the Padres is a big one and the Mets have their two aces lined up. Will that finally work out for them? Jerry thinks Sal missed the boat not trademarking “Merry Buckmas”. The Yankees don't look great but still win more often than not so it's hard to go nuts. CLo returns and starts with the Mets big win. The 3B umpire forgot to make a call on one of Francisco Lindor's triples. Francisco Alvarez said next time you don't like my homeruns strike me out. Sal LOVES what he sees and hears from Alvarez. Enough to buy his road gray jersey. The three guys have varying views on the most rewatchable Christmas movies. Sal says something special is brewing in Queens but Jerry says let's relax. Gunnar Henderson was one of many Orioles to have a great night against Luis Severino. Sal hates Matt Blake's answer about Severino's struggles. Aaron Boone got testy when asked to evaluate his left fielders defensive performance. It's hard to comprehend how some Yankees prospects have flamed out AFTER looking like stars early in their careers. In the final segment of the hour, Jerry and Sal wonder if Oswald Peraza or Estevan Florial will get a chance this season. Hour 3: Jerry plays “Sal's bunch of crap” and asks for his instant reaction to headlines. First up: Tom Brady might be dating Kim Kardashian. Sal approves. What exactly happened with Victor Wembanyama, his security guard and Britney Spears. Sal doesn't need to see what happens at celebrity parties. Sal is into reality TV. Will he care about the new reality show featuring NFL QBs? You bet he will. Why are people throwing things at artists on stage? Zoo thinks it's all an attempt to go viral. Jerry is taking his wife to see P!NK on a Monday night in Wisconsin. CLo returns but before we get to him, Jerry shares old traveling stories with Sal from when they called Columbia games together. Pete Alonso hit a homer right after Keith Hernandez said he's been off lately. Francisco Alvarez has the look of someone you shouldn't mess with. The Braves have played insanely good baseball since last May 31. Gunnar Henderson torched Luis Severino and the Yankees. Sal wants to ask questions in a postgame press conference to call out the BS. Carlos Rodon will make his debut tonight. Was Sal too critical back in the day? In the final segment of the hour, Jerry and Sal wonder where Damian Lillard will end up. Sal wants the Blazers to stay strong and not cave to his demands. Jerry thinks Lillard and Jalen Brunson can exist in the same backcourt. Sal likes that the Knicks are being patient and waiting for the right big move. Jerry wonders if that move could still possibly happen this summer. Hour 4: The great Ian Eagle joins Jerry and Sal for his annual summer visit - and possibly the last one with Sal moving to middays. Ian was honored with the National Sportscaster of the Year Award. Ian tries to open Sal's eyes to the value of the NBA's new in-season tournament. Ian is getting ready to call Jets games with Aaron Rodgers at QB for Gang Green. CLo is here for his final update of the day. Francisco  Lindor went 5-for-5 with two triples and a HR. He was a double shy of the cycle and has great numbers this year except for batting average. Who was Hoot Evers? In Moment of the Day, Sal had to sugarcoat some awful performances back when he was doing color commentary for Columbia. In the final segment of the show, Jerry says so long to Sal with this possibly being their final show together. Sal is excited to get started with Brandon Tierney on the midday show.

Jerry and Sal are together one last time and Sal has a message for everyone on this Feel Good Summer Friday: MEEERRY BUCKMAS! The Mets are back and are going to the playoffs while the Yankees are done. Not really, but the Yankees had a disappointing loss to the Orioles to split the series and are having a very strange season. The Yankees tried to make an infielder into an outfielder and Sal doesn't understand how they're over .500. Jerry says they're good but not great. They will have some interesting decisions to make before the trade deadline. Sal begs the Mets to do something with this opportunity and says Carlos Carrasco's 8 inning effort gave him a “sports semi”.

CLo is here but first the guys discuss Sal's adventures after the show on Thursday. The Mets won big to complete a sweep in Arizona. Francisco Lindor went 5-for-5 the day after being sick and needing an IV. Sal liked seeing the Mets show some fire when Francisco Alvarez was hit by a pitch. The Orioles crushed Luis Severino. Sal says the Yankees have to address Severino's struggles somehow. Aaron Boone said Severnio is fine physically. How can that be true with the way he is pitching? Boone sounds miserable and the TV camera caught him picking his nose this week. DJ LeMahieu is washed up.

Hour 1: Sal is quick to cut off Jerry's open and scream that THE METS ARE BACK. Sal says Alvarez's HR was a Piazza-like moment. The season is back on. Sal has fully been sucked in. Jerry thinks 2-2 in the last 4 games before the break is good enough but Sal wants 3-1. The Mets have the talent to go on a real run. CLo is here but first the crew discusses signing up for Threads in case Twitter goes away. Jerry and Sal have some thoughts on CLo's outfit. Francisco Alvarez saved the Mets with two strikes and two outs in the 9th. Sal might get an Alvarez jersey. The Yankees bullpen had a very rare off night and the Orioles won their first game of this series. Jimmy Cordero was suspended for the rest of the season. Cameraman Pete Stendel was hit by an errant throw but gave a thumbs up leaving the field. The Nationals wanted the umpires to check Elly De La Cruz's bat and they did. Later on De La Cruz hit a 455 foot homerun and turned to point at the bat as the ball was leaving the yard. In the final segment of the hour, Jerry says it was strange to see three Yankees relievers all not have it on the same night. Sal says it was a disappointing loss but not a bad one because the bullpen can't be perfect every night. Tonight's start is a big one for Luis Severino and the Yankees with a chance to win this series. Hour 2: Jerry explains the NBA's in-season tournament to Sal and Sal strongly dislikes the idea. Both Jerry and Sal are highly skeptical that this will work. They don't like the format and want an incentive for the winning team if the tournament is going to exist. CLo returns and starts with Gary Cohen going nuts (in a good way) when Francisco Alvarez tied the game with 2 outs and 2 strikes in the 9th inning last night. Sal believes in the Mets again. Salma Hayek looks terrific at age 56. CLo has audio of the call from last night's Yankees game that Sal thought wasn't great. Jerry and CLo think Sal is being too tough. The bullpen finally cracked a bit and the Orioles won the game. Cubs manager David Ross had an expletive-filled tirade crushing umpires. In the final segment of the hour, Jerry clarifies some details on the NBA in-season tournament and Sal still thinks it's a waste of time. There needs to be a real payoff for the winning team. Hour 3: Jerry says last night's win could send the Mets on the kind of run they need and Sal says it again: the Mets are back! Last night gave Sal goosebumps. Sal had given up but he's back in. Last night was the kind of game that rewards you as a fan. Jerry wants Sal to quickly address a few baseball stories. Will the Angels trade Ohtani? Is Elly De La Cruz the most exciting rookie in the last 20 years? Cameraman Pete Stendel was hit by an errant throw last night. The Braves hit a ton of home runs but Sal doesn't think they'll win a World Series. Luis Arraez will finish under .350. Jordan Hicks made one of the worst throws ever to cost the Cardinals a game. CLo returns and the guys talk about their little league bats. Arizona has a very deep center field. Jerry thought “band box” was “ban box”. A look at extreme MLB outfield dimensions. Randy Vazquez pitched very well again but the Yankees lost. Could Matt Harvey make it back to the big leagues as a reliever? Sal took heat yesterday for struggling with Jerry's American history quiz. In the final segment of the hour, Jerry just had a weird bathroom experience. Sal misses reading the paper and might start if he has to start commuting by train. Hour 4: It's been a Mets morning after their comeback win in Arizona. Francisco Alvarez has been a lifesaver. Jerry wants Carlos Carrasco to give the team a chance tonight. The Yankees have a big chance to win a series today. They are holding their own without Judge but the AL is so tough that treading water might not be good enough. CLo is here for his final update of the day and has promised some great sound. Jerry can't believe he's 16 years older than Andrew Chafin. The Mets had a comeback win and the Yankees lost to the Orioles. Davey Martinez whined about Elly De La Cruz. Jordan Hicks made one of the worst throws ever to lose a game. Chris Russo thinks Adam Silver made ESPN fire Jeff Van Gundy. Jerry thinks it was simply a financial decision. Stephen A. Smith addressed his haters. Allan Houston knew Jalen Brunson was special while watching a very young Jalen mimic Knicks stars. Mike Fracnesa ripped the Jets for wanting something they have made very clear they do not want. Hard Knocks isn't what it used to be. Everyone is interested in this potential Jerry Jones documentary. In Moment of the Day, Sal doesn't understand the appeal of the NBA's in-season tournament. Jerry returns for an update but first has to set up Boomer's therapy machine. The Yankees came from behind to beat the Rangers and take 2 of 3 in the series. Aaron Boone explained Josh Donaldson's benching and what he expects moving forward. Carlos Rodon made another rehab start. The Mets bullpen melted down in Philly. Should Buck have used his top relievers? Did Brett Baty's error cost the Mets the game? Boomer says the Mets need to follow Bill Belichick's simple mantra: Do your job. Hour 1: We start with some football today as both the Jets and Giants commented on DeAndre Hopkins. Gio called him ‘the James Harden of the NFL' and doesn't want him here. Boomer said the Giants can't afford him and the Jets have no room for him. He does not have a great reputation in the league as far as work ethic. The Athletic put out an article about Aaron Rodgers wanting to get Brian Gutekunst fired. Boomer said Rodgers and Tom Brady were both with their original teams way too long. Going to Tampa and Rodgers to the Jets gave them new energy. Jerry is here for his first update of the day and starts with the Mets beating the Phillies in Queens. Mark Canha had all 4 RBIs. In the final segment of the hour, Garret Wilson and Brett Baty grew up together and Wilson got to throw out the first pitch. Howie Rose also threw out the first pitch and it didn't go as well. Boomer talked about how messy the Carton & Roberts studio is and he blamed Craig.
