Ep 116: Mets Dominate Reds, Prospect Report with Matt Eddy from Baseball America

Mets'd Up

Easy series. The Mets continued their winning ways with a sweet of the Cincinnati Reds this week at Citi Field. Chris Bassitt, Carlos Carrasco all gave length. Francisco Lindor mashed. Tyler Naquin, Daniel Vogelbach, and Darin Ruf stayed hot. This series was so easy that the Mets didn't trail for a single moment. None! After wrapping that up we talk to friend of the show Matt Eddy, executive editor of Baseball America, about the Mets farm system. He takes us through their top 30, new draft picks, Francisco Álvarez, Brett Baty, and a few sleepers. Always a great time with Matt. We close with a preview of a very important Phillies series this weekend. Hope we see everyone at the ballpark for these games! Host Peter Kennedy is joined by The Designated Hitters Alec Argento and Andrew Calagna to talk all things Mets and Yankees with their established post trade deadline rosters, current play the last two weeks, and a final stretch outlook. (0:00 - 1:07:00) The Yankees and Mets both made moves at the MLB trade deadline but perhaps not the splashes fans were longing for. How will the Yankees deal with their injuries, pitching staff coming back to earth, and an incomplete lineup? Is Frankie Montas enough to re-solidify this rotation? Are these last two weeks a part of normal ups and downs of a great season or should Yankees fans start to seriously worry? The Mets made moves more so in the margins than with waves: Vogelbach, Ruf, and Naquin - but did these moves do enough to create a talent filled hole-less roster? How good can this pitching staff be with deGrom back, Max Scherzer, Chris Bassit, and Carlos Carrasco? Plus Edwin Diaz's spectacular stuff and incredible closing run. Plus, we debate the Mets and Yankees current fan rivalry and if Yankees fans really 'want the smoke'. Are Yankees fans mentally hedging with their attitude towards their cross-town rival? (1:07:00 - 1:19:30) We give our first look takes at the New York Giants and discuss what Daniel Jones and co. need to do to consider this season a success. (1:19:30 - 1:30:32) Lastly, we discuss our level of excitement for She-Hulk the latest Disney + MCU property about to drop and how the D+ series are shaping the MCU. CLo returns with Met highlights including one of Tyler Naquin's two home runs in his Citi Field debut as a Met. In the final segment of the hour, Gio recaps his night at the Walker Hayes concert and a caller vouches for the type of vision quest Aaron Rodgers went on. Hour 3: The 8am hour opens with Gio remarking that he can't think of anyone who has had a path like Edwin Diaz in New York. He was awful and a joke when he got here and now he's dominating and confident. Gio and Sal like what they are seeing from the Mets and Gio is not worried about the Braves. A chat about the Braves missing Freddie Freeman leads to a discussion about libel laws and reporters or other media members being way off from the truth. CLo returns to share everything we need to know about the Mets 6-4 win over the Braves. Sal recalls getting into it once with John Rocker at Shea Stadium. Gabe Kapler is spending time with Aaron Rodgers in crazy town and Bill Belichick did not use kid gloves when answering a young reporter's question. Keep or Kut - Pete (@PeteBBaseball) and Chad (@chadyoung) pick two hitters and one pitcher each that, for whatever reason, they just cannot quit. They also break down a particular keeper situation that is probably similar to what many fantasy players probably find themselves in regarding a particular infielder on the Royals. Join Pitcher List Plus and get an ad-free website and access to the Pitcher List Discord community, while supporting the podcast. Timestamps 2:30 - Brayan Bello's debut, Garrett Whitlock's return looming, and the Red Sox pitching in general 10:30 - Pete cannot quit the red-hot Nick Senzel but his rationale fails to convince Chad to buy in.  20:18 - No surprises here: Chad cannot quit Trent Grisham. Pete is not enthralled with his last 162 GP. 30:34 - Jesse Winker is a buy-low target for both Pete and Chad. As a matter of fact, the window may have closed already! 39:52 - Chad goes back and forth on J.D. Davis, who sports some pretty impressive underlying numbers when making contact.  49:38 - Pete is enjoying what he's got from Corey Kluber so far this year, despite the lack of strikeouts.  59:24 - Carlos Carrasco is easy to root for, and someone Chad has no interest in quitting on.  1:08:40 - What to do with an expensive-to-keep Bobby Witt Jr.? A lot to be decided by the second half of the season, but Pete and Chad discuss it here and now.  Get PL+ and join our community: https://pitcherlist.com/plus

Rough series everyone. Carlos Carrasco had another rough start against the Astros…Yordan Álvarez is a menace. Then Justin Verlander barely outlasted Taijuan Walker in one of the best pitching duels of the season. Edwin Díaz was electric again but Drew Smith gave up the big one. Upsetting, but it happens. Then, we move into our Prospect Report and focus on Francisco Álvarez, Ronny Mauricio, and Brett Baty. We end with a very thorough preview of the rarely seen Texas Rangers and break down their oddly interesting roster. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
