The NFL is out to ban the Tush Push and it's an outrage. In this episode TK discusses that, the impact on the Eagles, JT Realmuto's early struggles and more!!
Bryce Harper and Kyle Schwarber homered, and Alec Bohm and JT Realmuto drove runs in extra innings, as the Phillies beat the Washington Nationals 7-4 on Opening Day. Zack Wheeler threw six strong innings, giving up just one solo homerun to Keibert Ruiz. MacKenzie Gore was even better, striking out 12 Phillies hitters in six innings. Jose Alvarado bounce back season begins. And we're joined by Andrew Golden of the Washington Post to get the Washington Nationals perspective, as we head into the weekend.
The Word of the Day is Scenario (0:00-8:59) The baseball season unfolds over a lengthy 162-game schedule, emphasizing endurance rather than quick bursts of performance. Given this context, Dave Dombrowski is likely to be proactive, as he has a history of making trades around the deadline. In an ideal situation, the Phillies could emerge as the top team in baseball. Conversely, in a less favorable outcome, they may secure the second Wild Card spot in the National League. (8:59-16:52) We react to the Twitter Poll. Which of these two scenarios is more likely to happen? Phillies win World Series 51.1% Phillies miss Postseason 48.9% (16:52-28:50) Tyrone wants Brandon Marsh to be a .240 hitter vs Left-Handed Pitching. He cannot hit .190 if he is playing every day. If that is the case then Justin Crawford will be a name to monitor around Memorial Day Weekend. (28:50-38:43) One area of focus will be the catcher position. The Phillies plan to reduce JT Realmuto's game appearances to alleviate his workload. Rafael Marchan is expected to serve as the backup, bringing notable power and switch-hitting capabilities to the team. He will be positioned in the lineup to ensure he is a more formidable presence than the previous backup catcher. Considering this, we will analyze the number of games JT should participate in and project what constitutes a successful season for the veteran catcher. Hour 2: Ike, Spike and Fritz are discussing the Phillies and if it would be a good idea to extend JT Realmuto before his final season under contract with the team.
Jack Fritz shares his Jackie Baseball Spring Training report and brings up if the Phillies should extend JT Realmuto before the season.
Hour 3: Ike, Spike and Fritz continue their Phillies conversation and discuss if Kyle Schwarber or JT Realmuto could receive extensions before the regular season begins.
(0:00-12:41) Ricky inquiries about Andrew's opinion on the Tush Push, noting that the Packers are among the NFL teams advocating for its prohibition. Andrew expresses skepticism regarding the likelihood of the play being banned, asserting that it remains a legal play. (12:41-20:53) A caller inquires about the backup catcher for the Phillies. Ricky outlines the possible candidates who could secure a spot on the major league roster. This role is crucial, especially considering that JT Realmuto may play fewer games behind the plate. (20:53-32:15) Barrett Brooks, a former offensive lineman for the Eagles and current analyst for NBC Sports Philadelphia, appears on the show to discuss the Eagles' offseason. He expresses concerns about the challenges of re-signing linebacker Zack Baun and suggests that the Eagles will prioritize strengthening their lines on both sides of the ball during the NFL Draft. (32:15-41:30) We now turn our attention to the phones and text messages for this segment of the program. The messages have primarily centered around Joel Embiid and the 76ers, as their season has been a significant disappointment. As the Philadelphia Phillies enter the 2025 MLB season, it is becoming clearer every year that JT Realmuto will require more rest, or at least spells from behind the plate. With the Phillies needing to have a backup catcher who can play meaningful innings this season, now is the time to move on from Garrett Stubbs and name Rafael Marchan the backup catcher for the 2025 season.

The word of the Day is Hangover (0:00-13:16) Ricky is confident that the Eagles will inspire Bryce Harper in the forthcoming season. He recognizes the admiration and support the Eagles have garnered and desires a similar experience for the Phillies. There are reports indicating that Bryson Stott had been managing an elbow injury, which reportedly caused him discomfort while batting last season. However, Tyrone analyzed his statistics and concluded that the injury did not significantly impact his swing (13:16-21:00) The Phillies have demonstrated impressive performances in the playoffs in recent years. However, their inability to secure a World Series title remains a significant concern. Ultimately, only a World Series championship will meet expectations. (21:00-34:55) Matt Gelb of The Athletic appears on the program to discuss the Phillies as they embark on Spring Training. He addresses the team's pitching rotation, shares insights on Trea Turner, and outlines the expectations surrounding JT Realmuto. (34:55-42:59) Tyrone is convinced that he has received the most dreadful text message ever. The sender expresses satisfaction with the Eagles' Super Bowl victory and feels no need for the Phillies, Sixers, or Flyers to secure their own championships. Tek & Prem welcome Coggin of Crossing Broad on the VetLine for the Phils 2024 eulogy. Another October ends without a parade down Broad Street, as the bats go silent, the bullpen collapses, and a division-rival dismisses them in 4 games. Many questions about this team abound, the makeup of the guys, the mental toughness and ability to perform when lights are brightest. Only a handful of Phils came to play and the rest of the team was essentially a shell of their regular season form, a form which saw the team win 95 games, the 6th-most in a single season in franchise history. The Eagles host the woeful Browns off the bye week and are fully healthy after the layoff. Jalen Hurts has many doubters to prove wrong and it remains to be seen if he will. The defense needs to produce pressure and there is no better time to start than against one of the worst offenses in football thus far. Historically, Cleveland holds a 14-10 record in Philly, but have dropped 5 of the last 6 games against the Birds overall.
