A look at ex-White Sox in the 2024 MLB Playoffs and Buck Showalter wants to manage on the South Side? --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/pinwheels-and-ivy/support
On the latest episode of the FutureSox Podcast Ian Eskridge and James Fox started with a look at the playoffs series that are currently underway, and noted a few ex-White Sox players that have been involved. They then transitioned to the recent rumor of Buck Showalter throwing his hat in the ring to manage the 2025 Southside club. Will the Sox go for another 65+ yo to helm the bench? They also go into who they think is the leading candidate at this particular moment. They moved to the AFL preview and some talk on some of the guys that will represent the White Sox in Glendale before moving to the International Scouting situation. The White Sox have fired scouts in the Dominican, Venezuela, Mexico, and Panama. Looks like a complete restructuring of the scouting system as had been suggested. They finished up the episode with a quick run through of the recent MLB Trade Rumors suggested arbitration numbers and who they cut or keep. A fun episode tonight with a lot of chat interaction.
According to Keith Law, Buck Showalter is angling for the open White Sox Manager position. Would Buck be a good fit for the South Side? Join the CHGO White Sox crew, Herb Lawrence, Vinnie Duber, and Sean Anderson as they discuss.
Garrett Wilson only has 20 receptions and he's playing with a Hall of Fame QB. Mets game 2 is tonight with Sean Manaea on the mound. A caller was very impressed with Jose Iglesias' slide into first base and how it sparked the team. We wonder if the Mets lineup will be the same tonight as it was yesterday. Boomer thinks Gio looks like JD Vance. The Mets won, so the calls are light today as Mets fans have ‘nothing to bitch about'. Jerry returns for an update but first Jerry is doing the Giants/Eagles game on the radio for Compass Media Networks. Boomer and Phil Simms will do the game with Jerry on the radio. Jerry starts with Mike Francesa's eulogy of Pete Rose. Boomer gave a different eulogy for Rose. Jerry has the sounds of Howie Rose as the Mets beat the Brewers in game 1. In the final segment of the hour, Carlos Mendoza made all the right moves in yesterday's game. It all worked out. There is a list of managers that took over for Buck Showalter and won the world series.
Hour 1 The Mets had a huge game 1 win in Milwaukee, scoring 8 runs without any RBIs from Alonso or Lindor. The Mets also didn't hit a HR and scored 8 runs. There is something special about this team. Luis Severino struggled early but settled in. The Jose Iglesias slide into first was the right play to make at that time. Jesse Winker and Willy Adames were jawing at each other after his triple down the line. How much fun would a Mets/Phillies NLDS be? Jerry is here for his first update of the day and starts with the sounds from Howie Rose as the Mets beat the Brewers. Jerry has all the postgame sound from the Mets key players in the game. The Braves lost to the Padres and a couple of ex-Yankees did them in. Jerry had highlights from the MLB Wild Card series. The Diamondbacks owner was asked about the Jordan Montgomery signing. He called it, ‘a horrible decision' and ‘our biggest mistake'. Aaron Rodgers was on with Pat McAfee and was asked about his relationship with Rob Saleh. There was some confusion of what Garrett Wilson said on his weekly radio spot about the Jets offense. Davante Adams has requested a trade from the Raiders. In the final segment of the hour, will Davante Adams be traded to the Jets? Boomer seems to think so. Boomer would not be surprised if he isn't a Jet next week. Rodgers seems pissed that his WRs are not where they're supposed to be when running routes. This will leave less opportunities for Garrett Wilson and he's going to want a huge contract. Boomer said he and Breece Hall have an ‘inflated view of themselves'. Hour 2 Garrett Wilson only has 20 receptions and he's playing with a Hall of Fame QB. In the final segment of the hour, Carlos Mendoza made all the right moves in yesterday's game. It all worked out. There is a list of managers that took over for Buck Showalter and won the world series. Hour 3 Phil Simms joins us in his weekly spot. We started with the Giants going to Seattle this week and the test it will be for their defense. We also talked about the problems the Jets had with the Broncos defense. Rodgers and his receivers were just not on the same page. Phil also thinks Davante Adams will wind up with the Jets. Gio straight up asked Phil, ‘is Rob Saleh a good head coach?' Jerry returns for another update and starts with the sounds of Howie Rose as the Mets took game 1 in Milwaukee. Jerry went around the MLB Wild Card games. Garrett Wilson was on ESPN radio and he talked about the routes he's running compared to last year. Boomer said he's questioning the offensive coordinator, but Gio doesn't think so. In the final segment of the hour, Lamar Odom is getting salmon sperm facials for anti-aging purposes. A lawyer said some big names will be mentioned in the Diddy lawsuit. Hour 4 Gio is nervous tonight for the Mets because they should win the game and that concerns him. Boomer said maybe this will be ‘a Pete Alonso game'. We talked more about the Jets potentially trading for Davante Adams and how it will affect the other WRs. A caller brought up ‘Front Row Amy' at the Brewers game again last night. We also talked about ‘walking bets' by Taylor Mathis. Al thinks Lucy Burdge started that. We also wondered why all the betting experts on social media are beautiful women. Jerry returns for his final ...

Buck Showalter talked about what he looks for in a player. He doesn't want a flat butt player or a player that already has a full beard. He has his reasons.
We continued our discussion on youth sports and how some parents get completely out of hand. C-Lo returns for an update and starts with the Yankees losing to the Orioles in ten innings. The Yankees retaliated by hitting two Orioles players after Aaron Judge got hit on the hand the night before. Buck Showalter talked about what he looks for in a player. He doesn't want a flat butt player or a player that already has a full beard. He has his reasons. Boomer talked about quarterbacks needing to be thick in the butt and thighs. In the final segment of the hour, Boomer said he watched the Fever vs the Mystics in the WNBA. The Mets are off and the Yankees are playing a day game, so Gio will watch the Netflix documentary, ‘Tell Them You Love Me', about a professor at Rutgers and a non-verbal person. The professor went to jail so it's pretty interesting.
Hour 1 The Grimace Mets finally lost a game after winning seven straight. The Yankees also lost to the Orioles and they have a defensive catcher problem with Jose Trevino. Yankees relievers hit two Orioles last night in retaliation for Aaron Judge getting hit the night before. Judge did not play last night. Boomer tried to talk about the Rangers and Barclay Goodrow and Gio couldn't handle it. Unfortunately he talked about it for quite a while. C-Lo is in for Jerry and is here for his first update of the day. Jerry took his family to Arizona, where it's going to be 113 degrees. C-Lo started with the Yankees loss to the Orioles and Gerrit Cole getting his first start of the season. The Mets winning streak is over and they play in Chicago starting tomorrow. In the final segment of the hour, Gio visited Gunnar yesterday and watched him ‘powerwash'. It did not go well. Gio understands, as the only tool in his toolbox is a checkbook. Hour 2 It seems to come up every year, retaliating by drilling the opposing team's hitter if they hit your guy. Gio thinks it's weird because we often talk about safety in sports, and then say you have to retaliate. The Yankees did it last night and it hurt them because the guy they hit scored. It does seem to make the fans happy, but it really didn't make much sense for them to do that. Will Aaron Judge be in the lineup today? We also somehow talked about Boomer always playing poorly in the Astrodome against the Oilers. C-Lo returns for an update and starts with a Devils trade for goalie Jacob Markstrom (Boomer insisted he start with that). He then went to Barclay Goodrow being claimed off waivers by the Sharks. Then we turned to baseball as Jose Trevino gave up another 4 steals. Gerrit Cole talked about his first start of the season. Brandon Tierney really wanted the Yankees to drill two Orioles. The Mets winning streak came to an end with a loss to the Rangers. We got into a discussion about mosquitos and how they suck our blood. In the final segment of the hour, a mom from Long Island called in to tell her side of the story from yesterday, when Jerry said there was almost a fight between parents at a little league game. A few callers came at her and she remained calm and stood her ground. Hour 3 We continued our discussion on youth sports and how some parents get completely out of hand. C-Lo returns for an update and starts with the Yankees losing to the Orioles in ten innings. The professor went to jail so it's pretty interesting. Hour 4 We talked more about the Yankees retaliating last night by hitting two Orioles hitters. We also heard from Joe Francisco, as his little league team was being badmouthed from some opponents in NJ. C-Lo returns for his final update of the day, but first Boomer tries to talk him into doing the 5-Borough Bike Tour next May. The Moment of The Day involves a little league mom defending her team's behavior and a caller telling her she's the problem with youth sports. In the final segment of the show, we are both getting texts about Team Francisco, a little league team on Long Island. Gio also talked about the lack of lovemaking if someone is staying at their house.

We are live from Vegas for Super Bowl week. Bad news for the Knicks as Jalen Brunson turned his right ankle late in the game last night against the Grizzlies. Kyrie was asked by a fan last night in Brooklyn why he didn't play this way with the Nets and he blamed Mayor Adams. Boomer loved that he took a shot at the Mayor as he has no control of the city. Gio said Kyrie did a lot of strange things in his tenure with the Nets that had nothing to do with the Mayor and the vaccines. Gio said he also got suspended for being an anti semite, are we forgetting about that? Randy Moss tweeted, ‘Someone got Moss'd' after Al confused the Hall of Famer with horse racing broadcaster, Randy Moss. That was the big Super Bowl story from Tuesday. Eddie walked to UNLV to get a t-shirt yesterday. It was a 6 mile round trip. Jerry is here for his first update and starts with Rutgers beating Maryland, so Boomer owes Jerry $1,000 cash. If Maryland won, Jerry would have had to eat a gummy. We heard from Chris Carlin on the call. Boomer, Gio and Jerry are golfing today and it's going to be cold. The Knicks beat the Grizzlies but we hear the play by play of when Jalen Brunson injured his ankle. Boomer thinks Mike Breen is doing more Knicks games because they're winning. Kyrie Irving returned to Brooklyn and a fan asked why he didn't play like this with the Nets and he blamed Mayor Adams. Joe Buck was on a podcast and thinks something bad will happen this week and it won't stay in Vegas. Gio thinks because it's Vegas, the teams and players are on high alert about not doing something stupid. Buck SHOWALTER was on the Jon Heyman podcast and talked about load management. He is not a fan. In the final segment of the hour, Boomer was the subject of a lot of interviews yesterday as part of CBS media day for the Super Bowl. Tony ROMO talked about sports gambling and said it makes the game feel less pure. Gio doesn't agree with that. Jim NANTZ said his favorite food is stone crab. Second favorite is popcorn. He also eats a hotdog at halftime of every game he does, but brings his own bottled ketchup. Boomer remembers a time doing a game with NANTZ where they had to stop by McDonalds on their way to the game.

Shannon Sharpe and Ochocinco are close to a million subscribers and want to drink cognac down the back when that happens. In the final segment of the hour, Jim Rome is leaving CBS Sports Network for X. Rome will join Tucker Carlson as a host over there. Tucker interviewed Vladimir Putin which is sure to upset some people. The mayor of Las Vegas doesn't seem to want the A's to move here. Boomer said it's a done deal, they are moving to Vegas. Eventually an NBA team will come to Vegas. Hour 3 It's been a quiet week so far in Vegas which is good for both teams involved. Boomer said both teams are staying 20 miles or so outside of the city. Coach COWHER told a story about putting in a defense the night before the Super Bowl that they used 39 times in the game against Seattle. Hines Ward was the MVP in that Super Bowl. Tory Holt is up for the Hall and Boomer says it's his time. There is a log jam at WR in Hall nominees right now. We went through some of the guys up for the Hall of Fame.
