The HeadsUpHPE Gametime Podcast aims to help teachers, both PE, and classroom, expand their PE Kitbag and their Teacher Toolkit. To do this, we explore a variety of games, lesson ideas, and strategies that teachers can use in order to get their students moving, having fun, and engaging with meaningful activities.
In this episode I share with you a fantastic way to introduce student to Target Games - through Dude Perfect, All-Sports Golf. To run this within a lesson, I generally watch a 3 - 5 minute segment of a 'Dude Perfect, All-Sports Golf Episode' so that the student understand the task - and then away we go. Students have the opportunity to participate in a fun, Target based game, and use a variety of Fundamental Movement Skills to do so. Meanwhile, it serves as a fantastic opportunity for the teacher to watch specific FMS of the students, or to move from group to group and offer feedback, or to build connections. As mentioned in the episode, thank you for following along throughout the year. Here is a Christmas-themed games booklet that has a number of games that I am sure your students will love! In this episode you will be introduced to the 'Superhero Sidekick'. The 'Superhero Sidekick' is a superhero-inspired teacher assistant that gets to wear a lanyard around their neck that sports a 'superhero sidekick' card that lists a number of jobs that they can assist with throughout the PE lesson. This is designed for students that cannot participate in a lesson due to an injury eg. a broken arm, allowing them to still play a meaningful and active role within your lesson. In this episode, I will explain a 3v3 Basketball concept that has had my students buzzing at lunch times. The idea was inspired by the NBA 2K games that are a huge hit with the student and allows students to play competitive Basketball during lunch breaks, in a safe and supportive environment. This involved an instant activity, success badges, and a number of modified Net & Wall games that had student engagement through the roof. Following this, you'll be introduced to a game called 'King/Queen of the Court', a Rock, Paper, Scissors based game that stems from one of my favorite games learned throughout my summer camp experience, 'Evolution'.
