We live in a world that moves faster than ever. Technology evolves constantly, opportunities shift quickly, and the traditional idea of knowing exactly where you will be in five years no longer applies the way it once did. Because of that, it becomes even more important to focus on what you can control right now.I share why having goals and structure matters, but also why you cannot become so attached to the future that you miss your present life. Your goals will evolve. Your direction may change. You may pause certain pursuits and come back to them later. That is part of the process. The key is maintaining an optimistic view of where you are going while staying rooted in who you are today. We also talk about how distractions, nostalgia, and constant stimulation make it harder than ever to stay present. It is easy to live in the past or obsess over the future. But your real life is happening right now. Your progress, your growth, and your connection to yourself all happen in the present moment. This episode reinforces the inside/out approach to life. Instead of chasing external outcomes hoping they will finally make you feel fulfilled, the real work is connecting with yourself first. Appreciating who you are, understanding where you have been, and intentionally moving forward in a way that aligns with you. This is not about having everything figured out. It is about staying present, staying intentional, and continuing to move forward one day at a time. Please share this episode with anyone you think would be interested in listening to it.Visit darylperrypodcast.com for links to the show page on each of the major podcast directories. In this special bonus episode recorded ahead of their full mindset conversation, Dwayne Kerrigan and Emma Murray reflect on a deeply personal topic: relationships. As Valentine's Day approaches, they explore how intimate relationships often absorb the stress, pressure, and emotional buildup from the outside world. Dwayne shares candidly about his own growth — recognizing how habitual reactions, unmet needs, and old internal stories can surface at home if they're not processed throughout the day. Emma adds insight into how unconscious patterns, primary questions, and survival wiring shape the way we show up with those we love most.Together, they discuss raising standards inside the relationship, practicing conscious awareness, meeting your partner's needs without expectation, and replacing self-judgment with grace. This short but powerful conversation reframes love not as grand gestures, but as attention, awareness, and intentional daily behavior.Episode Highlights:0:00 - Introduction: Valentine's Day as a renewal for relationships0:27 - Viewing Valentine's Day as a time for awareness and meeting needs1:23 - Why we release stress on loved ones instead of during the day2:41 - Holding different standards for work vs. intimate relationships3:43 - The importance of awareness in meeting your partner's needs4:34 - Breaking habitual negative response patterns in relationships5:11 - How relationship quality affects every area of life5:38 - "Chains of habit are too light to be felt until too heavy to be broken"6:06 - Treating your partner with conscious awareness7:14 - Focusing on relationship growth: reading, podcasts, and learning7:53 - Enjoying the process instead of fixating on an end state8:30 - Getting addicted to lighting up your partner9:10 - Managing anger and identifying emotional triggers9:52 - Using Byron Katie's four questions to examine stories we tell ourselves10:12 - Taking responsibility instead of projecting onto your partner10:30 - We're all learning - giving yourself and your partner grace11:54 - Appreciating yourself for being imperfectKey Takeaways:We often release built-up stress on the people we love mostAwareness creates choice inside intimate momentsLove grows when we actively meet one another's needsSelf-reflection prevents projectionGrace and ownership dissolve conflict faster than blameRelationships are built through process, not perfectionConscious love is practiced — not automaticQuotes:“There's nothing better in this world and nothing makes life feel greater than having an amazing relationship that is just full of love and abundance when it is going and operating at its peak level.” - Dwayne Kerrigan“ I didn't hold myself to the same standard inside the intimate relationship as I did in my professional life.” - Dwayne Kerrigan“If things are not good in your relationship, they're not good anywhere you go.” - Dwayne Kerrigan“I think our relationships are very based on just habitual...
In this episode, I share something that hit me hard during a half marathon the other day. Therapy has been opening up parts of my mind that I either suppressed or simply never explored properly. And while I was running, I realised something simple but powerful: most of our emotional pain lives in two places — the past and the future. The past can haunt us. Regrets, grief, mistakes, things we never dealt with properly. We either suppress it or we finally face it and learn from it. The future can scare us. What if it does not work out? What if I fail? What if something goes wrong? We catastrophise outcomes that have not even happened yet. And in between those two… is the present. The only place where life is actually happening. I talk openly about how much of my life I have spent either worrying about what might happen next or avoiding what has already happened. And how little time I truly spent just being here. Breathing. Appreciating. Enjoying the moment I am actually in. We chase the next milestone. The next goal. The next level. The next version of ourselves. And in doing that, we often miss the life that is already in front of us. In this episode, I share: – Why suppressing the past quietly shapes your future – How catastrophising tomorrow robs you of today – The simple weekly practice I am introducing to train myself to slow down – Why reaching your potential is not always about money or status, but about presence If you feel like life is moving too fast… If Mondays keep arriving before you have caught your breath… If you are constantly chasing the next thing… This one is for you. If you are ready to stop drifting between past regret and future anxiety, and start building structure around your present, you can join the next 5 Day Mission Reset here: https://consulting.boardmanjames.com/5daymissionresetdetails As always, keep showing up.

I've always loved how humour can sometimes tell the truth better than anything else, and Tim Minchin does exactly that in his now-famous “9 Life Lessons” talk: funny, sharp, and quietly profound. In this relaxed coffee chat, Brice, from @EsotericAtlanta, and I, walk through each lesson and explore what they actually look like in real life… not just as quotes on a screen, but in how we think, move, work, parent, care for our bodies, and treat other people. It's less “self-help”... more common sense.Less chasing happiness… more building meaning.Less clinging to opinions… more learning how to think clearly. We talk about:• Why you don't need one giant “dream” to have a good life• The difference between happiness and meaning• Humility (and remembering how much of life is luck)• Moving your body so your mind can follow• Being willing to question your own beliefs• Teaching and sharing without ego• Defining yourself by what you love — not just what you're against• Slowing down and actually enjoying the ride⚠️ We discuss the ideas only, we don't play the original clip here (copyright). If you haven't seen Tim's talk yet, it's worth a watch:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZpMYK1RXDNg————————————————

What happens when grief hits your relationship? Every single one of us will face it — but how you handle it as a couple can either bring you closer together or tear you apart. In this episode, John and Nicole get brutally honest about navigating grief while in a relationship. From losing parents to watching your partner struggle, they break down the uncomfortable truths nobody talks about — including why your grief isn't a free pass to treat people badly, and why shutting your partner out actually hurts more than letting them in.

You don't get great work by rewarding it—you get it by valuing people first:“If you need a reminder to recognize somebody, you're not a good leader.”“There is no such thing as a recognition program.”“Until someone values me, I'm just going to get a paycheck.”Why appreciation turns effort into meaning for the giver of gratitude…See BoldEncounters.TV.In this conversation, Kevin Ames dismantles one of leadership's most expensive myths: that not having recognition or turning it into a system creates engagement. Drawing from decades of leadership research and real-world experience, Ames explains why appreciation isn't a tool, a program, or a reminder—it's a behavior that shapes leadership performance, leader loyalty, and meaning for anyone at work. This episode explores why people don't do great work because they're incentivized, but because they feel genuinely valued—and how leaders quietly lose influence when appreciation is outsourced alone, automated, or delayed.Inside This Episode• Why recognition programs fail to produce great work• The difference between appreciation and incentives• How influence—not authority—is a leader's real power• Why money is rarely the primary driver of performance• How great work becomes a source of meaning, not burnoutGo Deeper — Premium Action PlanThis episode sets up a second part of the episode that includes a Premium Action Plan for members of Bold Encounters Club. Today, I am pleased to welcome Paul Boutros, Deputy Chairman and Head of Watches, Americas for Phillip, the leading auction house dedicated to collector's watches. Based in New York City, he helped establish and build the watch department since its launch in 2014. In October 2017, he led Phillips's inaugural New York watch auction, Winning Icons, where Paul Newman's legendary Rolex "Paul Newman" Daytona sold for $17.8 million - the highest result ever for a vintage wristwatch sold at auction. Under his leadership, the Phillips New York team as sold many legendary pieces, including a Heuer Monaco wristwatch gifted by Steve McQueen, Marlon Brando's Rolex GMT-Master worn in "Apocalypse Now", Jack Nicklaus' Rolex Day-Date, and Paul Newman's Rolex "Big Red" Daytona, to mention just a few. In December 2021, his team's fifth annual flagship watch auction achieved $35.9 million, breaking the record for the highest watch auction total in U.S. history. A collector of wristwatches since childhood, Paul is a specialist in their authentication and valuation. Frequently appearing on television programs sharing tips on watch collecting, he has hosted talks for investment banks, luxury brands, and magazines. As the former watch columnist for Barron's PENTA, Paul has been published or cited in numerous publications including The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg, Forbes, and Robb Report. Paul serves as a Trustee for the Horological Society of New York, an Honorary Committee Member of the Gerald Genta Heritage Association, and as an Academy Member of the Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG). Paul also serves as a strategy consultant to luxury brands through his firm, Boutros Group. To start off, Paul tells us about the exotic world of luxury time pieces. He tells the story of how the luxury watch landscape has evolved and how UHNW individuals and families are viewing watches today as a component of their portfolio's alternative assets allocation. We then talk about what sets unique time pieces apart from the "mere mortal" expensive watches. Paul helps us understand and define what makes a luxury watch a collectible piece.>/p> Paul offers some tips for families and family offices on how to get started, especially if they are new to luxury watch investing and collecting. He goes into detail on how one can find the right watch for their needs and goals. An important consideration in this specialized segment of alternative investments is protecting against fraud and other unique threats. Paul provides invaluable pointers into what UHNW families need to know about how to avoid the risks inherent in the world of luxury watches and how to protect against being taken advantage of. Finally, he describes the important role the family office can and should play in this process. Do not miss this fascinating and deeply insightful conversation with one of the world's leading experts on luxury time pieces and collectible watches.

Sermon by Michael Bailey on January 18, 2026.Key scripture: Genesis 2:4-15Our world is wary of masculine strength, but the Bible casts a vision for men whose power is channeled toward blessing. This week's sermon dives into how that vision still shapes and challenges us today.
What do you think you might be saying on your deathbed? Will you be looking back at your life with a sense of joy and completeness, or, do you think that perhaps you might be consumed with regret? As this week's guest shares, “It's easy to assume that you will live with great health to a ripe old age, then die peacefully in your sleep wearing your favourite pyjamas but it doesn't work out that way for most people…” Bronnie Ware is an internationally acclaimed speaker and author of the bestselling memoir, The Top Five Regrets of the Dying. Published more than 10 years ago, it's been translated into 32 languages and continues to attract new audiences. The book is about her eight years as an end-of-life carer, the close relationships she formed, and lessons she learned from those dying people, which changed her life forever. In this conversation, we discuss some of the various regrets of the dying and what they can teach us so that we can live better lives, right now. We talk about the concept of choice. Everything we do, or don't do, has a price – be it time or money. Our culture incentivises what we can measure – salaries, possessions, status, social media ‘likes' and comments. But Bronnie urges us to realise the sacredness and value of our time. Is something a choice worth making if it means you have to sacrifice time with your loved ones? Is it worth pushing extra hard for the promotion that may bring you more money but also more stress and more time away from home? These are decisions that I think we all need to wrestle with from time to time if we are truly going to be living a contented and intentional life. We also talk about the real meaning of regret, what it means to be courageous, and how self-compassion can help us see our mistakes as a natural part of life and growth. Importantly, Bronnie also defines the qualities and habits she observed in those patients who reached the end of life with no regrets – what can we learn from these people? Death can be a topic that many people shy away from discussing but Bronnie is a wonderful soul who is able to talk about death in a relatable, powerful and authentic way. Appreciating we are going to die is the first step to getting more out of life. This really was a thought-provoking and intimate conversation. I hope you enjoy listening. First for transitional justice & reconciliation in their native Balkans, then for drug policy reform and psychedelic science in the US & at the UN level, and more recently for community healing in the Trans / Queer community. After studying political science at a prestigious French university, they were quickly disillusioned by the potential of institutional politics to bring about a needed change.Upon finishing university, they designed their own curriculum: studying the interior world through yoga, meditation, psychotherapy, healing themselves and their female ancestral line with psychedelic-assisted therapy. Some conversations feel scripted. This one… absolutely did not. Larry Robbins walked in ready to talk life, passion, family, culture, workholding, philosophy, and whatever else popped into his head — and somehow it all connected back to manufacturing. This episode of MakingChips is one of the most unhinged, hilarious, honest, and wisdom-packed conversations we've ever recorded. Larry has been in the industry for nearly 46 years, and he's collected enough stories, scars, and laughs for ten careers. From his father dragging him into the business ("long hair doesn't work here") to his famous explanation that SMW makes "magic hands," Larry blends humor and experience into lessons every shop owner needs to hear. His passion for the industry is unmatched — and his candor is even better. Throughout the episode, the crew dives into culture, leadership, lying (don't), modularity, flexibility, high-density workholding, predictable setups, financing equipment, and why you should stop crawling across a dollar to pick up a dime. Larry opens up about the future of manufacturing, warns against bad advice, and reminds everyone that machining touches every single thing in the world. If you're ready for an episode that's equal parts educational and unhinged in the best possible way, buckle up — Larry Robbins is in rare form. One thing that many alumni and students will say upon reflecting on the merits of their Veritas education is: "I learned how to carry on a good conversation."It's true that the art of conversing may be dwindling in our culture. Being able to relate to others well in a variety of situations - and engage on a breath of topics - is a skill that is deeply appreciated by others, and beneficial for ourselves, too.Especially now, coming into the holidays when we find ourselves in an array of social settings with family, friends, and even strangers, being equipped with the mindset and skills for good conversation will make Christmas gatherings all the more pleasant for everyone. Our host, Head of School Ty Fischer, is joined in this episode of Veritas alumni Jesse Brooks and Dean of Students and Omnibus/Rhetoric teacher Graham Dennis to talk about what makes for a good conversation, and how we can help cultivate in ourselves and our children the desire and skill to carry on good conversation. After all, that a big part of what we're doing at Veritas – fostering students who can listen well and speak thoughtfully on topics that truly matter, and who excel at relating with one another in Christ because they've been trained regularly in talking around the table. This season of Cultivate is sponsored by Hershey Financial Advisers, a wealth management firm located at North Pointe Blvd. in Lancaster, PA, leading people to make better financial decisions and empowering them to fulfill a vision beyond themselves.
In this episode of The Journey, I share a reflection sparked by the first meaningful snowfall of the season in central Wisconsin. After Thanksgiving, the world around me slowed under a fresh blanket of snow—a moment of solitude, beauty, and quiet that invited me to breathe, listen, and reconnect with nature and with God. I talk about the importance of embracing these pauses in our lives, especially during the winter months, and I encourage you to take a little time to step outside, bundle up, and appreciate the stillness this season offers.
Leila Rahimi and Marshall Harris welcomed on Matt Spiegel and Laurence Holmes for the daily transition segment.
