    Savannah Guthrie in tears. Breaking news about her mother's disappearance was delivered on live TV, with Savannah right there at the anchor desk. She wiped away tears, saying that while the release of details from a ransom note is newsworthy, for her it's her life - and she and her loved ones are still in agony. Steven Fabian has more on the very emotional TV moment. And the verdict is in for the successful businessman accused of driving his boat recklessly during his daughter's 18th birthday party, killing one of her friends. During the trial he was overcome with emotion, at one point hyperventilating in front of the jury. As the not guilty verdict was read, he again broke into tears. Ann Mercogliano has the details. Plus, when a baby started choking, the desperate parents called not only 911, but ran outside and screamed to the neighbor across the street — why? Because she's a nurse. She came running and saved the day before the fire trucks even arrived. Jim Moret spoke with both women about the lifesaving moment they will never forget. And the last American passengers stuck on the Hantavirus cruise ship are finally going home, released from quarantine. They were taken from the ship directly to the nation's top bio-containment unit, and now they have all been released and are back home. After six weeks in quarantine, these are the hugs he's been waiting for. He spoke with Brooke Anderson.

Drama continues over the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool on the National Mall. Green algae continues to bloom despite a major $16 million renovation, and the pool liner is peeling off. Without any evidence, President Trump believes it's sabotage and vows to clean the water in time for the July 4th celebrations, saying he's ready to drain the pool and start over.     No amount of planning could have prepared New York City for today's massive ticker tape parade celebrating the Knicks winning the NBA championship. The city deployed 10,000 NYPD officers for one of the biggest parades in New York history. Justin Finch was right in the middle of the action. And there continues to be shock and sadness over the 18-year-old tourist who was killed after a horse broke loose in New York's Central Park. It was the first fatality involving carriage horse rides in Manhattan, reigniting the debate over whether they should even exist. It comes on the heels of another carriage horse suddenly collapsing and dying. As Alison Hall reports, it turns out the horse had eaten a poisonous plant. Plus, as Father's Day approaches, one dad found himself at the center of the great bathroom debate. He was at a gas station when his two young daughters needed to use the restroom. There wasn't a family restroom, so he took them into the women's bathroom, leading to a confrontation with a man who called 911. As Steven Fabian reports, it's a dilemma for parents coast to coast: which is the appropriate bathroom to use with young children. And the Obama Library officially opened today in Chicago, and President Trump couldn't resist taking a shot, calling it a complete disaster while sharing images of his planned library, a skyscraper in Miami complete with two gold statues of himself.

    "Break the cockpit window!" Good Samaritans driving by a private jet that crashed on a highway rushed to help, grabbing shovels, hammers, and whatever they could from their trunks to get the pilot and passengers out safely. Ann Mercogliano spoke with the woman who shot the nail-biting video - her husband was among those who jumped into action. And sentencing day for the Gilgo Beach serial killer. Rex Heurmann admitted to killing eight women, and today the courtroom was packed with victims' family members as the judge let Heurmann have it, calling him disgusting and despicable. Plus, we're learning more about the alleged drone attack threat to target Fight Night at the White House. The five suspects under arrest are thought to be members of a group that calls itself Vanguard of the Old Republic. Authorities say it's an extremist group with anti-government beliefs that started on TikTok. And this cat has quite the story to tell! The 16-year-old feline wandered away from home in Texas and ended up across the country in California. When his owner got a call from a woman 1,700 miles away saying "I got your cat," her jaw hit the floor.

    Two women were swept away in rough waters in California after being carried out to sea while sleeping on the beach when the tide came in. Rescuers were unable to reach them on time. And there was nothing more deafening than the sounds of Knicks fans screaming for joy after their big win. One woman's joyful screams were mistaken for distress, leading to the death of a family dog. Plus, five suspects have been arrested for allegedly plotting to detonate drone bombs near the UFC event at the White House on Sunday, a plan that, if successful, would have forced an evacuation and sent 100,000 spectators running into the path of snipers. As Ann Mercogliano reports, federal authorities say they were able to stop the attack in time. And shock continues after a woman died while bungee jumping because she was never attached to the cord. Three workers from that jump site were arrested and charged with homicide. We are now learning that one of the suspects has a history of what many are calling “reckless jumps.”

And she's the high school cheerleader killed on a cruise ship, with her stepbrother charged with first-degree murder. He has pled not guilty. Now, as he awaits trial, his step-grandmother is coming forward to say his parents should be charged for their alleged lack of supervision.

    Family of Friends star Matthew Perry entered a Los Angeles court today. It's sentencing day for the personal assistant who injected Perry with the powerful drug ketamine on the day he died. The family is hoping for harsh penalties for the man they say left the actor in a hot tub to die. Jim Moret is at the courthouse with the latest. And they're alive! The mom who made a desperate plea after she says their dad kidnapped her two baby sons is breathing a sigh of relief today. Authorities say they have found the children in Mexico with their dad. Alison Hall has the story. Plus, she's the 18-year-old cheerleader who was killed while on a carnival cruise ship, and her own stepbrother is charged with murder. Today we got our first clear video of the suspect as he walked into court, fighting to remain free until the trial. 16-year-old Timothy Hudson has pleaded not guilty to charges of first-degree murder and aggravated sexual abuse. His trial is scheduled for September.  And she's a comic who makes millions laugh on social media, but there's nothing funny about this. She says she was crushed by her 600-pound refrigerator in a freak accident. Our new reporter Justin Finch tells us how she ended up in an ambulance.

Jim Moret spoke with the family who is now suing the manufacturer they believe made the drain cover. That company has filed a motion to dismiss the case.

    What killed Kyle Busch? The sudden death of the NASCAR star at just 41 years old is sending shockwaves across the country. Now we're hearing the 911 call placed the day before his death. Cops say it was a murder suicide. In their final days they had been scammed out of tens of thousands of dollars. The wife thought she was helping Blue Bloods star Tom Selleck, but it was actually someone pretending to be the actor, and she was scammed. The sheriff's office tells us there is no evidence at this time that the scammer pretending to be Tom Selleck was directly involved in the couple's death. Plus, AAA predicts a record 45 million Americans are traveling this Memorial Day weekend. But are you ready to board a plane or get in your car for a road trip? Meteorologists warn it will be a washout for much of the country. Alison Hall has what you need to know. And today a seven year old daredevil became the youngest person ever to scale the famous El Capitan summit. It's no wonder his name is Joey Danger.

Another passenger is coming forward to say at first the captain didn't say what was going on, but when the whole crew put on masks panic started growing. And the teen convicted of killing her boyfriend and a friend by driving into a wall at 100 miles per hour had one big worry about being in prison, after she was convicted: that if/when she gets out, she'll be too old to get married and have kids.

    We're learning more about the woman died after falling in an open manhole, her death struck a nerve coast to coast. It took rescuers 20 minutes to get her out of the hole where temperatures reach up to 200 degrees. As Steven Fabian reports, today lots of pedestrians are walking around manholes fearing they too could meet a similar fate. And more fires ravaging Southern California, including in simi valley where a dedicated Amazon driver made sure his last delivery of the day got to its destination despite the flames. So, what was inside the package? Jim Moret was there as it was opened. Plus, first responders rushed to a house fire. Inside, a mom was trapped with a baby on the second floor. With no other option, the mom dropped her child out the window. Thankfully, a hero was there to make an amazing catch! And one of the most intense custody battles ever. After their parents split, in 2023, a brother and sister living with their mom were told they have to visit their dad. The siblings' response? As Alison Hall reports, they literally boarded themselves inside a bedroom and wouldn't come out. Plus, an above ground pool giving way, sending about 10-thousand gallons of water flooding the backyard like a tidal wave, washing away the outdoor furniture and the kids. No one was hurt, but now someone's got to fix the pool! And a cute little robot named Stewie caused some big drama. Prominent attorney Alex Murdaugh was convicted of killing his wife and son, but today the South Carolina Supreme Court overturned his conviction and ordered that there be a new trial. Plus Elon Musk joined President Trump today in China, taking part in a two-day summit. On the plane, Musk had something else on his mind than international affairs. He was weighing in on the controversy over actress Lupita Nyong'o being chosen to play the woman whose face launched a thousand ships, Helen of Troy. And a woman was in Las Vegas with her husband when they ended up getting stuck in a packed elevator. She tells Alison Hall the hotel didn't do enough to help, and they ended up having to call 911 themselves.  The Rio Hotel tells us the safety of their guests is their priority.     Three people are dead, including a husband and wife, after coming down with Hantavirus which is usually spread by rats. It happened onboard a ship on a voyage across the Atlantic. As Les Trent reports, medical experts are worried because it's an extremely rare strain of the virus that can be transmitted human to human. The cruise liner is working with authorities to coordinate medical screening of all guests, stating “the health and safety of all passengers and crew is our highest priority.” And remember the guy who had to take an entire plane ride with water dripping on his head? Here he is, Kevin Glover, talking for the first time about the flight that left him drenched. He spoke exclusively with Steven Fabian.
