Hawk breaks down the FBI search warrant executed in Fulton County, Georgia, targeting ballots from the 2020 presidential election, a warrant that legal experts say should never have existed. The affidavit, authored by FBI Special Agent Hugh Raymond Evans, reads less like a credible criminal complaint and more like a greatest hits album of debunked 2020 election denier conspiracy theories. Clark Cunningham, a law and ethics professor at Georgia State University, and election integrity expert David Becker have both stated the affidavit fails the basic constitutional standard of establishing probable cause, the very threshold required before any judge, or in this case US Magistrate Judge Katherine Selenus, can legally authorize a search . The criminal investigation itself was triggered by Kurt Olsen, a Trump-appointed election denier who was on the phone with Trump on January 6th and now holds a key federal election security role. Tulsi Gabbard, the director of national intelligence, was present during the raid, which resulted in over 700 boxes of Fulton County election materials being seized, materials whose current location nobody can confirm. Meanwhile, Stephen Miller is directing a coordinated campaign using DHS and ICE to intimidate naturalized US citizens and suppress minority voter turnout, with Steve Bannon openly calling for ICE agents at every polling location. The Georgia State Election Board met and ultimately voted not to take over Fulton County elections, while Trump held a rally in Marjorie Taylor Greene's former district the same day. Fulton County has filed motions to have the warrant vacated and the ballots returned, citing Fourth Amendment violations, expired statutes of limitations, and witnesses with severe credibility and bias issues, including one who was reportedly referred to the FBI for threatening Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensberger. PLUS: more on the deadly ICE chase in Chatham & how one conspiracy theorist & his debunked claims seem central to the Fulton / FBI raid Ron caught up with Wendy Davis, former Rome city commissioner, Congressional candidate and co-host of Kudzu Vine, for a straightforward look at polling throughout the country in red districts, why Democrats feel more confident about Sen. Jon Ossoff's 2026 race, and how affordability and tariffs are still hitting voters - and are likely about to get worse. Ron and Wendy break down the messy special election to replace Marjorie Taylor Greene and discuss the crowded GOP field, Trump's endorsement drama, and Shawn Harris' strategy as he tries to compete for votes outside the Democratic party while keeping Democrats in his camp. There's more to learn (and discuss) in the aftermath of an ICE-induced high-speed chase where a Savannah school teacher was killed by a fleeing immigrant. A controversy once thought to be just happening in sanctuary cities like Minneapolis is at the heart of this tragedy: poor (if any) communication between DHS/ICE and local law enforcement. Also, Ron caught up with ProPublica investigative reporter Doug Bock Carter, who uncovered the source for much of the flimsy rationale behind an affidavit that led to the FBI raiding the Fulton Elections facility for 2020 ballots. John remembers civil rights leader and formative voice in 20th century US politics, Rev. Jesse Jackson who died at age 84 after a decade-long battle with a debilitating neurological disorder. He also talks about FCC Chair Brendan Carr putting the brakes on Steven Colbert's interview with Democratic Texas Congressman James Talarico and the death of legendary actor Robert Duvall who passed away at the age of 95. Then, he interviews Bruce Friedrich who is the founder and president of the Good Food Institute (GFI), a global science think tank with more than 230 full-time team members, the plurality scientists. Climate charity evaluator Giving Green recommends GFI as a top six charity for climate impact, highlighting its “successful track record, breadth of expertise, and strategic approach,” and calling it “a powerhouse in alternative protein thought leadership and action.” They talk about his new book "MEAT: How the Next Agricultural Revolution Will Transform Humanity's Favorite Food—and Our Future". In the book, Bruce offers an exploration of how science, policy, and industry can work together to satisfy the world's soaring demand for meat, while building a healthier and more sustainable world. Next, John welcomes back Shawn Harris who is a retired Brigadier General and Polk County cattle producer, who returned home to Georgia after 40 years of military service to run a first-generation grass-fed cattle farm in Rockmart. Harris is running to replace Marjorie Taylor Greene in Georgia's 14th Congressional District, a democrat in a crowded field of Republicans in a race that suddenly has the full attention of Donald Trump, who will travel there this week. And lastly, he jokes with "Comedy Daddy" Keith Price and they chat with listeners about Robert Duvall, Jesse Jackson, and Combover Caligula.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
Hawk breaks down the growing revolt inside MAGA world over the Epstein files. Former Navy SEAL and pro-Trump podcaster Shawn Ryan publicly torched Attorney General Pam Bondi and the Trump administration for failing to prosecute anyone connected to Jeffrey Epstein, calling out the broken promise to drain the swamp and demanding Congress get to work. Hawk notes that Bondi served as Florida attorney general for the entirety of Epstein's sweetheart deal period and did nothing.Dan Bongino is under fire after returning to podcasting and attempting to position himself as an Epstein files crusader, despite having signed off on the July 6th letter that closed the DOJ and FBI investigation, declared there was no client list, and stated there was no evidence of blackmail. Critics including former FBI agent Kyle Seraphin called out the contradiction directly.Marjorie Taylor Greene told fitness podcaster Jillian Michaels that Donald Trump called her personally and screamed at her over the discharge petition, warning her that releasing the Epstein files would hurt his friends. Greene was one of only four Republicans, along with Thomas Massie, Lauren Boebert, and Nancy Mace, who signed the discharge petition that forced the vote.Hawk also covers the 5,300 documents in the Epstein files that mention Donald Trump, including allegations of sexual misconduct, with Trump's name reportedly appearing over one million times across three million pages. Trump responded to reporters on Air Force One claiming total exoneration while deflecting toward Bill and Hillary Clinton, who have their own documented connections to Epstein. The Charlie Kirk assassination continues to divide the conservative movement as Candace Owens promotes conspiracy theories suggesting Turning Point USA involvement in the September 10th killing. TPUSA has responded with employee terminations, cease and desist letters, and heightened internal paranoia as leaked videos and audio recordings reach Owens from inside sources. Former TPUSA staffer Aubrey Lech claims she was fired for questioning the Charlie Kirk murder narrative, joining other employees dismissed in what critics call a purge. The Zionism debate fractures MAGA further as Tucker Carlson, Nick Fuentes, and Candace Owens challenge pro-Israel conservatives. The White House Religious Liberty Commission meeting devolved into chaos when Commissioner Carrie Prejean Bowler defended Candace Owens against antisemitism charges, arguing Catholic opposition to Zionism doesn't equal antisemitism. Texas Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick fired Bowler from the commission, but she refuses to recognize his authority and plans to attend future meetings. Will Saletan's Bulwark reporting exposes how Candace Owens conspiracy theories penetrate Turning Point USA staff, creating workplace suspicion and legal threats. Tucker Carlson is making waves with reports of an upcoming trip to Israel for an interview with US Ambassador Mike Huckabee, following their heated social media exchanges over Christian treatment in the region and Carlson's past comments downplaying Hamas as a terrorist group. Times of Israel reports that Israel initially considered barring him but backed off to avoid a diplomatic row, after Huckabee challenged Carlson to come talk in person following a recent episode of The Tucker Carlson Show. His latest content from Jordan, a 30-minute video titled “The Shocking Reality of the Treatment of Christians in the Holy Land by US-Funded Israel,” has drawn sharp backlash. The Media Line and Ynet News detail fact-checks debunking his claims of shrinking Christian populations as a crisis, exaggerated spitting incidents compared to al-Qaida madrasas, and false suggestions of an Israeli strike on Gaza's Al-Ahli Hospital—actually a misfired Palestinian rocket. Evangelical leader Joel Rosenberg warns Carlson of spiritual peril for his anti-Israel stance, while attorney Calev Myers calls it a master class in gaslighting half-truths.On his Tucker Carlson Network, fresh episodes feature Rep. Tim Burchett discussing UFO secrecy, congressional insider trading, and institutional distrust, fueling debates on government transparency. Podbean highlights Carlson's national media tour with guests like Russell Brand, Vivek Ramaswamy, and Marjorie Taylor Greene, alongside his subscription platform's growth through fundraising and patriotic investments. Recent clips question redacted Israel references in JFK and RFK assassination files during a talk with Cenk Uygur, per Algemeiner.Reactions split conservatives: Laura Loomer accuses him of pro-Islamic bias amid Israel clashes like his challenge to Ted Cruz on US support, while supporters praise his push against establishment media. Natalie Winters, co-host of Steve Bannon's “War Room” podcast, and Adam Mockler, host of “The Adam Mockler Show” on YouTube, join Margaret Hoover for a discussion at Hofstra University about how their generation views politics and media.Winters, 24, defends her approach to reporting and denounces the “anti-disinformation industry” that she believes silences alternative views. She also addresses rifts within the Republican Party revealed by a recent clash between President Trump and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene.Mockler, 23, explains why authenticity attracts audiences online and reflects on the state of the Democratic Party, which he thinks should embrace aspects of both moderation and populism to succeed. The commentators debate President Trump's immigration policies and broader attitudes toward immigration and assimilation.Winters and Mockler also take questions from Hofstra students about accountability in journalism, algorithms that promote extreme content, and desensitization toward tragedy.Support for Firing Line with Margaret Hoover is provided by Robert Granieri, Vanessa and Henry Cornell, The Fairweather Foundation, The Tepper Foundation, Peter and Mary Kalikow, The Beth and Ravenel Curry Foundation, Pritzker Military Foundation, Cliff and Laurel Asness, Katharine J. The conservative movement has become a lucrative marketplace, and like any marketplace, it attracts con artists. Candace Owens has been outed. Marjorie Taylor Greene has been outed. And now we come to Steve Bannon. This is how Leftism actually works. It is selfish, self-serving, and devoted to the worship of self. The god of Leftism is idolatry. Every Leftist either openly or secretly wants the spotlight, the reverence, and the power that comes with it. Principles are props. Loyalty is transactional. When you understand that, the parade of so-called Republicans who spend their lives attacking Republicans starts to make sense. Ana Navarro. Joe Scarborough. Michael Steele. The list is long, and the pattern is obvious. They did not drift away from conservatism. They were never anchored to it in the first place.Steve Bannon was no exception. He was a con man then, and he is a con man now. I said this years ago, after interviewing him at CPAC, when we discussed issues facing the Black community. Tucker Carlson has been making waves with his recent Middle East travels, including a trip to Jordan and an expected visit to Israel, where officials reportedly considered but ultimately rejected denying him entry to avoid diplomatic fallout, according to The Jerusalem Post and HaTzinor reports. In a new video from the region, Carlson highlighted what he described as oppression of Christians in Jerusalem by Israel, contrasting it with greater religious freedom for Christians in Jordan, where he interviewed local Christian leaders who praised Muslim-Christian harmony. He sharply criticized US Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee for failing to defend Jerusalem's Christians and ignoring attacks on Palestinian Christians by Israeli settlers. This sparked a public feud, with Huckabee challenging Carlson on X to interview him directly instead of talking about him, and Carlson quickly agreeing, setting up what could be their first face-to-face since the spat began. Israel Hayom and the Jewish Telegraphic Agency note the exchange has deepened rifts in the conservative movement over Israel, antisemitism accusations, and Christian Zionism, with Huckabee questioning if Carlson hides any love for Jews.Earlier this week at the World Government Summit 2026 in Dubai, Carlson clashed heatedly with presidents of Botswana, Sierra Leone, and Zimbabwe in a viral session questioning the retreat of global democracy and selective international justice, as covered by The New Africa Channel. His Tucker Carlson Network continues to thrive with fresh episodes, including one with Rep. Tim Burchett on UFO secrecy and congressional insider trading, fueling debates on government trust. He's also on a national media tour featuring guests like Russell Brand and Marjorie Taylor Greene, while fundraising expands his subscription platform.Reactions split along ideological lines: conservatives hail him as a counter to mainstream media, while critics like Laura Loomer accuse him of pro-Islamic bias, and figures like Ted Cruz face his challenges on Israel support. These moves underscore Carlson's growing sway in right-wing politics amid ongoing ventures post-Fox News. Thanks for listening to the Tucker Carlson News Tracker podcast—please subscribe for more updates. February 8, 2026; 7am: Republicans are worried about a Democratic blowout in both chambers of Congress. One race they're focusing on is GOP Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene's seat in Georgia, where 21 candidates are already on the ballot. Plus, the only Senate Democrat up for re-election this year is Jon Ossoff, who delivered a fiery speech attacking the Trump administration for being out of touch. After Memegate went viral on Friday, the usual battle in our virtual Civil War raged on. I had this exchange on X and was answered by Conor Friedersdorf:To Trump's enemies, this was yet another crisis not to go to waste. It was the perfect way to reel back some of those Nicki Minaj supporters who might be thinking about flipping to Trump. The midterms are coming up, and they're desperately worried about losing votes of yet another necessary demographic. That's all it's been for ten years now, emotional blackmail to convince us that Trump really is that bad while offering nothing in return. They have addressed nothing. They have fixed nothing. They have offered only a fanatical cult and a rigid ideology of an oppressor/oppressed mindset, and then demanded everyone go along with it, or they're racists, homophobes, bigots, Nazis. Here is a TikTocker:The Democrats and the ruling class that props up their collapsing empire are in a hell of their own making. They never addressed the people's needs after their 2016 loss because that would mean acknowledging their own failures. Instead, they made Trump the enemy and went to war, a war they're losing. All they ever had to do was offer the people something better, but they couldn't even do that because what they want is their utopia back, the one I helped build, and the one I escaped once it became a Doomsday Cult. Had they left him alone, just allowed his four years to play out like a normal president, as opposed to Obama, Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden attempting to frame him as a Russian asset, the Demcorats impeaching him, the legacy media and all of culture taking a side against him and his supporters, maybe he would have been a one-term president and gone back to a life of golfing at Mar-a-Lago.But instead, they whipped up a World War II fantasy in which they were “brave resistance” fighting an existential crisis that threatened to topple America and the world, with very little evidence to show for it, then or now. That made it oh so easy to blame Trump and not themselves.I look now at those still trapped inside the Doomsday Cult that I escaped, and I can't believe the level of delusion. Look at this post by musician Jack White, which is liked by Jimmy Kimmel. So let me make it perfectly clear for those who might be wondering after the scandal du jour: I don't regret my vote for Trump and I never will, because even now, the Left is worse. Their reaction is worse. They are never telling the truth, not to us, not to themselves. All they have to sell is hate and fear. They aren't getting less crazy and more sane. They are not becoming kinder, more tolerant, and more forgiving. They still have no idea what democracy means - spoiler alert: you can't always get what you want. They have never learned the lesson in ten years. They still believe that winning their war is forcing all of us to go along with their distorted version of reality. And add that to these crazy people on TikTok, and you start to see that the reason Trump won is that he's closer to normal than they are. They just don't realize that they're the problem. Their totalitarian tendencies left over from 2020 never fully died because there was never any accountability in the mainstream. Remember that crowd that swarmed that woman and demanded she raise her fist for Black Lives Matter:Here are a bunch of crazy women at a Core Power Yoga studio in Minneapolis doing the same thing: go along with us or else. That same autonomous zone that was erected in 2020:Well, that's back too, only this time the police got rid of it much quicker, knowing Tom Homan and Trump won't stand for it.Do they really expect us to vote for these psychopaths? Put them back in power? And why, because Trump accidentally shared a meme with a racist image of the Obamas at the end of it? Sorry, they have to deal with the fanatics who have swallowed up their party first because they are still too erratic and unhinged to lead this country. What are they going to do with all of us? With Trump? Throw us into re-education camps? Gulags? Shoot us outright?GET TRUMPThe Left's 10-year campaign to get Trump is like watching Yosemite Sam go after Bugs Bunny. They always think they're just seconds away from catching him at long last. They believe deeply in their mission to destroy Trump, just as Yosemite Sam does. It's just that we see Bugs Bunny a little differently. Whatever else Trump is, he's not the guy they say he is, and for that, they will always be one step behind, swinging and missing. I didn't get that until I found my way out. As someone who got online 30 years ago, I wasn't ready for the effects of the feedback loop on my brain, and I don't think most people on the Left even realized they were living inside a reality-distorting machine. I had to watch Trump videos on my own, get to know him and his supporters, and humanize them. I found that I unexpectedly empathized with Trump. It wasn't just that I could finally see the real human being, but because I, too, had been demonized and attacked for being a person I knew I wasn't. All I had to do was walk in the shoes of his supporters to see what monsters they really are on the Left. The more they attack Trump, the more his supporters rally to protect him, not just because they have been thrown away like human garbage by these people, but also because they look at Trump and they see a flawed hero, someone who doesn't always get it right, who makes big mistakes, who is anything but perfect. But he's also someone who fights for them. Our culture used to understand flawed heroes because they were in so many movies and books.Indiana Jones in Raiders of the Lost Ark:Humphrey Bogart Casablanca.Clint Eastwood in Unforgiven. What counts isn't their past or their goodness or their purity, but their actions. We all treated Obama like a religious figure, and still do, which partly explains the over-reaction by the Left. It's blasphemy to mock Obama, whereas it's an American pastime to mock Trump. Today's Left seems to desire perfection from cradle to grave and is unforgiving of flawed heroes, especially white men. But Trump is a great character of history, a living legend. They just got the story wrong. Here is Dominic Sandbrook on Triggernometry:Trump is a hero to so many of us, not because he's perfect or “good” but because he is a fighter who got the dirty job done and saved the day. Crimes against humanityI asked Conor Friedersdorf the same question I would put to any Democrat. Can you name something — one thing — Trump has done that is worse than sterilizing children who can't consent? Destroying their bodies with medical experiments? Never having the courage to stand up to the cult? Now that the lawsuits are coming, and prominent groups like the AMA are openly opposing gender transition treatments for minors, the Democrats will pretend they were always against it. But we can't let them do that. The Democrats have not just supported it every step of the way; they have actively blocked any action taken to safeguard children. It took the Republicans standing on the right history yet again, as they did during the Civil War, to push this thing through, and it took the election of Donald Trump to finally bring the hammer down.Only Trump, in his plain-spoken, flawed hero kind of way, had the guts to say it out loud, without fear, and that gave others more courage to fight back. But Trump wasn't only saying things. He was doing things. And before long, the dominoes began to fall. What could Trump have done that even comes close to what has happened to kids at the hands of 15 years of Democrat rule? What's worse? Saying “Quiet, Piggy” to a reporter? Tearing down the East Wing to build a ballroom? The Kennedy Center? An offensive meme?Their climate of fear and culture of silence made it too dangerous to take a brave stand, which is why it was left to the brave men and women who risked their lives and careers to put a stop to the madness once and for all.And along with their ever-increasing authoritarianism, we'd be the UK if Elon Musk had not bought Twitter and turned it into X, and if Trump hadn't won. Here is Graham Linehan speaking in Congress:So when people say, “You could have picked a different Republican, but you picked Trump,” I flip it back onto them. Tell me what Trump has done, just one thing, that comes close to this, and be prepared to answer it 20 years from now, because I promise to hang it around your necks like a dead cat for as long as I live. Here is a TikToker:On this alone, I would have voted for any Republican. I'd always say, “I am not a Trump supporter but…” Then, they raided Mar-a-Lago, and when they indicted him, when they tried to throw him in jail, that made me a Trump supporter. That made me the Braveheart meme. There won't be any Sister Souljah moments in this Democratic Party.I have been waiting for six years for the Democrats to snap out of it and come back to reality. That day never came. If anything, they're crazier now than they've ever been. Anyone who wants their votes has no choice but to go along with it. The Democrats can't snap out of it even if they wanted to. Gavin Newsom can't sell anything but hate and hysteria. Even Jon Ossoff, a guy I once supported and fought for, must sell the same thing because they have nothing else. They have given people like me no path back because the only option is going back to the Doomsday Cult that insists I call Trump and the other half of America racists when I know that it isn't true. A cult that demands I buy into the oppressor/oppressed mandate, and demands I look the other way as they indoctrinate our kids and destroy every great thing this country ever built.I could have been one of those who hovered reluctantly in the middle and held my nose and voted for Trump. Maybe I could have salvaged some of my reputation such that when I died, they might say good things about me instead of dancing on my grave.I could have spent my time apologizing, trying to rebuild my liberal cred by denouncing Trump and throwing him under the bus, like Marjorie Taylor Greene. I could have used that to boost myself, every time another wave of mass hysteria pulsed through our society, because see, Trump IS a fascist! And see, Trump is a dictator and a racist! You were right all along! But that would not be the truth. Trump is only in power because we put him there. We wanted someone tough enough, strong enough, and persistent enough to never back down, never shrink back, never hand power to those who want to put half the country in re-education camps. The Democrats might still be the ruling class, dominating most institutions, all of our culture, and the legacy media, but the rest of us have Trump, our last best hope to fight for the country we love. And if some days it feels like trying to keep from falling overboard or getting seasick, most of us knew what we were getting into when we climbed aboard. We got what we voted for. So no, I don't regret my vote for Trump. I only regret I didn't see it sooner. I didn't see what we were building, the damage we would cause, or where it was headed until it was too late. // This is a public episode. Tucker Carlson has been highly active on the international stage, headlining at the World Government Summit in Dubai earlier this week. India Today reports he joined hosts Geeta Mohan and Marya Shakil to discuss the transformation of global media, praising Russian President Vladimir Putin's leadership in building a cohesive multiracial society and expressing admiration for Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi as an impressive historical figure he hopes to interview soon. He criticized U.S. sanctions on Russia as absurd, pushing the country toward China and India, and highlighted risks of AI-driven propaganda while advocating engagement with Russia. At the same summit, DWS News covered Carlson clashing in a debate with the presidents of Botswana, Zimbabwe, and Sierra Leone on China's growing influence in Africa, U.S. foreign policy missteps, and Europe's declining role, positioning the next decade as potentially African-led.Back home, JTA reveals a brewing showdown as U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee, a former Fox colleague and evangelical Trump ally, agreed to an interview on Carlson's show after Carlson's recent video from Israel and Jordan accused him of ignoring Christian oppression there. Filmed amid raids on Christian sites and strikes in Gaza, the report urges American Christians to rethink Israel support, spotlighting Huckabee as a Christian Zionist failing Jerusalem's faithful. This feud underscores fractures in the conservative movement over antisemitism and Israel, with figures like Senator Ted Cruz and Ben Shapiro urging distance from Carlson, though he retains ties to Trump, JD Vance, and groups like Turning Point USA.On his Tucker Carlson Network, Podbean notes fresh episodes including one with Rep. Tim Burchett on UFO secrecy, congressional insider trading, and institutional distrust, fueling his subscription platform's growth through fundraising and patriotic investments. He's also launched a 16-day national media tour with guests like Russell Brand, Vivek Ramaswamy, Tulsi Gabbard, Kid Rock, Alex Jones, Marjorie Taylor Greene, and Donald Trump Jr., building his post-Fox empire amid debates on his pro-Islamic bias accusations from Laura Loomer.NPR discusses a new book, Hated By All The Right People by Jason Zengerle, exploring Carlson's far-right influence. Meanwhile, he's ditched Zyn nicotine pouches for his own Alp brand after claiming they funded Kamala Harris. These moves amplify Carlson's sway in media and politics, challenging establishment narratives while deepening divides. Thanks for listening to the Tucker Carlson News Tracker podcast—please subscribe for more updates. Ralph welcomes Colonel Lawrence Wilkerson to discuss a wide range of topics, including NATO, Greenland, Gaza, and more. Then, Ralph speaks to Rabbi Alissa Wise (founding director of Rabbis for Ceasefire) about the “Jews for Food Aid for People in Gaza" campaign. Finally, Ralph and the team address some current events.Lawrence Wilkerson is a retired U.S. Army colonel. Over his 31 years of service, Colonel Wilkerson served as Secretary of State Colin Powell's Chief of Staff from 2002 to 2005, and Special Assistant to General Powell when he was Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff from 1989 to 1993. Colonel Wilkerson also served as Deputy Director and Director of the U.S. Marine Corps War College at Quantico, Virginia, and for fifteen years he was the Distinguished Visiting Professor of Government and Public Policy at the College of William and Mary. He is currently a Senior Fellow at the Eisenhower Media Network, senior advisor to the Quincy Institute for Responsible Statecraft, and co-founder of the All-Volunteer Force Forum. You aren't a newspaper, not really, if you don't have the guts to go out and get the news wherever it's happening. And you're reporting, nonetheless, to the American people [on the truth]. And it's nothing about the truth. It's as bad as what Netanyahu does in his own country in Hebrew. It's propaganda. And in many cases, it's not even accurate propaganda. It's falsified propaganda. You know, there used to be a law. And the law prohibited anyone in the Defense Department, for example, but any of the government agencies (Defense Department was the most guilty) that said: you cannot propagandize the American people. You can propagandize foreign audiences—even in wartime, you can propagandize those audiences, but you must not propagandize the American people. You have to tell them the truth or tell nothing at all. And if you're a media outlet, you should be telling them the truth, or the truth as you best can determine it. We don't honor that law anymore.Colonel Lawrence WilkersonI think [NATO and the EU are] gone, but I think the prospect for the future ought to be that we replace them. We don't just let them go and not have a replacement. And the replacement should be a European security architecture, which includes the Russians. And last time I checked a Rand McNally map, Russia (at least from the Urals inward) was a part of Europe. And it needs to be based not on spheres of influence, but on economic and financial and other needs that all of that group of people have. That's how you create something that will keep Europe and Russia together and not at loggerheads.Colonel Lawrence WilkersonI've said this a number of times (publicly I've said it) —the January 6th attempt to overthrow the United States government in favor of Donald Trump didn't fail because the system held. It failed because the coup plotters were incompetent, and their incompetence was most visible in not having the military (or a sizable segment thereof). They will not do that again.Colonel Lawrence WilkersonRabbi Alissa Wise is the Lead Organizer of Rabbis for Ceasefire, which she founded in October 2023. She was a staff leader at Jewish Voice for Peace from 2011-2021 and co-founded the JVP Rabbinical Council in 2010. She is co-author of “Solidarity is the Political Version of Love: Lessons from Jewish Anti-Zionist Organizing”. She is also one of the organizers of the “Jews for Food Aid for People in Gaza” campaign.I think there is a lot of support in the Jewish community for living up to core liberatory values that there are within Jewish tradition. This is true in every religious tradition and it's true in Judaism, where you can open the sacred text and find a justification for oppression or you could open a sacred text and find a pathway to liberation. And so what we're inviting people into is to pull the thread of liberatory Judaism. And making the conscious choice that those are the threads of the tradition that we want to pull on.Rabbi Alissa WiseThere's nothing Jewish about what the state of Israel is doing—about the state of Israel at all. It's not actually a fulfillment of Jewish practice or tradition or Torah. It's not a Torah-based government. It's government. It's a nation state. It's a military. And it uses—as I was saying before, one could open the Torah and identify justification for endless war or justification for freedom. And I think they often use their Jewishness as a fig leaf in order to shield themselves from criticism because “when you criticize them, you're being anti-Semitic.” And they pull on certain quotes or elements of Jewish teachings that either seem to uphold what they're doing while at the same time being palatable and accessible to the Christian Zionists that actually have for a long time been empowering US foreign policy.Rabbi Alissa WiseNews 2/6/26* Last week, we discussed the showdown in Congress over forcing Bill and Hillary Clinton to testify before the House Oversight Committee regarding the Epstein probe. Despite pressure from Democratic House leadership, many Democrats broke ranks to vote in favor of holding the former President and former Secretary of State in contempt of Congress. If this vote had gone to the full House, it is possible the couple could have been jailed until they agreed to testify. Instead, this week, Bill and Hillary Clinton agreed to appear before the Committee. Bill Clinton's relationship with Epstein is well-documented through the flight logs and photos that have emerged since the passage of the Epstein Files Transparency Act. Hillary Clinton claims never to have met or spoken with the late sex offender and financier, per the BBC. Former President Clinton will appear for a deposition on February 27th; the former Secretary of State will appear the day before. This piece notes that this will mark the first time a former president has testified to Congress since Gerald Ford did so in 1983 – marking a watershed moment for Congress reasserting its constitutional authority.* In more news of Congress asserting its authority vis-a-vis the Epstein scandal, Representatives Ro Khanna and Thomas Massie appeared on “Meet the Press,” this week and said that while the release of the latest batch of files is “significant,” it “is not good enough.” Khanna estimates that only about half of the Epstein files have been released so far. Given how much we have learned from the files so far, it is anyone's guess what lurks in the files they have yet to release. Crucially, withholding the files is in direct contravention of the law authored by the two lawmakers. Khanna stated plainly that “If we don't get the remaining files…Thomas Massie and I are prepared to move on impeachment,” of Attorney General Pam Bondi. This from CNBC.* The Epstein scandal has contributed to growing fissures in the MAGA movement. Perhaps the most notable defector from that camp is retired Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene. This week, Greene sat for an interview with conservative radio personality Kim Iversen, and said that President Trump's Make America Great Again slogan was “all a lie…a big lie for the people,” adding “What MAGA is really serving in this administration, who they're serving, is their big donors,” per the Hill. Elaborating further, Greene said that Trump's financial backers are the real beneficiaries of the supposedly populist movement, saying “They get the government contracts, they get the pardons, or somebody they love or one of their friends gets a pardon.” While Greene has resigned her seat in Congress, she shows little sign of disappearing from the public eye. Many speculate she could seek political office in the future, even the presidency, charting a path forward for a post-Trump GOP.* Another major fight in Congress has to do with checking the out of control Department of Homeland Security. While congressional Democrats' response to the events in Minneapolis leaves much to be desired, Senate Democratic leadership is pushing for reforms to “rein in” ICE and Border Patrol, including “body camera requirements, an end to roving patrols, elevated warrant requirements and a measure to ban officers from wearing masks,” per the Hill. While these reforms fall far short of what is needed, they would go a long way toward checking the worst excesses of these out of control organizations that have come to resemble nothing so much as secret police.* At the state level, the New York Times reports New York Attorney General Letitia James announced that her office will “deploy legal observers to document raids conducted by federal immigration authorities across the state.” These observers, who will be outfitted with clearly identifiable purple vests, are intended to serve as “neutral witnesses on the ground,” and will be “instructed not to interfere with enforcement activity.” This piece highlights that California and New York have already “unveiled online portals for residents to upload photos and videos of misconduct by federal agents that could be used in state lawsuits against the federal government.” A similar effort is being launched by New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill. It remains to be seen whether these attempts to step up oversight of ICE and CBP activity will check the flagrant misconduct we have seen in places in Minneapolis.* In more state and local news, the Root reports the Gullah-Geechee people – descendants of enslaved Africans who formed unique communities including a distinct culture and even language on the coasts of states like Georgia, Florida and the Carolinas – have scored a victory against gentrification on Sapelo Island, the only surviving Gullah-Geechee community in Georgia. In 2023, developers came in and, with local commissioners in their pockets attempted to “eliminate special zoning laws… [and] double the maximum home size on the island…to 3,000 square feet.” In response, local activists and groups like Keep Sapelo Geechee collected thousands of signatures to force a community vote on the matter. This measure passed late last month by a margin of 85%. While small in scale, this victory shows that when residents organize to protect their communities they can win, even in the face of long odds.* A more disturbing story of the American periphery comes to us from Bolts Magazine. This story concerns a family from American Samoa, an unincorporated U.S. Pacific territory where residents are “American Nationals” but not citizens of the United States. This family – Tupe Smith, her husband Mike Pese and their children – moved to Whittier, Alaska in 2017 to be close to Pese's mother. Smith, a pillar of the local community, was recruited to run for the school board and won unanimously. However, because she is only a National and not a citizen, despite having a U.S. passport and Social Security number, she was in fact not eligible to run for office or even vote. Smith was arrested and indicted on two charges of felony voter misconduct. The irony of this story is that “The Alaska DMV, which doubles as a voter registration office…did not [even] include [the option to identify as a non-citizen U.S. national on official forms] until 2022” and the state has admitted that it “registered an unspecified number of non-citizens to vote between 2022 and 2024.” Now, because of Alaska's own mistakes, some Nationals are beginning to be deported over their erroneous registrations. Beyond the bureaucratic incompetence, this is a story about the American empire designating people outside of U.S. mainland second-class citizens, or more precisely, Nationals, for no discernible reason other than keeping them as a permanent colonial underclass.* Speaking of American imperial expansion, the Financial Times reports Trump administration officials held covert meetings with fringe separatist groups from Canada's oil-rich province of Alberta, such as the far-right Alberta Prosperity Project. According to this report, separatist leaders have met with US state department officials in Washington three times since April 2025, and the separatists are seeking another meeting next month with state and Treasury officials to ask for a $500 billion credit line to help keep the province afloat financially if an independence referendum is passed. This blatant undermining of Canadian sovereignty triggered outcry in the country, with British Columbia premier David Eby saying “To go to a foreign country and to ask for assistance in breaking up Canada, there's an old fashioned word for that, and that word is treason.” This from another story in the FT.* In more Trump news, after a slew of embarrassing incidents including composer Philip Glass pulling his new Lincoln symphony from the Kennedy Center in protest and the arts director resigning after just days on the job, NPR reports the president announced he will close the center for two years for “Construction, Revitalization, and Complete Rebuilding.” As the NPR piece notes, this announcement has sent ripples of confusion through the D.C. arts world, including everyone from performers in long running shows like Shear Madness, which is currently booked at the center through October as well as unions with Kennedy Center contracts, such as the musicians of the National Symphony and backstage crew. Moreover, technically Congress would have to approve of this overhaul, though considering how deferential Republican congressional leaders have proven, they would likely rubber-stamp any proposed changes. Regardless, a long-term closure of the Kennedy Center would be a tragic loss for the cultural landscape of Washington and a humiliating acknowledgment of Trump's own mismanagement of the venerable institution.* Finally, we turn to the tiny island nation of Cuba, which has held out against imperialist pressure from the United States for so many decades. This week, President Trump told reporters “Mexico is gonna cease sending [Cuba] oil,” though he did not explain why, per Reuters. At the same time, the Guardian reports Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has pledged to send humanitarian aid to Cuba adding that Mexico is “exploring all diplomatic avenues to be able to send fuel to the Cuban people,” despite the pressure campaign by the United States. She further claimed that despite Trump's comments, “We never discussed…the issue of oil with Cuba.” The Reuters piece however notes that “Trump has privately questioned Sheinbaum about crude and fuel shipments to Cuba,” and Sheinbaum “responded that the shipments are ‘humanitarian aid,'” and that Trump “did not directly urge Mexico to halt the oil deliveries.” On Sunday, the Hill reported Pope Leo XIV weighed in to beseech that the two nations engage in a “sincere and effective dialogue in order to avoid violence and every action that could increase the suffering of the dear Cuban people,” echoing a call by the Bishops of Cuba. This has been Francesco DeSantis, with In Case You Haven't Heard. Join Lionel for an unapologetic deep dive into the legal and cultural absurdities of the modern world. Lionel dismantles the concept of hate crimes, arguing that the justice system should punish intent and action, not thoughts and motivations. He explains why adding "hate" to a charge violates due process and turns prosecutors into mind readers. The conversation shifts to a blistering critique of fading celebrities like Molly Ringwald and Marjorie Taylor Greene desperately clinging to relevance, alongside a look at the bizarre world of bad plastic surgery. Plus, listeners weigh in on political Islam, the futility of victim impact statements, and why alcohol warning labels are actually just instructions for a better buzz. MDJ Script/ Top Stories for January 28th Publish Date: January 28th Commercial: From the BG Ad Group Studio, Welcome to the Marietta Daily Journal Podcast. Today is Wednesday, January 28th and Happy Birthday to Jermaine Dye I’m Keith Ippolito and here are the stories Cobb is talking about, presented by Times Journal Local student Mathletes to compete in Cobb County Math Contest Support Cobb law enforcement and get a state tax credit Lawmakers push transparency in school board public comments All of this and more is coming up on the Marietta Daily Journal Podcast, and if you are looking for community news, we encourage you to listen and subscribe! BREAK: INGLES 9 STORY 1: Local student Mathletes to compete in Cobb County Math Contest Cobb County’s middle school math whizzes are gearing up for the local MATHCOUNTS competition on Feb. 28 at Marietta High School. Organized by the Cobb County Chapter of the Georgia Society of Professional Engineers, the event will feature teams from Dickerson, Dodgen, and Hightower Trail middle schools. These students have been prepping since fall—hours of practice, problem-solving, and probably a few late-night algebra sessions. The competition includes both individual and team rounds, with topics like geometry, probability, and statistics. Oh, and there’s a fast-paced oral round too—no pressure, right? Winners will snag prizes and move on to the state finals on March 9 in Buford. MATHCOUNTS, a national program, aims to spark a love for math in middle schoolers—because let’s face it, this is the age where kids either embrace math or start running from it. With 50,000 students competing nationwide this year, it’s a big deal. For details, check out www.mathcounts.org. STORY 2: Support Cobb law enforcement and get a state tax credit Tax season is here, and if you live in Cobb County, there’s a way to support local law enforcement and get a state income tax credit. Thanks to the 2022 LESS Crime Act (short for Law Enforcement Strategic Support Act), Georgia taxpayers can donate to approved public safety foundations and get a dollar-for-dollar credit on their state taxes. Here’s the deal: individuals can donate up to $5,000, couples filing jointly can give $10,000, and corporations can contribute up to 75% of their state tax liability. Statewide, there’s a $75 million cap, and each foundation can accept up to $5 million annually. The process? Register with the Georgia Tax Center, wait for approval, and send your donation within 60 days. Funds go toward training, equipment, officer wellness, and community programs. In Cobb, you can donate to: Cobb Sheriff’s Foundation Acworth Police Community Foundation Cobb County Public Safety Foundation Kennesaw Public Safety Foundation Marietta Police Foundation For links and details, visit their websites. STORY 3: Lawmakers push transparency in school board public comments Cobb County lawmakers are pushing for more transparency in school board meetings with House Bill 989, which would require public comments to be broadcast or recorded if the rest of the meeting is aired. Rep. David Wilkerson said it’s about consistency: “If you’re showing the meeting, show all of it. Don’t cut out the tough parts.” The bill comes after Cobb’s school board stopped broadcasting public comments last year, sparking backlash from parents and lawmakers. Critics called it censorship; the board cited liability concerns. Rep. Solomon Adesanya said public comments are crucial for oversight: “If you only hear one side, you control the narrative.” The bill has bipartisan support, with Rep. Jordan Ridley also signing on. “Transparency matters,” he said. “If you’re broadcasting, show the good, bad, and everything in between.” Meanwhile, Ridley floated the idea of an independent audit for Cobb schools, similar to one he championed in Cherokee County. Cobb school board Chair Randy Scamihorn defended the district, saying claims of a lack of transparency are “absolutely false.” Still, he invited lawmakers to review their processes, adding, “No organization is perfect.” We have opportunities for sponsors to get great engagement on these shows. Call 770.799.6810 for more info. We’ll be right back. Break: INGLES 9 STORY 4: Cobb opens $24M joint police, sheriff firing range Cobb County just unveiled its shiny new $24 million firing range, and let’s just say—it’s a game-changer. Sheriff Craig Owens and Police Chief Dan Ferrell cut the ribbon Friday morning, joined by the Board of Commissioners, a crowd of officers, and deputies. The 65,000-square-foot facility, located next to the Public Safety Training Academy in Austell, replaces the old outdoor range that had been around for over 30 years. That one? It had a strict 8 p.m. curfew because of nearby neighborhoods. Now? Training can happen 24/7. The range features three separate areas, including a 100-yard precision range, and a high-tech 360-degree targeting system for realistic drills. Officers can train in low-light, no-light, and even less-lethal scenarios. Paid for with SPLOST funds, the range is a long-term investment in public safety—and a big win for Cobb County. STORY 5: Northwest Georgia voters to head to polls March 10 for federal and, now, state election Northwest Georgia voters are in for a political doubleheader on March 10. Not only will they pick a new state senator, but they’ll also decide if the former holder of that Senate seat, Colton Moore, should head to Congress. Here’s the backstory: Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene resigned in January with a year left in her U.S. House term, triggering a special election for District 14. Moore, who represented Senate District 53 (Catoosa, Chattooga, Dade, Walker, and part of Floyd counties), stepped down mid-January to join the crowded race for Greene’s seat—22 candidates, to be exact. Qualifying for Moore’s old Senate seat runs Jan. 29 to Feb. 2. Voter registration closes Feb. 9, with early voting starting Feb. 16. If no one wins outright, expect a runoff on April 7. Buckle up, northwest Georgia—it’s going to be a busy ballot. Break: STORY 6: Chris Carr talks public safety in Cobb Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr didn’t hold back when he spoke to the Cobb County Republican Women’s Club on Friday. Public safety, he said, isn’t just about stopping crime—it’s about supporting law enforcement, tackling mental health, and improving education. And now, as a candidate for governor, he’s making his case. Carr highlighted his record: creating units to fight human trafficking, gangs, opioids, and organized retail crime. “Keeping people safe is the most basic job of government,” he said. “If families don’t feel safe, we’ve failed.” He shared staggering numbers—over 200 children rescued from trafficking, 115 gang members convicted—and warned about the fentanyl crisis, calling it a “war” fueled by Mexican cartels. His office recently seized 15 pounds of the drug, enough to kill millions. On education, he stressed the importance of literacy by third grade and slammed “woke progressivism” in schools. “Our kids aren’t social experiments,” he said. “Schools should teach reading, writing, and math—not radical ideology.” Mental health? Another priority. Carr called for more facilities statewide, saying jails shouldn’t double as treatment centers. He also floated limiting phones in high schools, blaming social media for worsening students’ mental health. When asked about gambling, Carr stood firm against casino betting, citing addiction concerns. On minors accessing pornography, he tied it to human trafficking and expressed fears about AI being used to exploit kids. Former Cobb GOP Chair Rose Wing praised Carr’s tough stance on drug cartels and said she believes he’d make a “great governor.” STORY 7: Woodstock native Bolt named assistant golf coach at KSU Abigail Bolt, a former Woodstock High School star, is heading back to familiar turf—this time as the new assistant women’s golf coach at Kennesaw State. Owls head coach Ket Vanderpool, who worked with Bolt for three seasons at Georgia State, made the announcement Friday. Bolt, who played collegiate golf at Appalachian State from 2017-21, brings a mix of coaching chops and on-course expertise. At Georgia State, she helped lead the team to nine top-five finishes and four tournament wins. Before that? She honed her skills at Towne Lake Hills Golf Club, running junior clinics and managing tournaments. As a player, Bolt was a standout at Appalachian State, earning MVP honors her senior year and finishing with a 77.81 stroke average. Since graduating in 2021, she’s stayed active in the game, competing in amateur events and continuing to build her career in golf. We’ll have closing comments after this. Let's gather around and warm ourselves on the glow of David Waldman and Greg Dworkin's wit and punditry. We remain under the cloud of a continuing mass shooting, or perhaps the unofficial public execution of dissidents to the Trump regime. Tomato, tomahto. The official line was much less accurate to that but always has the benefit of coming out first and loudest. "The good guy had a gun, so he was asking for it." argument is wearing thin, as typical person-on-the-street Marjorie Taylor Greene can attest. Gops understand the huge difference between now and Jan 6, and that's in the deadliness of the polling. In this case, they are calling for an investigation and might not even destroy any evidence. What can be done to stop this? Thoughts and prayers can get you arrested, but interrupting thoughts and prayers might not get you indicted. Only the National Guard have enough firepower to show empathy. Democrats strongly call to restrain, reform, restrict and continue to apply alliteration until Republicans submit. They might pull some purse strings also, which might be of some help if those strings reached to Qatar. James Comer throws Trump a TACO lifeline. But Donald is already way ahead of him, throwing Kristi Noem under the bus, installing her un-botoxed twin Tom Holman, Zohran Mamdaning Tim Walz, and declaring victory/retreat. Meanwhile, Minnesota Governor contender Chris Madel throws some smoke bombs of his own and disappears.
