It's Halloween and I didn't realize I missed making an episode last year, so boo me. I discovered this fact after I did the podcast, so future me found out what past me didn't know. Some time ago, Linda had a work trip and stayed at a location that was supposedly haunted. What she found was interesting and raised quite a few questions about what really goes on at sites with a reputation for being haunted. Since Halloween is a time when people go to spooky places for a scary experience, I figured her discoveries were worth talking about and exploring. Spoiler alert: go to the haunted houses and have a good time, just be careful, and ask for lighthearted scares if it's a place with a reputation for paranormal activity. Relationships involve the pairing of two people who share the same space throughout the course of their lives. When something in that space breaks, it needs fixing, and it's not always easy to get fixed. Both partners have their opinions about how to fix something, and sometimes one partner has expertise. But what happens when one partner is dead and can't physically fix the problem to the extent you need? You get what happens in this podcast. In this episode, I discuss how our own personal baggage can get in the way of connecting to people we love. Anyone who wants to make the effort to reconnect to their loved ones who have passed over. Talking to the dead isn't exclusive to mediums. However, mediums get their egos out of the way so the non-corporeal can come through. Non-mediums have their own perceptions that frequently get in the way of the connection. I talk about the implications of baggage, how it's affected my connection to Ken in the past, and also bring up how it affects people who want to astral travel, but have difficulties doing so. I've alluded to religion in the past along with bits and pieces of my point of view on the topic. I decided to knuckle down and lay out where I come from when I talk about religion. A majority of stuff is my own personal opinion and my own experience with religion, but I do touch on the "what's out there" aspect that I pick up on from time to time. Once upon a time, a police officer posted on r/Paranormal about an abandoned house dialing 911. I chimed in with my .02 and relayed what I was picking up. I didn't get too in-depth with my posts because I was more concerned with telling OP what was coming through. I've decided it's time to get a little more conversational with podcasts and lay out what's on my mind, tell stories that didn't get into a previous podcast but wanted to get out into the world, and examine whatever's on my mind. This is a hard topic for me to cover, but I felt it was worth doing to help give an insight as to what happens. There's a lot to unpick with what happens to pets after death which makes this podcast a glimpse as opposed to an explanation of what their lives are like after they leave their bodies. I talk about what happens to pets at death, the confusion of transition and how it doesn't last, why they don't resent humans for euthanasia, and a couple of personal stories of my last cat. I point this out in the audio, but I'll mention it again that I've only had cats throughout my adult life. I've worked with horses, known other people's dogs, but I'm cat-centric because that's what I've had the most. However, the stuff cats experience is universal to all animals. All pets are individuals and you know your pet best. My goal is to give you an idea of what goes on and to breathe easy, you will reunite with your pets when it's your time to go home. I had a family member pass away a couple of days prior to this episode. I decided to record my thoughts and feelings while it was still fresh in my mind. I wasn't close to this family member, but I still experience some grief at the passing of someone I know. His passing wasn't unexpected, it just came more quickly than was predicted. In this episode, I relay my feelings, sensations, thoughts and other related experiences as a way of giving insight to what it's like for a medium to experience grief. A simple question started a big conversation between Ken and I. Nothing new there -- when he was alive, we'd get into these deep thinking conversations all the time. This time it happened to start with me asking "why do I never feel you as a cold spot?" and it devolved from there into paranormal investigators. I've only watched one show, Ghost Adventures, over the years. They tend to keep the theatrics down while mostly maintaining a rational method of collecting evidence. Attempts at watching other shows made me turn them off. Except GA. The show drew me in and I kept watching. Nowadays, it's hard to watch, and I explain why in the podcast. But I wanted to give a medium's perspective of how they fit in the paranormal world and why they're a net positive for the world in general. The internet is full of stories of medical professionals who have patients that talk about deceased family members coming to visit. That's when the medical professional picks up the phone and calls in family members to say goodbye. Earlier this week, I came across a post from a set of names that seemingly had a good amount of authority at one point. Somewhere along the line, someone grabbed that wheel and turned it sharply in a different direction. This post was espousing some really bad science and it came from the other side. My face when I read this: o.0 Dear listeners. It pissed me off. And while I don't slam my fist on my desk, much less animated as I speak, I do have the capacity to get angry and talk about it. To the point where I'm putting up this podcast inbetween my normal schedule. Moral of the story is: when one is trying to make the metaphysical and life after death into something that people are interested in having a rational discussion about and exploring the possibilities of, don't ruin it by putting out junk science. As I mentioned in the last podcast, I'd have a conversation with my medium friend, Linda, and see where it went. I edited to minimize pauses and get rid of filler that didn't do much for the conversation. She has a dog who got to barking during the conversation, so I paused and edited it out in order to not blow out eardrums. There's a bit of locker room talk that goes on. I left it in to show that this stuff still goes on even without a physical body. Ken and I zinged each other in life and we still do. Linda is used to it for the most part. Linda and I will do this again in the future, but we'll be more structured about it. After I stopped recording, I brought up hat men and discovered it's not something she was familiar with. In this episode, I talk about the disconnect the living have with the dead and what, if anything, can be done about it. All too often people make assumptions about what's going on in a haunted location, or that everything out there is just waiting for an opportunity to attack the innocent. It's hard to overcome this way of thinking because empirical data on the other side is difficult to come by. What can you do about? You may or may not have heard of the concept of the life contract. Sometimes it's called a soul contract because you agree to connect with other souls during your lifetime in a contract. The truth is, the words don't really address what the contract really is: something that's flexible, helps guide your steps in life, and can be changed when conditions call for it. In this episode, I do as I promised and talk about why parents and children die together or within a period of time of each other. I also got reminded of the passing of Judith Leiber and her husband. This was a special request from Ken who was trying to figure out how to deal with a family member who was driving him nuts with treating him like a saint. It's hard for me to relay something and stay neutral when I know the people involved, but I did what I could. As a result, this isn't one of my (IMO) better podcasts.
