A Harry Potter Podcast full of spells, jinxes and curses (the adult kind!)
Twilight is back and more terrible than ever! And so is our audio! Sorry about that, but this is our final episode we record half a world apart. Next time you hear from us, we will be back in the basement, and up to our regular shenanigans!
Happy summer everyone! Hope you are all finding ways to keep it cool like us cool kids. But don't worry, this Twilight episode definitely doesn't turn up the heat. In fact, the romance in the series' third edition, Eclipse, is quite lack luster to put it nicely. (And we don't really put it nicely.)
Okay, so we are still on this Twilight journey. We know it's all downhill from New Moon, therefore we are excited to talk about how brown this movie is, and how Bella can't fully open her eyes. And yes, we discuss the book at some point. However, keep in mind we haven't read it since we were 16 and thrust into either team Edward or team Jacob, so details are a little foggy and perhaps tainted? Sit tight as we deal with bad boyfriend material and video lag, because the two of us are still half a world away. A special thanks to our loyal listeners for sticking it out through the past year and all the changes that have occurred. We are still ironing out some wrinkles, but ready to continue with all the nonsense you know and love!
Vampires: a tale as old as time. So why did we all get hooked, and then subsequently hateful of this series? Twilight continues to baffle us. So join the shady ladies as we beat the crap out of this book and movie. Oh, and did we mention that this is also a four part series? Maybe part four will even be split into two parts, because we need to drag out the pain a little longer. Thanks as always for listening!
First of all, we apologize for the hiatus we have been on. If you are wondering why, where, who, how, etc., then just listen to this episode because we get into it. But not without also addressing Animal Crossing, German traffic patterns, and sweaty dance classes. Also it is time to dig up all our high school shame, as next time we begin to discuss TWILIGHT. Again, sorry for the break, but we are so glad to be back cackling with you all!
We're back again and later than ever before! You didn't think we'd go a year without a Halloween episode, did you? Lucky for us, Halloween isn't just a day. It's a state of mind. Plus, we recorded this the day after Halloween, so we were still feeling spooky. Anyway, this week we're talking about haunted places in Buffalo. We've got all the classic spooks: haunted theaters, forts, and train stations. But if you're not a fan of the spooky, rest assured we spend a lot of time discussing Buffalo food and hometown classics. Make sure you try the sponge candy. Thank you for the patience as we transition our format and go through some life changes right now. If you listen to even 5 minutes of an episode we are so grateful. Lots of love to you! HELLO ITS GABY WE LITERALLY RECORDED THESE IN SEPTEMBER I JUST DIDN'T POST THEM UNTIL NOW 2020 AMIRITE. I haven't posted the podcast in so long, it's nice to see you all again. How are you? I hope you enjoy this long awaited episode, I will make it up to you somehow! Anyway, go read the episode description I wrote!! Today on our very serious literary podcast, we decided to talk about the 90's TV Shows that made us into readers. You may enjoy this show if you still hum the theme song from The Reading Rainbow. If you wish that your library was run by lions. If the word "Wishbone" means more to you than a Thanksgiving tradition. Or if you came home from school excited to see the adventures of a church mouse. Off topic tangents include in-depth discussion of the Redwall series, Community, and NOT talking about Star Trek. https://www.vote.org/
What do Waluigi, Westley from the Princess Bride, Jess Mariano, and Geralt from the Witcher have in common? They're all bad boys. You know we can't resist those leather jackets (or long purple overalls), defiant attitudes and smoldering eyes. On this podcast, we've taken it upon ourselves to tier rank all the bad boys we could think of (sort of). Find out which boys we would marry, who we thirst after, and who we pretend we do not see. Tangents include Gaby not liking blonde men, full plot summaries of Gilmore Girls, and the fact that we tried to record this podcast three times. Let us know what you think and if you love a bad boy. Sidenote: the next book we'll read together is The Devourers by Indra Das. We're planning to discuss the book in the beginning of October so stay tuned!
Welcome back to our very on topic, very serious literary podcast. This episode we wrap up our discussion on Tomi Adeyemi's amazing book, Children of Blood and Bone. Like I said, this is a very serious discussion that we waste absolutely no time getting to. We do not make absolutely any jokes. We do discuss an epic sword fight, a tragic betrayal and a cliffhanger ending. And if you haven't yet, read the book to experience it for yourself! Thanks for reading with us and thank you for listening as we figure out our new format. We've got some fun episodes coming up and we'll announce our next book club pick soon!
Welcome back to our nonsense book club! We're still enamored with Tomi Adeyemi's Children of Blood and Bone. This week we're covering the first half of the book. So if you haven't read it, watch out for spoilers! Of course, we have to talk more about flip flopper Inan, the relationship between Binta and Amari, and one of the coolest settings in the book....that reminded Casey of Mario? We probably get a little off topic in the meantime. If you've read the book with us, let us know your favorite moments! Next episode, we'll discuss the climactic ending and give our final thoughts on this amazing story.
This week, we’re talking about our first book club book: Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi. We would love for you to read it, because it’s incredible. In this episode we dive into the characters, the setting, and the amazing Tomi Adeyemi. We don’t spoil anything big, but we do reveal some elements of the plot and story. Even if you haven’t read it, listen to us talk about how much we love it, what it’s done for the book community, and the important messages within the text. Look out for our next podcast as we dive deeper into the book, maji, and the world of Orïsha.
Have you ever seen a bird? The answer is no. Because birds aren't real. Want to know why? Then listen to this week's podcast as we dive into conspiracy theories. Can you trust that pigeon? What or who is behind crop circles? What are the limits to what people will believe? And why did people oppose fluoride in our water? Also, Casey might be a witch. On our next podcast, we'll begin discussing The Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi. As we move into a new book club format, we're changing our posting schedule. We are now going to post our podcasts bi-weekly. Two podcasts a month. This gives you guys time to read the books with us, and gives us time to create great podcasts where we dive into the characters, lore, and plots of the books we love. We'll talk about each book we read for two months in total. But don't worry, we'll still have these random episodes as well.If you love listening to our conspiracy theories episodes or any of these silly episodes this month, please consider donating to our patreon. You'll have access to episodes where we play games, goof around, and dive into other conspiracy theories. Thank you so much for listening!
Hey everyone! Sorry that it's been so long since we uploaded, but we are all practicing safe social distancing during these trying times! Enjoy this throwback episode from last summer, and we hope to be back to podcasting soon to bring you all the nonsense! Here's another fun podcast, just for you! We play Muggles Against Humanity. It's similar to another game that features cards against humanity. We have to fill in the blanks with some very ridiculous answers that deal with some weirder aspects of the wizarding world. This one isn't for the faint of heart. The prompts are fun, the answers are vulgar. There is a lot of singing. And we definitely shouldn't play with only 3 people. We had fun recording this one and hope that our patrons enjoy it as well! Follow us! If you've been listening to us for a little while, you know that Paige has refused to read Cursed Child, talk about Cursed Child, or reference Cursed Child as an entity that exists. We're starting a new series, so Paige can finally understand the strange entity that is: Harry Potter: The Cursed Child. We quiz Paige on the events that happen in the first act. Study up and follow along with us. What's up with the Trolley Cart Witch? Why did Draco name his son Scorbus? Why are the characters doing things that don't make sense?!! To be honest, it feels weird to be writing such an upbeat description in a stressful and sad time. We hope this podcast can make you laugh, feel good, and escape your worries for even a little while. If you're feeling cooped up, we hope it feels like you're hanging with friends. And if you're missing March Madness, we've found a solution. We're doing our own version of March Madness this week. We're pitting all of the HP category five monsters against each other, bracket style. Who would win: a beast with five legs, or a giant spider? A basilisk or a horned serpent? Let us know your thoughts and who you think would win! Wishing all of our listeners good vibes and well wishes. Follow us! It goes without saying that the Department of Mysteries in Harry Potter is.... mysterious. The people that work there are called "unspeakables" and literally can't make small talk about their jobs. And remember that huge fight between Harry's friends and the death eaters in the fifth book? (Remember the man with the baby head). Really, we're left with more questions than answers. The hags are digging deeper to reveal the secrets of this somewhat dark ministry department. We talk about the ins and outs of prophecies, what the "love chamber" contains, and what exactly that black veil is. Let us know your thoughts on the department and if you have more questions. Here's a quick recap of our last potions episode: poaching is bad, Snape isn't great, potions are hard to make and cauldrons are like soup purses. Now that you're up to speed, you can listen to our next episode about potions. There's actually A LOT of potions we don't hear about in the HP book and movies. So we're sharing some interesting ones with your today. That's right, we're diving right into cheese based potions. Plus, potions to make someone your best friend, to make someone babble incoherently, and a potion of despair. Let us know what potion you'd try and what kind of potion you'd love to make. Follow us! Welcome to potions 101! Casey, Gaby and Paige are today's teachers. Today, we'll talk about potions class in Hogwarts, Snape as a teacher, and cover the topic of cauldrons. We know you want to know all about cauldrons. Questions we'll cover include wondering why students use these cauldrons as backpacks to carry their books around school. Have you ever heard of a soup purse? What what potions class be like and what kind of cauldron would we use? Which Mickey Mouse Clubhouse character would commit tax fraud? Would you rather have Daffy Duck or Donald Duck act as your lawyer in a court of law? Would you want to teach potions? And for some reason we extensively talk about the topic of hunting and our opinions on it. We hope you learn something! Follow us! Happy Val Day Sab! You won't need a love potion to fall for this week's episode. And that's good cause we spend about 5 minutes debating what love potions would smell like to us. Then we take it back to 2002 and play a game of Harry Potter MASH. Who will live in the Shrieking Shack and work as a janitor? Check out our Instagram to play on your own round, and let us know your future. But wait, there's more! The hags couldn't do Valentine's Day without a hot date. So we played a little game called Mystery Date! Who's gonna spend their Vday on someone's hog? We mean a motorcycle! Right? Listen and play along! Follow us! There was an old man named Seamus Finnigan and he had a best friend named Dean Thomas. Who are you more like? Seamus or Dean? If you're a Seamus, you're a little chaotic, but with a good heart. If you're a Dean, you're level headed and stand by your friends. If you wanna know more, that's good because we have a whole episode dedicated to them. We talk about Dean and Seamus throughout the books and what we think their lives are like post Hogwarts. Keep in touch and tell us what you think of these characters' backstories and who the heck Dean took to the Yule Ball. Follow us! Here comes another episode that we've been talking about doing for a long time. We're talking about the best musical ever written, A Very Potter Musical. So settle in with some Red Vines, cause we gotta get back to Hogwarts. We talk about the history of the show and its cast (hello Darren Criss). Then we share some of our favorite moments, quotes, and play some iconic clips. Keep an eye on our Instagram stories to watch funny moments and to keep in touch with us. This week, we wanted to take the time in a full episode to discuss JK Rowling's transphobic tweet made in December. We've never discussed this, because we wanted to be a light-hearted escape for our listeners. But not using our platform to support the trans and lgbtqia community, would simply be wrong. Trans rights are human rights. We support you. The Harry Potter fandom is so loving because of the people within in that made it that way. We're gonna stand up, and keep it that way. Happy New Year! After a holiday break, we hags are back and ready to kick start 2020 with an episode all about pets. Not just regular pets, but magical pets. We cover what animals are allowed at Hogwarts and what sort of creatures wizards keep as companions. Would you want a three headed snake welcoming you home? Or how about a pygmy puff to eat your stubborn boogers? We also ponder the muggle pets that wizards would just not understand (looking at you, hermit crabs). And some people get really attached to their pet fishes, I guess. Follow us! It's the last episode this year and we're ending with a game! Today's episode was inspired by an Energy Alignment Chart floating around the internet. We each filled in our own alignment charts with characters. It's up to the other hags to guess where we fit each character. If you don't understand, just listen to the episode. Let us know if you agree or disagree and if you fill out your own charts! It's a holiday episode! The hags have a list and they're checking it...nope we're not gonna check it twice. We are way too lazy. But we were in the mood to do some shopping, but we had no one to buy for. It made us think, what would the HP characters ask Santa for? We picked 10 characters and picked out some gifts for them. Who wants to buy Draco a Bugatti? What would Lockhart need? How many pairs of socks can you buy for Dobby? Let us know what gifts you would buy for characters and if you agree with what we bought them. Follow us! Centaurs, and thestrals, and spiders oh my! This week we wander through the Forbidden Forest. One of Harry's favorite places, because even though it's very dangerous and sort of off limits, he's always in there. There's been some pretty big Forbidden Forest moments: Resurrection Stones, murder, and plot twists (no spoilers). And there are those gigantic spiders. We talk about it all and get into some nonsense too. Let us know you're favorite place on the Hogwarts grounds, and if you're brave enough to follow the spiders. Follow us! Can you guess what this podcast recipe is for? 2 / 3 cup of Laughter A teaspoon of talking too loudly into a microphone A dash of talking about the cat in the room 1 store bought Pound Cake A sprinkle of burps, claps, and mic bumps 3 cups of Nonsense You guessed it, if properly baked, this recipe makes an episode of Nargles and Other Nonsense. This week Paige and Casey found Harry Potter Recipes. They read the ingredients and everyone has to try and guess what the recipe is for. That's right, it's another episode where you listen and get frustrated when the Hags can't figure something out! And we complain about British food. The hags sat down for a meeting. "I think it's time we talk about fanfic," Casey said excitedly. "Cool, as long as we're not making fun of fanfic," Paige exclaimed knowingly. "Because we love fanfic and we read A LOT of it," Gaby murmured loudly. Clark said nothing. "Of course. I thought we could talk about the terminology, it's impact on Harry Potter, and we'll read some aloud. It will be a chill," Casey commanded studiously. "What will we read?" Paige and Gaby wondered. "How about "Thirty H's" posted by Jack Fields under the account Secondpillow, and Hogwarts School of Prayer and Miracles." The poster is proudhousewife, but we know her as Grace Ann. Both seem like heavy satires." Paiges cat jumped on their table and they all celebrated and read fanfic for their amazing listeners. That's right, those things that Voldemort made to protect his horcrux. That's right, Rowling's version of zombies. We also get into the origins of zombies, and talk about how they appear in pop culture today. Hear about our plans for the zombie apocalypse. And let us know know your favorite zombie movie trope. The hags are back with more spooky things! This week we're talking about werewolves. Casey suggested we do these episodes and she really opened up a Teen Wolf related Pandora's Box. We talked a little bit about wolves in our episode about Lupin. But we're going more in depth with the monster's historical lore and what it means to be a werewolf in the Harry Potter Universe. Then we discuss our our favorite on-screen wolf guys and gals, from Teen Wolf (MTV's hit show and 80's movie), to Being Human to Once Upon a Time. Who's your fave on-screen wolf? Where spiders scuttle and doorways creak, where streetlights flicker and banshees shriek, the hags will cast some spooky spells and celebrate the Hallows Eve. If you didn't know, the hags love the Fall. And October is the perfect time to talk about some classic monsters. We're starting with a classic: vampires. Did you know JK almost wrote in a vampire professor with an awful name? We talk HP and dive into the classic general lore starting with Bram Stoker's Dracula. But listen, the hags were teenage girls when Twilight came out. So we've got some thoughts about what happened in those books and movies. You know we had to talk about it. Happy October ya'll. Especially if you know Latin. If you'll listen, you'll find out the one that Hermione definitely created. We talk about the types of spells, and conjuring and vanishing. If you've ever sat around and deeply thought about everything the sixth Harry Potter movie got wrong, (and I mean, who hasn't), this podcast is for you. Because the hags are here to complain and yell about it. We discuss everything from the burrow burning, to Ginny in that bathrobe, to the weird Voldemort backstory. But, we applaud Tom Felton for his work as Draco. Truly inspiring. Let us know what you hate or what you love about the sixth movie! We're standing by! Follow us! Get ready friends, we're playing a game this week. Casey plays some of of the most random audio clips from the first four movies. It's up to Gaby and Paige to try to guess the movie and what movie scene the clip is from. That's right, it's a game of Guess that Noise. Settle in and play along with us! Some are pretty tough. Although one of us is very good at this game. Let us know what you thought the sounds were, and let us know if you want us to play this again! Follow us! If you listened to last week's episode, you'll know that we got really worked up over wizard law. With so much magic and mayhem, what's the limits on what wizards can and can't do? We find out and discuss some of the major laws that wizards have imposed on magical creatures, cursed artifacts, and dangerous spells. We can finally explain why the Ministry was allowed to search through Dumbledore's will. But why won't Wizards let the Goblins have wands? And why hasn't Casey ever watched 2005's iconic Disney film: Sky High? Follow us! When we decided to talk about the unforgivable curses, we thought the episode would be a real bummer. Who knew we could get so hype about wizard laws. We discuss the three terrible curses that will land you in Azkaban for life if you're caught casting them. Plus, we get confused about why Hogwarts and the wizarding world are lawless places. But, if you perform magic outside of school when you're 12, you're basically given a life sentence. Whats up with that? Let us know what your curse would be if you could create an unforgivable curse. Last week, we asked on Instagram what you wanted us to talk about and the answer was a resounding vote for beasts! This week, we talk about 9 fantastical magical creatures. From the cute and cuddly, to the superstitions, to destructive pig demons. Grab your copy of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and read along. Listen to our first episode about beasts (featuring Emma) to learn about the classification of magical animals and other introductory facts. Surprise! This episode isn't about Harry Potter at all. Instead the hags have picked a favorite conspiracy theory to share with you! Casey wonders which member of the royal family is a vampire. Gaby investigates a family of bears with a mysterious name. And Paige takes us on a plane ride over a crazy triangle. And it really freaks us out. Which theories are too crazy? Which are too real? Listen to find out and let us know if we should share more theories with you! Follow us! When you think about which character you'd want to be your big sister, who comes to mind? Which character has a name that literally means "metamorphosis fool?' If you're answer to either of these questions is Nymphadora Tonks - you've got the subject of today's episode. Tonks! We just think it would be really cool to be a metamorphagus. Plus we talk about Tonks' family, her relationship, her movie portrayal, and her general badassery. Maybe we get a little off topic. But you're probably used to the nonsense. Follow us! If you listened to our anniversary podcast, you'll know that we talked about the trends that were popular in 2009 when the hags became friends. We had a lot of fun looking back. We even wondered, what trends were popular while Harry Potter was in school? This week, we've got the answers. While Harry was fighting Voldemort, we were collecting Beanie Babies. All we really really want is to know which Hogwarts girls were into the Spice Girls and which Spice Girl Flitwick identifies with. Tell us if you have any 90's memories, and if you know what Casey is talking about when she talks about Pogs. Follow us! Did you really think we'd go through Marauders May, dedicate two whole episodes to Snape, and then never talk about Lily? Really? Cause guess what, this week we're talking about Lily Potter née Evans! (How do you pronounce née, by the way?) Anyway, we talk about how we mostly see Lily is relation to the men in her life. So talking about her get's a little tricky. What would she have thought about the name Albus Severus? We talk about her opinion on Harry, her relationship with Petunia, and Paige and Gaby cast a teen wolf version of the Marauders movie. Plus! Did you know the hags met in 2009? We take a walk down memory lane and bring back silly bandz and other nonsense. Thanks for listening, friends! And thank you to Paul for giving us our Fuck Marry Kill this week! After 50 episodes, 50 games of FMK, and too many sidetrack tangents to count, it's our one year anniversary. On July 31st last year, we released our first ever podcast. So it's only fitting that we do a little reflection. This episode, we discuss life lessons that Harry Potter taught us. We think deeply about friendship, life, family, and plucking up the courage to ask Hermione to the ball before someone else does. Spoiler alert: it gets a little heavy! But hey, we do stay pretty on topic. Thank you so much to all our listeners! And thank you to our patrons! We have so much fun recording this podcast and making it special for you guys. If you've reached out over social media or email, thank you. It means so much. We're so happy you've accepted this weird little podcast that is sometimes about Harry Potter...but is mostly about Twilight. Follow us! Here is Part II! We've talked about doing this since we started podcasting. The Great Snape Debate is on!! We know you love him or hate him. Or you love to hate him. You think he's a hero, or you can't stand him. This week we're giving you our opinions on Severus Snape. Casey plays Devil's Advocate, while Paige and Gaby just continually shout into the microphones. A big warning to the headphone listeners, things get intense. We go through a Severus Snape Pro Con list. The good he's done, and the bad he's committed. Is his love for Lily romantic and unconditional? Or is it skewed? Are his actions for the "greater good?" Does he enjoy abusing positions of power because he was never given any? We discuss all this and more, so give us a listen. Let us know your thoughts on Snape. Tweet us, email us, leave us a comment on any social media. This is a huge discussion within the HP fandom and we're excited to share our thoughts on one of the book's most interesting characters. The hags are finally talking about one of the most polarizing characters in the Harry Potter Universe. Maybe the most polarizing in the whole universe. We've dedicated two podcasts to the one and only, Severus Snape. This is Part I. Part I is all about Snape's fact file. Emphasis on FACTS. It's just a little refresher about his childhood and the role he played in the books. This podcast is impartial, soooo impartial. We only argue over his teaching style (he's not a good teacher, okay). And then we argue about who the Fuck Marry Kill characters should be (hint: they're Outlander characters). Next week, you can listen to see if we think Snape is a hero or a villain and if we like him or not. (We don't). Thank you for listening! Let us know what you think of Snape so we can have a podcast responding to your thoughts! Follow us! This week we're celebrating Independence Day in America. You know what that means. This podcast we'll be drinking beer, ASMR eating corn on the cob while playing Cornhole, and then lighting off fireworks until we lose a finger. Just kidding. But we are talking about wizards in America. Even if you don't celebrate the fourth, we've got still the skinny on Ilvermorny and MASCUSA and our favorite fireworks. Our FMK includes America's Sweethearts (Tom Hanks is involved). So stay tuned for that! Thanks for listening! Follow us! We're back and more off topic than ever! If you love falling into giant google holes of darkness, or if you identified with the characters in Roald Dahl's classic novels, this is a podcast for you. We're google deep diving! We google anything Harry Potter related and see what we can find. Of course, this means we talk about our Halloween Costumes and what houses we'd sort Avengers into. Thank you for listening! We missed you! Follow us! It's another book and movie comparison this week! This time, we're talking about Book 5, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. This movie is pretty polarizing and screenwriters missed a lot of details from the fifth book. Why didn't the stairs to the girls' dormitory turn into a slide? Where was SPEW? Why was Harry always so sweaty during the movie? There's a lot to talk about and we've got alllll the opinions. Let us know what you think of the fifth movie and the fifth book and tell us anything we missed. We're taking a break next week to enjoy our summers! We'll miss you! This week we're playing our own version of Nuclear Winter! We pick 20 random Harry Potter characters, and came up with 20 random attributes. Like Snape, but the only spell he can cast is alohamora. We choose which ten characters we would take with us into a bunker during a nuclear winter. The stakes are high and the attributes we came up with are wild. Would we take Bill Weasley into our bunker if he excessively talked about being a vegan? Listen to find out. Let us know who you would want with you during a nuclear winter! Follow us!
