Welcome back to The Freaky Deaky! Tonight, we're stepping into the shadows of a topic that's haunted humanity for centuries—demonic possession. Not the Hollywood version with spinning heads and green pea soup, but the real, unsettling accounts whispered in church records, scribbled in diaries, and debated by priests, skeptics, and scholars alike. We're breaking it down into four stages: Infestation, Oppression, Obsession, and Possession. These aren't just spooky stories—they're a roadmap of how some believe a malevolent force creeps into a life, starting with whispers in the walls and ending with a battle for the body itself. First, there's Infestation—think unexplained knocks, foul stenches, a sense that something's watching. Then Oppression hits, grinding you down with exhaustion and nightmares. Obsession follows, hijacking your thoughts with darkness you can't shake. And finally, Possession—where the entity takes the wheel, turning your body into its puppet. We've got four true tales tonight, pulled from dusty archives and firsthand accounts. Are these demons real, or just the mind cracking under pressure? Can you really go from free to demon possessed in 4 easy steps? You decide. We'll see you on the inside… ----- TIME STAMPS: 0:00 - Demons, Amirite? 0:56 - Intro 2:15 - Strawberryyyyy 4:03 - Excerpt From Richard Gallagher of Demonic Foes 7:29 - STAGE 1: Infestation 9:47 - Southington Funeral Home Case 12:27 - The Bell Witch Haunting 14:23 - What Draws In Demonic Entities? 15:03 - Past Sins & Sins of the Father 18:23 - Identifying & Breaking Generational Curses 21:41 - STAGE 2: Oppression 23:13 - The Maria Talarico Case 25:03 - The Mary Langdon Case (1670's Massachusetts) 27:23 - How Does a Demon Choose It's Target? 28:23 - Can Believers Get Possessed? 29:53 - Scott Has Control Issues (Obviously though, right?) 33:23 - Spiritual Attacks & Warfare of the Mind 38:36 - Lackadaisical Is Much Ruder Than I Imagined 39:39 - STAGE 3: Obsession 40:23 - Do Unbelievers Suffer Spiritual Attacks? 41:28 - The Anna Ecklund Case 43:23 - St. Columba's Monastery Case 44:53 - Why Do Demon's Target The Mind 45:45 - STAGE 4: Possession 46:23 - The Case of Michael Taylor (Yorkshire, 1974) 47:27 - The Case of Jeanne des Anges (1630's France) 52:43 - "If There's Demons, There's Demons" 53:36 - Majority of The World Believes In Demons 54:54 - Scott's Not Catholic, But Appreciates Confession 56:03 - Accepting Forgiveness Is Difficult 57:23 - Keep Your "Religion is Bad, Blah Blah Blah" Comments to Yourself 60:03 - Next Week: Schizophrenia & The Supernatural (Episode 250) 61:30 - Gregorian Chant Outro _____________________________________________ +PRODUCERS: Eric Long, Daniel Heng, Anthony M, +BECOME A PRODUCER: http://bit.ly/3WZ3xTg +BUY A $9 SHOUT-OUT: https://holler.baby/thefreakydeaky The Twilight Zone meets Mystery Science Theatre 3000 meets an uncomfortable Thanksgiving dinner conversation with your in-laws. WHAT A WEEK, AMIRITE?!?!? It's been seven days since we found out the less-than-desirable results of the 2024 presidential election, and it's feeling like we could all use a candid but encouraging conversation about where things stand. But not before we hear a 1987 lesbian meet-cute! Mary Ellen Capek (who will be eighty-three next month) is a writer, an activist, and a self-described "relapsed Methodist." Her first book of poetry ("Love Lessons: Poems 1973-2023") comes out this Friday, and she's been on an impressive number of boards and committees. Mary Ellen's story includes compulsory heterosexuality, marriage and (incredibly amicable!) divorce, being the "token heterosexual" in lesbian spaces, and a ten-day women's hiking trip that forever changed her life. An expert in organizing and community building, she discusses the importance of keeping our energy up in dark times ("I'm not gonna let that sonofabitch steal my joy!"), and shares practical ways to avoid burnout. It's a funny, tender, and inspiring conversation with someone who has been doing the work her entire life.Like Mary Ellen says, she is easily reachable! Find her on Facebook at facebook.com/mecapek and check out her website, maryellencapek.com (the piece she wrote the morning we recorded is posted at https://maryellencapek.com/some-post-election-thoughts/). Last but not least: find "Love Lessons" online and in bookstores starting November 15th!

Mike talks about getting pegged for the first time. That's not actually true, but he/I felt the need to say something catchy to get your attention... Did it work? (rhetorical question) Anywho.... just listen to the episode you freaking butt pirates!!! Why? Because he/I am/are too tired and lazy to write up a description. I blew my load creating the episode, putting everything into it, leaving nothing on the field, not even the ability to write a description to lure in listeners... The ironies of life, AMIRITE????Ok, fine!!! Self imposed guilt may or may not have led me to coming back to write up a flimsy ass description: I talk about a typhoon, ingrown hairs on my knutsack, the 33rd Olympiad, my experience running Track & Field, how slow my fasting is going, the irony of a Republican that doesn't want tighter gun control getting an attempt on his life with a gun, how Japanese chicks are freaks in the sack, AI, the bachelor party I attended recently in Tahoe, less distractions leading to less masturbation, a bunch of world updates and a bunch of comedy updates. You're welcome, I'm going to bed now. & I didn't use AI to write this because I'm a Saint!
Happy Independence Day to all my American listeners, and what better way to celebrate than a rundown on some of the biggest happenings at the intersection of business, tech, and human experience? Amirite? So, let the celebration begin! Rogue AI Clone - Let's have people interact with an AI clone of me! What could possibly go wrong? A lot as Caryn Marjorie quickly learned as her fans engaged with her AI clone in ways she never imagined. What was most disturbing to her wasn't just the behavior of her fans but the way her AI clone was behaving on her behalf. Meeting Behavior Research - Study reveals that too many meetings aren't good for employees! Who would have thought? While the research had a lot of say about the rising trend of meeting volume, non-participation, and camera usage, we need to be careful not to wrongly conclude, "If we just get people back in a room together, it will all be okay." Future of AI Entertainment - Imagine a world where rather than flipping through pages of options on Netflix you had to think of everything about what you wanted to see in the media. Sounds amazing right? Not really. Ignoring the tech limitations, I don't see human behavior driving us to a world of user-generated media as a replacement for real artistic work. Real Reason for Tech Layoffs - Are GenAI models and AI Agents the nefarious secret behind why so many tech companies are wiping out their tech talent? Not according to Joe Procopio, and I think there's a lot of truth in his assessment. However, given all these things resulting in layoffs, is there any hope for human labor. More than you may realize. Show Notes: In this episode, Christopher discusses the risks and challenges of using AI clones based on the case of influencer Caryn Marjorie, who faced issues when her AI-generated chatbot went off the rails. The episode also explores a massive Harvard Business Review study on the evolving patterns of meetings post-pandemic, highlighting the decline in face-to-face interactions and the increase in virtual meeting fatigue. The third topic addresses the potential of AI in entertainment and my disagreement with Ashton Kutcher's vision of AI-generated movies replacing traditional production. Finally, the episode explores the recent tech layoffs, examining the multifaceted reasons behind them, including overhyped AI expectations, economic conditions, and the inflated value of tech talent. The host provides insights and advice for both companies and employees navigating these changes. 00:00 - Introduction and Welcome 01:06 - The Risks of AI Clones: A Cautionary Tale 11:35 - Harvard Study on Meeting Behaviors 21:54 - The Future of AI in Entertainment 29:18 - Tech Layoffs and the Role of AI 41:02 - Conclusion and Final Thoughts #ai #techtrends #layoffs #chatbots #media

Dave wanted the kids to mess up when they were under their roof and Ann totally didn't want that. Dave helped Ann see a different perspective, where they can lay things down at Jesus feet and know they can handle the things that happen.
My freshman year in college I (Brian) got like, Freshman Drunk at a house party where a home video was playing. My friend Jeff appeared in the video several times, and apparently every time he was onscreen I would slur, from the living room floor, "there's Jeff." The story of Gef (he's Welsh!) the Talking Mongoose seems not dissimilar, except the house where it took place was definitely harder to get to, from the sounds of things. Good thing College Brian wasn't addicted to drugs, or he might have wound up at Narconon, a "drug rehab" program that's "definitely not a Scientology front" and is surely "not responsible for the deaths of numerous patients over the years due to its foundation on utter quackery spouted off by an oily maniac." Dodged a bullet there!
Is the 1980s “color analysis trend“ coming back? Is “digital” image consulting now a thing, along with double breasted suits, giant shoulder pads and terrible perms? It's certainly starting to look that way, as your favorite personal stylist Holly Katz is finding that digital color and style analysis is all the rage right now, and the hottest thing on Tik Tok. This week, we discuss the popularity of the 1980s book, Color Be Beautiful, and how a new wave of Ai and digital styling tools are bringing back color analysis. We also pick apart styling in a box and other online style apps that may - or MAY NOT - be helpful in creating your own personal style. (NOTE: follow along on Holly's Pinterest board for this episode!) In general, this iconic bestselling style guide explained that there are 4 types of color palettes, named after the 4 seasons: spring, summer, autumn, and winter. In her book, Carole Jackson asked, “What Season Are You?” Your choices where: Spring: Your colors are clear, delicate, or bright with yellow undertones. Summer: Cool, soft colors with blue undertones are right for you. Autumn: You look best in stronger colors with orange and gold undertones. Winter: Clear, vivid, or icy colors with blue undertones make you look best. The promise of this concept was to help you define your color personality, learn to perfect your makeup, use color to solve body-shape issues, save money by developing a color-coordinated wardrobe for all occasion, and discover your clothing personality. #thatscute Wow. If this was truly the magic bullet for style success, some of us might not have a job as a personal stylist today! So, is it that this national phenomenon just faded away over the past 30 years? Was the concept wrong? Or did we just get lazier with the rise of the punk rock movement and the rise of fast fashion? In this episode, Holly takes you through her experience as she tries out a “Color Analysis” app on her phone. Her commentary, as she takes you step-by-step through the app's style questionnaire proves to be both hilarious and frustrating. She tried to be open minded. She tried. If you know Holly, she has a point of view on these questions – and especially – the results! In essence, the color you wear cannot be the easy answer to your style questions and concerns. Can certain colors make you feel better when you wear them? Absolutely! Are there some colors that are not good with your skin tone? Double Yes! Should you plan your life around being a ‘warm' or ‘cool' Autumn? Hell no! Why? Because, Fashion Besties, we do not shop for color. We shop for fit. This is our mantra, and you need to have that engraved on your brain. The other reason is that you can't slap a band-aid on your style and expect miracles. When you do the work and know what works for your body type, then you have the freedom to pick the styles that fit you best, then choose the colors of your choice. Even before the pajama pant trend of the Covid era, the accepted work dress code and style has consistently gotten more and more casual. Do we like that? #EWNO Can we work around that? Well, some of us can. (Wait until you get the part in this episode about the recent dress code change in the U.S. Senate. There is a long discussion about hoodies and basketball shorts you need to hear!) If you go back to Holly's foundational philosophy of “How to Stop Making These Fashion Mistakes,” you will remember these key things: Shop for your body shape. Dress your age. Wear the correct undergarments. Clean out your closet chaos. If you start buying clothes online by searching for “teal blue” then you have missed the message. Can you wear teal blue? Of course you can! (As long as it fits well and is age appropriate – and is not the only color you ever wear.) Do not let subscription style boxes or online apps that charge you money lull you into fashion security. Artificial intelligence and robot warehouse packers cannot determine your style. You have to do the work. You still need your brain, and with the constant support of this podcast, you can dooooo iiiiit! Don't give up. Just because “Casual Friday” has become “Casual Everyday” doesn't mean you don't need to get out of your style comfort zone. In fact, we applaud you for trying these apps and subscription services, because it means you care. Don't let digital trends – or any trend – on TikTok or elsewhere dictate what to wear. We are old enough to know better. Do let Holly help you navigate your way to style success. She makes it easy, and very fun! Amirite? This is what chic people do. #justsayin IN OTHER NEWS: In case you missed the WORLDWIDE RELEASE PARTY for Holly's new book…. Did you know that it's the 150th Anniversary of Levi's 501 jeans? We are betting that no matter how old you are right now as you listen to this podcast, you probably went through an era of wearing the iconic 5-button-fly, unisex classic style. AMIRITE!? These jeans date all the way back to 1873. The original 501 jeans by Levi's have stayed true and timeless for well over 150 years. And they're not stopping anytime soon. From rebels to rockstars to factory and millworkers and farmers alike, 501 jeans have been a staple for everyone. In fact, 501 jeans just get cooler and hipper, the older and more worn they appear. Throughout their history, there was no social class, gender, religion, or creed that 501's did not fit. So, when you wear 501s, you are not pigeonholed into any demographic other than being part of Levi's revolution - and what a revolution it is. The style is still true today to the original 501 core values of price, craftsmanship, and durability. And it's now coupled with Levi's modern sustainability efforts. We mean, you literally cannot destroy these things! THE HISTORY: 501 jeans are the oldest style of the Levi's brand. Back in the late 19th century miners and factory workers needed a pant that was sustainable enough to withstand the harsh elements, in addition to keeping their shape and durability over time. Levi Strauss was a Jewish immigrant who sailed to New York City in pursuit of the American dream from Bavaria, Germany. He joined his family in the dry goods business where he was selling what was called “waist overalls,” which was the name for denim pants. He then worked with a tailor from Reno, NV who added copper rivets to reinforcement to the pocket corners. From there, they were awarded a patent for the process of adding the rivets and started to manufacture them in San Francisco, where Strauss was living. Eventually, ladies and children's styles followed, but it wasn't until the 1960s that baby boomers adopted the name “jeans.” LEVI's TODAY: Today, the company boasts a collection of over 400 styles and rinses (colors). The Levi's company is using its birthday to bring forth its efforts on becoming more sustainable and use less energy and water to produce and dye their products. Expect to hear about the release of the plant-based 501s that are made from 97% renewable resources. Now, we don't even know what that means, but we're gonna find out because Holly is gonna get a pair and we are going to learn about this company and its practices! #Yay! HOT TIP: Please look up all of the work Levi's has done to help make the planet a better place! We didn't know how extensive it has been, and now that we do, we love them even more. WHAT JEANS ARE BEST FOR YOU? Obviously: FIT IS FIRST. Not a price point. The 5 Factors: the rise, stretch factor, support, rinse, and price. Don't go by inseam. Most of the time, jeans will be too long. (Note: check out Holly's Pinterest board for all of the recommendations on this episode at: https://pin.it/7fyf8ip) THE RISE: The rise is the distance from your crotch up through your seat to the top of your waistband. So, if you go in between your legs, it is at that point where all of the panels connect. The rise determines where the pants sit on your body and can create, or alter, where your perceived waistline is. You will see “high rise,” “low rise” and everything in between. Based on your body type, the “rise” you choose depends on the fit you are looking for. If skinny jeans are your best fit, wear them forever. What jean fit your body best never go out of style. WHAT TO WEAR WITH JEANS: Any. Thing. Jeans are the new black. They are high fashion. They are low fashion. They are high-low fashion. That is what makes them fabulous and acceptable in most places these days. And, you can never have too many, or too few. But they are a staple, and you need to have some. Style them with everything from cowboy boots to sandals. Dress them up with a nice top and jacket or be fun with a rock-n-roll T-shirt. BOTTOM LINE: Style your jeans up: Accessorize, accessorize, accessorizes. A nice handbag, killer shoes, and statement jewelry can transform any jean into a stylish outfit. Go forth and have fun with your jeans- send us a pic of how you styled them so you can get a shout-out! VOTE FOR US!
