In the American Church today, few figures are as outspoken about the need for Catholics to treat LGBTQ people with love, respect, and compassion as Jesuit priest Fr. James Martin. Martin is also the subject of a new documentary, Building a Bridge, which offers a close look at Martin's LGBTQ ministry—from its origins after the Pulse Nightclub shooting in Orlando in 2016, to Martin's meeting with Pope Francis at the Vatican in 2019. On this episode, Commonweal associate editor Griffin Oleynick speaks with Fr. Martin and filmmaker Evan Mascagni about the film. Dr. Daniel Walden returns to Public Theologians Podcast, this time to discuss his recent article in Commonweal Magazine, titled Gender, Sex and Other Nonsense. In this episode we discuss how our various orthodox Catholic and Protestant Christian theologies can quite easily make space for the experience of our Transgender friends, family, fellow Christians and, well, fellow humans. We also discuss fun topics such as Lockian philosophy, why Protestants tend to favor noted war criminal Oliver North over the patron saint of children, Fred Rogers, and more! Episode 109: Co-op Funds, Approved Vendor Lists and Other Nonsense
Kat, Leo and Bcom are back to review the 5th week of the Summer 2019 anime season! We kick things off with Kat ranting about her hilariously awful experience with Groupon customer service. Leo updates us on his continuing trouble with Remnant of the Ashes, and Bcom reviews then 1979 anime adaptation of Anne of Green Gables. Once we get into weekly anime, it’s time to get in running shape for the Dumbbell girls, which means working hamstrings and abdominal muscles, to embrace their inner Flo-Jo. Two of the Maidens have their eyes set on much older men in their savage seasons, which leads to some very awkward interactions, but the episode ends on a high note with one of the cutest anime confession scenes we’ve watched in a long time. We spend more time hyping up Demon Slayer ep. 19 than actually properly covering episode 18. We wrap up another disappointing episode of BEM with complaints about its directionless story and weak animation from Kat and Bcom. After the break, we get into a divisive episode of Dr. STONE, which had us arguing about whether or not the second half flashback was a waste of our time, and who we would choose to kill off between ourselves, our lovers, or our friends. Our Given segment becomes a storytelling session about our experiences with love at first sight. This week’s Demon Girl Next Door review is a shitshow of the highest order, which Bcom very professionally manages to soldier through. And finally, in Carole and Tuesday, Ertegun has to do some thinking about what he truly wants to be as an artist after tragically handing his financial portfolio over to a horny Pinocchio robot.Recorded August 28, 2019. Bcom, Kat and Leo are back to discuss the 4th week of the Summer 2019 anime season! We kick it off with a bunch of gaming nonsense, and Bcom and Kat both ask listeners for gaming recommendations in a packed late August game release calendar. Once we move onto anime, in Dumbbell, we are puzzled by how different Silverman’s Gym’s operation is from the gyms we know and frequent in the United States. Leo’s not sure if he knows enough words to fill 50 pages like Rika’s love interest in O Maidens. Demon Slayer takes its best shot at making Zenitsu great again, but we’re left relatively unmoved. Dr. STONE already has Yuzuriha trying to sacrifice her life for her male co-stars, which leaves Bcom unamused, and ends with a pretty obviously toothless cliffhanger. Given takes a detour to talk about guitar pedals, which Bcom is very familiar with due to his guitar-enthusiast dad’s expensive quest to create the perfect sound. Bcom isn’t so impressed with episode 4 of the Demon Girl Next Door, and Leo and Kat retreat into the inner recesses of their mind (i.e. take a nap) while he breaks it down. We close things out with Carole & Tuesday, which introduces us to a star named Flora whose past is intertwined with Gus, and shows us a darker side of the music industry.Recorded August 26, 2019. Leo, Bcom, and Kat are back to chat about the 3rd week of the Summer 2019 anime season! A cosplaying teacher joins the dumbbell squad in the latest episode, and we talk a lot about your biceps brachii muscle. In the latest Episode of O Maidens, Kazusa realizes that Izumi watches porn, but is at least reassured that it’s porn related to his transportation otaku hobbies. Kat launches her “Demon Slayer is actually a BL” political campaign, and to be fair she has some strong evidence. The latest episode of BEM represents another in a long line of heated gamer moments. Kat has some advice for Tsukasa from Dr. STONE, which is that when you have to come up with a different word for murder in order to justify it, you might have some issues. Kat has watched so much yaoi that she accurately predicted pretty much everything about Given’s plot. Leo also shakes us to our core with his interpretation of Mafuyu’s singing voice. By the way, the music anime Kat was alluding to in this section was Anonymous Noise. Bcom desperately tries to explain to Kat and Leo why he finds The Demon Girl Next Door so funny. Carole & Tuesday introduces anime David Bowie to the show in an episode that intelligently juxtaposes the show’s political commentary against its belief in the power of music to bring people together.Recorded August 19, 2019. Kat, Leo and Bcom finish up the Spring 2019 anime season with our thoughts on each finale individually, as well as the season as a whole. After the initial recording, news of the Kyoto Animation fire hit, which Bcom takes some time to address at the beginning of the episode. Bcom, Kat, and Leo discuss week 11 of the Spring 2019 anime season. Bcom leads off the podcast with a rave retro review of the first season of Sailor Moon while Kat details her plans for Anime Expo. We jump into a debate about how much Fruits Basket’s Tohru can give of herself to others before it becomes self-harming. It’s about that time in JoJo to start getting really confused about what’s going on, but we do our best to make sense of Chariot Requiem and his arrow of doom. Demon Slayer introduces an extremely annoying new character who Leo determines has less of a backbone than Bocchi Hitori, which is…impressive. Dororo deftly explains the entire philosophy of the show in a climactic debate about how to resolve the conflict between Hyakkimaru and Tahoumaru. The great Attack on Titan lore dump continues with another jam-packed episode where characters keep making excuses for Eren who is having a series of 15-year-old moments. Leo tells us that he grew up with someone just like Garou from One Punch Man, and that guy didn’t turn out very well either. We close out the final episode of Sarazanmai, and try to break down the quite literal abstract concepts that Ikuhara has expressed in wrapping up the show. Finally, we end the episode by discussing whether Carole and Tuesday deserve to keep moving on through the Mars Brightest contest given the strong competition they’ve been facing.Recorded July 2, 2019. Leo, Bcom, and Kat discuss week 10 of the Spring 2019 anime season. Bcom kicks things off by poking some fun at Netflix’ new translation of Evangelion. Kat strategizes the best way to give a boy Valentine’s Day chocolates in our discussion of Fruits Basket. The cast of JoJo have an out of body experience in the latest episode and Mista learns the pain of wearing cute panties. We debate whether the crow or a soon-to-be-introduced character from Demon Slayer is the most annoying character of the season. Everyone’s getting extra arms and eyes in Dororo now, as the series comes to its epic climax. Attack on Titan episode “That Day” takes about an entire day to record, because it’s one epic lore dump. Orochimaru apparently showed up in One Punch Man this week, or at least we thought he did. The reveal of Reo’s true name in Sarazanmai absolutely infuriates Bcom who realizes he missed out on 9 weeks of Leo puns. And finally, we close out the episode with some speculation about the latest dramatic events between Tuesday and her stalker Cybelle, who may have ruined the girls’ chances in the Mars Brightest contest.Recorded June 25, 2019. Kat, Leo, and Bcom discuss week 9 of the Spring 2019 anime season. In the latest episode of Fruits Basket, the zodiac cow is able to hide in plain sight to the annoyance of Kat. Jojo’s Polnareff apologizes for assuming a character’s gender, which is quite progressive for when this manga was actually written. Bcom breaks down temari and kemari in an action-packed episode of Demon Slayer. Dororo has gone a lot of weird places, but now it has pokemon apparently too. And finally, in Attack on Titan we finally found out what’s in the basement…sort of. One Punch Man aired an episode. It was a thing that happened. Sarazanmai’s latest episode forces Tooi to choose to connect with either older brother or his close friends. The beat of GGK’s song in Carole & Tuesday breaks Leo’s brain, and that’s before the Mermaid Sisters even take the stage.Recorded June 18, 2019. Leo, Bcom and Kat discuss week 7 of the Spring 2019 anime season. This week we break down the double announcement of Google Stadia and a Destiny 2 expansion, which left us with polar opposite impressions. We jump into Fruits Basket episode 7, where Spring comes, Winter melts, and Kat can’t handle any of it. The latest episode of JoJo delivers on a fan-favorite moment from the manga with the help of the Muda Muda Staff. Bcom nitpicks the living hell out of the latest episode of Demon Slayer, where everything is unclear, but at least Leo’s crow impression is right on target. We really didn’t like the latest episode of Dororo, but luckily we’re saying the opposite of what we mean. The latest episode of Attack on Titan is filled with various acts of heroism and sacrifice, making for one of the most emotional roller coasters of the season so far. Kat chooses this moment to provide the young listeners in our audience with a very important PSA. One Punch Man continues to try to explore multiple storylines at once, and Bcom’s not thrilled with the show’s execution. Just when things seem to be getting better in Sarazanmai, the rug is pulled out from under us, and there’s more drama than we thought. Carole & Tuesday’s latest shortcut to stardom is through a talent competition, which showcases some of Mars’ best, but mostly its weirdest performers.Recorded June 6, 2019. Bcom, Kat, and Leo discuss week 8 of the Spring 2019 anime season. We kick things off with a bit of an E3 wrap-up and our thoughts about the current state of the console wars. Kat then chats about her convention coffee nightmare, and how she whipped her co-worker into shape, both of which are certainly related acts. Once we get into anime, Leo is growing a bit bored of Fruits Basket, which continues to be somewhat directionless. An old JoJo character shows up in Golden Wind in a Silver Chariot, and Bcom totally forgets what Doppio looks like. Demon Slayer showed off the diabolical power of its main villain, Muzan Kibutsuji, and also shows off the legs of its childlike, but somehow not childlike little sister, Nezuko. Hyakkimaru continues to lose more of his humanity in his quest to regain his human body as Dororo gears up for its final stretch. During Attack on Titan, Kat determines that she needs to buy Bcom a Hange Zoe body pillow, and Bcom details exactly what he’d want from such a product. Kat tells us all about Big Daddy One Punch and rants about the absurdity of Watchdog Man. Sarazanmai teaches us the disastrous consequences of putting too much pepper in your cucumber ramen. Kat wants to “pow” M-Pop artist Pyotr right in his Justin Bieber-esque face, as Carole & Tuesday moves into its American Idol arc.Recorded June 13, 2019. Kat, Leo, and Bcom discuss week 6 of the Spring 2019 anime season. It’s the halfway point of the season, which means it’s time to debate midseason cuts, which you can find towards the end of the podcast. Before we jump into anime, Leo talks about how he literally couldn’t see the monsters in the latest Godzilla movie. Kat is more concerned about the anatomical intricacies of a Mothra-Godzilla pairing. We also chat about a pair of Russia-centric TV shows in The Americans and Chernobyl that Bcom and Kat recommend checking out. In episode 6 of Fruits Basket, Kat is absolutely livid with Tohru for being a [very naïve person]. Yeah, let’s go with that censoring. It also introduces the trope of the mysterious childhood love interest, which has us all rolling our eyes. Kat continues to demand an explanation for Bruno’s zombie-like state in JoJo, and also questions the Roman police’s lackadaisical response to an apocalypse breaking out in the middle of their city. Demon Slayer’s sound director went a little overboard with the grinding teeth noises of this episode’s multiple personality disordered demon. Kat is shocked at Tanjiro’s incredible acrobatic moves with his big hoop earrings getting in the way. We get distracted by the demon “frog” shark in the latest episode of Dororo, and we complain about taxonomy for a bit. We also manage to disagree on multiple tiny, insignificant aspects of the episode. Bcom is very excited at the confirmation that baseball exists in the Attack on Titan universe. Kat decries the horrible existence of Cockroach Man in the latest episode of One Punch Man, and wonders how deep the psychic connection between Tatsumaki and Hellish Blizzard really goes. She also loses it over the introduction of our latest eponymous hero, Snek. Keppi shows off his pole dancing skills in this week’s Sarazanmai, and the emotional wound between Kazuki and Haruka is finally mended. Carole & Tuesday get the opportunity to perform in front of a huge crowd, but it doesn’t go exactly as planned. As for us, we fell in love with the newly introduced characters of Skip and Crystal who have subtle, but well-established chemistry. Finally, we move into our discussion of potential midseason cuts, and discuss several other shows that we’ve been keeping up with as potential replacements.Recorded June 3, 2019. Bcom, Kat and Leo discuss week 5 of the Spring 2019 anime season. It turns out we all saw John Wick 3 this week, so we start out by raving about how fun the third installment of the franchise was. We move on to Fruits Basket, where Tohru is away from the Souma household for much less time than we initially expected. Bcom is annoyed that JoJo’s part 5 has basically given us the equivalent of “Stand midichlorians,” in a completely unnecessary explanation of the origin of Stand powers. Demon Slayer introduces Tanjiro to his new sword, but more importantly, his new crow, which Kat and Leo both mimic to the best of their ability. Yuki Souma makes a guest appearance in Dororo in his rat form, but he’s gained a bit of weight and it’s given him a nasty attitude. Armin tries to get under Bertholdt’s skin, and Mikasa tries to attack him, but it’s clear in this episode of Attack on Titan that the Colossal Titan has matured into a very different person. Bcom wonders if Saitama or Metal Bat’s little sister has a stronger slap, as they seem equally effective in the latest episode of One Punch Man. ONE also continues to display his obsession with introducing way too many goofy characters at once. With the latest episode of Sarazanmai, as Leo puts it, Kazuki’s “inner Sasuke” is very strong, and Bcom attempts to make sense of his many conflicting emotions. After Kat ponders the point of A.I. pets in the latest episode of Carole & Tuesday, Leo tears up at the girls’ first live concert.Recorded May 26, 2019. Leo, Kat and Bcom discuss week 4 of the Spring 2019 anime season. Fruits Basket introduces us to the newest member of the zodiac family, the boar, whose tsundere antics annoyed Bcom. Kat imagines what it would be like having her mouth sewn shut as we discuss the latest episode of JoJo, where we lost one of our heroes. Tanjiro learns how to use his water vaping techniques to defeat his first major demon. While Bcom was horrified by the carnage of the pet sharks in episode 16 of Dororo, Kat, an intellectual, just kept thinking of the Baby Shark dance. The scouts use a new weapon to bring the Armored Titan to its knees, and Kat learns the difference between Erwin and Armin. The latest episode of One Punch Man has Kat and Bcom imagining a “Centibuddies” anime following the activities of Centisenpai and Centikouhai. Leo drunk watches Sarazanmai, which unfortunately didn’t improve his viewing experience. Carole & Tuesday make the best worst music video of all time, and Leo guest stars in the show as a beer-drinking robot.Recorded May 13, 2019. Kat, Leo and Bcom return to break down the 3rd week of the Spring 2019 anime season! After an intro where Kat channels her perfect impression of Laura Bailey’s Tohru Honda, Bcom kicks off the nonsense section by warning people off SAO: Alicization, and raving about Nichijou. Kat gives her spoiler-filled thoughts on the 3rd and 4th episodes of the final season of Game of Thrones. She then somehow traumatizes herself by comparing Kyou’s “dud” rice balls with Bertie Bott’s booger-flavored beans in our discussion of this week’s Fruits Basket. Kat also predicts that Leo will die due to a lack of chives in his diet. Leo can’t get over Doppio’s bizarre name and Kat fact-checks the amount of iron that would be available in the human body to pull off some of Risotto’s stand powers. Nezuko catches up on some much-needed sleep while Tanjiro spends 2 years on an epic shounen training arc in Demon Slayer. Bcom feels like Dororo’s latest episode covered some of the same ground unnecessarily, but Kat was more focused on the viability of sexing up a ghoul. Attack on Titan started a few weeks late, so we finally get a chance to dive into the first episode of season 3’s second half. Let’s be honest, it’s just season 4. Kat has some Tank Top Trouble telling characters apart in One Punch Man and her inner gyaru girl leaks out. We have a butt suckin’ good time talking about Enta’s hallucinations in the latest episode of Sarazanmai. Bcom is pissed that everyone ordered the same exact pizza at Carole and Tuesday’s meeting with their new manager, and Kat explains that no girl in their right mind goes swimming in full make-up. We also debate the realism of New Yorkers joining in with the Dancing Laundry musical scene, rather than yelling at the girls to shut up.Recorded May 6, 2019. Bcom, Leo and Kat are back with their first impressions of the Spring 2019 anime season! We kick things off with a short spoiler discussion of Avengers: Endgame, which we were all dying to chat about. Then we dive into this anime season, which despite having fewer shows airing overall than in Winter, still has some major standouts that we’re excited about. Of course, it also contains some absolute steaming piles of trash, which we take great pleasure in ripping to pieces. Leo, Kat and Bcom close out Winter 2019 with reviews of the 12th and final week of the anime season. We finished off the last two episodes of Mob Psycho II, which left us wishing the show had kept the tone of the first half of the season, rather than switching half-way through. Run With the Wind defied our expectations and gave us a very satisfying ending to the running boys’ journey. Kemurikusa hinted at a potential sequel while also wrapping up the emotional arc of the narrative in a neat way. Domestic Girlfriend got dumber than ever before, and had us all wigging out. The first half of the Kaguya finale had Bcom squeeing over both the romantic fireworks and the fantastic direction and cinematography. Dororo finishes off its first half by giving us more plot development with Hyakkimaru’s family than we had expected to get at the half-way point. We move on to some quick reviews of the shows we watched outside of the podcast, before finishing off the season with our final reviews and scores!Recorded April 20, 2019. Kat, Leo, and Bcom are back to discuss week 11 of the Winter 2019 anime season. Mob continues to preach philosophy to villains we don’t really care about as we struggle to care about anything outside the brilliantly animated fights of Mob Psycho II’s 11th episode. Run With the Wind sprints forward with King passing the sash onto Kakeru who enters another running dimension, which Kat think just sounds painful. Bcom is blown away by just how well Kemurikusa brought all of the threads of its sci-fi narrative together, while raising even more interesting questions. The Promised Neverland pulls off a big surprise in its penultimate episode, but we get bogged down in the psychological logistics of cutting off your own appendages. Jojo episode 24 prompts us to talk about airplane depressurization and respecting Notorious B.I.G.’s legacy, as only JoJo can. Domestic Girlfriend adds an unlikely member to Natsuo’s harem and finally hits at making Hina and Natsuo face consequences for their reckless public displays of affection. Bcom enjoyed the fanservice in this week’s episode and Chika’s ramen adventures, but Leo felt the last skit represented too much of a tone-shift from the normal comedic shenanigans of the show. We also finish off with the first of a two-part arc of Dororo, which will finish off the season by re-uniting Hyakkimaru with his family and Chevy Tahoumaru.Recorded April 19, 2019. Bcom, Kat, and Leo are back for week 10 of the Winter 2019 anime season. We weren’t that pleased with this week’s episode of Mob Psycho, but we did get some great advice from Kat to the youth of the world, and learned about Chinese Hopping Vampires. Run With the Wind focused on Yuki and Nico’s sections of the final race, and we had some handy advice for Yuki’s mom and Leo asks which guy of the group Kat would bang if given the opportunity. This of course transitions into Kat asking which of the Kemurikusa girls Leo and Bcom would pick. Bcom and Leo also introduce Kat to the glory of the movie Demolition Man, when explaining the scene where Wakaba touches Rin’s memory leaf. Bcom has some thoughts about the timeline that The Promised Neverland takes place in and we have some interesting ideas about Norman’s fate after leaving the orphanage. Jojo gave us an epic battle between The Clash and Aerosmith this week, but Kat just got lost in Tiziano’s eyes and hair. Domestic Girlfriend gets us on the topic of the trope of girls who can’t cook in anime, and we collectively roll our eyes at the way in which even Natsuo’s misfortunate injury turns into more opportunities for sexy times with his sisters. We break down the many, many issues we had with this week’s episode of Kaguya-sama, and detail some ways we wish they had been clearer about Kaguya’s desires. We finish off with an episode of Dororo that had us craving for crab meat and butter, and Leo tells us about how he almost got sucked into a drained lakebed.Recorded April 4, 2019. Leo, Bcom, and Kat are back to talk about week 9 of the Winter 2019 anime season. Bcom raves about his early experiences with Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. Kat went to see Us and encourages people to go see it. Leo saw Captain Marvel, and felt pretty meh about it. Kat is disappointed that Mob Psycho II episode 9 didn’t stick to its guns and walked back the dramatic climax of last week’s episode. Instead it introduced a variety of new elements that had us feeling a little narrative whiplash. We argue a bit over whether Run With the Wind’s latest episode was too overdramatic, and come to several different verdicts. We meet “two” new sisters in Kemurikusa who start to complete the puzzle about the mysterious past of the show, and Kat begins to lose her mind over the disparity between her opinion on the show and Leo’s. We watched The Promised Neverland and…Ray has fetus memories, which Kat brilliantly refers to as plot spackle. Yeah. Moving on, Kat’s cat takes issue with her making blatantly racist requests of Bcom during our JoJo Part 5 discussion and viciously attacks her on Bcom’s behalf. Kat calls Narancia a hick, and Leo engages in some serious hick gate-keeping and gives us a lesson in true hickness. We finally reach the point of Domestic Girlfriend where Leo began to lose faith in the manga, and when Bcom starts to get a sense that this anime is reaching for heights even stupider than he expected. Kaguya has its first truly connected three-part episode, which impresses us on the one hand, but the content of the main gag leaves us questioning if the same jokes couldn’t have been executed in a smarter way. Finally, Leo gets to reveal an important fact about Dororo that he’s known since last podcast, and wishes we had known this information from the beginning of the show.Recorded March 25, 2019. Kat, Leo, and Bcom are back to talk about week 8 of the Winter 2019 anime season. Bcom tells all about the near-riot at his screening of Heaven’s Feel Part II. Kat and Leo met up with Brains and had a drunken good time. Leo breaks down an episode of Mob Runs With the Wind that turned very dark towards the end in a way that Kat is really into, and which Bcom compares to Avenger’s: Infinity War. We move onto the actual Run With the Wind where Prince and Musa learn about their own personal reasons for running, and where we maybe finally learn who Hanako likes. Kat gets triggered by a cat noise the eldest Kemurikusa sister made, and we talk about the inevitability of lewding the kemurikusas, and some fox-eared merchandise we need to exist. We move on to Krone’s endgame in The Promised Neverland and begin to see the truly horrifying depths of Isabella’s control. We finally are introduced to the meme that is King Crimson in JoJo Part 5, and we honestly can’t remember large sections of the episode…weird. We learn some important advice for dating your sisters in Domestic Girlfriend episode 8, as Natsuo continues to navigate these stormy waters. We’re finally introduced to Miyuki’s imouto in Kaguya only to find out Chika ALSO has sisters. Can Kaguya possibly pander any more to Bcom? We end with an episode of where Dororo tries to show that kids can fight demons just as well as Hyakkimaru.Recorded March 20, 2019. Bcom, Kat, and Leo are back to talk about week 7 of the Winter 2019 anime season. In this week’s episode of Mob Psycho, Reigen’s psychic abilities are put to the test on a live variety show which clarifies how important Reigen’s partnership with Mob is in defining his future. Our favorite running boys make their final preparations for the Hakone Ekiden, and we make some not-so-bold predictions after learning the section assignments for each leg of the race. Kat feels Kemurikusa has become too much like a video game, and Bcom and Leo are just looking for a controller to grab. In The Promised Neverland, Sister Krone opens our eyes with some new information about the relationship between the humans and demons in the world outside the orphanage, but Isabella appears to be two steps ahead of everyone. After an impromptu karaoke session, we jump back into JoJo where we get our first glimpse of the infamous King Crimson, but we lose track of time chatting about squid ink pasta, fishing, and double-tapping your enemies. At some point we move onto Domestic Girlfriend, which continues to cement itself as the greatest anime in existence, and also teaches Leo and Bcom an invaluable lesson about the role sock puppets can play in winning over a woman’s heart. After we complain about Kaguya’s boring episode titles, we learn that it’s essential to get a part-time job and a boat license before even considering holding your crush’s hand. We finish off with an episode of Dororo that raises questions about the true nature of demons, and whether Hyakkimaru must actually slay them all, or if some can be saved.Recorded March 6, 2019. Leo, Bcom, and Kat return to discuss week 6 of the Winter 2019 Anime season. It’s the halfway point of the season, which means we need to evaluate where we’re at, and make any midseason cuts if necessary. At the halfway point of Mob Psycho, Reigen finally has to try to find his way in the spirit-cleansing world without Mob’s assistance, and gets in over his head. Meanwhile, on Run With the Wind, the guys scope out the Hakone race, and also try to quell Jota and Joji’s doubts about Haiji’s true reasons for aiming for the top. A new sister shows up out of the blue in Kemurikusa and shows Wakaba how to harness the power of the leaves to protect the others and uncover the world’s secrets. Kat says the show makes her feel dumb…Leo has a theory about why that is. The Promised Neverland kids continue exhibit completely ridiculous knowledge, like understanding Morse code, and we discuss the apparent differences between Krone’s characterization in the manga and anime adaptation. Kat discovers Giorno sounds like DiGiorno and the podcast is off the rails again, before we get back on the rails by learning the correct pronunciation of bruschetta. Domestic Girlfriend expands its harem criteria to allow for male teacher in addition to female teachers, as it continues to layer taboos on top of each other in an effort to create the most ridiculous parody of romance drama ever made. Bcom’s a bit underwhelmed by the newest member of Kaguya’s student council. Dororo finishes off its first two-episode arc with a depressing, but touching finale demonstrating the nobility of trying to survive and rebuild in the tumult of endless war. Recorded March 3, 2019. Kat, Leo, and Bcom return to discuss week 5 of the Winter 2019 Anime season. We kick off the podcast with some brief thoughts about the results of the Crunchyroll anime awards, which we obviously don’t agree with. Afterwards we chat about some of the nonsense we’ve been up to before jumping into Mob Psycho 100 II. Episode 5 was a showcase for some of the most spectacular animation in a TV anime in quite some time. The Run With the Wind boys take one step closer to the Hakone Ekiden, which took Kakeru turning into a glowing blue god of running to accomplish. It’s a fairly uneventful week in Kemurikusa so we breeze past that and jump into The Promised Neverland where we re-evaluate our suppositions regarding future developments of the show, and poke some fun at Norman and Ray in the process. The Golden Experience boys struggle to avoid frostbite when they face off with Ghiaccio on the road to Venezia. Leo can’t believe Giorno didn’t think of transforming them into Water Bears. But, everything up until this point was just an appetizer. The main course is Domestic Girlfriend episode 5. Bcom believes it’s possibly the greatest episode of anime yet envisioned. Mob Psycho tried, but it was like administering your medicine orally. Sure, it’ll do the trick eventually, but if you want fast-acting anime relief, you need to go to the source. Natsuo needs only support Rui by supplying supreme suppositories superbly to suppress his stepsister’s supplication. It’s a super good episode. We move onto Kaguya where Chika’s love advice involves reaffirming that they do indeed live in a society, and she will raise these boys to become respectable men. We finish off with the depressing first half of a two-part Dororo episode where Hyakkimaru finds his first love in the soothing presence of Mio, the protector of an orphanage ravaged by the ongoing wars.Recorded February 18, 2019. Bcom, Kat, and Leo plunge into week 4 of the Winter 2019 Anime season. We recorded this episode on Valentine’s Day, and apparently Kat was so love drunk that she totally watched the wrong episode of Mob Psycho 100. To be fair, she was only off by an entire season. Luckily, Bcom and Leo rattle a synopsis off the top of their heads with surprising accuracy. Run With the Wind’s latest episode exhibits some incredibly unsafe hydration practices, which lead to predictable disaster. We continue to try to make sense of Kemurikusa as they battle a giant bug with some smart strategy. We also discover that the only true way to experience The Promised Neverland is wearing a VR headset. JoJo teaches us that laptops can kill more than just your bank account. Leo coins a new name for the sisters from Domestic Girlfriend, which fits them just…perfectly. Kat finally comes around on Chika in the latest episode of Kaguya-sama. Crunchyroll unfortunately has a stroke trying to translate the first few lines of the episode. Finally we cover JoJoJo, I mean Dororo, which turned in another really strong episode this week, with some incredible sound design in particular.Recorded February 14, 2019. Lyndsay and Jonah are back, ready to kick off Season 2. In this episode of Other Nonsense, the two discuss what they've been up to during their break, their goals for this year, and a glimpse of upcoming episodes for the exciting second season of Pan Historia.
Leo, Bcom, and Kat are finally starting their weekly reviews again! It’s week 3 of the Winter 2018 Anime season and we have a lot to be excited about. Kat gives us a whole new way to think about Mob’s progress to explosion…we’re very sorry if you can’t get this out of your head. Leo finally found a way to relate to Run With the Wind in its 14th episode. Kemurikusa starts to unravel some of its many mysteries, but still keeps us guessing at where everything is heading. We move on to the menacing 10-year-olds of The Promised Neverland and their new caretaker Krone, which is providing another entertaining puzzle box to solve. Bcom suffers through Kat and Leo’s outlandishly poor pronunciation of Italian names in JoJo Golden Wind, and Bcom and Kat gleefully rejoice when Leo’s memory is actually wrong for once. Leo struggles to understand why Bcom and Kat actually love watching Domestic Girlfriend for the podcast, given its taboo themes and incredibly dumb overarching plot. Bcom breaks down the production of the greatest ED of 2019, with Chika Fujiwara’s love detective dance at the end of Kaguya episode 3. Kat also breaks down U.S. vs. Japanese statistics for high schoolers’ rates of sexual activity, with U.S. numbers that would make Chika blush. We finish off the week with Dororo giving us the epic backstory of the creation of Hyakkimaru’s prosthetic appendages and the journey that brought him to his current state.Recorded February 5, 2019. Kat, Leo and Bcom have returned to close out the second half of their Winter 2019 first impressions and pick the top 8 shows that we’ll be following this season. After Leo and Kat cry about work and the freezing cold weather, Bcom cries about the Kristaps Porzingis trade. Once we get into anime, Bcom has some special Swedish intelligence to help understand the main love interest of Girly Air Force. We felt Quintessential Quintuplets offered a surprisingly inoffensive ecchi harem setup, when compared with typical genre offerings from the past couple of years. Our review of Grimms notes was…well, grim. Boogiepop and Others might work better as a light novel than an anime, in our opinion, as it left us wanting more context. The Price of Smiles was a bit too expensive for us, apparently. Magical Girl Spec-Ops Asuka is another in a long line of underwhelming post-Madoka dark magical girl shows, but this one at least made us laugh. Domestic Kanojo’s hentai-esque premise with high quality art and direction caught Bcom’s attention. Kat was pleased that actual sex took place in the first episode of an anime, for once. We caught up on the first half of JoJo Part 5 and attempted to explain the insane escapades the boys are currently getting up to in Italy. Bcom reports in from the frontlines of W’z where nothing makes sense and DJ Juice has captured the hearts and minds of Osaka with his absolutely terrible music. Our review of Kaguya-sama: Love is War devolves into Kat offering up a $50 gift certificate for the “Bride of Bcom” prize contest if listeners recreate Chika’s dance from the episode 3 ED. We move to a somewhat clever cute girls show called Endro, before continuing with a not very clever comedy in Miss Ueno. Bcom loved the incredible CGI aerial dogfights in The Magnificent Kotobuki, while Kat was more focused on how they made their pancakes so damn fluffy. Leo discovers he wants to ride the dragon as we review the first few episodes of Mysteria Friends. After everything has been reviewed, you know what time it is! We end our impressions with the VOTE, which determines the top 8 shows we’ll follow this season.Recorded February 2, 2019. Bcom, Kat, Leo are back for a brand new year of anime ripe with possibilities! Winter 2019 is upon us and it’s time to dig straight down until we find some diamonds in the rough. We start out raving about Dororo and Mob Psycho II, which both showcased fantastic art style and animation. The new Kemono Friends aren’t as fun or educational as the old ones, which disappoints Bcom. Leo winces as Kat and Bcom get pumped up by the return of Run With the Wind. Kat holds an intervention with Japan about its now well-established trend of adult female child molester anime, which continues with WATATEN. After the break, we start on a much more hopeful note with one of the better thriller shows we’ve seen in quite some time, in The Promised Neverland. Kat teaches Bcom how to correctly pronounce Sasuke. Bcom teaches Kat about Dutch Angles. Leo, the cat whisperer, teaches us how to recognize what your cat wants at any given moment. We learn a lot from each other this episode, honestly. Kat can’t imagine why her co-hosts would like a mysterious show involving a girl with fox ears, but Leo and Bcom are way too into Kemurikusa to stop the hype train. We continue to put off talking about Shield Hero for as long as possible by chatting about our favorite JoJo characters. Leo, Kat and Bcom return to deliver an epic review of 2018 anime as a whole. We go season by season through all the anime we covered, and some we didn’t, and give you our current thoughts and recommendations. After that, we undertook a rigorous statistical review of our podcast breaking down certain trends that continued throughout the year, and found out who truly is the best picker of locks out of our hosts. The answer may surprise you. Finally, we break down our top 10 anime of the year, both personally, and for the podcast as a whole.Recorded January 21, 2019. Kat, Leo, and Bcom are ready to finish off most of Fall 2018’s anime with the 12 week of shows! The finale of The Girl in Twilight satisfied some of us and infuriated others, by giving us some of the most visually impressive moments of the show, but depriving us of closure on several major plot points. We have a prolonged discussion about whether Nopperabo has eyelids in the season 2 finale of Golden Kamuy, which finishes with many dramatic reveals and shifting alliances, and importantly, the return of our favorite C.G.I. bear. Run With the Wind is Gone With the Wind so we move onto Kat struggling to recount Kaede’s arc of Bunny Girl Senpai without strangling someone. After some bad Arby’s almost killed Leo, we came back 2 days later to continue the second half of the podcast with Banana Fish. Bcom pretty much lost his shit at the ending of this show, which seemed to throw away any good faith it had ever built up over the course of its run, with a conclusion that felt incredibly mean-spirited and unsatisfying. As Zombie Land Saga wraps up, Kat continues to profess her undying love for her soulmate Yuugiri, but is annoyed with the generic idol ending we got. Karakuri Circus continues to confuse us with insanely rushed storytelling that leaves us bewildered and pining for the good old days when the series was really promising. At this point, just read the manga instead of watching the anime. Bloom Into You closes out its penultimate episode by ratcheting up the drama to 11, and exposing Touko’s deepest flaws in the process.Recorded January 3 & 5, 2019. Leo, Bcom, and Kat close out Fall 2018 with reviews of the remaining few episodes, and final scores for all of the anime we watched this season! We start off by chatting about the finales of Bunny Girl and Bloom Into You, neither of which came to a completely satisfying conclusion. Then, because of our eight show weekly format this season, we had a lot of extra time to watch anime outside of the podcast, and we run through many of those, such as SSSS.Gridman, Irozuku, Black Clover, and Hi Score Girl, just to name a few. Finally, we dole out our final scores and thoughts on our top anime picks of the season. With all that done, we will see you next episode for a 2018 year in review episode!Recorded January 5, 2019. Bcom, Kat and Leo are back to talk about Fall 2018’s 11th week of anime! After we chat a little bit about Aquaman’s glistening chest, Florida’s horrifying morning sun, and the cute nostalgia of Hi Score Girl, we jump into this penultimate week of anime. The Girl in Twilight kicked off the week with a wonderful reveal of a deeper relationship between two of its characters, which flourished into one of the most emotional fight scenes of the series. Hide your kids, hide your wife, because Tsurumi’s 7th division is coming for our heroes at Abashiri Prison as Golden Kamuy reaches its climax. We move on to cover the last episode of Run With the Wind that will air in 2018, with the show taking a long break before episode 12. Maybe they’re recovering from Haiji’s ridiculous practice regimen. Hype thrusters are engaged because we’ve finally reached the heavily anticipated imouto arc of Bunny Girl. We might be saying A Farewell to Dino in the penultimate episode of Banana Fish, which continues to rack up the body count with more gunfights, and more child abuse. Sakura forgot her zombie memories, and the writers forgot Yuugiri’s backstory in the latest episode of Zombie Land Saga. Then we move on to meet the honey nut Shirogane-O’s in the latest wild, crazy, and completely off-the-rails episode of Karakuri Circus. Finally, in the latest episode of Bloom Into You, Touko gets a rude awakening about the reality of her late older sister’s personality, that shakes her whole philosophy of how she should be living her life.Recorded December 27, 2018. Leo, Bcom and Kat are back this week to discuss week 10 of the Fall 2018 anime season. We kick it off with some nonsense, like Bcom watching a famous Japanese movie from 1983 about husky sled dogs surviving the treacherous landscape of Antarctica. Kat had to survive holiday parties, and a dairy awkward moment with her friend, and Leo had to survive his deepest dental appointment yet. We move on to anime, and Kat channels her inner Gordon Ramsay and lambasts Asuka for trying to make a chikuwa cake in The Girl in Twilight. We debate crushed vs. mashed potatoes in Golden Kamuy and Bcom can’t keep straight whether Anji Toni is blind or deaf. Leo laments Kana’s lost waifu status with her lax cooking skills, and also theorizes about the extraordinarily high number of people fainting in Japanese anime this season. In the latest episode of Rascal Sits While Girls Bathe, we argue about the necessity of the baller idol performance in the episode, and also figure out the perfect ending for the show. Banana Fish continues to use rape as a narrative crutch, while simultaneously getting incredibly cheesy with its drama. We’re all incensed that Yuugiri seems to have been snubbed in getting a backstory arc in Zombie Land Saga, in favor a frankly pretty boring setup episode for Sakura’s arc. Kat’s fury at a new character named Pantaloons in Karakuri Circus leads Bcom to a discovery of the Italian theatrical roots for the puppets’ naming scheme. We wrap up with Bloom Into You where a friend from Yuu’s past shows us how much Yuu’s outlook on life has changed since meeting Touko.Recorded December 20, 2018. Kat, Leo and Bcom are back this week to discuss week 9 of the Fall 2018 anime season. We start off with a nonsense section, in which we talked a lot about various video games we’re playing. Even Kat is playing games now! This week, the girls in twilight saw the truth of Seriouska’s world, and we got a not-so-unexpected reveal of the true identity of The King of Twilight. Kat observes that Golden Kamuy is now pandering to its yaoi fanbase, and the dick jokes have returned in the form of mushroom sight gags. Kat breaks down the latest episode of “As the Wind Turns,” which brought Leo to tears! Also, Kat finds yet another way to compare an anime to Naruto, calling Kakeru this show’s Sasuke. Kat is furious that the typical blonde-ass foreigner has been introduced to the Rascal’s ever-growing harem, but Bcom and Leo just can’t wait for him to have sex with his girlfriend in her sister’s body. Leo also feels a better harem show would focus on Mai’s father’s apparent golden idol touch. Banana Fish has gotten so convoluted that we can’t keep track of all the Harlem Chickens and Killer Bees, and just want it all to make sense. Leo loses his mind over his new Zombie Land waifu, Saki’s delinquent friend Reiko, as he loves a well-tamed shrew. All you need to know about Karakuri Circus is that it’s pronounced GUY, not GUY. Since that’s cleared up, we move onto the episode of Bloom Into You where it gets dangerously close to just being the next Citrus.Recorded December 13, 2018. Bcom, Kat, and Leo are back to cover week 8 of the Fall 2018 anime season! This episode Kat’s voice has been transformed by the power of medical vape and has entered the world of Twilight. Meanwhile, the actual Girls in Twilight get up to some very graceful upskirts and renaming themselves after Apple personal assistants. Meanwhile, Golden Kamuy goes full “bara” in a sea otter-fueled orgy worthy of the craziest shenanigans this show has seen. Prince acquires a treadmill to read manga while he runs in Run With the Wind, while Haiji continues to try to murder everyone with increasingly ridiculous running schedules. Sakuta has to find a way to solve two sides of the same girl’s emotional issues in this episode of Bunny Girl Senpai. Banana Fish has some issues with insensitive racial stereotyping, in an otherwise action-heavy episode. Zombie Land Saga gifts us with a fantastic episode, which proves once again that studio Mappa currently represents a shining beacon for good LGBT representation in an industry that typically struggles to depict such characters. Karakuri Circus goes full metal puppet this episode, and stretches the bounds of our disbelief in ways that start to worry us, as well as airport security everywhere. Finally, Leo explains the flower imagery of Bloom Into You’s latest episode with an explanation of the meaning of the various colors of hydrangeas in Japanese culture.Recorded December 6, 2018. Leo, Bcom, and Kat are back to cover week 7 of the Fall 2018 anime season! This episode Kat was a bit under the weather, but she powered through it to deliver your anime fix! We talked about the flaws of computer CD slot design and sneaky marketing tricks in the latest episode of The Girl in Twilight. Golden Kamuy gave us beary bad nightmares and fleshed out another of its side-characters with Ogata’s incredible backstory, which led us into a discussion of the psychology of psychopaths. We warned the listeners about the perils of listening to Evanescence as pre-game hype music in our section on Run With the Wind, where they finally run their first track meet, and Leo and Kat break down the mistakes in Kakeru’s race strategy. Sakuta’s expectations of our favorite Bunny Girl started to rub Kat the wrong way, and the explanations of the show’s physics phenomena are becoming even more ridiculous. Ash got under Dino’s skin in one of Banana Fish’s most explicit monologues to date. The decision to modernize the show, compared to the manga, has also led to some very awkward political commentary. Zombie Land Saga saved a bad C.G.I. dance performance with a shockingly funny twist. Karakuri Circus continued to set the bar for this season’s best animation with some excellent action scenes, but the characters began to get a bit too emo and overpowered for our taste. Finally, we picked up with the newest addition to our lineup, Bloom Into You, which kicked off the second half of its season by exploring Sayaka’s feelings, and introducing a new couple that can help guide her through the emotional turmoil she’s been enduring, even though their own relationship isn’t without its troubles. Leo thought it needed more karate chops.Recorded November 29, 2018. Kat, Leo and Bcom are here to break down week 6 of the Fall 2018 anime season and make midseason cuts! This week Doug & Kirill pisses off Bcom, which is something you should never do. The Girls in Beach Episode sets up Chloe’s arc, which tells you to stop playing mobile games and pursue true satisfaction. However, Bcom just pulled Ishtar in Fate Grand/Order, and knows gacha happiness is more gratifying than actual human empathy. Golden Kamuy gives us another great episode exploring Tanigaki’s past, which was almost too perfect. Kat then gives an incredibly long, but in depth review of how Run With the Wind’s cast convinces King to balance work with running, and live his life. Kat and Bcom reminisce about encouraging former partners to study via cosplay in their discussion of Bunny Girl Senpai. Ash has absolutely no chill on pulling the trigger to save Eiji in the latest episode of Banana Fish, and we discuss the existence of the Antarctic Mafia. Junko is having trouble adjusting to the modern idol landscape that has no modicum of privacy, but Leo thinks she should just take a swig of whiskey and power through. Finally, Karakuri Circus continues to get darker and darker, with a brutal episode full of horrors. Stick around for the final segment, where we discuss the state of the season, and cut any anime that are unworthy of continuing.Recorded November 21, 2018. Leo, Bcom, Kat return with their rundown of the fourth week of Fall 2018 anime! We learn that Doug is an asshole, and that the show’s animators put all of their effort into lip-licking with episode 4 of Doug and Kirill. That’s followed up by cowgirls in Twilight, with an episode set in America in the time of Ii Naosuke…which we’ll explain. Golden Kamuy introduces a very goofy version of a legendary Japanese weapons designer, who frontal-lobeless Tsurumi pushes to embrace his weapons of mass destruction. Leo was also inspired to become a gigolo. In Run With the Wind, we speculate on who Haiji means when he tells Kakeru he’s always running with someone, and Leo reminds us that Prince is now finally faster than a butterfly. Progress! We break down Bunny Girl’s latest loose philosophical physics explanation for adding another girl to MC-kun’s harem. It’s LaPlace’s Demon, but that’s not important. What is important is Haruhi Endless Eight is back! Then we pour one out for Barbara, a nurse who finally got what she wanted in Banana Fish. Leo and Kat are getting a little tired of Ai and Junko moping around and being generic idols rather than badass zombie idols. Finally, Karakuri Circus stretches the bounds of believability with the events of episode 4. Let’s just say they’ve got some explaining to do, moving forward. We close out the podcast with Kat laying down the law on Leo, which devolves into an argument over who is right and who is wrong, which doesn’t go well for anyone really, lol.Recorded November 8, 2018. Kat, Leo, and Bcom are back to cover the third week of Fall 2018 anime! We chat about Apple Bieber’s Harry Botoms in Double Decker. Then we move on to the hellscape that is avoiding terrible last names via marriage, and also crazed bloodthirsty rabbits from Monty Python with The Girl in Twilight. Golden Kamuy tries to go one episode without a million blatant dick jokes, so predictably Leo and Kat don’t love it. We reminisce about our own experiences with cringy confessions in response to Sakuta’s embarrassing moment in Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai. Kat’s cat confesses his love to Ash in our Banana Fish segment. We can’t blame him after Ash’s seductive candy bar song and dance. We attempt to justify some pretty lame looking C.G.I. dancing in Zombie Land Saga. Bcom, Leo, and Kat are here to bring you their thoughts on week 5 of the Fall 2018 anime season! This week we added a new section at the beginning of the podcast, because we felt we should embrace the nonsense a little more. Meanwhile, in the world of anime, Doug and Kirill learned that Dan Aykroyd hates it when you waste food. We discover more than we ever wanted to know about twin conventions in our discussion of The Girl in Twilight. We also have to come to terms with the reality of who would survive out of the three of us in a The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly style gunslinger showdown. Golden Kamuy taught us that peoples’ faces are finger lickin’ good and that Han Solo learned his best tricks for avoiding hypothermia from turn of the century Japanese soldiers. Run With the Wind prompted us to discuss work-life balance as well as the relative freedom of dogs and humans, among other philosophical questions. Yeah, it’s not just your average sports show. We discuss whether screaming out “I’m NOT a VIRGIN,” is the most effective way to defend the honor of your fake girlfriend in Bunny Girl Senpai. A whole bunch of characters get Banana Fished in Banana Fish, but we’re way more interested in the spicy mustard on Eiji’s wiener. Zombieland Saga advertises drive-in chicken to us for 24 minutes, but it’s so damn funny we don’t really mind, because it was a nice bird. Finally, we end with an episode of Haven’t You Heard?, I’m Shirogane, as Karakuri Circus takes its characters back to high school.Recorded November 19, 2018. Bcom, Kat, and Leo are back to finish off the second half of our Fall 2018 season impressions and choose the anime we’ll be following this season! We kick it off with anime about girls whose fascination with dolls goes way, way too far, before moving onto some pretty decent sports anime that no one is watching. Then we get into anime about girls whose personalities we don’t quite understand, before moving into two long running shows that we totally didn’t catch up on. Then it’s time to experience two weird high schools before moving on to two anime that start with “RE.” We finish off with some shounen anime about discrimination, chopping trees, thicc thighs, and genocide! Wooo!! If you make it that far, you will get to hear us break down our new review format, and the exciting news that we’re returning to weekly releases! Finally, we each list off our top 10 favorites of the season before moving on to our consensus picks and individual locks. As a sidenote, Leo is in no physical danger, especially if he stops bringing up Planet With. He's fine. We promise.Recorded November 2, 2018. Timestamps:3:22 - UzaMaid! Leo, Bcom, and Kat are back, and what’s that…the leaves are changing, the air is crisp, and the scent of warm pumpkin pie is wafting through your window. That’s right, it’s time for the Fall 2018 anime season to begin! Tune in as we break down the first half of our Fall impressions. This season is filled with all sorts of characters, from girly-faced cops, to drooling wizards, cheery cheerleaders, and bishi archers. Girls find themselves in other worlds by tuning to the right radio station, slimes eat dragons and lead goblins, and college aged boys get tricked into running with the wind. Sometimes you have to conceive children without having sex, or build fish tanks in space, or even help out a girl who can’t stop cosplaying as a bunny. Maybe your sister needs you to pretend to write her light novels, or Satan’s second-in-command is addicted to fluffiness. The Banana Fish boys re-enact West Side Story, while some zombie girls are thrust into the idol spotlight. Bakumatsu rewrites Japanese history, and a girl in a bottle hurts Bcom’s ears. It’s all one big Karakuri Circus, and we’re not sure who’s holding the puppet strings. Join us as we try to make sense of it all!Recorded October 24, 2018. Timestamps:2:17 - Double Decker! Leo, Kat, and Bcom return to wrap up the Summer 2018 anime season and dole out their final thoughts and scores for the shows they followed. For Angolmois, Kat breaks down the anime girl hierarchy for Bcom, explaining that “the hot useless girl comes first.” The final episode of Sirius the Jaeger reveals that the true power of the Ark was to contain the power of John Travolta’s sparkly disco hot pants from destroying humanity as we know it. No…seriously. During the Banana Fish review, Leo’s roommate Bob makes a surprise solo debut with his take on “Can You Feel the Love Tonight,” which leaves us all speechless. Bcom and Leo disagree on their expectations vs. reality with the outcome of the final match of Harukana Receive. Happy Sugar Life goes fully off the rails in its final two episodes, losing Kat and Bcom, who were still kind of fans up to this point, but our review is slightly derailed by Leo insisting (correctly) that Bcom and Kat are both wrong about where the final scenes are taking place. Yes, they were on the roof. Revue Starlight breaks the fourth wall to tell us we were the giraffe all along, while Leo and Kat sit back and roll their eyes. As usual, Kat’s cat LOVES Revue Starlight and makes his opinions known. Kat learns why losing a lot of blood is bad for you in the final few episodes of Cells at Work! Kat also breaks down all of her thoughts on hair-pulling, bra patterns, and the necessity of consistent makeup practices while we laugh our way through the final two episodes of Asobi Asobase. Planet With delivers a profound message as it closes out its run, and one that Bcom feels is poignant in our current divided political climate. Attack on Titan ends its “mid-season” well, but pulls the rug out from under us and tells us we have to wait until April 2019 before they continue their split-cour season. At least it’s better than waiting years. We gave a few final thoughts on shows we followed outside of the podcast, before we finally moved onto our conclusions and scores for each of the shows we watched this season. We hope you all enjoyed analyzing the Summer season along with us, and we’ll see you in Fall!Recorded October 11th and 15th, 2018.Timestamps:1:45 - Angolmois (Eps. 11-12) 24:25 - Sirius the Jaeger (Eps. 11-12)41:38 - Banana Fish (Eps. 11-12)1:08:29 - Harukana Receive (Eps. 11-12)1:22:59 - Happy Sugar Life (Eps. 11-12)1:47:36 - Commercial Break1:50:32 - Revue Starlight (Eps. 11-12)2:04:31 - Cells at Work! Bcom, Leo and Kat are back to talk about the 9th and 10th weeks of the Summer 2018 anime season. We have fun discussing Angolmois even though Amazon Instant Video is making us play a game of Fastest Finger First to avoid skipping the ED. Sirius the Jaeger brought us zombie vampire flame throwing knights, but then threw them away as fast as they appeared. Leo decides that Banana Fish is getting too serious to make jokes about…and then we proceed to do nothing but joke about it. Harukana Receive gears up for its fairly predictable, but still exciting final few episodes. Happy Sugar Life gets less artsy, and more fartsy. Leo says “non, non Banana” to Revue Starlight, but Bcom loved some of the fantastic animation cuts in episode 9. Kat is disgusted by the snot-filled onsen inside of her nose, as depicted by Cells at Work. Kat also can’t eat grapes anymore. This anime is really ruining her life. Asobi Asobase cracks us up with a robot literally designed from Kat’s speech patterns and an otaku apparently designed based on Bcom’s appearance (according to Leo). Opinions on Planet With continue to be split, but it can’t be denied that the show still seems to be building towards a strong conclusion. And in Attack on Titan, we might have actually seen the end of whiny, useless Eren?Recorded October 4th and 7th, 2018.Timestamps:1:59 - Angolmois (Eps. 9-10) 22:27 - Sirius the Jaeger (Eps. 9-10)36:51 - Banana Fish (Eps. 9-10)56:37 - Harukana Receive (Eps. 9-10)1:08:22 - Happy Sugar Life (Eps. 9-10)1:35:03 - Commercial Break1:39:51 - Revue Starlight (Eps. 9-10)1:56:48 - Cells at Work! Kat, Leo, and Bcom return to discuss weeks 7 and 8 of the Summer 2018 anime season. This episode we picked up two new shows, Angolmois and Happy Sugar Life, as a result of our midseason cuts. We recap the events leading up to the current showdown in Angolmois and discuss Teruhi’s creepy Kuchii kisses. While talking about Sirius the Jaeger, we predict the existence of a show called Re:Sirius within the next year, and then decry the demise of eBay in Banana Fish. Leo wants 3D idols to get out of Harukana Receive, and Bcom expounds on why Happy Sugar Life’s take on pedophilia is actually somewhat more tolerable than most other anime, while Kat breaks down why the show’s insane cast is fascinating to watch. Bcom wants Leo to experience Revue Starlight over and over again, just like Daiba Nana, but he isn’t having it. Cells at Work asks the audience to care about the plight of poor little cancer cells, and it doesn’t quite work. Luckily, Asobi Asobase was so friggin’ funny these two weeks that we could barely contain our laughter as we recounted its various ingenious skits. Planet With continues to keep things real serious with some quotes that made us think about the nature of humanity. We close out the episode with Kat and Leo taking turns just straight ripping into Eren for, yet again, being a whiny crybaby in two otherwise pretty great episodes of Attack on Titan.Recorded September 25, 2018.Timestamps:2:32 - Angolmois (Eps. 7-8) 19:17 - Sirius the Jaeger (Eps. 7-8)37:23 - Banana Fish (Eps. 7-8)51:29 - Harukana Receive (Eps. 7-8)1:02:29 - Happy Sugar Life (Eps. 7-8)1:29:31 - Commercial Break1:32:54 - Revue Starlight (Eps. 7-8)1:46:24 - Cells at Work! Bcom, Leo, and Kat and here to make some midseason cuts this Summer 2018 season because some shows majorly let us down. Luckily, there are some replacement-worthy anime to look forward to! Our discussion about Free! got us sidetracked into a bet about who would better survive the world’s hottest curry in New York City, Kat or Bcom. Spoiler alert: Bcom would die. Kat was shocked by Ryouko’s take-charge attitude in Sirius the Jaeger. Leo details all of the similarities between Akira Tachibana from After the Rain and Eiji from Banana Fish, which is very enlightening. Luckily, we are saved from Ash’s hardcore child abuse by a few episodes of Harukana Receive that shake the moe richter scale, while still managing to get us hype for volleyball. Revue Starlight gave us more background on Mahiru, and resolved the partnership between Kaoruko and Futaba, which gives us yet another power couple who may eventually face off against Karen and Hikari. Cells at Work! likened allergies to the apocalypse, which is a metaphor we think anyone with seasonal allergies can wholeheartedly agree with. Asobi Asobase shows us the dangers of spinning your pen, the wonders of android boyfriends, and “French kisses,” interspersed with amazing stories of Kat’s trysts with engineers in the bedroom. Planet With shows us how justice is nothing compared to the power of clogs in the right hands, with a midseason arc finale that gets us really excited for the future of the series. We Rent Tsukumogami continued to make us happy that we only rented it, and didn’t buy. And, finally, Attack on Titan continues to pull back the curtains on the epic backstory of the various bloodlines who vie for power in the capital. All in all, I think this episode of the podcast was a coup! Also, here’s that gif from Free! that Kat was talking about: https://gfycat.com/GrizzledFavoriteFishingcatRecorded September 3, 2018.Timestamps:3:46 - Free! -Dive to the Future- (Eps. 5-6) 25:39 - Sirius the Jaeger (Eps. 5-6)39:13 - Banana Fish (Eps. 5-6)1:05:40 - Harukana Receive (Eps. 5-6)1:16:57 - Revue Starlight (Eps. 5-6)1:29:59 - Commercial Break1:32:57 - Cells at Work! Bcom, Leo, and Kat return to break down Summer 2018’s 3rd and 4th weeks of anime! Kat explains how Yuliy and Mikhail in Sirius the Jaeger can sense the Ark like those “rods you take on the beach that beep and shit.” Leo determines the relative sexiness of swimsuits in Harukana Receive. We learned that Karen from Revue Starlight can run around Tokyo for hours and still be perfectly fine because of the power of friendship. The Asobi Asobase girls play the same game from an episode of Doreiku, which triggers unwanted flashbacks in Bcom’s memory that are only made worse by the smell of Olivia’s filthy armpits. Planet With now has cats and dogs scheming together, total chaos! Also, listen closely for various special guest appearances by the podcasts’ very own cats. Bcom, Leo, and Kat finish up the second half of Summer 2018’s first impressions with weekly shows airing from Friday to Sunday. We attempt to understand metaphorical giraffes in Revue Starlight and Leo gives us a full medical diagnosis of what makes Cells at Work! one of the best ways to learn about the human body. Meanwhile we can’t stop laughing at Asobi Asobase’s brilliant comedic direction. Finally, we take sides on the intergalactic dog vs. cat conflict in Planet With before finishing up with a breakdown of the first two episodes of what is looking to be an excellent new season of Attack on Titan. Bcom, Leo, and Kat are back to wrap-up the end of the Spring 2018 anime season. We start off by covering the final episode of Megalo Box, which didn’t fully land its punches. Then, we transition into a marathon segment where we absolutely lose our minds describing the final two episodes of Gurren Laga…I mean, Darling in The FranXX. It was worth covering all 24 episodes just for this final segment! Afterwards, we detail a few notable anime we watched on the side, and then plunge into our final scores and remarks on each of the 10 shows we followed this season. Thank you for sticking with us for another season of anime, and we will see you on the beach this Summer!Recorded July 14, 2018.Timestamps:Final episode reviews:4:15 - Megalo Box (Ep. 13)22:07 - Darling in the FranXX (Eps. 23-24)1:10:55 - Other anime we watched:1:11:14 - Food Wars season 3 – cour 21:12:48 - Kakuriyo no Yadomeshi1:13:39 - Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online1:15:47 - Major 2nd1:18:04 - Umamusume: Pretty Derby1:20:43 - Gurazeni1:22:04 - FINAL SCORES:1:22:12 - Golden Kamuy1:25:38 - Legend of the Galactic Heroes: Die Neue These1:29:00 - Yotsuiro Biyori1:33:54 - Steins;Gate 01:37:12 - Doreiku (a.k.a. “Slave District”)1:42:41 - Hisone to Masotan1:46:28 - Megalo Box1:49:45 - Wotakoi: Love is Hard for Otaku1:55:13 - Hinamatsuri1:58:03 - Darling in the FranXXTwitter: https://twitter.com/NerdomandOtheriTunes: https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/nerdom-and-other-nonsense/id1203061952Google Play: https://play.google.com/music/m/Iuqfigskscnxqhhatxmfyrec7gi?t=Nerdom_and_Other_NonsenseStitcher: https://www.stitcher.com/podcast/nerdomandothernonsense/nerdom-and-other-nonsense-anime-podcast
Bcom, Leo, and Kat return to discuss weeks 11 and 12 of the Spring 2018 anime season. Almost all of the shows we were watching wrapped up this week, besides Megalo Box and Darling in the FranXX, so we’re here to give our initial thoughts on all of the finales. Golden Kamuy decided to finish off its season by giving Asirpa a lecture about gentlemanly dicks and announcing a season 2 slated for October. Galactic Heroes finished in the middle of one of its greatest battles, which left us craving the upcoming three movies. Yotsuiro Biyori came to a tasteful, and tasty end, which left us theorizing a bit about the nature of the two brothers’ relationship. Steins;Gate 0 continued its slow burn of soap opera level mystery, and Doreiku, mercifully wrapped up in a “happy” ending for all of its slaves. Girls and dragons live happily ever after in Hisone to Masotan and Gearless Joe gears up again for his second-to-last fight. Wotakoi is another in a long string of romcoms that goes nowhere and says nothing about its main couples, which left us predictably disappointed. Hinamatsuri was one of the best shows of the season, and stayed consistently hilarious right to the kick-ass kung-fu street fighting ending. Bcom, Leo, and Kat are back to preview the Summer 2018 anime season that has just kicked off. This time, we have the delightful and hilarious Mandi from the Anime Addicts Anonymous Podcast on the show to help us get hype for shark-toothed boys and high score girls! Mercifully, this season Japan has decided to, ya know, maybe not broadcast every single anime at the same time like they did this Spring. That being said, there are still a few sexy sequels returning, and a few promising productions starting anew. Stay tuned for the predictions section at the end of our previews for a fun runback of our Spring predictions, and our new predictions for Summer.Recorded June 29, 2018.Timestamps:3:56 – Attack on Titan season 37:09 – Overlord III9:35 – FLCL Progressive11:15 – Angels of Death18:03 – How NOT to Summon a Demon Lord21:46 – Free!: Dive to the Future (season 3)24:27 – Yuuna and the Haunted Hot Springs28:33 – Grand Blue32:12 – Tenrou: Sirius the Jaeger35:14 – Island38:38 – Gintama: Shirogane no Tamashii-hen 240:03 – The Master of Ragnarok & Blesser of Einherjar43:00 – Banana Fish47:03 – Back Street Girls: Gokudolls50:45 – Shichisei no Subaru52:43 – Chio’s School Road54:55 – Happy Sugar Life58:12 – High Score Girl1:01:42 – Harukana Receive1:05:06 – Hanebado!1:09:41 – Jashin-chan Dropkick1:11:32 – Cells at Work!1:15:10 – Miss Caretaker of Sunohara-sou1:17:57 – Mr. Tanegawa1:20:23 – One Room 2nd Season1:23:32 – Kyoto Teramachi Sanjou no Holmes1:25:41 – Muhyo & Roji’s Bureau of Supernatural Investigations1:28:46 – Lord of Vermillion: Guren no Ou1:31:27 – Angolmois: Genkou Kassenki1:33:22 – Asobi Asobase1:34:56 – Phantom in the Twilight1:36:42 – Yama no Susume: Third Season1:38:00 – Shoujo☆Kageki Revue Starlight1:39:49 – 100 Sleeping Princes and the Kingdom of Dreams1:40:51 – Senjuushi: The Thousand Noble Musketeers1:41:53 – Ani ni Tsukeru Kusuri wa Nai! 21:42:15 – Tsukumogami Kashimasu1:43:31 – PREDICTIONS!Twitter: https://twitter.com/NerdomandOtheriTunes: https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/nerdom-and-other-nonsense/id1203061952?mt=2Google Play: https://play.google.com/music/m/Iuqfigskscnxqhhatxmfyrec7gi?t=Nerdom_and_Other_Nonsense
Bcom, Leo, and Kat are back to discuss weeks 9 and 10 of the Spring 2018 anime season. This week is pretty laid back. It’s all about giving people massages, finding true love, and letting bayonets come inside your perverted little hearts. A highlight of this week’s podcast were two Special Episodes we covered, for Legend of the Galactic Heroes and Darling in the FranXX, which were both very much worth watching, but for entirely different reasons. Golden Kamuy continues to be obsessed with Gleaming Boners, but only slightly more than Steins;Gate 0 was obsessed with fondling Moeka’s breasts, to distract from how sad Rintarou is. Bcom made quite a discovery about the staff behind Yotsuiro Biyori (which he probably should’ve figured out long ago). Kat and Leo voiced some small concerns about Doreiku’s direction, but are still happy to see Hisone licking her way to love in all the right places. Wotakoi could probably borrow some of that licking action from Masotan and improve their show drastically, but one thing’s for sure, no one licks like your friendly neighborhood Klaxo Sapiens. Loli dinosaurs age like a fine wine it turns out. “She’s actually 2 billion years old!” sayeth the otaku lolicon. Speaking of lolis, Hinamatsuri has a mom you should meet, but don’t fret, because she’s hilarious. If you’re frustrated with the terrible jokes in this description, you can take out your frustration by just punching Joe about 1,000 times in the face because he’ll just keep getting back up anyway.Recorded June 25, 2018.Timestamps:2:13 - Golden Kamuy (Eps. 9-10)21:58 - Legend of the Galactic Heroes: Die Neue These (Eps. Kat, Leo, and Bcom return to discuss weeks 7 and 8 of the Spring 2018 anime season. This week is all about boners of all kinds. Whether it be the various murder boners that Golden Kamuy seems to love, or Reinhard's boner for Kircheis in Legend of the Galactic Heroes. Or maybe it's Bcom's boner for young Gure in Yotsuiro Biyori or Dr. Frank's boner for the Klaxosaur Princess. Or perhaps its Julia’s boner for a 12-year-old boy in Doreiku or Hanako’s boner for shipping her boyfriend in her yaoi Wotakoi fantasies. One thing's for sure, nothing tops our collective boner for Megalo Box's continued dominance of the season, and there's just really no need for enhancement pills when you have anime to...ahem, inspire you! It's time to jump in because this episode of our podcast is fully erect.Recorded June 9, 2018.Timestamps:5:14 - Golden Kamuy (Eps. 7-8)18:12 - Legend of the Galactic Heroes: Die Neue These (Eps. 7-8)46:45 - Yotsuiro Biyori (Eps. 7-8)1:05:02 - Steins;Gate 0 (Eps. 7-8)1:23:47 - Doreiku (a.k.a. “Slave District”) (Eps. 7-8)1:34:10 - Commercial Break!1:38:15 - Hisone to Masotan (Eps. 7-8)1:59:54 - Megalo Box (Eps. 7-8)2:13:16 - Wotakoi: Love is Hard for Otaku (Eps. 7-8)2:30:00 - Hinamatsuri (Eps. 7-8)2:48:19 - Darling in the FranXX (Eps. 18-19)Twitter: https://twitter.com/NerdomandOtheriTunes: https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/nerdom-and-other-nonsense/id1203061952?mt=2Google Play: https://play.google.com/music/m/Iuqfigskscnxqhhatxmfyrec7gi?t=Nerdom_and_Other_Nonsense
May 2018 has come and gone. With E3 2018 around the corner, there is a lot to discuss. Bcom from the Nerdom and Other Nonsense podcast joins Drew and JD for this super fun and frantic episode (0-17). With trailer and conference reveals of arguably the two most anticipated casual audience games on the market, we must discuss Black Ops 4 and Battlefield 5. Drew knows the ins-and-outs of many details surrounding BO4 (17-42) and then we dive into what Dice is doing with this new Battlefield rendition (42-57). From there, the three of us make and discuss our hopes and expectations surrounding most of the conferences at the upcoming 2018 E3: Nintendo (57-1:10), Sony (1:10-1:19), XBOX (1:19-1:36), 3rd Party (1:36-1:52). Lastly, Bcom and JD discuss 4 games that were released in May: Agony, State of Decay 2, Bloodstained Curse of the Moon, and a deeper discussion over the Playstation exclusive Detroit Become Human (1:53-end). In this episode, Andrew talks about his trip down to New York City to visit his good friend Bcom from the Nerdom and Other Nonsense Anime podcast. Bcom also talks about anime that were formative to him. Before all that fun stuff, they discuss Pokemon Go and their legal battles, Super Robot Wars, silly and not so silly merchandise that we purchased and some super sentai silliness amongst other affairs. We also discuss Andrew's first baseball game and recommend a few good baseball anime. We even throw in a mini-review of Solo: A Star Wars Story for fun. It's a silly, yet informative episode...Enjoy! Bcom, Kat and Leo are back to discuss weeks 5 and 6 of the Spring 2018 anime season. It’s midseason, and that means it’s time for midseason cuts, so stick around for that discussion right at the end of the podcast, because it’s a very interesting one. Otherwise, these two weeks of anime had some interesting twists and turns, with Mahou Shoujo Ore in particular leaving Bcom and Leo asking Mahou Shoujo “¿Por qué?“ Golden Kamuy got a hard-on for hunting wolves, while Yotsuiro Biyori showed us its lady boner (kind of) for its pretty boys and also exposed picky eaters for the hypocrites they are. Steins;Gate 0 threw on some crocs and socks for its worst cosplay yet, and Doreiku showed us that dogs can have feelings about slavery too. The Dragon Pilots spent some time with Wilson from Cast Away, and we hope they get home in time to delivery that FedEx package. Megalo Box focused on an intensely interesting military veteran who Kat wishes was actually the main character of the series, and Wotakoi prompted us to discuss that awkward moment when your nerdy friend is “cheating” on her boyfriend, and how to handle it. Finally, Hinamatsuri explored the underground marketplace of LCD TV resales, and Darling in the FranXX began to finally reveal its true message regarding gender and reproduction, and it’s straight out of the 1950s, so buckle up for that.Recorded May 23, 2018.Timestamps:4:00 - Mahou Shoujo Ore (Eps. 5-6)20:06 - Golden Kamuy (Eps. 5-6)34:58 - Yotsuiro Biyori (Eps. 5-6)54:01 - Steins;Gate 0 (Eps. 5-6)1:11:40 - Doreiku (a.k.a. “Slave District”) (Eps. 5-6)1:42:52 - Hisone to Masotan (Eps. 5-6)1:57:27 - Megalo Box (Eps. 5-6)2:13:50 - Wotakoi: Love is Hard for Otaku (Eps. 5-6)2:29:08 - Hinamatsuri (Eps. 5-6)2:43:05 - Darling in the FranXX (Eps. 16-17)3:02:43 - Midseason Cuts discussionTwitter: https://twitter.com/NerdomandOtheriTunes: https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/nerdom-and-other-nonsense/id1203061952?mt=2Google Play: https://play.google.com/music/m/Iuqfigskscnxqhhatxmfyrec7gi?t=Nerdom_and_Other_Nonsense
Bcom, Kat and Leo return with reviews of weeks 3 and 4 of the Spring 2018 anime season for the 10 shows we chose to follow in our seasonal first impressions episode. This episode clocked in a bit longer than we expected, at just under 3 hours, because we dove deep into these shows looking to give you the best rundowns and insights possible. Honestly though, it’s really because we spent like 25 minutes on Doreiku. I don’t think there’s ever been a show covered by this podcast which the hosts disagreed on more strongly. Neither Busou Shoujo Machiavellianism nor Tsuki ga Kirei drove hosts to this kind of madness. Leo literally put on Rintarou’s labcoat from Steins;Gate and did mad scientist experiments to establish new theories to explain why Doreiku is actually just a grand social experiment. If the Doreiku conversation was a little too intense for you, stick around, because we took a break afterwards, and returned to discuss several of the most entertaining shows of the season in the second half of the episode. Seriously, do not underestimate the power of Hinamatsuri and Wotakoi to put a smile on your face!Recorded May 10th & 14th, 2018.Timestamps:3:09 - Mahou Shoujo Ore (Eps. 3-4)20:34 - Golden Kamuy (Eps. 3-4)35:57 - Yotsuiro Biyori (Eps. 3-4)54:32 - Steins;Gate 0 (Eps. 3-4)1:14:20 - Doreiku (a.k.a. “Slave District”) (Eps. 3-4)1:39:52 - Hisone to Masotan (Eps. 3-4)1:53:14 - Megalo Box (Eps. 3-4)2:09:11 - Wotakoi: Love is Hard for Otaku (Eps. 3-4)2:25:30 - Hinamatsuri (Eps. 3-4)2:42:30 - Darling in the FranXX (Ep. 15 and SP Recap)Twitter: https://twitter.com/NerdomandOtheriTunes: https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/nerdom-and-other-nonsense/id1203061952?mt=2Google Play: https://play.google.com/music/m/Iuqfigskscnxqhhatxmfyrec7gi?t=Nerdom_and_Other_Nonsense
Bcom, Kat and Leo are back with the final half of their Spring 2018 anime season impressions. Things got pretty heated this episode at times, but not between the hosts themselves. There are just some anime that really bring out the ire of our hosts, and press all of our buttons. It seemed like almost all of those anime were in this second half of our impressions. Whether it was Doreiku and Magical Girl Site for Bcom, Hisone to Masotan and Comic Girls for Kat, or Devil’s Line and Bcom constantly editing the Google doc to annoy Leo, we all had to blow off some steam this episode. But that’s ok, because we made it through, and finally chose the top 10 anime that we’ll be covering this season…even if one of those choices left Bcom literally speechless…Recorded April 29, 2018.Timestamps:1:45 – Doreiku: The Animation (a.k.a “Slave District” or “23 Slaves and Me”) (Eps. 1-2)23:29 - Tada Never Falls in Love (Eps. 1-2)30:07 - Dances with the Dragons (Eps. 1-2)34:25 - Hisone to Masotan (Eps. 1-2)46:28 - Megalo Box (Eps. 1-3)56:00 - Comic Girls (Eps. 1-2)1:03:43 - Isekai Izakaya (Eps. 1-2)1:07:47 - Wotakoi: Love is Hard for Otaku (Eps. 1-3)1:16:00 - Full Metal Panic! Bcom, Kat and Leo, against all odds, have survived the first few weeks of the Spring 2018 anime apocalypse and come crawling back from their computer screens with LCD sunburn emblazoned across their faces, to report on the best, and worst, shows of the season. This cast is broken up into two parts because Japan decided to put ALL of the anime out at once, to, ya know…see what happens. Thank you Japan! Once again, you have given us so much…honestly too much, and we need you to stop because this relationship is becoming abusive. Anime fans can’t be expected to watch 50 anime in a season, but you can always expect us to do it for you to give you our honest opinions on what’s truly worthwhile. Bcom, Kat and Leo are back with the 2nd part of the Winter 2018 season wrap-up. In this episode, we get into an intense debate over the ending of After the Rain. Bcom and Leo take solace in the fact that Kat was super-wrong about something in Laid-Back Camp. Kat and Leo are craving more Ramens, but Bcom’s not so sure. Ito Junji concludes with two absurdist comedy episodes with a special appearance by the Kool-Aid man. The first half of Darling in the FranXX closes with an intriguing cliffhanger about Zero Two’s backstory. And of course, Bcom punishes everyone with one last installment of the CiTRASH update. Finally, we end the show by giving out our final scores for this season’s top shows, in an in-depth segment where we get deep into our feelings on all eleven shows we followed this season.Recorded April 14, 2018.Timestamps:0:53 - After the Rain (Eps. 11-12)24:23 - Laid-Back Camp (Eps. 11-12)45:09 - Hakata Tonkotsu Ramens (Eps. 11-12)57:56 - Ito Junji Collection (Eps. 11-12)1:14:22 - Darling in the FranXX (Eps. 11-12)1:31:24 - Citrus (Eps. 11-12)1:37:37 - Final Scores and Discussion for Winter 2018Twitter: https://twitter.com/NerdomandOtherWebsite: https://nerdomandothernonsense.blogspot.com/ iTunes: https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/nerdom-and-other-nonsense/id1203061952?mt=2 Google Play: https://play.google.com/music/m/Iuqfigskscnxqhhatxmfyrec7gi?t=Nerdom_and_Other_Nonsense
Bcom, Kat, and Leo are back to wrap up the end of the Winter 2018 anime season! We went really long with this episode, so we’ve split it into two parts. In this first half, we detail how horny Kokkoku’s staff are for Juri and Shouko, even until the bitter end. The Mitsuboshi Colors cracked us up for two more fun-filled final episodes. Mercifully, Skilled Teaser Takagi-san ended…finally, though Kat still has some choice words for its conclusion. Then we get into the final three fantastic episodes of A Place Further than the Universe, and how Bcom cried so much he couldn’t even jot down accurate notes through his blurred vision. We finish out this first part of the podcast with a lengthy rundown of the final three episodes of Violet Evergarden, along with a light novel spoiler section to attempt to answer a few lingering questions that have irked the cast throughout the entire series.Recorded April 8, 2018.Timestamps:2:32 - Kokkoku (Eps. 11-12)27:34 - Mitsuboshi Colors (Eps. 11-12)40:01 - Skilled Teaser Takagi-san (Eps. 11-12)50:56 - A Place Further than the Universe (Eps. 11-13)1:26:18 - Violet Evergarden (Eps. 11-13)2:05:25 - Violet Evergarden Light Novel spoilers sectionTwitter: https://twitter.com/NerdomandOtherWebsite: https://nerdomandothernonsense.blogspot.com/iTunes: https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/nerdom-and-other-nonsense/id1203061952?mt=2Google Play: https://play.google.com/music/m/Iuqfigskscnxqhhatxmfyrec7gi?t=Nerdom_and_Other_Nonsense
Bcom, Kat, and Leo return to discuss weeks 9 and 10 of the Winter 2018 anime season. As most of these shows are entering their final arcs, we discuss how we laughed, or cried, or recoiled in disgust at Junji Ito’s greasy, grimey goings-on. While some shows stumbled a bit, like Kokkoku and Skilled Teaser Takagi-san, others really took off like Sora Yori and Violet Evergarden. In fact, episode 9 of Violet Evergarden literally left Kat and Leo speechless… Come hang out with us while we make our final predictions going into the final episodes in the next couple of weeks!Recorded March 25, 2018.Timestamps:3:44 - Kokkoku (Eps. 9 & 10)25:00 - Mitsuboshi Colors (Eps. 9 & 10)38:43 - Skilled Teaser Takagi-san (Eps. 9 & 10)46:15 - A Place Further than the Universe (Eps. 9 & 10)1:03:37 - Violet Evergarden (Eps. 9 & 10)1:17:26 - After the Rain (Eps. 9 & 10)1:26:26 – Kat’s Theory about Bcom1:42:06 - Yuru Camp (Eps. 9 & 10)1:59:28 - Hakata Tonkotsu Ramens (Eps. 9 & 10)2:09:05 - Ito Junji: Collection (Eps. 9 & 10)2:25:37 - Darling in the FranXX (Eps. 9 & 10)2:41:22 - CiTRASH Update (Eps. 9 & 10)Twitter: https://twitter.com/NerdomandOtherWebsite: https://nerdomandothernonsense.blogspot.com/ iTunes: https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/nerdom-and-other-nonsense/id1203061952?mt=2 Google Play: https://play.google.com/music/m/Iuqfigskscnxqhhatxmfyrec7gi?t=Nerdom_and_Other_Nonsense
This week Bcom, Kat and Leo weather the typhoon of the Winter 2018 anime season's 7th and 8th week of shows. It's raining plot as we wade deep into the Winter season. We decide to open our umbrellas and get wet...in Darling in the FranXX's beach episode. Just kidding, After the Rain and Skilled Teaser Takagi-san both featured typhoons in their episodes. The Sora Yori girls decide to overcome their seasickness in some ice cold storm surges on their boatride to Antarctica. We also take a deep dive into our privacy-less future in the Ito Junji: Collection, and learn why you should never go to the circus. Mitsuboshi Colors, on the other hand, makes fun of shows that throw their little girls in baths for ratings, and Kokkoku decides to add the Incredible Hulk to its cast. We finish off with the Ramens teaching us how to hack the new girl from Citrus' phone, to get her middle-school aged nudez. Oooooh, Citrus. Never change.Recorded March 15, 2018.Timestamps:2:17 - Crunchyroll Awards Discussion8:31 - Kokkoku (Eps. 7 & 8)29:05 - Mitsuboshi Colors (Eps. 7 & 8)46:01 - Skilled Teaser Takagi-san (Eps. 7 & 8)58:33 - A Place Further than the Universe (Eps. 7 & 8)1:08:54 - Violet Evergarden (Eps. 7 & 8)1:18:11 - After the Rain (Eps. 7 & 8)1:35:46 - Yuru Camp (Eps. 7 & 8)1:47:09 - Hakata Tonkotsu Ramens (Eps. 7 & 8)1:54:37 - Ito Junji: Collection (Eps. 7 & 8)2:08:47 - Darling in the FranXX (Eps. 7 & 8)2:27:28 - CiTRASH Update (Eps. 7 & 8)Twitter: https://twitter.com/NerdomandOtherWebsite: https://nerdomandothernonsense.blogspot.com/ iTunes: https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/nerdom-and-other-nonsense/id1203061952?mt=2 Google Play: https://play.google.com/music/m/Iuqfigskscnxqhhatxmfyrec7gi?t=Nerdom_and_Other_Nonsense
Craft Beers, Poker and Other Nonsense
Kat, Leo and Bcom return for the 41st episode of the podcast, and discuss weeks 5 and 6 of the Winter 2018 anime season. This week, they face their biggest challenge yet...trying to understand what the hell was happening in Record of Grancrest War. Leo and Bcom have a fiercer argument over the quality of a dance scene than the judges of Dancing With the Stars ever have. Kat assures us that the Linba ship is alive and well in Hakata Tonkotsu Ramens, but Leo is still frustrated by the idiotic decision to play Lin at short stop. Bcom is excited that Hiro has finally stuck his FranXX in his Darling and it somehow gave him Red Bull wings. And as usual, the #quality block of shows collectively known as The Place Further than the Evergarden After the Rain, continues to knock it out of the park.Recorded February 26, 2018.Timestamps:2:12 - Kokkoku (Eps. 5-6)19:17 - Mitsuboshi Colors (Eps. 5-6)31:59 - Skilled Teaser Takagi-san (Eps. 5-6)45:01 - A Place Further than the Universe (Eps. 5-6)1:08:57 - Violet Evergarden (Eps. 5-6)1:23:10 - After the Rain (Eps. 5-6)1:37:37 - Laid-Back Camp (Eps. 5-6)1:48:08 - Hakata Tonkotsu Ramens (Eps. 5-6)1:58:57 - Record of Grancrest War (Eps. 5-6)2:13:07 - Darling in the FranXX (Eps. 5-6)2:28:48 - CiTRASH update (Eps. 5-6)2:34:24 - Midseason Drops/Pick-UpsTwitter: https://twitter.com/NerdomandOtherWebsite: https://nerdomandothernonsense.blogspot.com/ iTunes: https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/nerdom-and-other-nonsense/id1203061952?mt=2 Google Play: https://play.google.com/music/m/Iuqfigskscnxqhhatxmfyrec7gi?t=Nerdom_and_Other_Nonsense

Bcom and Leo are back for the 40th episode of the podcast, presumably to talk about weeks 3 and 4 of the Winter 2018 anime season. But, Leo’s stray cat giving birth to a litter of kittens seems to have resulted in an anime-loving catgirl joining the cast? I’m not going to ask questions about this, and just assume that the Anime Gods are real and have granted all of our wishes.Recorded February 14, 2018.Timestamps:4:20 - Kokkoku (Eps. 3-4)18:08 - Mitsuboshi Colors (Eps. 3-4)26:41 - Skilled Teaser Takagi-san (Eps. 3-4)36:10 - A Place Further than the Universe (Eps. 3-4)49:06 - Violet Evergarden (Eps. 3-4)59:25 - After the Rain (Eps. 3-4)1:17:51 - Laid-Back Camp (Eps. 3-4)1:28:40 - Hakata Tonkotsu Ramens (Eps. 3-4)1:41:31 - Record of Grancrest War (Eps. 3-4)1:54:18 - Darling in the FranXX (Eps. 3-4)2:12:40 - CiTRASH update (Eps. 3-4)Twitter: https://twitter.com/NerdomandOtherWebsite: https://nerdomandothernonsense.blogspot.com/ iTunes: https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/nerdom-and-other-nonsense/id1203061952?mt=2 Google Play: https://play.google.com/music/m/Iuqfigskscnxqhhatxmfyrec7gi?t=Nerdom_and_Other_Nonsense

00:00:00 - Katie McKissick, creator of the Beatrice the Biology and contributor to Symbiartic, joins Ben and Ryan to talk about the highs and lows of making comics about biology. (NOTE TO PARENTS: The language does get a bit salty, it is biology after all.) Katie has also recently put out a book of her comics, Amoeba Hugs and Other Nonsense, which you would be an utter fool not to buy. 00:38:39 - Drinks go into your biology and that can be a good thing. Katie has a Gams-bart Roggenbier from Los Angeles Ale Works, aka her husband's brewery! Ben enjoys some sticky sweet soursop juice. And Ryan makes a Corpse Reviver #2 in honor of a certain holiday. 00:49:24 - We talk about zombies often, so how could we avoid covering the trailer for the upcoming fire monkey zombie movie World War Z. And don't forget, we talked to the author of the book, Max Brooks, back in episode 66. 01:13:14 - Some clever chaps at the Max Plank Institute have released their findings readjusting the ratios of dark energy, dark matter, and regular matter. Ben takes a long time to explain this and Ryan forgot to turn on the timer duck. Sorry Christina! (And really everyone else too.) 01:41:52 - PaleoPOWs are a lot like constants in phyisics, they change all the time. Ryan has a generous donation from Bryan E. Thanks, Bryan! And Trevor R. wants to know what's up with this "archive" thing. Turns out it's spelled arXiv and you can go there to learn stuff.
