Nathan and Jeremy are joined by resident Commanders expert Ben Schwartz to recap the exciting upset win over the Super Bowl Champion Seahawks. This week on Fright Flick FMK, we're watching and reacting to Capture — a supernatural horror movie about an orphan who inherits her parents' long-abandoned house and discovers something waiting inside that should have stayed buried. Abby finds an old camcorder along with a collection of videotapes containing pieces of her family's past. Sounds nostalgic. It isn't. As she starts digging through the footage, disturbing family secrets begin coming to light — along with the horrifying truth about the camera itself. Apparently some home movies are better left unwatched. Capture comes from director Bruce Wemple, an indie filmmaker with a long run of horror and sci-fi movies including The Retreat, First Contact, Island Escape, The Hangman, and The North Witch. And there is a cool old-school angle behind this one: the filmmakers tracked down an actual 1995 Sony MiniDV camcorder for the production, leaning into the creepy home-video aesthetic and some early-2000s J-horror influence. That sounds like exactly our kind of bad decision. È il viaggio del cinema, ed è il tema al centro di La profondità del cinema, il nuovo libro di Paolo Antonio D'Andrea pubblicato da Ediciclo Editore all'interno della collana "Piccola filosofia di viaggio" — il primo titolo della serie dedicato interamente al grande schermo.D'Andrea parte da un'immagine semplice e potente: lo spettatore come "viaggiatore immobile". Come scrive l'autore, "il corpo non va da nessuna parte. Eppure, nessun altro dispositivo ha prodotto un'esperienza di viaggio altrettanto potente." "Well, "Sinead O'Rebellion." Shock me, shock me, shock me with that deviant behavior." We watched "Empire Records" with our dear friend Espie Quintero, and we don't feel that we need to explain our art to you. We know this movie may be polarizing to viewers - it's the kind of film that if you didn't grow up with, you may not hold it as dear as those who did. We're okay with that. Yes, this movie is a series of needle drops and vignettes in which a group of tattooed weirdos lip sync to pop/rock songs of various levels of acclaim. Yes, this movie at times feels like a young adult/teen soap in which the characters are overly emotional. And yes, this movie is a little light on plot. But what "Empire Records" really has going for it is a very endearing cast, a fun "slice of life" storyline set in the coolest of the cool, crown jewel of teen/young adult jobs - the '90s end-all-be-all - a freakin' record store! We wax nostalgic about our earliest memories of watching this movie, or record store memories from the 90s and early aughts, and play an EPIC game of FMK with "Empire Records" characters. From there, things spiral into murder, possession, romance, rebellion, and the kind of beautiful monster chaos that feels made for a late-night Fright Flick FMK watch-along. This may not be your usual masked-killer, body-count horror movie, but it is absolutely playing in the horror sandbox: resurrection, obsession, dead bodies, mad science, doomed love, and people making choices that should have come with a warning label.
