Will it be May? Maybe October? Perhaps November? Surely not January 2025? Yes, everyone is talking about when the next general election is going to be held – and speculating when Rishi Sunak will decide to go to the country.   So is it right for the prime minister to have the power to choose the date of a general election? What are the key considerations to make when looking at the polls – or the weather forecast? And what does history tell us about when is the right time to call an election – and when is the wrong time to stick rather than twist?   This special episode of Inside Briefing brings together three veterans of elections that were – or maybe weren't – to look back on their experiences and discuss what might happen next.   Former Labour MP Jacqui Smith was home secretary when Gordon Brown chose not to call a general election in the autumn of 2007. Katie Perrior was working as the Number 10's director of communications when Theresa May decided to call a snap election in 2017. Political adviser and pollster James Johnson worked in No10 as a strategic adviser to Theresa May between 2016 and 2019.   Presented by Tim Durrant. Produced by Milo Hynes and Podmasters.

Allow us to indulge our inner aunties: We've set you up on a really hot date this episode—with one of nature's sweetest fruits, the date! Adored by pleasure-seekers and paleo dieters alike, dates are a Christmas baking standby, and the first bite when breaking fast during Ramadan. These fudgy, caramelly, brown-buttery fruits are so important in their Arab homelands that they're known as the "bread of the desert" and thought to be the tree of life in the Garden of Eden story. We reveal why this episode, plus we've also got the story of how a Native American couple in Nevada may have saved the Medjool date for the world, as well as how California built an Orientalist fantasy around its burgeoning date industry, complete with Wild East shows, hoochie-coochie dances, and camel races. Slumber parties are supposed to be filled with fun, excitement, ice cream, pizza and benign games like Truth or Dare or Mystery Date, which was a revived popular board game back in the 1990s. Polly Klaas expected a night of fun with friends. What no one expected is that a night of fun and giggles would soon turn into a night of terror and screams for three young ladies. A night they'll never likely forget. #truecrime #truecrimecommunity #truecrimepodcast #pollyklaas #richardallendavis #kidnapping #murder

Check in your brain, because you won't necessarily need it. And swap your body, because yes, you can. It's "Minions" and "Self/Less" time!   In addition to reviewing the big releases, Rafer and Kristen also spend some time with "Walk of Shame," for this week's Mystery Date. And they also welcome special guest Dito Montiel, director of Robin Williams's final film, "Boulevard."  All that, plus trivia!

The future used to be a bright shiny thing covered in chrome and dreams. But as "Tomorrowland" reminds us, the future isn't what it used to be. That could be a good thing...or a very bad thing. In addition to looking ahead to the future, Rafer and Kristen also look back at the life of BASE jumper Carl Boenish, who's the subject of "Sunshine Superman." They also look at the present way that wars are fought, in "Good Kill." They also do a deep dive into this week's Sweatpants pick, "Scrotal Recall," and fight over whether or not this week's Mystery Date, "The Loft," is any good. All that, plus trivia!

When the world is coming to an end, and mankind is reduced to their most animal instincts, the only logical thing to do is race cars and sing pop songs a capella. At least, that's what you might think if you muddle this week's two big releases: "Mad Max: Fury Road," starring Charlize Theron and Tom Hardy; and "Pitch Perfect 2," starring Rebel Wilson, Anna Kendrick, and Elizabeth Banks (who also directs). Rafer and Kristen weigh in on both films. They also launch a new feature, Mystery Date, in which they watch and review one of the many mysterious films that randomly appears in their iTunes, Netflix, Hulu, or Amazon feeds. There's a special Movie Therapy question this week, that involves a listener's secret family history. And, as usual, there's trivia!
