Just in time for International Cat Day on August 8, new kids musical sensation The Future Brigade will release their second single, “Cat Attack (Watch Your Back!),” from Vox Records. The brainchild of Virginia-based singer/songwriter Wes Charlton, “Cat Attack” encourages kids to explore the importance of animal conservation—while smiling, laughing, and bopping to the beat. To promote International Cat Day education on digital platforms, The Future Brigade will feature the online premiere of the “Cat Attack (Watch Your Back!)” single, available wherever music is streamed, as well as on their social media. For the 7th year in a row Aiken, S.C. non-profit SuccessTeam is holding its back-to-school and resource drive. The non-profit provides support for community youth, ages 13-18, to achieve their dreams. Shawn spoke with the founder of the organization, Tim Behling, about what families can expect.

“Never Again” as a stage play was launched in the Imperial theater on October 26, 2002, to a sold-out audience before touring the southeast from 2002-2004. Michael Jones later toured two other gospel stage plays, “40 Acres, Who stole the Mule?” from 2006-2009 and “When God calls, will you answer?” from 2011-2018 throughout the southeast. “Never Again” is based on the mental conditioning of slavery as a grandmother in 2022 explains a timeline of history to her grandson that incles slavery, Negro baseball league, Jim Crow, Vietnam, police injustice, and more. It’s a global movement, but its focus and mission are all local. I spoke with several of the dozens of the 60 families and 15 homeless people that Walking Tall Ministry helps in the Aiken County, South Carolina area. Organizers say the idea for the much-needed resource was one from above. The organization has a number of initiatives it provides to families and people who need it the most including a daily soup kitchen, food pantry, free hair salon, hygiene and clothing closet, and an indoor shower facility. Often times it may be hard for an African-American men to be placed in leading roles in films, TV, or even stage plays. Le Chat Noir is hosting the play Voice in my soul, Yearning to Breathe Free. This one act play shows the struggles of a black actor trying to make it. Actors Samuel Lee Fudge and Reggie Freeman stopped by Television Park to talk to me about the play.
Back December 2018, Brad Jeffcoat contacted NewsChannel 6 about an issue he was having at his home. Three crimes in less than a month. Following the second incident, he installed a security camera. He provided that video to us exclusively. That video was seen by officials in the North Police Department and that started the ball rolling on finding out who was responsible for the incident. Now the man convicted will spend the rest of his life in prison for stealing a TV. Shawn spoke with Assistant Solicitor of the Second Judicial Circuit Jackson Cooper over the phone about the case and what happened to make Randy Chestnut have to stay in prison. A bill in the South Carolina Statehouse could close the state's only two year historically black college. The S.C. House passed its version of the state’s $9 billion budget including a proviso that would temporarily close Denmark Technical College and re-open it as an area trade school. The proviso would close the college and a nine-member committee will study it. The findings then will be reported to several committees by October 1, 2019. I went to Denmark, South Carolina and spoke with a number of leaders including Bamberg Mayor Nancy Foster, Denmark Mayor Dr. Gearld Wright, and Attorney Evert Comer Jr on their thoughts when they first received word of the proviso, the proposed flight school for Denmark Tech, and if turning it into a trade school would be a viable option.
