Today, we're discussing the tragic murder of Austin Metcalf — a case that's not just heartbreaking but deeply revealing of a larger cultural crisis we need to address head-on. I'll be sharing my raw thoughts on what happened, and more importantly, having the uncomfortable (but necessary) conversation surrounding crime statistics in the black community. If we're ever going to see real change — fewer senseless killings, safer neighborhoods, and stronger families — then we have to stop tiptoeing around the truth. It's time to talk about why these patterns keep repeating and what cultural shifts must happen to break the toxic and deadly cycle. This isn't about hate — it's about accountability, truth, and the fight for life, stability, and genuine justice.—https://policecoffee.com/?gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAACG7qmLTSF8TidU6uJpGkHMYzxsnd&gclid=Cj0KCQjwqcO_BhDaARIsACz62vPh4GA_6w_PdX8w4PW0sRhPD76KOyhYBmiEOdpiLXHP1G10c9kaPMEaAkK-EALw_wcB

South Jackson, Mississippi community leaders hold another useless #stoptheviolence rally over the weekend while ignoring the true root cause of the problems in their community. JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) -State, community, and faith-based leaders took to the streets Saturday sharing a plea for people to put the guns down. Organizers are hoping to spark change as they flood the streets in Jackson with their message. “We need unity, we need peace.” “Where is the love in Jackson Streets?” Those were some of the chants that rang out at the rally. With signs in hand, rallygoers let their voices and presence be known at every corner of McDowell Road. Many of them stopped vehicles to spread messages of love and peace. “We are in a community right now that's hurting. They need to see that someone cares for them and cares about them,” said Fabian Nelson, State Representative of District 66 James Hopkins is one of the organizers of the rally. “It's time to put the guns down and stop the violence”. He says the goal is to bring awareness to the ongoing violence that continues to plague the capital city, hoping to bring it all to an end. “Sometimes we just need this to remind people that we are still a city. There are still people out here who love the city and people who want things to be better,” the community activists said. According to WLBT's Homicide tracker, the city is now at 90 homicides. Those on hand say it's important to be out at the forefront to deter crime.
One year ago, news began breaking about an attack on Israel by the Islamic group Hamas whose fighters invaded southern Israel and murdered around 1200 people - children, women and men. They also captured around 240 others- children, men and women- and kept them hostage. It was the biggest killing of Jews since the Holocaust during World War Two. Israel's response was brutal- in the past year they have bombed Gaza- bombed refugee camps, schools, hospitals, homes- and in the process killed over 41,000 children, women and men. In the past few weeks, the war has escalated...another Shia militant group, backed by Iran- Hezbollah- have increased their attacks from Southern Lebanon into Northern Israel, and in response Israel has launched a ferocious response on Lebanon- they killed Hezbollah's leader Hassan Nasrallah and they've been blamed for exploding pagers and walkie talkies being carried by Hezbollah members. The Lebanese health ministry say nearly 2000 people have been killed there in the past three weeks. And then Iran got directly involved- they fired 1800 rockets at Israel- most of which were intercepted by the Israeli missile defence systems. How Israel will respond to that is not yet clear. So this is the scenario that is facing the Middle East right now. What might happen next? What can the United States and Europe do to stop it? Presenter Audrey Carville in conversation with Gershon Baskin, who has been advisor to both Israeli, Palestinian and international prime ministers on the peace process, Dr Yvonne Ridley is a journalist and author - she was taken hostage by the Taliban in Afghanistan in 2001, and Dr Leon Litvack is from Queen's University.

Ever since KRS-One started the "Stop The Violence" movement in the 80s with its flagship song "Self-Destruction" which featured some of the Who's Who of rap at the time: KRS-One, D-Nice, Stetsasonic, Kool Moe Dee, MC Lyte, Doug E. Fresh, Heavy DPublic Enemy (Chuck D & Flavor Flav), and others, rap has been fighting an uphill battle with itself. While indirectly honoring Nipsey Hussle, Kendrick Lamar performed a pop out concert in the name of peace and unity. But when it comes to rap, how does the sinner preach the gospel as a savior?Support the Show.https://www.youtube.com/@lifeonpodcast/videos

Young people are heavily impacted by Gender-based violence which, is deeply rooted in the unequal power dynamics between genders. The consequences of gender-based violence extend beyond immediate physical harm, often leading to long-lasting emotional trauma and hindering personal and inter-personal development and the ability to fully participate in the socio-economic sphere. The Thinking Reimagined Podcast®️ team of Dr. Ama, Peter Armand Boyo (Co-Producer, Director, Actor, Filmmaker & Brand Ambassador) and Nifemi Oguntoye (Co-host) welcomed Akachi Chiemela (Youth Coach), Lydian John (Actress, Author, Founder, Better You Initiative), Olvia C Madu (President, Strategic Women and Youths Institute ), Taiwo Opeoluwa (Founder, Africa Bridge Initiative) examine the root causes of violence from the youth perspective, including the lack of self-worth, psychological factors, such as, misplaced frustration and cultural norms that glorify male superiority. The panelists, frankly narrate personal anecdotes of unhealthy relationships as well as verbal and emotional abuse. They stress the importance of educating both young men and women on respect and consent. They detailed action points to mitigate violence including; male-focused programs from a young age, reporting inappropriate comments, behaviour and abuse on digital platforms. They believe Gender Based Violence (GBV) is learned behaviour which can be addressed through education and a mindset shift which, does not normalise any form of violence. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thinking-reimagined/message

As hip-hop found its rhythm in the late 80s and early 90s, artists had to grapple with the scars of violence the drug war was causing within the community, using music videos like “Self Destruction” to hold each other accountable, and trying not to unravel in the face of what was happening in the streets. This is also when hip-hop began to expand outside of New York, to Los Angeles, where California's own policies and structures were shaping the rise of gangsta rap. These movements culminated in the so-called “golden age” of hip-hop, a time of maturing and sophistication in the music. But along with that maturity came uncertainty from national leaders, and a new wave of commercialization that threatened to unravel this political artform. On this episode of “Street Disciples,” Trymaine Lee hears from: Daddy-O from the hip-hop group Stetsasonic, rapper and producer The D.O.C., Video Music Box's Ralph McDaniels, radio host Bobbito Garcia, writer Nelson George, and journalist Davey D.Note: this episode contains several instances of profanity.
