Dean's Chat is so excited to welcome back student doctor Miko Fogarty! As a current 4th year student at the Samuel Merritt University College of Podiatric Medicine, she shares unique insights into what her 4th year has been like traveling the country for her externship programs and what she is most excited for in the future.  In this interview, Drs. Jensen and Richey dive deeper into Miko's previous career as a professional ballerina. Born in London, Miko Fogarty is a former award-winning professional ballet dancer and a current podiatric medical student. At the age of 12, she was one of six ballet dancers featured in the critically acclaimed documentary "First Position: A Ballet Documentary", directed and produced by Bess Kargman. Aftertraining at the Indiana Ballet Conservatory in the U.S. and Jinushi Kaoru Ecole du Ballet in Japan, Mikojoined the Birmingham Royal Ballet as the youngest artist in 2015 and toured around the United Kingdom dancing in performances such as Swan Lake, Romeo and Juliet, Midsummer's Night Dream, and the Nutcracker. Miko has received worldwide recognition for her performances. She was awarded the Gold Medal at theMoscow International Ballet Competition and was a Prize Winner at the Prix de Lausanne in Switzerland. Other accolades include the Silver Medal from Varna International Ballet Competition, a Bronze Medal from YAGP New York Finals, and two Gold Medals from the World Ballet Competition. Miko has been invited to perform in performances around the world including in countries such as Peru, Bulgaria, Russia, Switzerland, Mexico, Japan, Canada, Taiwan, Singapore, Thailand, China, Australia, Indonesia, Scotland, Northern Ireland, England, and all across the United States. Although Miko's dance career was flourishing, she could not ignore her goal of pursuing a college education and discovering more about the intricacies of medicine and healthcare. She started at Feather River College and Contra Costa College, where she earned her Chemistry and Biology Associate's Degrees before transferring to the University of California, Berkeley in 2018. Miko graduated with honors in Integrative Biology in 2020 while also researching brain cancer therapies at the University of California, San Francisco. Currently, Miko is a podiatric medical student studying to become a foot and ankle surgeon in California. Miko found her passion for teaching classical ballet in Thailand when she gave her first ballet class in 2016. Since then, Miko has continued to teach and has coached hundreds of students of all levels. She has taught masterclasses in New Zealand, Panama, Mexico, Australia, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Philippines. Miko is also active on social media with over 230,000 followers on Instagram and 29 million views on Youtube and was listed as one of “The Most Influential People of 2011” in Dance Spirit Magazine. Miko was given the honor of sharing her inspiring journey on the National Public Radio in 2018 which led to a TEDxBerkeley talk in 2019 and Imagine Talks speech in 2020. She hopes to give her students and patients the inspiration they need to pursue their goals while also prioritizing their physical and mental health. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Q-KcrLGnco https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QpZZZhJIemw https://www.linkedin.com/in/mikofogarty/

Going to California. The whole gang is here in San Francisco, Guinan, Jack London, and Mark Twain included. There are aliens stealing human mind energies and Beverly Crusher has been crushing it as a nurse in a cholera ward. If there was a way to hide murderous aliens by going back in time, our dear doctor tells us THIS would be the perfect crime. Except Riker the cop who totally respects the law. Twain is a pain in Guinan's actual bonnet, while Picard rents a room from the most Irish landlady in Berkeley as, you guessed it, a traveling band of theater actors rehearsing Midsummer's Night Dream. Twain goes through time to the Enterprise, Data's head gets screwed on, and Guinan falls in friend love with a bald man. Then everything gets wrapped nicely. Somehow. We wanted to bring you an episode that not only covers the main event singles match between Katsuhiko Nakajima and Kento Miyahara at Pro Wrestling NOAH's One Night Dream event on July 15, but extensive discussion around the build to this historic confrontation going back to Muto's retirement show in February. We also examine the roles the media and external figures have played in shaping what we know of the Diamond Ring story and the alleged "feud" between Nakajima and Kento. The first weekend of the 33rd G1 Climax is in the books, so Dylan & STRIGGA sat down to look back at the best matches of the first set of shows – was there a signature G1 match that takes the tournament out of the gates? Besides the matches, the two talk about the start of the Reiwa Toukon Three Musketeers and their individual prospects of positioning within the company. STRIGGA & Dylan also lay out their picks for block winners, runner ups and for the winner of the G1 Climax 33. With that in mind, the two discuss some booking ideas for Wrestle Kingdom 18 that revolves around the question if SANADA remains champion until January 4. At the end of the show the focus transitions to Pro Wrestling NOAH's One Night Dream show, a unique spectacle of a show that featured one of the best matches of the year in Katsuhiko Nakajima vs. Kento Miyahara.

In the immortal words of the 2001 movie, Get Over It,“Did you ever read a Shakespeare play? And not understand a word they say? Well tonight we're going to make things clear. Because Shakespeare's dead and we're all here.”This week's episode is about Midsummer's Night Dream. We're making sense of Shakespeare's flowery words and complicated plot, discussing the different interpretations of it, and then ending with the riot that took down a beloved Opera House right in the middle of a Shakespearean performance.  Our movie this week is the modern modern reinterpretation of the play, called, Get Over It, starring Kirsten Dunst.  It's a great teen romantic comedy that attempts to put on Midsummer Night's Dream as the school play.  Dunst shines as always as the heroine and we cheer when she finally gets together with her hero, Ben Foster. Martin Short is a stand out as a slightly unstable music teacher who dreams of Broadway. Once we've covered the movie, we move on to the play itself. Shakespeare was inspired by Ovid's Metamorphoses and makes some allusions to it in the play. We'll talk about Hermia and Puck and the great scene when Puck sprinkles fiery dust so the fairy queen falls in love with an ass. Who among us cannot relate? Last up is a discussion of the Astor Opera House Riot. Two Shakespearean actors fight in the public arena as a mere squabble quickly becomes about class as well as America's own identity as a culture. And of course, the riot turns deadly. It's a rollicking good time as always so be sure to tune in. Follow us on Twitter and Instagram:https://twitter.com/MythsMovieshttps://instagram.com/mythsinmoviesSources!Staton, W. Exploring new sensory perspectives that challenge our relationship to the world around us plays a key role in Robin and the team at MLF's work. His interest in full immersion lead to a 5 year deep-dive into virtual production and interaction techniques which has informed the development of mixed-reality storytelling methods for new forms of audience engagement. Earlier in 2021, this manifested in the pioneering collaboration with the Royal Shakespeare Company's online interactive interpretation of A Midsummer's Night Dream. In DREAM Robin and the MLF team utilised virtual production and realtime techniques to create an interactive, immersive digital WORLD for the RSC performance - which was critical in the show's pivot to a fully online experience during lockdown. In this episode we explore the creative and technological process of DREAM and how virtual production tools can be utilised in a live theatrical experience. Robin also talks about the business of interactive storytelling and shares his incredibly thoughtful and articulate perspectives on the future of audiences and screen storytelling. Audiences and staff aren't the only ones excited for opera's return to the desert this season. Jane Trembley chats with soprano Teresa Perrotta and bass Allen Michael Jones, two performers in the 2021 Santa Fe Opera Apprentice Program for Singers. Teresa and Allen Michael take listeners inside this “summer camp” for singers which is internationally recognized as one of the first, and most exceptional programs of its kind. They share stories about the audition process, performance opportunities, and the moments that make singing in front of live audiences again so special.   Teresa Perrotta is busy. When she's not hiking desert trails (a first for this native Floridian) or training for her fight scene as Helena in SFO's production of A Midsummer's Night Dream, Teresa's collaborating with the Apprentice Program's world-renowned guest artists and instructors. “We get to work with a lot of different people and make new connections,” she says. “So, very busy. Lots of singing! But there's a combination of performing and really learning about our craft which is really nice.” Allen Michael Jones agrees. A relative newcomer to opera, he's quickly cultivated a love for the endurance, emotion, and vulnerability that this art form demands. In addition to his Santa Fe Opera Chorus duties, Allen Michael performs the role of Zaretsky in Eugene Onegin. Although the Apprentice Program's class and performance structure is intense, the rewards vastly outweigh the rigors. “You know, [it's] a lot to do in a little amount of time and there's no better feeling than knowing that I've actually accomplished something,” he says, adding, “I always say to myself, ‘I don't know how I'm going to pull this one off this time, but I know I will.'” Even with the added work of preparing scenes for the Apprentice Scenes showcase, Teresa and Allen Michael have both found time to sample Santa Fe's glorious cuisine. So, which one made a secret confession in the great chile debate?  CREDITS Destination Santa Fe Opera is a Santa Fe Opera podcast, produced and edited by Andrea Klunder at The Creative Impostor Studios. Selector Dubee discovered a passion for the stage at an early age. In the fifth grade he played Demetrius in his schools production of A Midsummer's Night Dream. Coming of age in the 80s presented a great outlet for that desire to entertain. Captivated by Hip-Hop culture and its musical score, he started break-dancing at 15. Thus began his search for a medium where he could marry a great stage presence and love of music. Dubee spent his college years in the Green Mountains of Vermont, performing in the Johnson State College theater and hosting a weekly radio show. These days were still all about the hip-hop...After a stint on the lively scene in Burlington, Vermont - a very music-friendly community, he linked up with Infinite and rocked the local club and party scene, using the closeness of family and the power of music to feed the hungry little city. "DJ Dubee" opened for artists including Raekwon, Ghostface Killer, Capadonna, and Black Moon.Infinite was rich with wisdom and bestowed on Dubee a connectedness that he really needed. It was through his new family that Dubee aligned himself with a true sound system, and is forever grateful to Clint, Universal and the whole Retribution Crew Sound, Brooklyn, NY.Always a crowd-pleaser, Dubee loves to create an excellent vibe, and it became imperative to deliver a powerful message with the music. With Burlington's huge Dancehall scene, and the evolution of hip-hop to hip-pop, Dubee found himself drawn to Dancehall Reggae.Born in Bridgeport, CT (1973), Dubee never forgot his roots, hes returned to explore a bigger scene and get some exposure in NYC - while founding Burn Dem Up Productions with Eddie "Smoke" Jack
