SoulCraft aims to inspire, teach, and motivate people to take control of their life story and define SUCCESS on their terms. Your host, Brian Ehrlich, interviews regular folks that are creating unique life stories that are, at times, grandiose and at others beautifully simple. It is between these frames that they have created a story that is wholly unique to them. We’ll get the answers to help us on our life adventures so we can take control of our stories because… When You Write the Story of Your Life, Don’t Let Anyone Else Hold the Pen.
I love Theodore Roosevelt, I'm jumping into change, and hoping we can continue to help some more people get a pair and start having agency. What kind of conversations are we having? Are they engaging, enriching? Or do they revolve around what happened on Netflix and the school parents gossip? As always I'd love it if you head over to soulcrafttribe.com to sign up for our email. No spammy crap just useful stuff and we'll let you know when the latest episode drops. Sincerely, Brian Ehrlich

In today's episode I'm not sure if we're listening to a movie script or just the real life story of Carlos Cardenas. Carlos came from South America and by all accounts is living the American dream, but it didn't come easy and has had a few plot twists. You'll have to listen in to hear how Carlos in all his twists and turns, ups and downs, has managed to create a thriving story with his wife and FIVE kids. He has also created his newest venture with a definitive purpose that enriches the lives around him. For another twist, Michael Corley, a former guest on this podcast and my good friend, takes the interviewers seat this week! Awesome job Michael! Thanks for tuning in! Best, Brian

We MUST have more FREE RANGE KIDS out there today! It's a term that was developed that describes how kids used to grow up but it is now the outlier way. Laws are being passed and organizations are actively recruiting parents to actually let kids be kids. If you just arrived from 40 or 50 years in a time machine, you might find this all laughable, but that is the state of affairs today. authentic (from Miriam Webster): real or genuine : not copied or false : true and accurate. When it comes to authentic people I think that definition is a bit simplistic. It is a little harder to define, but like a great photograph you just know it when you see it. I used to play golf so pulling this movie clip from the archives. Ralph Waldo Emerson...we all know him, heard his quotes, but his quote used for this Monday Nugget might as well have been said today, because it rings even louder. In today's conversation I had the opportunity to sit down with Kameron Kelsey, owner of the 9 Quarter Circle Ranch in Gallatin Gateway, MT. He's a 3rd generation dude ranch owner and has more connection to history and land than a lot of us. The joy and satisfaction he gets from deriving his and his family's livelihood from the land is contagious and can teach us the importance of connecting with the natural world around us. He's got some great stories about the history of such a gorgeous location, the guests and how he, as the 3rd generation owner is weaving his own story through the ranch and stamping his mark on the history of it. Ren·ais·sance man (noun) a person with many talents or areas of knowledge. /ˈˌrenəˈˌsäns man/ That is Bob Tait in a nutshell. Bob is one of those guys that at first you almost don't believe his story because there's just so much to it and so many twists and turns. Trust me, I was one of those people at first. But then, over the years as I got to know Bob and listen to his story I realized it was all true. He's a guy that has had great vistas from high peaks, but also has been through some dark valleys. He's a good friend and quite a character and I think you'll enjoy the story he has written so far. Go to soulcrafttribe.com to comment. It's the Poetry Minute on SoulCraft! Just kidding, but seriously on this Monday Nugget we read Thomas Dylan's best-known Do Not Go Gentle into That Good Night. It is a good reminder that we all lose the fight in the end, but it is how we battle during the time we're here that dictates how we live our story and how it affects the stories of those around us. Today's guest is Mike French. I've know Mike for a number of years and I think under his layers of being a former educational executive, a craftsman, and pretty good musician he's got a bit of philosopher hidden. Mike has jumped off the hamster wheel and has become so much more than a maker. From intentionally seeking simplicity to calling out the busyness in our lives, Mike shares his own struggles and triumphs and continued pursuit of writing his own story. This isn't touchy feely couch talk but rather Mike gives examples from his own life on how he continually strives to be intentional on the choices he's making in his story. This Episode might offend some parents and that's good, because I believe in our duty to help our kids and the next generation collectively, write a great story of their own. Somewhere between the Greatest Generation and ours we've gotten to a point where over protection has gotten so bad with our kids we needed a new term just to counter it. Free range kids as they're now called, used to be just "kids". Unfortunately, all the overprotective parents have forced a whole class of kids to be reclassified when they all used to be called ...just kids. Tune in to find out how this new breed of parenting can have the same effects on our kids' stories as NEGLECTFUL parents do. Did you ever draw stick figures as a kid? Ever paint with your fingers? Ever play dress up or cops and robbers? Thought you were the next Pablo Picasso? When was the last time you did something creative? I know lots of questions, but really essential questions to writing a COMPLETE story. Don't believe you aren't creative, that's a line of bullshit that's been fed to you. Don't let the sharp tie and fancy suit full you, Michael's as tough as they come and humble too. When Michael's not running his company, he's out doing full Ironmans, running multiple marathons and learning guitar with kids. Yes, he might have the markings of career success, but when sitting down with him you quickly understand he has passion for making his brief time here a worthwhile story. He'll teach us about the ways he's overcome his fears and things he does so his story and adventure doesn't stop with empty chapters at the end. Oh and take a little pity on him, he's a Vol, so he's also had to endure some pain that's out of his control. In this Monday Nugget installment we listen to the sage advice of someone whom I'm sure has been called a jackass, surly, pain in the ass, and more. I bet he accepted those titles just fine because he so owned his story, believed in his crusade, and purpose that that was just all outside noise. You know the question; if you could have dinner with 3 people... he might be on my shortlist. One the best scenes in all of Hollywood when it comes to staring out our own lives and fears. How much do we try and deflect from owning our stories by judging others about theirs? Steve Brennan is right in the thick of writing his story and has just finished some really challenging chapters. He's emerged stronger and more eager to help others take control of their stories. Welcome to SoulCraft! I'm super excited you're here. We're all on this adventure of life and we're all going to have a story to tell about it. The problem is there's so much noise and b***llsh**t out there that's it's hard to write our story and define SUCCESS ON OUR TERMS. We hope to change that by talking to people like you and me that are already doing IT; in big and small ways. They're not the ones with their names in lights or have millions of followers. But, they've made a choice to take control of their story and are creating their definition of success based on the values and motivations that are most important to them. I'm your host Brian Ehrlich. So who am I and what qualifies me? Well basically I'm here with you, trying to write my own story as a husband, father, small business owner and fellow life adventurer. I have just as much motivation to learn from this tribe, this content, and these awesome people as you do!
