We wanna hear from you! Send us a message here :) With a style that's defined by melodic grit and a craftsman's approach to songwriting, John Morgan brings a blue-collar toughness to country that's pulled straight from the only life he knows. Hailing from a tiny town called Sylva, deep in the Great Smoky Mountains of North Carolina, John grew up immersed in bluegrass tradition and even toured the festival circuit each summer in a family band, before diving into songwriting, inspired by six-string legends from Tony Rice to John Mayer. More than a year after selling everything he had to follow his dream, an only-in-Nashville story involving Uber drivers and impressive demos led to a writing session with Kurt Allison and Tully Kennedy — two incredible songwriters and longtime bandmates of Country superstar Jason Aldean. That session led to the superstar cutting numerous songs written by John, including #1 hit singles “Trouble With A Heartbreak” and the GRAMMY® nominated, ACM Single of the Year “If I Didn't Love You” with Carrie Underwood. Signed to Aldean's Night Train Records, his imprint with BBR Music Group, the sought-after, naturally gifted songwriter who has written for Jon Pardi, Dustin Lynch, Thomas Rhett and more and toured with Aldean, ERNEST, Riley Green and Jameson Rodgers – now continues to cross off bucket-list items. Having made his Grand Ole Opry debut, released an anthemic debut EP Remember Us?, John's barn-burner, fan-favorite track “Friends Like That (feat. Jason Aldean)” is available now! Support the Show.

From North Carolina, Blake has been in Nashville since 2013 with a very productive 10 years of experience built up. Blake talks about his first connections here in Nashville leading to him getting his first cut in town for Morgan Wallen... His breakthrough came with “865”, track 5 on Morgan Wallen's “Dangerous” album, which he co-wrote on Zoom during COVID with John Byron. You're gonna hear Blake talk about that song catching Morgan's attention which would lead him to a publishing deal and 8 more cuts for Morgan. Blake's writing style resonates with artists like Morgan Wallen, Dustin Lynch, Jake Owen, Chase Rice, and Chris Lane. You'll hear the stories behind several of his Morgan Wallen cuts, “Key West and Colorado”, a cut he has with Chase Rice, and an unreleased song called “One of the Ways”. Coming up on three years since his first publishing deal, Blake discusses the challenges of songwriting in a competitive industry and the dynamics between Nashville's community-oriented culture compared to LA's strategic approach. We had a great time sitting down with Blake Pendergrass this week and learned a ton about where the industry is going and changing. Give Blake a follow in the liner notes below to stay up to date! Hi everyone! Chris Blair here with another episode of Stories Behind the Songs. My guest this week is the amazing Adam Sanders. Adam has played the Listening Room stage quite a bit throughout the years, has written tons of songs for some great artists, and makes music of his own with an EP entitled “Like It's Your Last” out now and a full album being released on February 2nd. Like most of our guests, Adam is a songwriter here in Nashville with cuts for Cole Swindell, Dierks Bentley, Scotty McCreery, Dustin Lynch, Blake Shelton, and more. He was one of the writers on Cole Swindell's “Ain't Worth the Whiskey” which became his first number one. We're going to talk about how he got his start in Nashville writing with Cole Swindell and Josh Martin before any of them made it big and takes us into the writers room when he wrote “Ain't Worth the Whiskey”. You'll also hear about the process of that song going to radio on the same week as “Hell of a Night” cut by Dustin Lynch. Apart from his successes as a songwriter, Adam talks about writing meaningful songs that tell a story and what his goals are in the industry going forward – both with writing songs for artists and making his own music. Keep an eye out for Adam's new album out next month and give him a follow to stay up to date. Kicking off Summer by bringing together different lives, telling stories & doing life with people you'd never dream of hanging with, the guys are sitting down with Dustin for what is one of the more surprising and entertaining conversations we had as we learn what it takes to be that 1% in music. Going through med school, Dustin was on path to be a doctor when his passion for songwriting and performing led him to Pivot into country music, risking the steady and safe option to chase his dream. And the chase paid off as Dustin sits atop country music charts with his current hit “Thinking of You” while playing to sold out crowds across the world with Kane Brown, Luke Bryan, Thomas Rhett and more. Dustin shares with the guys that urge to go after the ‘what if' that lives in all of us and how sometimes taking that unlikely path is the one that we are meant to take. From playing 4 hours on Broadway for 35$ to mowing grass to make ends meet to playing local parties to practice performing, Dustin spent over a decade writing and side jobs before he got the call that changed his life and he opens up to Ryan, Fred and Channing on what the journey has really been like. We see the big crowds, hear the songs on the radio, sold out tours, lines of women waiting to meet him but it's what we don't see that made Dustin who is he is today. Dustin shares a jaw dropping story about one night in Vegas involving Bruno Mars and Halle Berry which leaves Ryan, Fred and Channing speechless and even Fred a little bit jealous. A diehard Florida Gators fan, Dustin, takes a little heat from Ryan after LSU just won the College World Series as Fred and Channing jump in to go back and forth about their prideful alma mater. Channing tries his singing skills with Dustin and messes up the words to a famous like as Ryan wears a different hat in this one and embraces the conversation of how 3 former NFL players can sit with a country music star and have so much in common.
