Treachery's Afoot by Frank MacKay
Our guest is someone who spends a lot of time thinking about Europe's place in the world, and how it should adapt to the new global order of Donald Trump, Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping. We speak to Dutch political theorist and historian Luuk van Middelaar, who heads the Brussels Institute for Geopolitics, about European defence, its strategic autonomy, artificial intelligence policy and of course the frayed relationship with Donald Trump in the light of the US president's trade war.
On February 21, 2021, a grizzly discovery was made on Bournda Beach on the southern coast of New South Wales, Australia. A designer athletic shoe washed up on the beach. Inside of it, was a decomposing foot. After taking DNA samples from family members of missing persons in the area, the shoe and samples matched with a woman named Melissa Caddick, a 49-year-year old who'd been missing for three months following the raid of her home by the Australian Securities and Investments Commission. Initially, Caddick was being investigated for her part as the ringleader of an insider trading investigation, but authorities soon discovered her white collar schemes went much deeper. It appeared that Melissa had died by suicide, perhaps distraught over facing years in prison. Then, questions began to arise and suspicion fell on Melissa's husband, Anthony Koletti. Why'd he wait almost two days to report his wife missing? For more than a century, bestseller lists have been full of mysteries, thrillers, and detective stories. Alice Kinder takes us back through the history of detective tales from Agatha Christie and Sherlock Holmes to Edgar Allen Poe. And: What does it take to write a mystery novel? Polly Stewart, takes us into the creation of The Felons' Ball, her new book about family, moonshining, and murder in the mountains of Virginia. Later in the show: Fictional detectives rely on their wit and intuition to solve crimes–but also the cleverest forensic techniques. From the presence of rare bat droppings to unexpected fingerprints, footprints, or even lip prints–how realistic are fictional forensics? Barbara Spellman talks us through the real science behind forensic clues. Plus: Detective stories sometimes get a reputation as being pulpy or unserious. They're “just-for-fun” reading. But Antonia Delgado-Poust says that the detective fiction written by Spanish women in the 1990s and 2000s was more than just a good story. These writers were grappling with Spain's political legacy of injustice.

In this episode of iGaming Daily, supported by Optimove, James Ross is joined by Joe Streeter, Editor of iGaming Expert, to take a whistlestop tour of the latest iGaming news from around the world. The duo begin in Rwanda where the government has moved to significantly increase gambling taxes in the country amid increased political volatility. They explore the political and economic implications of the change and emphasise the importance of understanding the broader context of entering new markets for operators. After the break, the focus switches to Thailand where a major update to the regulatory framework for Thailand's casino bill could see the exclusion of the vast majority of Thai nationals from integrated resorts. Joe discusses the reaction to the news and the broader consequences for the sector in the region. Ending the episode, the conversation touches on Stake's viral marketing campaign involving Drake and the reactions to the stunt from across the iGaming industry. www.commsolutionsmn.com The DFL is still not showing up to the MN Legislature. They violated the MN constitution. They broke MN statutes. Not only are they not legally sworn in, but they continue to refuse to come to work. They MN Supreme Court disregarded the constitution and the law to side with the DFL. Secretary of State, Steve Simon, is also refusing to follow the law and go get the absent lawmakers upon request. The local media has been covering for them. Governor Walz has been silent (no surprise). Will the Republicans hold? We sure hope so. What's with all of the airplane crashes? Are they operator error or is air traffic control filled with DEI hires that are underqualified for the job? It's no secret that Mayor Pete was awful at his job and that the Department of Transportation is in shambles. We're not very far into the Trump administration, but the news is fast and furious. He has had four years to plan this moment and he is taking full advantage of the political winds being in his favor. He ended birthright citizenship, setting off a firestorm around the 14th amendment to the constitution. What does "subject to the jurisdiction of the United States" mean? That is the argument that President Trump's position hangs on. Are children of non-citizens subject to the jurisdiction of the US or their parents' country of origin? This may end up at the Supreme Court. The president moved to drill like crazy and refill our strategic reserves. He removed all of the green energy mandates that had taken away the ability of oil to compete for a share of the market. Tom Homan was empowered to go get illegal alien criminals and deport them or send them to Guantanamo Bay. He went to work right away and began to round up criminals. We are on our way to making America great again, and I don't know if anyone can stop it.
Beth Schewe urges empathy as she uncovers her own grandmother's journey as a migrant.
Heavy Snow is not the Norm in Tallahassee but change is, FAMU is an ever changing landscape for many reasons which can be cause for frustration for some and serve as hope for others. On one side we are seeing persons who have been integral to the success of the program depart for better opportunities while on other ends we see multiple rebuilds happen before our eyes. Change can seem to adversely affect sustainability but it could also bring in new thought which will allow the programs to grow. Stay warm FAMULY! #FAMU #FangsUp #HBCU #HBCUdigital

Hey Fandom! Welcome back for another episode of Roundtable Recap with your Challenge Fandom Podcast hosts Rick, Corrina, Josh and Alexis. Plus this week we had a very special guest join us: Alexis' husband Sam! We kick off the episode talking about football, the Mike Tyson VS Jake Paul fight and what in the world is Alexis doing with life size cut-outs?! If you'd like to skip this silly intro stuff, go to 08:02. We break into the episode recap by discussing our overall thoughts and giving the episode an overall grade. We also discuss what the foreshadow scene of Evelyn quitting in her elimination against Kellyanne could have meant, the heavy Bananas opener on this episode and what were everyone's thoughts on Johnny Bananas and Josh VS Michele? Next we debate whether or not Olivia's rookie season was a fluke, whether or not we believe that Cara truly wants to be one of Bananas' Angels, and without all the issues with Devin would Bananas have made Michele one of his top girls regardless of her performance level? We also discuss whether or not Johnny Bananas came to win or to have fun, why Tori is sticking by Josh so hard, our thoughts on the daily, what we would have liked to see differently, our assumptions on why we have been getting less physical games these last 5-8 seasons and is Michele truly the one in the house who is most like Cara? After a short break, we discuss the entire bus scene including how, as long time married couples, we would feel about the situation, Derek Chavez' deleted fight scene, our favorite new prospective alliance and why this season has been so much fun to watch socially. We also breakdown why Tori and Cara working together is better than them being rivals, Josh confirming he is on the Angel's side, Nia and Theo crashing the bar scene and of course Aviv's awkward confrontation of Michele and Olivia regarding the footsie callout on the bus scene. To wrap things up we breakdown the elimination, debate what we think is taking away from the dailies and eliminations the most, how we felt about Johnny Bananas cheering for Olivia and calling her "Liv", whether or not the eliminations are rigged for Michele, the biggest fan complaint that we are simply SICK OF and of course; we close out the show with discussing targets, next time on, MVP's lines of the night and any other stupid random things we can think of last minute. I am at an entirely different point in my life as a recent widower. Talk about change! Accordingly, I am shifting my attention to practitioners who make our daily lives livable, many of whom are paid by the hour. Yet, they shine and see their role and work as a personal practice. I will both podcast conversations with them and create short videos telling their stories. Yes, change is afoot. I'll still post conversations with organization and leadership developers, but I will feature the people whose work I also admire.

Episode Summary:The game is afoot! Join us on a thrilling adventure with bestselling author James Ponti as we delves into his latest middle-grade series, The Sherlock Society. I personally loved this Miami-based mystery. It has so much humor. The writing and characters are cinematic in scope. There's a little environmental thrillerism and it's got the best grandpa I think has ever been written in children's literature. Inspired by a contemplative walk around a lake in Orlando, James introduces us to a story that melds Florida's unique setting with the lively dynamic of kids solving cold cases alongside their fun-loving grandfather. The sibling duo, Alex and Zoe Sherlock, named in homage to the legendary detective, establish their detective agency to escape mundane chores, leading to a series of thrilling escapades. Learn how real-life figures like Al Capone and Murph the Surf inspired the plot, adding historical authenticity. James Ponti's vivid descriptions and cinematic style bring this heartwarming and exciting mystery to life, making it a must-read for young audiences. Michael Rubin, the director of policy analysis at the Middle East Forum and a senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute, joins Thanos Davelis to look into this latest report and break down why an F-35 reboot for Turkey is a mistake.
