Polarean Imaging PLC chief business officer Alex Dusek talked with Proactive's Stephen Gunnion about the company's latest expansion into pharmaceutical-sponsored trials. This new initiative involves a multinational trial utilising Polarean's Xenon MRI technology to assist drug development for lung diseases. Dusek explained that traditional lung function tests, such as spirometry, are crude and highly variable, making trials costly and time-consuming. Xenon MRI offers a more sensitive measurement, reducing variability and allowing drug companies to conduct trials with significantly fewer patients. "If you're designing a trial, let's say it's 25 to 50 patients with Xenon, that would take you 250 to 500 patients with the more traditional measures," he noted. Polarean is providing pharmaceutical companies with imaging biomarkers and harmonised data analysis, streamlining drug development. The company is also establishing a network of clinical sites equipped with Xenon MRI, creating an ecosystem that benefits sponsors, trial sites, and Polarean itself. Dusek highlighted Polarean's partnership with VIDA Diagnostics, a well-known name in lung drug development, to further enhance the impact of this initiative. Are you carrying around unresolved father wounds? In this episode, David Dusek unpacks how a father's words ripple through generations and what you can do to promote healing. David will challenge you to refocus on your family, reconnect with your kids, and recognize that as long as you're breathing, it's not too late to finish well. Key Takeaway The enemy isolates you on purpose through fear of embarrassment. You need a strong brotherhood to help you see through the fog and chaos of life. If your kid doesn't engage in conversation, they might not feel comfortable enough to bring you their problems because they know you'd be disappointed. The issue with the father wound is it can manifest itself so far down the line in ways that seem functional but aren't. It doesn't matter how you start; it only matters how you finish. And as long as you're breathing, it's not too late to make things right. David Dusek David Dusek's mission is to encourage and equip men to live their lives for Christ. He is an author, speaker, and the founder of Rough Cut Men Ministries. David resides in Florida with his wife and has five adult children and two grandchildren. Key Quotes 4:47 - "Isolation is the linchpin to everything. The enemy of our souls gets us by ourselves. He does it on purpose. He knows if I can get this guy by himself, I can rack him, his marriage, the kids, and the legacy that comes after him. All you got to do is go after one guy and make him feel so defeated when he looks in the mirror, first thing in the morning, and he faces his own worst enemy, that he stays isolated because of embarrassment. This is another reason why we don't connect with men. There's something in our lives we're completely embarrassed by. We're disappointed in ourselves, and we know that everybody around us, if they could see in through the wall we have up, they would be disappointed too. And so in order to not disappoint, we just don't go all in. Because that takes transparency. That takes putting it out there and trusting that someone will walk us through it or help us get through it and not burn us in the process." 25:32 - "We have to do that reset every day because we have bad days at work. We have bad phone calls. We get bad phone calls literally on the way home. When we pull in the garage, we've got to breathe long enough to say they don't deserve this. They deserve my best. Because if we die, they will not be talking about us at the office, but they will be talking about us around the table at Thanksgiving and the legacy that we leave behind doesn't matter at work, it matters at home. So we need to breathe. Just stop. Breathe. And like you said, I am about ready to walk into the most important meeting of the day. I don't care if you met the president, you were, the one you're going into after work, that's the one that matters the most." Catherine Gray, host of Invest In Her, talks with Sarah Dusek, a venture capitalist and co-founder of EnygmanVentures, a venture capital fund. She invests in women-led businesses in Southern Africa, creates solutions to wealth disparity, and provides access to capital for women. In 2017, after successfully selling her company, Under Canvas, for more than $100 million, Sarah launched Enygma Ventures. In that same year, Under Canvas received a spot on the coveted Inc. 5000 list, and Sarah was named to Ernst & Young's EY Entrepreneurial Winning Women list. Sarah began her career in the nonprofit world in her early twenties working in Southern Africa and Southeast Asia. After almost eight years, she became disillusioned with the lack of change resulting from her efforts. She realized that the most effective vehicle for driving change and solving big world problems is business. Businesses are sustainable solutions to problems. They drive economies, create self-sufficiencies, and change our world. Business can, and should, be a force for good. Today, Sarah offers online courses for early-stage entrepreneurs (hosted at www.pranary.com). Over the past year, five thousand entrepreneurs have gone through her programs to become investor-ready and learn how to build valuable companies. She is a regular contributor to Forbes.com, The Telegraph, and TRT World. She is also chairwoman of the Women's Giving Circle for The Global Good Fund, a social entrepreneurship leadership development program, and sits on the board of ten (and rising) startup companies in Southern Africa, as well as Under Canvas. Sarah has an LLB Law degree from Exeter University, UK, and an MA from University of Manchester in Missiology. “Under Canvas had been a very light footprint, very ecologically sound, sustainable business. But we realized there was another step - we could also build a regenerative company. And that's what we're trying to do now with our newest company, Few and Far, which is create an extraordinary five star experience, but at the same time, invest in the land, restore the land, regenerate the area in which we are at work, rather than being a business that is just trying to do no harm. And that's the difference.” We're in great company with Sarah Dusek, the Founder, along with her husband, Jacob, of Under Canvas, the premier outdoor hospitality company with glamping resorts outside of National Parks across America. Their newest adventure takes them farther into their search for a sustainable solution to travel than ever before. Listen in, as Sarah and Jacob put their decade of experience, numerous awards and accolades to good use on their newest adventure. Top Takeaways [2:10] Sarah & Jacob's love story began in the Far East when they discovered they both had very different feelings towards nature - Jacob in search of the rough and tough wilderness and Sarah preferring the more accessible enjoyment of her surroundings. [7:15] How Sarah & Jacob cracked the code to “glamping”, reimagining a luxury safari experience in the natural wonders of the United States, with the creation of Under Canvas. [11:15] It was a Field of Dreams moment of reassuring themselves, “if we build it, they will come,” when they opened their first light impact, minimally resourced tented hotel experience outside of Yellowstone National Park. [12:45] “I wanted people to experience the magic of the stillness that exists in nature when you are able to hear yourself think.” [18:40] Always ready for a new adventure, Sarah & Jacob are taking their latest nature immersive experiences a step further with Few & Far, rewilding, reforesting, repairing and restoring denigrated areas of wilderness to their pristine potential while redefining luxury hospitality at its roots. [23:20] You can be one of the first to stay in their soon to open Luvhondo Lodge in South Africa, bearing witness to more biodiversity at the foothills of the Soutpansberg Mountains than is found on the entire continent of Europe. [26:50] Experience a safari stay unlike any other - with cliffside canvas clad suites, fine dining experiences out in the bush, aerial safari tours in solar cable cars, and active adventures among the wildlife. [29:20] How traveling with Few & Far on their carbon neutral, ecologically sensitive and sustainable excursions spanning the Americas, Europe, Africa and Asia, can teach us about ourselves, these places and the people we meet along the way. [31:55] “We often think about travel as being a luxury if we spend huge amounts of money on travel, that actually that's indulgent, it's excessive. But I also know that my travel dollars really matter.” Hear Sarah share a profound story that shows this to be true. Sarah Dusek and her husband started Under Canvass, which offered large-scale tented hotels (think “glamping”) outside national parks around the U.S. The business got off to a successful start, and within five years, Dusek had four locations, which were collectively generating $3 million in EBITDA. Rather than sit still, Dusek decided she wanted to grow much larger and raised $16 million of capital made up of a combination of equity and mezzanine debt at a rate of 13%, which Dusek personally guaranteed. The stress of having her entire net worth tied to her business eventually caught up to Dusek, and she decided to sell a majority stake of her business to a private equity group (KSL Capital). Dusek rolled 25% of her equity and stayed on as CEO. By the time she stepped down from her leadership role, Under Canvass was worth more than $100 million.

When this drops we will be in the arctic circle exploring a part of Alaska you can't drive. If weather cooperates we'll be visiting 2 more National Parks. This week also marks 6 months of travel on our family gap year. I brought my husband back on the show to talk through how we got here. He referred to this as a mid-life retirement and I loved that analogy. Much of our family gap year is an experiment in doing life differently. He shares more about his travel back story, how the gap year came about, how we are funding it and what he is learning through the process. If you want to know even more, I suggest picking up a copy of my book, Beyond Normal (linked in the show notes). Our guest today rarely sits still, enjoys strong coffee and can fix just about anything. He wasn't born wanderlust or with the same amount of spontaneity as his wife, but together they have crafted an adventurous life with three kids. Brent Dusek is Mr. Ordinary Sherpa who takes more black diamond trails, my co-pilot, and most often seen in the driver seat of our RV while traversing North America.
