Hey there, In today's episode I discuss the top 3 things you should consider when job searching. In order to set yourself apart from your competition you have to be strategic and methodical in this current climate. You also want to ensure that where you are applying makes the best sense for you and your career goals. Let me know what you think of the discussion. xo, Kelli
Hi there, In this episode I share three key components that you can put into play right now to start attracting job opportunities to you. Right now, if you are searching for opportunities you are probably doing these three things: 1)Going to a job board 2)Submitting your resume 3)Receiving an email acknowledging that your resume was received & 4) Waiting on someone to call you. The unfortunate reality is, no one calls. So you repeat the same scenario over again 1) Go to job board 2) Submit resume 3)Receive email 4) Wait on a call. I get asked all the time, "Kelli, what am I doing wrong". Honestly, you're not doing anything WRONG, you're just using an old method. Now, if I wasn't currently recruiting and having my finger on the pulse of what's going on in the industry, it would look like things keep changing. Well, you're right, they are! Business is not the same, the way you go out to eat is not the same, the way you interact is not the same, so why would applying to a job be any different. As a recruiter and career coach I get to see all sides of the coin, I get to see the job seekers perspective, hiring manager's perspective and the recruiters perspective. I'm sharing the 3 key elements to setting yourselves apart from the competition and how you can attract opportunities to you without submitting resumes. This is a strategy that I have been working on for a few months that I want to share with you. Take a listen. If you want to learn more, feel free to email me at info@careersbykelli.com xo, Kelli
I was recently in an interview discussing soft skills(I think I touched on this in another episode also). In the interview, I mentioned that one of the soft skills that is gaining a lot of traction is, Growth Mindset. So where did this term come from anyway?? Over 30 years ago, Carol Dweck and her colleagues became interested in students' attitudes about failure. They noticed that some students rebounded while other students seemed devastated by even the smallest setbacks. After studying the behavior of thousands of children, Dr. Dweck coined the terms fixed mindset and growth mindset to describe the underlying beliefs people have about learning and intelligence. When students believe they can get smarter, they understand that effort makes them stronger. Therefore they put in extra time and effort, and that leads to higher achievement. This term has become a core competency in several fortune 100 companies and it's determining whether or not you get interviews and more importantly, jobs! In this episode, I list 25 ways to develop a growth mindset and ways to use this when being asked by hiring managers or recruiters. Take a listen.
Recruiters have anywhere from 50 to 200 job openings at one time. With that being said, the window to actually “review” resumes is very small. In today's podcast, I talk about why you should keep your resume simple and concise. Take a listen
