AP's Lisa Dwyer reports that remote work is affecting the jobless rate for young people.

As the unemployment crisis in the country appears to be deepening, with young people bearing the brunt of this graduates are not spared. Youth unemployment in country is at a staggering 45.8 percent meaning 4.7 million young people across the country are not participating meaningfully in the economy. The Letsoalo Global is launching a digital activation campaign aimed at putting the spotlight on the severe socio-economic challenges currently faced by South African university graduates. "I don't know where to go, I don't know what to do, to afford living and pay the bills." That's the message from those who are still unemployed in Wellington after going through a round of government job cuts in the public sector two years ago. Last week, the government announced that nearly 9000 public servants are in line to lose their jobs over the next three years. It follows experts saying with more people facing long-term unemployment, there comes the risk of higher rates of anxiety and depression. Bella Craig reports.

2. Guest Author: James Shapiro James Shapiro explains how Hollywood's dominance decimated local theaters, leaving countless actors unemployed by the 1930s. To address this, Harry Hopkins recruited Hallie Flanagan, an experimental theater professor, to lead the Federal Theater Project. Flanagan treated the arts as a federally supported industry, eventually employing 12,000 workers and staging 10,000 productions across 29 states. One-fourth of the American population saw these plays, often for free. The project also established "Negro Units" to develop Black talent and reach underserved communities, involving figures like Rose McClendon and John Houseman. (2)1916
