The Trailer Music Composer's Podcast is a truly exceptional show that manages to be both super epic and insanely therapeutic at the same time. Hosted by the expert, award-winning composer Rich, this podcast offers a wealth of information and delivers masterclass material for anyone interested in trailer music composition or the music industry in general. The show is immensely inspiring and eye-opening, providing valuable insights and advice for those wanting to break into this industry.

One of the best aspects of The Trailer Music Composer's Podcast is the way Rich discusses the mental obstacles that composers have to overcome. He addresses issues such as overcoming the inner critic and learning to write fast without second-guessing oneself. This concept has been life-changing for many listeners, including myself, as it helps reignite their passion for their creative craft. Rich's positive outlook on things is refreshing and his teaching style is excellent, making each episode feel like hanging out with an old friend.

Another great aspect of this podcast is its applicability beyond trailer music composition. Many listeners have found that the fundamental problems Rich has had to overcome in creating trailer music align with so many other creative endeavors. Whether you're a filmmaker, video game composer, or have any other creative job, you can benefit from the insights shared in this podcast. The structure of a trailer cue, for example, can also be applied when asking your boss for a raise or keeping people's interest in various situations.

As for drawbacks, it's difficult to find any major faults with The Trailer Music Composer's Podcast. Some episodes may not cater to everyone's specific interests if they are not involved in trailer music composition or related fields. However, even if you're not aiming specifically to be a trailer composer, you'll still be highly entertained by Rich and learn a ton from his experiences and expertise.

In conclusion, The Trailer Music Composer's Podcast is an insightful and captivating show hosted by a great composer and teacher. It has the power to make listeners fall in love with the world of trailer music and reignite their passion for any creative craft. Whether you're a media composer or someone who simply appreciates great insights and valuable advice, this podcast is a must-listen. Additionally, it serves as an excellent add-on to Rich's Trailer Music School, offering even more valuable content and entertainment.

In this episode I show you how I composed the track ‘Monument' that was featured in the trailer for the Netflix show, Archive 81.This track was one of the ten tracks written for Elephant Music's album, Throat 4.The focus of this album was to bring throat singing to the fore and let vocals replace the cello that had become so popular.I sketched out the entire album using only my voice and then slowly replaced those parts with other instruments and we even got a throat singer in to really hammer home that sound.I really enjoyed writing this album as it felt so fresh and exciting.

In this episode I talk about feeling like I had lost my passion for writing music and how I re-ignited my spark.Recently, maybe even over the last couple of years, I have been feeling a bit meh about writing music.I didn't really want to openly admit it, especially on my show/blog, but as you know I think being open about these types of struggles we all face is incredibly important to keep the mental dialogue open.I have felt like I have just been running through the motions. It wasn't until I had the help and advice of some of my colleagues and fellow composers that I realised that I needed to get myself excited about writing music again. In this episode I show you what tools I used and how they can help you to get you excited about your creative process again.I really do hope it helps.

In today's episode I take you behind the scenes of a track of mine that was used in the trailer for Netflix's special, Britney vs Spears. The track was a track I wrote for a two album release from Mammoth. The albums were solely epic drum intros aimed at action comedy trailers. The effect of each track was to give the editors percussive tracks that started small, gave them good cut points, and also supplied enough drive and impact to create enough drama for their trailers.I really enjoyed writing all of these 20 tracks and as this track was one of the first I was really happy to see it land on this trailer. I am also a huge fan of Britney Spears, so doubly awesome really.—If you want to know how to craft the perfect trailer cue then you can download the FREE PDF here.

Why bother using "trailerised" impacts and hits

In this episode of the podcast I talk about why it's important to use big trailer hits in your trailer music. This goes back to something I am always saying to students, “Trailer music is about character, build, and impact”. Yes, you guessed it, these hits take you one step closer to getting that impact that you need. Why do you even need impact? We are dealing with stories. These stories are usually set against a larger world. We as composers are representing these stories and struggles in our music so we also have to give the viewers/listeners a sense of these large tales. These big hits supply the sense of something bigger. Something larger than life.I go into more detail about this and how you can even use hits to speed up your writing.Start your journey in Trailer Music
