Dear readers, I've been a sceptic for too long. It's easy to be sceptical as a psychiatrist—the flowers will be lour'd upon you! I've been using Graymatter's Health PRISM EEG-fMRI neurofeedback system for a few years, it's true. There are EEG leads on there. I saw a lot of EEG-related technology in Beijing. It's possible I'm looking at an EEG in this very photo from my hotel room in China, below:But have I been measuring the brain with EEG regularly? Well, no, again! I've been content with my fancy fMRI scans alone, for SAINT, and giant brain healing magnets at set frequencies, like deep TMS with SWIFT.There are even videos of me talking about TMS, like this one below, with friends like Colleen Hanlon from BrainsWay, and heroic patients who chose to speak publicly, too.But one thing I haven't routinely done is measure the brain itself as part of clinical care, as companies like Firefly Neuroscience are making possible. That may need to change, is the outcome in my personal brain as a result of this interview. I speak, at length, with Dave Decaprio, their president and COO.The EVOKE system provides multimodal analysis of brain function, including Quantitative EEG and Event-Related Potentials. From the Firefly website:At Firefly Neuroscience, our technology is built to measure and interpret brain function in a clinically meaningful way. The Evoke™ system combines quantitative EEG (qEEG) and event-related potentials (ERP) to capture both baseline brain activity and cognitive response during structured tasks.This data is analyzed against a proprietary normative database of over 191,000 EEG and ERP sessions, allowing clinicians to evaluate patterns relative to age-matched expectations and track changes over time. The result is a structured, interpretable view of brain function that can be used alongside clinical evaluation to support earlier insight, more informed treatment decisions, and a clearer understanding of patient progress.I haven't used it in clinical practice yet, but Dave makes a compelling case, and at this point I think it's only a matter of time. Yes both games were on at the same time, same day, same city which wasn't ideal but what was, was the All Black putting on a clinical performance on one side of town and the WAHS continuing their road to the NRL finals on the other side of town!... It was a good weekend to love sports!... Jordan has been hit with a confronting realisation, that he may have just bitten off more than he can chew... but he has to see it through!... But the most captivating thing about this documentary series for me was the strength and fortitude of a mother desperately seeking to rescue her beloved daughter. Catherine and India Oxenberg's story was one that gripped me the entire time, and I was rooting for them vehemently - mother to mother - energetically. Cut to several months later: I get a DM on Instagram from Catherine. The moment India was safe, Catherine fell horribly ill with excruciating nerve pain. This is so typical of TMS! She received many diagnoses, and no medication was touching the symptoms. She found mindbody work, mercifully, and began her healing journey. We've kept in touch over the years, and Catherine has emerged from this harrowing journey totally chronic pain free! Freight procurement is still stuck in a world of portals, spreadsheets, and three-month RFP cycles, even though the freight market can flip in weeks. I'm joined by Ryan Soskin, CEO and founder of GoodShip, to unpack why that gap creates expensive surprises for shippers and impossible commitments for brokers and carriers. Ryan's career arc from Coyote Logistics to Convoy gives him a rare view of both execution on the ground and what it takes to build automation that actually works at scale. We get specific about what breaks contract freight pricing: most bids share only origin, destination, volume, and equipment type, while real truckload economics depend on lead time, seasonality, days of week, facility hours, and constraints that never make it into the RFP. That missing context fuels winner's curse, fragile routing guides, tender rejection spikes, and more spot market exposure. From there, we connect procurement to performance management and the need for a shared source of truth, so QBRs stop turning into arguments about on-time definitions and start turning into decisions. Ryan also introduces the idea of network drift: even a “perfect” annual routing guide drifts away from optimal as rates, volumes, and carrier performance change. In this episode, we kick things off in South Texas, where developers are building a massive new rail infrastructure project designed to transform Laredo from purely a trucking gateway into a true multimodal freight hub. Following authorization from the Surface Transportation Board, Kraus Development and Ironhorse Resources plan to construct the two point six-mile Laredo Gateway Industrial Railway, connecting Gateway International Rail Park directly to Union Pacific's Laredo Subdivision. With capacity for more than twelve thousand railcars annually—potentially representing the equivalent of roughly sixty-two thousand truckloads—this short-line railroad will serve a sprawling industrial park in a border crossing that already processes between fourteen thousand and eighteen thousand commercial trucks every day and accounts for nearly thirty-nine percent of all U.S.-Mexico trade by value. Next, we explore the technology sector, where Trimble is aggressively expanding its product lineup with a brand-new transportation management system built directly from its massive European acquisition. The company has officially launched Trimble TMS for Shippers, a product that grew out of its twenty twenty-two acquisition of Europe's Transporeon for just under two billion dollars. Rather than forcing shippers to rip out existing systems, the new TMS offering uses a modular, cafeteria-style approach where customers can bolt on specific features like freight procurement, rate management, or carrier tendering to their current infrastructure and only pay for what they need. Finally, we cover a workforce development proposal in Florida that has hit a major roadblock as Governor Ron DeSantis vetoed a bill that would have allowed CDL training for certain state prisoners. The bill, which passed both houses of the Florida legislature with no opposition, was part of a larger vocational training measure targeting nonviolent inmates with two years or less remaining on their sentence. In his veto letter, DeSantis cited the program would be unnecessarily burdensome to the Department of Corrections and raised significant public safety concerns about authorizing incarcerated individuals to operate commercial vehicles in public thoroughfares.
