The 77-year-old composer was chosen based on his artistic merit in music composition. Ung says he owes his success to his own Cambodian identity. It is my culture. It's what I learned it from the rice field that I spoke of. What touches me the most and I think I am proud to say that I am a Cambodian. Ung got a scholarship to study clarinet in the U.S. in 1964, and later received a Doctor of Musical Arts from Columbia University in 1974. His music is known for incorporating Eastern characteristics into Western classical settings. In spirit my music yes does carry the background of the culture in Cambodia. Without that background, I wouldn't be able to compose, let's say, Inner Voices. The twenty-minute award-winning piece Inner Voices was Ung's second orchestral work following a hiatus between 1974 and 1985. Ung turned his attention to the rescue of surviving relatives and the rebuilding of the editions of Cham court music. In 1989, Inner Voices made him the first American to win the prestigious Grammy Award.1989年,《内心的声音》让他成为首位获得久负盛名的格莱美奖的美国人。Ung said the piece was his attempt to embrace the expressions of many cultures in a singular musical language, and he got the inspiration from a dream. In the dream I thought I had receive an invitation to attend a ritual, and I heard the chanting about a text在梦里,我觉得自己收到了参加一场仪式的邀请,我听到有人在念诵一段经文,that this young Cambodian lady, a teenager, decided to commit suicide, and left that text to her parent to set it into music, into song, funeral song, during her funeral. Tapping into his dream to compose Inner Voices only employed what he calls the interaction within himself to create an art that speaks to a global audience. You are not only looking outward and what could be learned and so forth, but don't forget that another 50% is the intangible. It is your feeling, which is not yours when you go deeper, you hit on archetype of dimension and so forth, and that could be share globally. Today Ung is a distinguished professor of music at University of California San Diego, and works to preserve and innovate Cambodian traditional music.

American folk singer-songwriter Annahstasia's music career blossomed since the day she got kicked out of her teenage choir. Her voice didn't blend homogenously with others, as it always meant to stand out. Today, with her soulful contralto register, she often gets compared to the greats like Nina Simone, Tracy Chapman, and Sade. But the way she utilizes her voice and songwriting melds a distinct brand of her own.  As a storyteller, Annahstasia doesn't worry too much about predictable song structures with repeatable sections. Instead, she invites her collaborators and listeners into her safe space to participate as a communal sonic atmosphere begins to take shape. Like an “energy doula”, she approaches the dynamics in her music with the utmost care, birthing not only words and musical notes but also volumes of emotion. Sometimes, her melodies and harmonies are tethered so tightly to silence that you might miss them if you're not listening closely. Then, they burst out again, like a thunderstorm that came out of nowhere to grasp your attention and never let go. Offering an inimitable aural experience, Annahstasia performs a solo set at our Manhattan studios for this edition of Soundcheck, ahead of her sold-out four-night residency at Public Records in Brooklyn. Hear her latest anecdotes about her journey in the music industry and how she defends the art of live music recording in the age of bedroom pop productions. (- Sırma Munyar) Setlist: 1. Be Kind 2. From Miley's "Wrecking Ball" to The Weeknd's "Earned It" to his own successful instrumental albums, Oscar and Grammy nominated songwriter, composer and producer Stephen Moccio gives opens up on his creative process. PART ONEPaul and Scott share some of your submissions for favorite lyric lines, as well as lyrics that bug you from songs you otherwise love. In addition, they pay tribute to past Songcraft guests JD Souther and Billy Edd Wheeler, who both recently passed away. PART TWOOur in-depth conversation with Stephen Moccio.  ABOUT STEPHAN MOCCIOStephan Moccio is an Oscar-nominated composer and a three-time Grammy-nominated songwriter and producer. His breakthrough came when fellow Canadian Celine Dion's recording of “A New Day Has Come” made history by topping the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart for 21 weeks. He went on to release Exposure, his first solo album as an artist, which hit the Canadian Top 10 and was certified Gold. Since then, Moccio has balanced his creative efforts between releasing his own projects and working behind the scenes writing for other artists. Highlights of Stephan's career include co-writing “I Believe” for the Vancouver Winter Olympics in 2010 and co-writing and co-producing Miley Cyrus's multiplatinum international hit “Wrecking Ball.” Additionally, he collaborated with The Weeknd on “Earned It,” the end-credits song for Fifty Shades of Gray, which earned the rare RIAA Diamond certification and was nominated for an Academy Award. Stephan has also written songs for Andrea Bocelli, Avril Lavigne, Dua Lipa, James Blunt, Seal, and many more, notching seven Billboard Hot 100 hits and tallying 5 billion streams and counting. Among his solo material, 2020's Tales of Solace yielded the single “Fracture,” what has generated over 100 million streams on Spotify. His latest release is Legends, Myths and Lavender, which was composed and recorded on the spot in the South of France.

Please subscribe, follow, and like this podcast so that I can reach as many artists as possible.Thank you , Mike Redmanelenamaro.comThe ratio of successful female composers to male composers is approximately four to one. I'm not sure why that is because if you listen to the music that they create Trailers,Straight ahead film scores, action, drama, you name it the only difference is creativity and style … which is not gender specific.AND if a score requires great sensitivity, female composers at least in my opinion win hands-down. Elena Mary is an extraordinary composer and her energy and dedication should be an inspiration to anyone considering this field of work and a career as a Music Composer. Interestingly enough, Elena Maro is  also married  Marco Antonini  another rising star composer on the Hollywood music scene. Dario discusses the significance of constantly acquiring new instruments and plugins to stay inspired and invigorate his creative process. He highlights his preference for tactile interaction with real instruments, which often sparks new ideas and unique sounds that samples cannot replicate. Additionally, the episode explores Dario's experimental EP "Anomaly," a purely artistic project blending organic and synthetic elements, showcasing his ability to push creative boundaries without commercial constraints. He emphasizes the value of collaboration, working with lyricists and other musicians to enhance his projects and bring out the best in each endeavor.
