Nolan Stolz is a composer, scholar, drummer, and music professor living in Spartanburg, SC. Born in Milwaukee, WI, Stolz grew up in Las Vegas, NV, where he worked as a freelance jazz drummer for several years. Today, he is a Professor of Music at the University of South Carolina Upstate, where he teaches composition, music theory, and popular music studies. Although firmly rooted in the contemporary classical tradition, his compositions are influenced by his performance background in jazz and rock. Fanfare Magazine called his Lincoln Highway Suite for orchestra a “brilliant piece of Americana. . .a piece of inspiration and skill,” saying that the “orchestration is brilliantly managed” and “Stolz has a fine repository of [melodies] in his back pocket.” The Brno Philharmonic's recording of that work (on Orchestral Masters, Vol. 5) was awarded second place in the American Prize in 2020. Other studio recordings include Princess Ka‘iulani for flute on SCI's Modes album, Catharsis II for piano quartet on Millennial Masters Vol. 3, Lullaby for Sam for guitar on Aaron Larget-Caplan's New Lullaby, and several others. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/experimentalfilmpodcast/support

Send us a Text Message.Hi everybody, welcome to GIG I'm your host Mike Redman. Please subscribe, follow, and like this podcast so that I can reach as many artists as possible.Thank you , Mike Redmanelenamaro.comThe ratio of successful female composers to male composers is approximately four to one. I'm not sure why that is because if you listen to the music that they create Trailers,Straight ahead film scores, action, drama, you name it the only difference is creativity and style … which is not gender specific.AND if a score requires great sensitivity, female composers at least in my opinion win hands-down. Elena Mary is an extraordinary composer and her energy and dedication should be an inspiration to anyone considering this field of work and a career as a Music Composer. Interestingly enough, Elena Maro is also married Marco Antonini another rising star composer on the Hollywood music scene. I do a spotlight on sound mixer-turned-music composer Sean Callery. How many catchy tunes are on the 24 TV show soundtrack? Is his videogame cover of the James Bond theme still one of the best takes on the iconic tune? Why did Jessica Jones & La Femme Nikita get a soundtrack release yet Designated Survivor, Homeland, Bones & Halo still don't have any tracks available to stream? All that and why he's got some nifty movie scores cooking lately! If you were watching TV in the 1980s you're probably familiar with the sounds of electronic music pioneer Suzanne Ciani, whose synthesizer compositions became the sonic logos for Coca-Cola, Atari, GE, PBS and dozens of other brands. Ciani has gone on to cultivate new audiences through her quadraphonic concerts that she produces using an updated version of the same synthesizer that she played as a student at UC Berkeley in the late-1960s, the Buchla 200E. We'll talk with Ciani about her career, how California inspires her and hear excerpts from her upcoming concert series that celebrates the 40th anniversary of her breakthrough album “Seven Waves.”

Leeds-based Italian-born artist Stella Wembley began her musical career in Italy as a soprano while studying opera at the Royal Conservatory of Music "San Pietro a Majella" in Naples. Upon graduating, she found limited opportunities on the Italian music scene, she moved to London in 2017, where she found inspiration and avenues as a musician, performing at venues in Leeds, Blackpool and London. She is a vocalist, lyricist, composer, music producer and video director. She released her 'Wasting My Time' EP, a four-track release of sheer electro-goth delight surrounding the track 'Wasting My Time'. The loop- and arpeggio-driven synth backdrop feeds a retro new-wave vibe, and the catchy chorus underlines multiple conflicting sensations from dark melancholy to fiery self-expression, while exploring the esoteric and mystical and ultimately death, rebirth and destiny. Wembley has collaborated and performed with Lloyd Price (The Frixion), Auger, Inkubus Sukkubus, Zeitgeist Zero, Last July, Rome Burns and Machine Rox. Stella is currently working on her new album "The Alchemy of the Dark Arts'," which will feature Michael Ciravolo (a.k.a. Beauty In Chaos) on guitar.https://stellawembley.comQUEEN OF WANDS with DJ NOCTURNAEvery Saturday on ModSnap Radio | KMOD: San Antonio3pm (HST), 5pm (PST), 6pm (MST), 7pm (CST), 8pm (EST)THANK YOU for your continued support.Follow me on my other social media sites :Website: https://djnocturna.comRadio: : https://modsnapradio.com Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/nocturna.remixed/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/djnocturna/Twitter: https://twitter.com/djnocturnaTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@dj.nocturna

Episode 693 I always enjoy talking with those within the film world. I find their stories fascinating. I have spoken with dozens of actors, and directors, and writers over the years but not so many composers, those geniuses that create the music that help build the film world we give ourselves over to for a couple of hours. I thoroughly enjoyed sitting down with composer Ross Power whose most recent work can be hear in the new film Rise of the Footsoldier:Vengeance. Ross previously worked with the films director Nick Nevern in Rise of the Footsoldier: Origins and they worked so well together, Ross was back for the follow up film. Enjoy! If you've ever watched a movie, you've heard music from John Williams. He's one of the greatest classical music composers of the last 100 years and one of America's most accomplished musicians. His music has won 5 Oscars, 25 Grammys, and four Golden Globes. The only person with more Academy Award nominations is Walt Disney himself. The list of movies he's written to the music to is practically a guide to American cinema: ET, Indiana Jones, Harry Potter, Home Alone, Jaws, Jurassic Park, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Superman, Star Wars. Should I continue? He also wrote the music for the Olympics, Sunday Night Football, On this episode of Prisoners of Rock and Roll, we're going to mix it up and take a look at the music of John Williams.
