What does it really take to become an exceptional technical diver? In episode 123 of Speaking Sidemount brought to you by XDEEP, I sit down with my long-time mentor and friend Tom Steiner, founder of Gozo Technical Diving, to explore the philosophy that has shaped thousands of technical divers over nearly four decades. I first trained with Tom in Gozo, Malta, in 2015–16, completing my Technical Sidemount Instructor, Normoxic Trimix, Full Cave, Advanced Gas Blender and Open Water Instructor qualifications before working for him as an instructor. Many of the standards I teach today were forged during that time. With more than 17,000 dives and thousands of students trained, Tom shares why experience always outweighs certifications, how attitude determines success, why technical diving isn't necessarily about going deeper, and the lessons he's learned from a lifetime spent underwater. We also discuss:Why chasing certifications can make you a worse diver What separates good divers from exceptional diversBuilding judgment and experienceTeamwork and attitude in technical divingSidemount vs twinsetThe evolution of technical divingGozo Technical Diving todayGreenland expedition diving and iceberg explorationHow to choose the right instructorInstructor development and teaching philosophyThe future of technical divingWhether you're a recreational diver looking to progress, an experienced technical diver, or an instructor wanting to improve your teaching, this conversation is packed with practical wisdom from one of diving's most respected educators. Thanks to our Sponsor, XDEEP - https://www.xdeep.eu Follow Tom Steiner & Gozo Technical Diving - www.gozotechnicaldiving.comTom's Video Training Series - www.tomsteiner.proTom's Recommended Reading:The Checklist Manifesto – Atul GawandeThe Art of Learning – Josh WaitzkinDeep Survivor – Laurence Gonzalez Follow Steve Davis Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/nzstevedInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/nzsteved
EVEN MORE about this episode!Have you ever had a gut feeling you ignored—only to realize later that your intuition was right all along? What if that first quiet knowing isn't random, but information your soul is already receiving?Julie Ryan sits down with spiritual teacher, intuitive healer, and Akashic Record reader Inga Kastrone to explore how intuition really works, why it often speaks before the thinking mind takes over, and what can happen when we stop second-guessing what we already know.Inga describes intuition as access to a much larger energetic field connecting us with the subconscious mind, ancestral patterns, the body, and our soul's purpose. Together, Julie and Inga explore why trauma and conditioning can disconnect us from that inner knowing—and how we can begin rebuilding trust in ourselves.Inga's own awakening took an extraordinary path. Raised in Soviet Latvia without a spiritual upbringing, she pursued an academic career in international migration law before an unmistakable intuitive message told her to go to New Orleans. During a late-night ghost tour, an encounter with a voodoo priestess became part of a spiritual turning point that eventually led Inga into Reiki, the Akashic Records, energy healing, and the work she practices today.Julie and Inga also explore Harmonic Reconnection, Inga's approach to restoring harmony after trauma and disconnection; ancestral biofields; the imaginal realm; Egyptian goddess archetypes; and what it means to become fully present in your body while remaining connected to Spirit. Most importantly, this conversation asks a question that may change how you respond the next time that quiet voice speaks:What if you don't need more answers—what if you need to trust the answer you received first? If you've ever struggled to tell the difference between intuition and fear, doubted a gut feeling, ignored an inner knowing, or wondered how to reconnect with your spiritual guidance, this episode is for you.Guest Biography:Inga Kastrone, MA, MPhil, is an energy therapist, intuitive healer, Akashic Record reader, and sacred dance teacher based on the Mediterranean island of Gozo. For more than a decade, she has worked with advanced and sensitive souls seeking a deeper sense of wholeness, embodiment, and belonging, drawing on the subconscious mind, imaginal realm, and ancestral patterns. Her search for a more grounded bridge between the spiritual and physical worlds led her to develop Harmonic Reconnection, a holistic healing modality designed to help people reconnect with themselves, live from the soul, and move through life in greater harmony with the universe.Episode Chapters:(0:00:00) Welcome & Introduction(0:01:44) Has Your Intuition Been Right All Along?(0:05:45) Why We Learn to Ignore Our Intuition(0:09:36) Intuition vs. Ego: Which Voice Are You Hearing?(0:10:47) Ancestral Energy & the Akashic Records(0:18:53) Can Healing the Present Change the Past?(0:21:14) Healing Trauma Through the Imaginal Realm(0:24:28) Can the Body Hold Ancestral Memories?(0:31:39) The Body, Intuition & the Divine Feminine(0:40:52) How Spiritual Archetypes Can Help Us Heal(0:47:49) Why Sensitive Souls Feel They Don't Belong(0:53:27) What Is Harmonic Reconnection?(0:56:18) How Inga Was Called to Spiritual Work(0:59:44) The Ghost Tour That Changed Everything(1:03:33) Can Trees & Places Hold Energetic Memories?(1:11:32) A Message From Her Father's Spirit(1:11:33) How to Start Trusting Your Intuition(1:13:21) The “My Soul, I See You” Exercise(1:13:26) Why Do We Incarnate?➡️ Subscribe to Ask Julie Ryan YouTube➡️ Julie's Intuitive Trainings✏️ Ask Julie a Question!

This week on Bad Dads Film Review, the dads head into deep space for Project Hail Mary — a Ryan Gosling-led Andy Weir adaptation about astrophage, reluctant heroism, alien engineering, musical communication and the most loveable rock-spider in modern sci-fi.What we coveredThe return to Podcast Mountain after a week off, with Sidey explaining why recent recording plans went slightly sideways.Sidey and Reegs seeing The Streets at Alexandra Palace, immediately considering Iceland, and generally having a far better time than Sidey later had in Malta.Malta being very hot, not especially relaxing, and a strong avoid unless you are on the picturesque ferry to Gozo.Family hotel movie nights, including a MonsterVerse run and the crushing parental disappointment of Raiders of the Lost Ark being switched off for being boring.Ryan Gosling news from Comic-Con, including Ghost Rider, Star Wars, and whether anyone can make Ghost Rider look good on screen.Gosling's range: Only God Forgives, Lars and the Real Girl, The Gray Man, blockbuster charm and oddball credibility.Andy Weir, The Martian, and why the dads respond to optimistic science-problem movies where clever people solve practical disasters. The central crisis: astrophage is eating the Sun's energy, reducing solar output and threatening Earth. The Hail Mary mission as humanity's last desperate throw, sent to Tau Ceti because that system appears mysteriously resistant to the astrophage problem.Ryland Grace waking from stasis with no memory, dead crewmates, a HAL-like computer and a beard that suggests deep-space personal care needs work. The flashbacks revealing Grace as a molecular biologist turned school teacher recruited by Eva Stratt to help understand astrophage. The moral ugliness of Grace not volunteering for the suicide mission, then being sedated and sent anyway after the intended crew are killed. The grim Earthside stakes: collapsing sunlight, food-chain panic, frightened children and governments handing Stratt extraordinary power.First contact with Rocky, the engineer from Erid whose own planet is facing the same astrophage disaster.Rocky's musical language, the translation process, and the dads' comparison with Close Encounters of the Third Kind. The two-ship friendship: different atmospheres, pressure barriers, xenonite tunnels and two scientists learning to trust each other through diagrams and experiments.Rocky's look: rock-like, spider-like, toy-like and somehow instantly endearing. The discovery of taumoeba, the organism that eats astrophage and offers a possible solution for both Earth and Erid.Rocky saving Grace at huge personal risk, then Grace choosing to use his remaining fuel to save Rocky when he realises Rocky's ship is in danger. The film's optimistic message: cooperation across species, cultures and worlds is the only thing that saves anyone.Grace ending up on Erid, teaching alien children about Earth, and the dads enjoying the full-circle return to teaching. The reported $200 million budget, worldwide box office heading toward $700 million, UK-built Hail Mary sets, and Gosling's likely “double bubble” as star and producer.Key moments / quotesSidey says “hopes were high for Project Hail Mary” because of the Gosling/Andy Weir pedigree.Dan explains the title through American football: the last desperate throw into the end zone. The dads note that Grace “didn't fucking volunteer”, which makes Earth's plan morally spicy even if the stakes are existential.Rocky's musical tones immediately bring Close Encounters to mind. The group enjoy the idea of a sci-fi film built around “scientist guy figuring shit out”.Cris appreciates that the film is warmer and more colourful than the bleaker spaceship sci-fi he usually struggles with.Sidey reads the Grace/Rocky relationship as a story about different worlds working together on the same problem.Cris highlights the happy ending, the little rock children and the satisfying “don't go back / actually he should go back” emotional turn.Sidey notes the film has done serious box office business against a huge production budget. The final verdict lands simply: “Strong? Strong. Strong. Yeah. Strong.”VerdictThe dads give Project Hail Mary a unanimous strong recommend. They respond to the Andy Weir problem-solving structure, Ryan Gosling's easy likeability, the film's optimistic tone, and especially Rocky — an alien sidekick/friend/co-scientist who turns the film from simple survival story into something warmer and more memorable. It is big-budget, accessible sci-fi with a hopeful streak: funny, emotional, smart enough to feel satisfying, and powered by the very Bad Dads-friendly idea that cooperation beats panic, even when the Sun is being eaten. You can now text us anonymously to leave feedback, suggest future content or simply hurl abuse at us. Sigue avanzando. Sigue creyendo. Sigue acercándote a Jesús. Tu situación actual no determina tu futuro cuando decides poner tu fe en Cristo. 3.

Philippa and Katie cover the week in Ambridge so far - Sunday 19th to Tuesday 21st July - and the theme of the week is spectacularly clear: nobody in Ambridge is talking to anybody properly.Rex is moving in with Alice without any discussion about money, children, or who is going to cook. Chris finds out via Fallon rather than Alice. Harrison and Fallon are barely communicating and the awards ceremony could be the moment everything falls apart. Fallon hasn't told Jolene she wants to leave the Bull. And nobody has told Martha she might be going to Gozo.Elizabeth returns and there is apparently an event space being renovated at Lower Loxley — which came as news to us. Alan reappears. Bert has his first shift at the village shop and is surprisingly good value. And people are charging five pounds to get into the Ambridge fete.Plus: thoughts on the Barn event space and what it means for Brookfield, Carol and Alan's very odd moment, whether Bert is the new Jim, and a plea for absolutely nothing to happen during the two week summer break.Back on Wednesday 13th August.Topics covered: Rex Fairbrother | Alice Carter | Chris Carter | Harrison Burns | Fallon Rogers | Elizabeth Pargetter | Bert Horrobin | Susan Carter | Alan Franks | The Archers July 2026 Hosted on Acast.
