Google Richard James Burgess. Trust me. His list of accomplishments, inventions, innovations, businesses, etc is long. We focus on his production career here and it barely scratches the surface. He started out in the late 70s as the frontman for a quirky synthpop band called Landscape that had a couple hits in the UK. He quickly went into production work starting with the first couple Spandau Ballet albums and then became a go-to guy for vibrant pop music with a dance accents and an r&b angle. His credits during this time include King, Living in a Box, Adam Ant, Kim Wilde, Shreikback, When in Rome and straight r&b with Five Star, New Edition and Imagination. Legends like Kate Bush and Thomas Dolby are in there too. He's an extremely interesting guy with a great musical resume. Enjoy! www.patreon.com/thehustlepod

Acts 6:8-15 ESV 8 And Stephen, full of grace and power, was doing great wonders and signs among the people. 9 Then some of those who belonged to the synagogue of the Freedmen (as it was called), and of the Cyrenians, and of the Alexandrians, and of those from Cilicia and Asia, rose up and disputed with Stephen. 10 But they could not withstand the wisdom and the Spirit with which he was speaking. 11 Then they secretly instigated men who said, “We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses and God.” 12 And they stirred up the people and the elders and the scribes, and they came upon him and seized him and brought him before the council, 13 and they set up false witnesses who said, “This man never ceases to speak words against this holy place and the law, 14 for we have heard him say that this Jesus of Nazareth will destroy this place and will change the customs that Moses delivered to us.” 15 And gazing at him, all who sat in the council saw that his face was like the face of an angel. ADAMANT YET ANGELIC One of the first deacons, Stephen was a Hellenist-Jew with unique traits. He was tough in his words but tender in his looks. He was adamant as a preacher but angelic in his appearance. The synagogue of the Freedmen (as it was called), and of the Cyrenians, and of the Alexandrians, and of those from Cilicia and Asia, rose up and disputed with Stephen. But they could not withstand the wisdom and the Spirit with which he was speaking. As Elijah was to Jezebel's prophets so was Stephen against these Jews from all over the region. He is "of good repute, full of the Spirit and of wisdom" (Acts 6:3) Definitely, His wisdom was from above. His enemies ran out of reason against him. This enhanced Stephen's opponents to initiate among the people a mob. That the people would be mad and kill him. They said, “We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses and God.” And they stirred up the people and the elders and the scribes, and they came upon him and seized him and brought him before the council. They accused Stephen, saying he wants to see the temple destroyed. Moreover, they set up false witnesses who said, “This man never ceases to speak words against this holy place and the law, for we have heard him say that this Jesus of Nazareth will destroy this place and will change the customs that Moses delivered to us.” Stephen's apologetical prowess couldn't be questioned. But, the people were not ready to hear. In such a case, these Hellenists lied to themselves and others to justify their desire to reject the gospel. The gospel can either soften or harden the hearts of men. Jesus had prepared the disciples for this, telling them to shake the dust off their feet when leaving those who refuse to listen (Mat 10:14). More seriously, He warned them that those who would reject His message would persecute them someday (John 15:18–19). Even then, they must not only be tough but non-vindictive to their oppressors. A lesson learned is to let the message of the gospel offend not our attitude. -------------------- Visit and FOLLOW Gospel Light Filipino on YouTube, Facebook and Instagram

Phil Collins was everywhere in the 1980s. He had more top forty singles in the US than any other artist: fourteen as a solo artist and eleven with Genesis, along with two number one solo albums, plus twenty-five solo or group hit singles and eight number one albums in the UK.Collins also recorded with a diverse list of artists including Peter Gabriel, John Martyn, Frida, Robert Plant, Mike Oldfield, Marti Webb, Al Di Meola, Adam Ant, Eric Clapton, Phil Bailey, Band Aid, Marilyn Martin, Paul McCartney, Tina Turner, Chaka Khan and Tears for Fears - another thirty-five albums or singles, many of which were massive global hits.He also found time to tour with Robert Plant and Eric Clapton in addition to his extensive concert duties with Genesis and as a solo artist. He also performed at Live Aid - at both concerts. That's around six hundred live concerts in total between 1980 and 1989. There's no doubt that the guy had a busy decade.Amidst the overwhelming commercial success and ahead of any other career plan, Phil Collins was a musician. His ubiquity between 1980 and 1989 hides ten years of magnificent music, and this book examines Phil's musical output through these ten tumultuous years.Andrew Wild is a writer, music collector and film buff with many books to his name, including recent publications about Queen, Pink Floyd, Dire Straits and Crosby, Stills and Nash and two books on “Eric Clapton: Every Album, Every Song” and his most recent “Eric Clapton Sessions”. His comprehensive study of every song recorded and performed by the Beatles between 1957 and 1970 was published by Sonicbond in 2019. This week were back to share the story of punk icon Jordan. Born Pamela Rooke, Jordan was always an original. Combining her passion for dance, music and fashion led her to Kings Road where she got a job working with Vivienne Westwood and Malcolm McLaren at their iconic store SEX. It was there she sparked inspiration into everyone who entered, becoming muse to musicians, filmmakers and fashion designers alike. From starring in films such as Jubilee, to making onstage appearances with the Sex Pistols and Adam Ant, Jordan was at the epicentre of it all. Filmmaker Derek Jarman said it best... "As far as I was concerned Jordan was original. everyone else in the fashion side follows on from her. Even Vivienne and the shop because with Jordan the shop wouldn't have worked. She was the original Sex Pistol. everyone else came in and saw Jordan dressed up and the attitude and it took off from there. She was the godfather, godmother, if you like. She was the purest example of them all" Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

For the first time on The Merry Menopause Bookclub podcast, I've chosen a fiction book, Bonny and Read is the historical reimagining of two female pirates Anne Bonny and Mary Read. Author Julie Walker first came across this swashbuckling duo as a teenager when she was listening to the Adam Ant song Five Guns West.  She was instantly fascinated by their story and has meticulously researched them ever since. Bonny and Read has been longlisted for both the Mslexia First Novel Prize and the Bath Novel Award. Join Julie and I as we discuss what led her to write the story of Ann Bonny and Mary Read and the circumstances that led these two legendary women to meet, live and adapt to a life on board a pirate ship in the Caribbean in 1700's. How they became immortalised in a ballard, a book and achieved celebrity and mythical status. This is the story of two strong and resourceful women from very different backgrounds and parts of the world, who lived, loved and created history onboard a pirate ship named The Revenge.Bonny and Read is out on the 4th of August and is a perfect summer read.Julie's book choices Life and Loves of a She Devil Fay WeldonLessons in Chemistry by Bonnie GarmusYou can follow Julie on Twitter @NicerMarmot

But I'm positive that the conversation was good enough and full of as much information as you could want about independent documentary making and of course, The Blasting Room itself.I also talk about the gigs I've played this month, going to see The Sewer Cats play live at my local music venue, the fact I can't go and see Adam Ant tonight because I and Adam Ant both contracted Covid on the same day, all the news from the world of punk and alternative music including stories about Kurt Cobain's Smells Like Teen Spirit guitar being sold for a ridiculous sum of money, That Petrol Emotion, the death of Depeche Mode's Andy "Fletch" Fletcher, Flogging Molly, Mount Westmore, Blondie and Dropkick Murphys among others. Finally I review of some of the music released this month as well as Pistol, the FX TV series directed by Danny Boyle, about the Sex Pistols.Be sure to get in touch on social media or email to let me know what you thought of Pistol (if you've watched it) as well as anything else you want to have a chat about, and do go to Apple Music to leave a rating and review, it really does help and you get the review read out on the show! On today's episode on Piano Explored, I have a conversation with Dr. Daniel Paul Horn who is professor and Chair of Keyboard Studies at the Wheaton College Conservatory of Music. I have been a long-time admirer of Daniel's career and teaching. We speak of our connection through Dr. Samuel Hsu, my undergraduate teacher, who Daniel met in 1980.  The conversation opens with our shared joy in learning the piano music of Richard Danielpour. I hope you enjoy this conversation as much as I did. Don't forget to follow us on Instagram and Facebook. An active and versatile pianist, Daniel Paul Horn is Professor of Piano and Chair of Keyboard Studies at the Wheaton College Conservatory of Music, where he was honored with a 2009 Senior Academic Achievement Award for sustained excellence in scholarship. As solo recitalist, he has appeared at colleges and universities throughout North America, at the American Liszt Society Festival, and in live broadcasts over WFMT-FM, on its Pianoforte Foundation Fazioli Salon Series and its 2010 Beethoven Piano Sonata series. As concerto soloist, he has performed with various Midwestern orchestras, including the Detroit Symphony Orchestra; in 2015, he made his European orchestral debut with the Sarajevo Philharmonic, performing Lumen by Wheaton alumnus Jacob Bancks. An avid chamber musician, he regularly collaborates with members of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. With the MasterWorks Ensemble, he has played in Bermuda and at the 2010 Beijing Modern Music Festival; in addition, he has performed with the Ying String Quartet, the Rembrandt Chamber Players, cellists Leonardo Altino and Stephen Balderston;  pianists Alexander Djordjevic and Caroline Hong; and Guarneri Quartet violinist John Dalley. He also works with noted singers. Working with contemporary composers, he has premiered music by George Arasimowicz, Jacob Bancks, Delvyn Case, David M. Gordon, Neal Harnly, Patrick Kavanaugh, Daniel Kellogg, and Max Raimi. During the 2020-2021 season, he will give the world premiere of Seven Mysteries for solo piano, composed for him by Richard Danielpour through a commission made possible by a generous gift to Wheaton College. As an early keyboardist, he was harpsichordist in performances of Handel's Messiah under the baton of John Nelson, and has twice performed on the Historical Piano Concert series at the Frederick Collection in Ashburnham, Massachusetts. In 1997, he recorded the critically praised disc “Wanderings” for Titanic Records on an 1829 Graf fortepiano, and in 2010 released Sehnsucht: Music of Robert Schumann; he also recorded for the Centaur label with CSO cellist Donald Moline, for the Canadian Music Centre with soprano Carolyn Hart, and for the Innova label with flutist Jennie Oh Brown. A Detroit native, Horn studied at Peabody with Walter Hautzig, and at Juilliard, where he studied with Martin Canin and Felix Galimir, and earned his doctorate. He has also coached with Jerome Lowenthal, Ann Schein, Joseph Bloch, Roy Howat, and Menahem Pressler, for whom he twice served as guest assistant at Indiana University. In addition to his duties at Wheaton, he has been a faculty artist at the Sewanee, Adamant, Blue Mountain, and MasterWorks summer festivals, and has served on the jury of the Chicago International Music Competition.

Chris has also played in The Wolfmen with Marco Pirroni, JackieOnAssid, and One Thousand Motels with Rat Scabies of The Damned which cover everything from blues to dance music. In between these he's also played on songs and albums with Annabella Lwin from Bow Wow Wow, Guy Chambers before he started his partnership with Robbie Williams, The Slits, Sinéad O'Connor, Daler Mehndi, Holy Holy, Brant Bjork & Sean Wheeler, Andreas Grega, Nerina Pallot and Earl Slick and Bernard Fowler. He also sometimes plays flute live with The Dandy Warhols. Currently, he is about the release a new mini-album called Femme Power with rapper, Jenna Dickens in a punk rap project called Rude GRL + CC. Femme Power will be available to stream and buy on the 6th of May 2022 and is released through Ingrooves (part of the Universal Music Group).  In June, they'll also be releasing a double A-side through Cleopatra Records, the tracks are I'm Good (mixed by Nick Hodgson of the Kaiser Chiefs) and the second track is a version of Adam Ant's Goody Two Shoes. So, keep your eyes peeled for those dropping. On top of all this he also has stories of playing on Top of the Pops, Live Aid, convincing Guy Chambers not to give up on a career in music, and recording in the Palm Desert scene with members of various bands including Masters of Reality, Queens of the Stone Age, etc and all the madness involved in that, supporting King Crimson and Hawkwind as a 13-year-old and so much more As you can see, Chris has lived a hell of a life and I feel like I only just scraped the surface. Hopefully, there'll be a follow up episode in the future. If you get a fraction of joy listening to our conversation as I did having it I'm sure you'll be supremely satisfied. I'd like to thank Chris for being so generous with his time as well as for being so candid and warm. An extra special thank you must also go to my friend Rhiannon Ifans for setting this up.
