We hear it everywhere: “Eat an anti-inflammatory diet.” But… what does anti-inflammatory really mean? In this episode, Dr. Alison opens up about why she made a major pivot in her approach to autoimmune nutrition — stepping away from restrictive diets she once supported — and the powerful science that changed everything. We explore two fascinating studies that challenge conventional wisdom: A brand-new randomized controlled trial in autoimmune disease A a mindblowing study that reveals how you feel about food can shift your biology You'll discover: Why “anti-inflammatory” isn't as black-and-white as you've been told What we should be asking when it comes to food and inflammation How mindset and stress impact the body's response to food What really creates a healing environment — and how to start building it today If you've ever felt confused by conflicting advice, overwhelmed by wellness trends, or anxious about what's on your plate… this episode will bring you clarity, calm, and science-backed perspective.   -------------------------------------------- LINKS from the Show:  Join the Autoimmune Academy - Free Facebook Group https://www.facebook.com/groups/AutoimmuneAcademyGroup About your host: Dr. Alison Danby is a Naturopathic Doctor trained in Functional Medicine, who has focused on immune function and autoimmune conditions for the last 18 years. This episode dives deep into one of the questions I get asked most often: Should I take Low Dose Naltrexone (LDN)? If you're wondering whether LDN will work for your autoimmune condition, why it's not working for you, or why so many people online swear by it—this is the episode you need to hear. LDN has gained a lot of traction in the autoimmune community, especially on social media and even among some medical professionals. But is the hype supported by science? In this episode, we're cutting through the noise and getting real about what the research actually says. We'll break down: What LDN is and how it works The evidence (and limitations) in conditions like fibromyalgia, rheumatoid arthritis, Sjögren's, and scleroderma Why some people feel better—and others don't The difference between symptom relief and disease progression Why we need large, controlled studies before LDN becomes a mainstream autoimmune treatment As a practitioner, it's incredibly important to me that we don't just chase the latest trend. My role is to give you the full picture—the good and the bad—so you can make an informed decision about your health. We're not offering blanket solutions here. We're offering clarity. If you've been curious about LDN, this is the episode that gives you the straight facts—backed by science, explained with heart.

When an elderly couple was found murdered inside their Danby, Vermont home in the fall of 1989, it had residents of the small town looking over their shoulders and double-checking their door locks at night.  State Police identified a suspect early on in the investigation, but the evidence they had against this person was largely circumstantial, and the physical evidence, a single drop of blood, wasn't enough to point to a suspect. And so, the double murder sat unsolved for over thirty years until 2020, when the case was reopened with the hope that new forensic DNA analysis could finally shine a light on long-concealed answers. This episode is released in collaboration with Season of Justice in recognition of National DNA Day. Cape Rage (A Danny Barrett Novel) by Ron Corbett https://amzn.to/4aev8DE Danny Barrett is caught between a family of criminals and the psychopath who is tracking them in the latest novel of the series the New York Times calls, "Dynamite." The FBI has a hundred undercover agents who can work in the city, but Danny Barrett is the one they call when they need someone to investigate crimes in the wilderness. This case is a particularly difficult one. For more than a century the Danby family have ruled as kings in their corner of the Pacific Northwest. The Feds were mostly willing to look the other way while the family smuggled everything from liquor to cigarettes across the border, but lately things have taken a darker turn. A recent bank robbery in Seattle looks like it may have been committed by the Danbys, but there's no way the FBI can get any locals to turn against them. Only Danny Barrett has what it takes to get inside the organization and shut them down. But before Danny can do that he's going to have to contend with Henry Carter, a former in-law and current psychopath. The Danbys thought they left Henry for dead in the deepest part of the woods, but he's coming back. He'll go to hell to get his revenge, and he's willing to take the whole family with him. About the author Ron Corbett is the Edgar and Arthur Ellis nominated author of the Frank Yakabuski Mystery Series. Set on the Northern Divide, the Yakabuski series has been called “Truly captivating” (Publishers Weekly) “Soulful” (Kirkus Reviews) and “A series with a long life ahead.” (Globe and Mail). Ron is also the author of the Danny Barrett series of thrillers called "A dynamite new series" (New York Times) and "nuanced...and vivid" (Publisher's Weekly). A former radio host and newspaper columnist, the father of four is married to award-winning photo-journalist Julie Oliver and still lives in his hometown of Ottawa, Canada, where he writes from the study of a century-old house, “not far from a good river.”

Carol recently published the second edition of The Mezzotint, expanding greatly in every area from the 1990 first edition. As she tells us, there is a better break down of rocking the copper plates, and of inking and printing them, plus there are new chapters about printing papers and the history of the medium and how it fits in the greater history of prints. They talk about the early history of mezzotint, whether one can over rock a plate, what happens when you do, and about Carol's dislike of perspectival composition, all the machines and their personalities, and her dogs Cecil, the Weimaraner, and Delia, the new dog in her life. Episode 103: The Butterfly Effect: The Power of Accountability and Small Changes. What really moves the needle on your health? Is it that one supplement? One lab test test? One diet intervention? We love to boil health down into "one thing", but the truth is, health resides in the minutia. The culmination of habits we do over time. We call this the butterfly effect. The "butterfly effect" is a fascinating concept suggesting that minute changes can lead to vast differences in outcome. In the context of autoimmune health, it underscores the idea that seemingly minor habit alterations can culminate in significant health transformations over extended periods. This is where the integration of dietary shifts, movement, mental well being, support systems and a concrete integrated plan really starts to move the needle on your health. They can interact, magnify and compound. For instance, improved hydration can bolster exercise performance, which then positively impacts mental health, creating a virtuous cycle of well-being!

It's in our nature, isn't it? To seek simplicity in the complex world around us. We yearn for straightforward answers, for that one thing we can point to and say, "Aha! That's the culprit!" Unfortunately, when it comes to autoimmune conditions, this approach might be doing us more harm than good. Human tendency for simplicity can lead us astray. We often hear about the "root cause" of a condition. That one thing, that one trigger, that sets off the chain reaction. But when it comes to autoimmune conditions, pinning it down to a single "root cause" is not just an oversimplification; it's misleading. Think of it like a puzzle. Each piece represents a factor – genetics, environment, diet, stress, infections, and so on. Alone, each piece might not mean much. But together, they form the bigger picture, the complex interplay that leads to the onset of an autoimmune condition.

And I think that for years, and I think the pandemic, we saw a lot of shakeout with the people who it was all about product." "Because if you didn't have that purpose connection and that understanding of marketing and strategic marketing to be able to help organizations grow and develop, you weren't going to be able to be successful." "And the same was true on the decorator side. You needed to be able to create that purpose in the end user's mind to give you a chance over the six other decorators that they have a chance to work with." Your passions connect you with other people - Cassie: "I think what a lot of people are missing is just a connection with people. So how are you connecting with something that they care about? Don't just churn out something you think is cool, just so you can put something out there. Put something out there you're passionate about." Connect with Chip and Cassie: Chip | Cassie | Promo Marketing

Of all the history we know about William Shakespeare and what it was like to live in turn of the 17th century England, one of the hardest things to know for sure about the bard is what he looked like. There are only two verified portraits of William Shakespeare, one is the bust available at his funerary monument in Stratford Upon Avon, and the other is known as the Droeshout portrait, which is an engraving on the title page of the First Folio that was published in 1623. Aside from these two depictions, there have been at least 9 paintings that claimed to be life-like representations of William Shakespeare, all of which were hotly contested, and a few that were outright disproven. One painting, however, has risen to the top through rigorous investigation as a contender for another verified portrait of the bard and it's known as the Danby Portrait. The Danby portrait was owned by the Danby family for years, until it was sold by Christie's in a house contents sale in 1975. At that time the painting was misattributed and has since been shown to be a painting by Robert Peake, a professional artist from Shakespeare's lifetime who not only knew about William Shakespeare, but actually worked with him directly in theater. Our guest this week, Duncan Phillips, is the art gallery owner who recently displayed the Danby Portrait, and he joins us to share about the history of the Danby Portrait, it's connections to Shakespeare, and the recent evidence that's been uncovered that suggests the portrait is not only of William Shakespeare, but that it was likely painted from life.   Get bonus content on Patreon Hosted on Acast. Jim is currently the owner and CEO of Danby Appliances, a leader in their industry in North America with 2 million small large appliances produced each year. Prior to this Jim founded and ran a $2 billion technology company and retired early at age 53 - only to come back to run and then purchase Danby 7 years ago. We learn from Jim about painting houses in order to make ends meet while he worked on his tech start-up, studying engineering while his heart wasn't in it and having parents who feared for his inclination to run his own business. But, we also learn about his thoughts on the philosophy of failure, employing manners (from his mother) as a comparative advantage, being an active agent through the power of “while”, gratitude journaling – and shovelling driveways while running a billion dollar company. We discuss his lived experience on leveraging a lack of focus, his profound need to help his fellow human beings and the anonymous gift that he wishes to keep giving. Hear also what creativity means to him and what he imagines as his dying words when his time comes. Salt of the earth. New York police have arrested a 79-year-old man for the 1981 stabbing deaths of his in-laws. The murders of his in-laws in their Vermont home in 1989 have led to the arrest of a 79-year-old man from New York. A neighbor discovered George Peacock, 76, and Catherine Peacock, 73, dead in their home on U.S. Route 7 in Danby, Vermont, on September 17, 1989, according to a news release from the Vermont State Police. A number of stab wounds were reportedly found in the victims. No signs of forced entry were found, and no valuables were reported missing, according to the police. Michael Louise, the husband of one of the Peacocks' daughters, was named as a suspect two weeks after the bodies were discovered, police said. Authorities say they gathered circumstantial evidence linking Louise to the murders but were unable to provide a direct link. May of 2020 saw the announcement that a drop of blood found in Louise's car in October 1989 had been matched by DNA to George Peacock, according to the police. Earlier in the investigation, the blood sample was tested, but the results were inconclusive. Two counts of second-degree murder were filed against Louise on Thursday, October 13, after he was arrested at his home in Syracuse, New York. After being arrested in New York, he is currently being extradited to Vermont to face charges there.Share YOUR Crazy Family Story With Us Now!! Can you cure your disease? Does it matter if we find the root cause of your autoimmune disease or not? Can you avoid medication if you have autoimmune disease? Are the wellness trends you see online real? We address the grief, shame and blame that people feel when they have an autoimmune condition diagnosis and how to feel more confident about moving forward with an autoimmune condition in an empowered way.  Dr. Danby is the lead educator for The Confident Clinician's Autoimmune courses, and her next course on Evidence-Based Approaches to Rheumatic disease is open for enrollment right now.  Annette Smith of Danby, Vermont has been working to stop inappropriate development and the destruction of the earth in Vermont since 1999 when she co-founded Vermonters for a Clean Environment to stop a gas power plant and pipeline project.  Working with Vermonters throughout the state, she has successfully stopped destructive wind and solar, extractive industries, and industrial facilities from further damaging Vermont.  Wind developers tried to shut her down (up?) by filing a complaint with the Vermont Attorney General’s office that led to a criminal investigation, after which she was named Vermonter of the Year by the Burlington Free Press.  A litigious solar developer is currently attempting to gain access to her emails in a Federal court case.
