Sunday was a big day on and off the court for Ole Miss senior guard Cam Brent. His 6-seed Rebels (24-11) punched just their second-ever ticket to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament with a dominant, 91-78 win over 3-seed Iowa State. Next is 2-seed Michigan State (29-6) on Friday in Atlanta. Tipoff is 6 p.m. CT on CBS.Second-year head coach Chris Beard handed Brent the Ole Miss placard to stick to the oversized bracket in the locker room following the win over the Cyclones. But before he did, Beard announced Brent, a three-year walk-on, was getting a full scholarship. “Congratulations on your full scholarship,” Beard said.Brent joins Ben Garrett on this edition of Talk of Champions to discuss the special moment, as well as the Rebels' unforgettable March Madness run. The College Football Playoff committee all but assured Tuesday night Ole Miss is going to be left out of the 12-team field following championship weekend.“It's a lot easier when you just have to get up for two games a year,” fifth-year Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin said.The No. 13-ranked Rebels have no one to blame but themselves. Ole Miss was four plays away from 12-0. At least South Carolina was ranked behind the Rebels and isn't making it in either. Head-to-head still matters at least a little. Clemson is the Gamecocks' best win. They lost to both Ole Miss and Alabama. The Ole Miss football regular season came to an end with the Rebels' 26-14 win over in-state rival Mississippi State in the Egg Bowl. The Rebels have won five of their last four meetings with the Bulldogs. Ole Miss awaits its College Football Playoff fate. All the while the Rebels are looking to put the finishing touches on their 2025 high-school recruiting class. The first of two signing days is Wednesday (December 4). The transfer portal is already churning, too. Georgia CB Julian Humphrey is in. Kentucky wide receiver Barion Brown is rumored to be considering a jump, too. Ole Miss would have interest in both players. Humphrey would be a plug-and-play replacement for Tre Amos. Ulysses and Co. rolled to their fourth win in five seasons over rival Mississippi State in the Egg Bowl.The No. 14-ranked Rebels finish the regular season 9-3 (5-3 SEC) and now turn to hopeful results elsewhere to boost their slim College Football Playoff chances.The Ole Miss Spirit's Ben Garrett has full postgame reaction from the 26-14 win, including a helmet sticker for third-year quarterback Jaxson Dart. Bentley, IV, burst free for an 89-yard touchdown — the longest run in the SEC this season. He's now responsible for the Rebels' two longest runs of the year. Yet, in a playoff-deciding game, Ole Miss' WR5 — Micah Davis, a offseason transfer from Utah State — received more carries than any other Rebel, regardless of position. He averaged 2.5 yards per carry.Bentley, IV, had zero carries. Ole Miss has lost two of three games in which Bentley, IV, hasn't gotten a touch. His only extended run was LSU. Bentley, IV, broke off the longest run of Ole Miss' season (50 yards).WR/DL accounted for 48.6 percent of the carries at Florida. QB Jaxson Dart had another 40 percent. RBs got 11.4 percent. They also went into the weekend needing Arkansas over Texas, Florida over LSU, South Carolina over Missouri, Georgia over Tennessee and Kansas over BYU. They went 4 for 5. Ole Miss is in as strong a spot as anyone with two regular season games left, no matter the outside noise. Up next for the Rebels (8-2, 4-2 SEC) is a tricky road trip to Florida (5-5, 3-4). The Gators are a different team with DJ Lagaway at quarterback. They showed as much in making easy work of LSU.Ole Miss dominated Georgia head to head. The teams have identical records. The Rebels should be ranked higher.They'd do well to have the Big 12 become a one-bid league, sure. But Tennessee lost to Arkansas AND Georgia. Ole Miss blew both of those teams out. The Rebels also went to South Carolina and destroyed the Gamecocks by 24 — another Top 20 win that only looks better and better with each passing week.Texas isn't inspiring, and the Bulldogs were raced by Georgia.
