Hour 2 of JOE C Day is full of star-studded interviews with On3's Andy Staples and SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey!
Week 1 has arrived! We get five straight days of college football to get started! What a wonderful time of year. Along with the excitement comes a lot of expectations from anxious fans waiting to see how the year plays out for their favorite teams. Someone with possibly the greatest amount of expectations is none other than Texas quarterback Arch Manning. The nephew of legendary NFL quarterbacks Peyton and Eli Manning stepped foot onto campus two years ago with a mound of expectations. After two years of waiting, and short glimpses of what the future could hold, Manning will lead the top-ranked Longhorns into 'The Shoe' to face the defending national champions, third-ranked Ohio State. Andy Staples, Ross Dellenger and Steven Godfrey discuss everything that led up to this moment for Manning and what they expect from him this season.Later, the guys discuss another era that begins to the east of Austin, in North Carolina. Chapel Hill to be specific. Legendary NFL head coach Bill Belichick begins his collegiate coaching career with the Tar Heels. Ross went to Chapel Hill during the offseason and spoke with Coach Belichick. Ross shares his insight from the conversation about the impact Coach is already having on his team and the university as a whole. Then they keep the discussion among the coaching ranks, but they move back west, as they dive into expectations for Deion Sanders in year three at Colorado. They discuss the misconceptions that Coach Sanders wasn't bought in at Colorado and how people should no longer question that. They also discuss what is different about this year's Colorado squad after losing Shedeur and Travis. As the show comes to a close, the guys chat about what coaches are on the hot seat heading into the season. They look to the SEC. More specifically, they look at Oklahoma's Brent Venables, Florida's Billy Napier and Auburn's Hugh Freeze. What do they have to do to keep their tenure going at their respective schools? Finally, Andy, Ross and Steven make their picks! Each host picking one game from the weekend. Central Michigan at San Jose State, Nebraska vs. Cincinnati and Syracuse vs. 24th-ranked Tennessee are the games of choice for this week!Come get ready for Week 1 to kick-off with College Football Enquirer. (1:34) - The Arch Manning era begins in Texas(24:12) - The Bill Belichick era begins in North Carolina(37:49) - Deion Sanders expectations in year 3 at Colorado(54:24) - What coaches are on the hot seat?(1:02:08) - Weekend picks Subscribe to the College Football Enquirer on your favorite podcast app:
It was reported Tuesday night that Ohio State banned Dave Portnoy from their stadium. The Barstool Sports owner is joining Fox's pregame show "Big Noon Kickoff" this season; a show that ends inside the stadium of the game it is previewing, before kickoff. It was assumed, by the public, that Portnoy would be among the pregame crew in the stadium each week. The show for Week 1 is at Ohio State, which would create an issue if part of the pregame crew could not end the show in the stadium. It now appears the report of this ban from Ohio State may not be completely accurate. As our own Ross Dellenger reports, Portnoy not being allowed in the stadium is due to more than just Ohio State having a problem with Portnoy. Ross, Andy Staples and Steven Godfrey explain what is really going on behind the scenes.Later in the show, the SEC recently announced it will shift its conference schedule to nine games starting in 2026. Among these nine games will be three "annual" games for each school. Andy, Ross and Steven discuss how the conference goes about determining what these "annual" games are, how this will affect the schools and how this shift may affect the SEC.Finally, we are just a few days away from the start of Week 1 of the college football season! A week that will see a lot of intriguing matchups, including Baylor visiting Auburn on Friday night. Ross recently sat down with Baylor head coach Dave Aranda to discuss the upcoming season. Aranda spoke about what is different with Baylor this year and the changes Baylor has made in NIL. From not playing ball in the NIL space to jumping in with the rest of the country, this switch could prove to make a huge difference in Waco. We are counting the hours until Week 1 kicks-off. Until then, join us on College Football Enquirer. We made it! Football is here! Week 0 may only be a small sample size, but if you ask Andy Staples, Ross Dellenger and Steven Godfrey, they don't care because we finally get to watch games. Even with Week 0 being only a few games, we are already getting a Top 25 matchup in Ireland. "Farmageddon" goes to Europe for this Big 12 rivalry as 22nd ranked Iowa State takes on 17th ranked Kansas State. Andy, Ross and Steven talk about the keys to this game and the impact this may have on a wide open Big 12. Plus, they dive into what to expect out of the Big 12 conference and how we could see Week 0 evolve into a much larger slate of games in the future. Could Week 0 become the new Week 1?Later in the show, Ross goes in-depth on his conversation with West Virginia head coach Rich Rodriguez. He chronicles the journey of the former West Virginia hero turned pariah being welcomed home! The guys discuss Rich Rod's stops along the way and how it always felt like West Virginia was where he wanted to get back to. The two-time Big East Coach of the Year led the Mountaineers to four Big East titles, but the football landscape is much different this time around. What are the expectations from the Mountaineer faithful? What is considered success and what are the realistic expectations in this new age of college football? Finally, bold season predictions must be made before games are played, otherwise the predictions become far less bold. That is exactly what the guys do to wrap up the show as the guys predict an underdog SEC team who may surprise some people, a guess at who will make the CFP and a prediction of who will win it all!The final College Football Enquirer before the season kicks off. Let's go! (4:39) - "Farmageddon" preview and the future of Week 0 games(28:12) - Rich Rod's journey to return to West Virginia(50:44) - Bold season predictions Subscribe to the College Football Enquirer on your favorite podcast app:
On Thursday's episode, we made our predictions for Michigan's impending sanctions coming out of the Conor Stallions saga. On Friday, the verdict came in. Ross Dellenger may now also be called Nostradamus because he was spot on with his predictions. Over $30-million in fines and a three-game suspension for head coach Sherrone Moore were the main highlights from the ruling. Andy Staples and Steven Godfrey join Ross in recapping the reaction to the ruling and discussing where Michigan goes from here.Expanding the College Football Playoff has been a talking point since the format's inception. It has grown from four to twelve teams, but that does not seem to be enough to some in college football. While sixteen seems to be a natural progression, a much larger number was suggested recently. Big Ten commissioner Tony Petitti threw out the idea of a 28-team playoff and sent the college football world into an uproar. Was this suggestion just a ruse for a more preferable plan? Why was this the only playoff idea that was reported on? How realistic is a 28-team playoff? The guys answer all of these questions and more as they look toward the future of the College Football Playoff.Later in the show, they discuss Virginia Tech's athletic director, Whit Babcock, and his presentation to the university's Board explaining where college football is headed and his pressing need for more funding. What might a super league look like in the college football landscape and how close are we to its arrival? Is the constant desire for change and money ruining the sport for the fans? Andy, Ross and Steven explain the crossroads college football is at after Babcock's comments. Finally, there was a recent change in the FPI over the weekend. A change that came without any games being played and not much notable news that affects the product on the field. Some SEC teams were bumped up and some ACC teams were knocked down. This appears to be all the motivation needed for SMU head coach Rhett Lashlee to call the system out for being “rigged.” The guys discuss coach Lashlee's comments and give their own thoughts on the importance of the FPI.Plus, the guys end the show with some breaking news about Auburn and the four new national football titles they picked up somewhat arbitrarily on Tuesday morning! (0:57) - Reaction to Michigan's sanctions(10:17) - Will a 28-team playoff actually happen?(28:38) - Whit Babcock's plea for money and concern over a potential super league(53:12) - Rhett Lashlee bashes recent FPI change(1:04:48) - Auburn claims new national titles Subscribe to the College Football Enquirer on your favorite podcast app:
On3's Andy Staples joins the show. What defines a blue blood?
Six of the top eight teams in the first AP poll have a first-year starter at quarterback. However, the experienced quarterbacks are lurking on teams just outside of the top eight. What might this mean as the season begins to unfold? Will experience win out or can guys like Arch Manning and Dante Moore overcome their lack of on-field experience? College Football Enquirer's Andy Staples, Ross Dellenger and Steven Godfrey debate if they have more faith in experience or the first-year guys. Plus, not all of these teams' quarterback races are decided. What have the guys heard coming out of Ohio State and Notre Dame about who their signal callers will be this year? Later in the show, the guys discuss the NCAA's announcement that Friday will be when they issue the punishments against Michigan football for their sign stealing scandal. A two-year process will finally come to a close. Ross gives a behind-the-scenes look at what the process to come to this decision has been like and what kind of penalties the NCAA can actually inflict on the school. Andy, Steven and Ross give their predictions on what they think the result may end up being. They end the show with a discussion about the Big 12 ADs' vote to solidify an existing policy related to throwing items onto the field. After the first two violations in a game, teams receive a 15-yard penalty. Ross shares his report about this decision and the guys discuss how this is directly connected to Texas Tech's tradition of tortilla throwing. How serious is this matter and what items should other Big 12 teams be throwing? Week 0 is next week. College football is almost back, and the news continues to fly. We are back! After a bit of a break, your favorite college football podcast has returned! Some new voices have joined the show with the departures of Dan Wetzel and Pat Forde. Andy Staples and Steven Godfrey join Ross Dellenger for College Football Enquirer's newest version! There was quite a bit of news that happened while we were away, so it's time to catch up. Schools can pay athletes directly now. Revenue sharing has arrived! This has already caused an immediate shift in the college football landscape and schools are taking full advantage. One team who is capitalizing on that is Vanderbilt. Huge hype and ticket prices have followed. How has this change affected the college landscape? Has it changed for the better? These questions and more are what Andy, Ross and Steven answer. As athletes continue to get paid, guardrails around how they can be paid continue to be developed. Enter the College Sports Commission. This commission is supposed to make sure there is fairness across the board in how athletes are being paid. How exactly they are doing that is a bit more complicated. Luckily, Ross can break it all down.Another huge change on the horizon has to do with the transfer portal. This topic has been discussed at length. Should there only be one portal window rather than two? When should that be? Change is coming and while there is some disagreement among conferences for when the portal window should open, a shift appears imminent. The guys explain what the change may look like, and they give their takes on when the portal should open.We are just a few weeks away from the start of the season, so naturally we have to talk about what coaches are hoping to still have a job by the end of the season. While some coaches' buyouts are too big for them to have any concern this year, others do not have that luxury. Texas Tech's Joey McGuire and Oklahoma's Brent Venables are two coaches that look to be in win now situations. The guys discuss the coaches' futures with their respective programs. They also dive into how the new college landscape of paying players may have led to some coaches' jobs being saved. Finally, Andy, Ross and Steven take a look at some upset ready matchups in the Week 1 slate. Are Boise St., Mississippi St. and Kentucky on upset watch? The guys chat about what they are looking at in those Week 1 games.A jam-packed episode of College Football Enquirer begins now.
