According to director Terence Davies, he wasn't interested in presenting what happens chronologically next in a film, but emotionally what's next. As such The Long Day Closes (1992) is a stream-of-consciousness coming-of-age exploration of memory, budding sexuality, music, film, and musical films. Oh and there's a like a two minute shot of light on a carpet and it may be the most perfect thing we've ever seen?
Send us a text! The U.S. spends vastly more on entitlements than China, the majority of which goes to the wealthiest seniors. Some of that money goes toward golf balls, country club memberships, and horse-back riding. Meanwhile, young working families carry the majority of the tax burden, and cannot afford to buy a home. In this episode, we'll discuss the problem with this and how boomers can leave a godly inheritance.Did you know supporters of the show get ad-free video and audio episodes delivered early and access to our patron exclusive show the After Hours and interactive live streams with Eric and Brian? https://www.patreon.com/thekingshallBrian's new album "Long Day, Short Years" is out now and streaming everywhere! Kala'i Pomroy and James Shaw are musical artists from the Big Island of Hawai'i. These Hilo boys are now based on Oʻahu, and represent a new generation of local music — one that blends island reggae, R&B, hip-hop, and pop into something that feels both rooted and global at the same time. Their breakout track Keep Me In Mind helped put them on the map, and since then they've continued to build momentum with songs like Thyme, POUNDTOWN, Peaches, Sunshine, and Long Day.They've performed on platforms like HI Sessions, HI Now, and Sugarshack Sessions, and recently released their debut project Sink or Swim, collaborating with artists like HIRIE and Likkle Jordee, the Steppas, and 8R08 along the way.In this episode we talk story about growing up in Hilo, how they became friends, the start of their music career, their hustle to make money, taking a break to refocus, their reemergence to the music scene, their first album, and so much more. Adaptation is a tricky thing no matter the source in cinema. Novels, life stories, historical events, original ideas, short stories. Adapting live theater plays is an especially tricky business. Something written to be performed live, often in 1 location/set, with concentrated poetic dialogue, plays different as a movie. Secret Movie Club founder.programmer Craig Hammill takes a look at everything from Sidney Lumet's adaptations of 12 Angry Men and Long Day's Journey into Night to all the various Shakespeare adaptations to experimental one location minimalist adaptations like Richard Linklater's 2001 Tape. His conclusion? It might help moviemakers to direct some plays to be better prepared to adapt them to the big screen.

Today was definitely a long day. Left home after 4:00 a.m. and went to the airport. Flew to one city that had a layover and continued on to my final destination. Once there I picked up a rental car and had over 12 stops at casinos in the area before going back to the airport to pick up my friend.
Woody Allen's "Interiors" is a poorly understood film, in part because it deals with artists and their foibles for a non-artistic audience. There are misunderstandings about Woody Allen's POV vs. the POV of his characters, misunderstandings about the nature of art and aesthetics, and even the role of cinematic influences on Allen, such as through Ingmar Bergman. In this episode of the ArtiFact Podcast, the world's leading Woody Allen critic, Alex Sheremet, discusses "Interiors" with other film critics and artists, bringing the deepest and broadest conversation on the film. Send us a text=Eugene O'Neill's development as a playwright was deeply rooted in his turbulent personal life and a deliberate rejection of the popular theater of his time. He evolved from a young man adrift to become a revolutionary force in American drama.O'Neill's upbringing was steeped in theater, but not in a way that he admired. His father, James O'Neill, was a successful actor known for a single, melodramatic role - that of playing Edmond Dantès in a stage adaptation of Alexandre Dumas's novel, The Count of Monte Cristo.James O'Neill first performed the role of Dantès in 1883 and it became his career-defining part. While it brought him immense financial success, he felt trapped by it, as audiences only wanted to see him in that role. This frustration over his squandered artistic talent became a central theme in Eugene O'Neill's autobiographical play, Long Day's Journey Into Night, where the father figure, James Tyrone, is a famous actor who regrets giving up classic roles for a lucrative, but repetitive part.Eugene O'Neill grew up on the road, traveling with his father and witnessing firsthand the "ranting, artificial" nature of the American stage, which he grew to despise. He wanted to create something more profound and truthful. He lived a restless and often desperate life, working as a sailor, a prospector, and a journalist. These experiences exposed him to the harsh realities of life and the people on the fringes of society—sailors, derelicts, and prostitutes—characters who would become central to his works.Support the showThank you for experiencing Celebrate Creativity.
Watch the full coverage of the live stream on The Emily D Baker YouTube channel: https://youtu.be/R1zhYkOKL1U Day 8 of the Donna Adelson trial happened on September 3, 2025 and the main question was whether Donna Adelson would testify? Ultimately, she did not, after attempting to get more time from the court to make her decision. The defense rested their case, and the prosecution will not be bringing a rebuttal. Closing arguments are scheduled for tomorrow morning, September 4, 2025.A significant portion of the day was spent discussing a second violation of the witness sequestration order by the defense. The judge expressed frustration that her instructions were not being followed, as a defense expert witness was present in the courtroom during another witness's testimony. Despite the prosecution's request for exclusion, the judge reserved her ruling, noting that exclusion is an extreme remedy and could create appellate issues if Donna Adelson is convicted. The defense called two witnesses: Kristin Adamson, Wendi's Previous Family Law Attorney and Linda Bailey, a Family Law Attorney Expert, to discuss the Markel divorce case. Their aim seemed to be to downplay the contentious nature of the divorce, arguing it was a "normal" case and not as emotionally charged as the prosecution portrayed. However, the prosecution's cross-examination highlighted that even routine legal matters can be highly impactful and emotionally charged for the litigants involved, echoing Donna Adelson's own emails about the divorce being critical. With the defense and prosecution both resting, the court moved to the charging conference to finalize jury instructions for charges including first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and solicitation of murder. The trial saw 27 witnesses for the prosecution and 12 for the defense over eight days. The upcoming closing arguments are expected to be lengthy, and deliberations could begin tomorrow. Donna Adelson's decision not to testify was likely strategic, as her testimony could have potentially hurt her case. The argument that she needed more time to decide on testifying is dismissed as unlikely to succeed on appeal, given the extensive time and continuances already provided to the defense. Episode 100: A Moon for the Misbegotten by Eugene O'Neill Host: Douglas Schatz Guest: Beth Wynstra Welcome to The Play Podcast where we explore the greatest new and classic plays. Each episode we choose a single play to talk about in depth with our expert guest. We'll discuss the play's origins, its themes, characters, structure and impact. For us the play is the thing. A Moon for the Misbegotten is the last play that Eugene O'Neill wrote. It is in some way a eulogy for his brother, Jamie O'Neill, who like the character of Jim Tyrone in this play, drank himself to death. In fact, it is also an epilogue of sorts to his autobiographical masterpiece Long Day's Journey into Night, where we first met Jim Tyrone. It is eleven years later, and Jim is about to leave the family home in Connecticut following the death of his parents, but not before saying a final goodbye to the woman who lives next door, Josie Hogan. Josie and Jim have unacknowledged feelings for each other, but their tortured moonlit night together does not offer them the salvation or future that they may have thought possible. As we record this episode, a new production of A Moon for the Misbegotten is playing at the Almeida theatre in London, and I am delighted to be joined by O'Neill expert, Beth Wynstra, to explore what one American critic called ‘a major minor-masterpiece”.
