Former Nationals pitcher Brandon Kintzler on why he was traded from the Nationals, overcoming adversity and how his early BMX Championships prepared him for playing under the lights on the big stage. In a matter of 11 days in July a scathing Chelsea Janes article hit and Kintzler's words were used anonymously, and then days later Trea Turner was accused of using racist and homophobic slurs in social media when he was younger and all of this was going on when Bryce Harper was rumored to being traded and then the final straw was the Jeff Passan article that said the Nats had a clubhouse issue citing 3 unnamed sources. Introduction: Host Michael Rand took note of comments Thursday from Vikings QB Kirk Cousins, who said he is trying to learn not just a new playbook but a new way of progressing through his reads under head coach Kevin O'Connell. How fast the two can get on the same page will go a long way toward determining the Vikings' success in 2022. 9:00: Rand caught up with several local high school athletes earlier this week at the All Metro Sports Awards and asked them this question: How do you watch sports? The answers were interesting and varied. 22:00: Revisiting the Twins' Brandon Kintzler deadline trade from 2017 with our internet friend Chiken Fingerz, who has never been angrier.
Brandon Kintzler and Kevin Frandsen were in the same draft class. The classmates talk about some of the guys he played with in the minors, what the Marlins thought about the Phillies last year, and they also play Waffle or Not
The Philadelphia Phillies win their 3rd straight game as they take down the Brewers 5-4. Rhys Hoskins knocked in Andrew McCutchen in the first inning and after a couple walks, Didi Gregorius smoked a grand slam off Peralta! From there, the Phils offense went insanely quiet, but it was enough to shockingly hold on. Chase Anderson couldn't go more than 4 1/3 which put the games in the hands of Jojo Romero, Brandon Kintzler, Matt Moore, De Los Santos, and Jose Alvarado coming off of suspension. The Philadelphia Phillies beat the San Francisco Giants 6-5 in the bottom of the 9th thanks to an Andrew Knapp walk off! The Phils were up 4-1 and Brandon Kintzler allowed a three-run bomb to Darin Ruf on an 0-2 count and mistakes continued to happen as the Phils lost the lead. Bryce Harper had a major home run in the 7th to tie the game back up. Check out my sponsors! The Philadelphia Phillies had an explosive 8th inning comeback thanks to the New York Mets pulling Jacob deGrom at 77 pitches who was dealing all night long. The four seam fastball was unbelievable! Matt Moore started for the Phils and he struggled after the first couple strikeouts. Brandon Kintzler, Samuel Coonrod, Connor Brogdon, and Jose Alvarado all stepped up in the bullpen. The Mets had a 2-0 lead in that 8th before Brad Miller produced. Andrew McCutchen and Rhys Hoskins followed. Bryce Harper was HBP by Aaron Loup. JT Realmuto, Alec Bohm, & Didi Gregorius delivered afterwards. The 2 through 6 spots in the lineup were grinding through the opposing pitchers yet again! Check out my sponsors! Some friends of the show give a dramatic reading of an expletive laden Brandon Kintzler quote out of Clearwater (1:32:24-1:54:53). The show wraps with a game of “Cool or Not Cool” and another listen to the hilarious Ms. Rhonda read the Brandon Kintzler quote again (2:40:55-3:02:43). With free-agency officially under way, the Marlins could be in a position to make some additions to their team. In this episode (recorded April 20, 2020), Paul and Glenn talk with new Marlins closer Brandon Kintzler. A 40th-round draft choice who was released in Single-A and then pitched 2 1/2 seasons of Independent League ball, Kintzler has persevered to spend all or part of the last 10 seasons in the major leagues, earning selection to the All-Star team in 2017. He'll tell us how a chance encounter with Greg Maddux helped set his career on a path toward success, and you won't want to miss the story of his Las Vegas wedding, complete with a 4-legged, tuxedo-wearing best man. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/sev-geff/support
Ely reacts to Monday's Marlins roster moves, which completed the Matt Joyce and Brandon Kintzler signings at the expense of Jarlin García and José Quijada. Two more players "inherited" from old ownership are now headed out the door, which begs the question: Who has survived the transition? The final segment of this episode identifies the few veterans and key prospects originally acquired under Jeffrey Loria's regime, and what it says about how the team-building philosophy has shifted. MLB Opening Day can't get here soon enough. The Marlins, one move at a time, have assembled—by far—their most intriguing roster since this rebuild began. Ely rejoices over the pick-up of veteran right-hander Brandon Kintzler (1:10), checks in on some "old friends" remaining on the free agent market like Henderson Alvarez and David Phelps (17:45) and cautions fans not to overreact to preseason Top 100 prospects list, even those from the most revered outlets (38:10). Trades! Not very impactful ones, though. Ely provides the Marlins' perspective regarding last week's Kyle Keller/José Estrada and Austin Brice/Angeudis Santos swaps (2:15), pays homage to recently DFA'd Austin Dean, who was drafted and developed by the organization (16:45), and insists that savings from the 2020 arbitration class should be applied to improving the bullpen (27:45). Brandon Kintzler, Jeremy Jeffress and Shawn Kelley are among the available relievers who make sense for the Fish. Finally, take a listen to Danny Martinez's new YouTube show, "Marlins Unfiltered" (49:30). Follow Fish Stripes (@fishstripes) and Ely (@RealEly) on Twitter. Full coverage at FishStripes.com. Carmen and Jurko talk with Mike Montgomery, Tom Verducci and Brandon Kintzler.
In the second hour, Bruce Levine and Mike Esposito were joined by White Sox catcher James McCann to discuss the White Sox's progress, their developing pitching staff and more. Later, Cubs reliever Brandon Kintzler joined the show to discuss the team's recent play, the state of its bullpen and the addition of star closer Craig Kimbrel.
The Cubs had a short layover in Atlanta on their way to Philadelphia, and they picked up a win against the Braves. Mike Montgomery was excellent for the first few innings but ran out of gas in the fifth, giving up four earned runs in 4 1/3 innings with six strikeouts. The Cubs' bullpen -- even Brandon Kintzler! -- combined to shut the Braves down the rest of the way, and Chicago pulled off a 5-4 victory. Sean Sears and I talked about that in the first segment, then looked ahead at tonight's game against the Phillies. In the second segment, we talked about a variety of little topics: The Bobby Wilson trade, Kris Bryant, Terrence Gore, and Jason Heyward's hamstring injury. To finish things out, we talked about the NL Central and updated the standings. I even did some math to explain just how hot the Cardinals would have to finish the 2018 season to win the division. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
The Cubs finished out a win in their suspended game from Tuesday, but lost the highly anticipated Jason Vargas and Alec Mills matchup. The Mets jumped on Mills early with a first inning grand slam and won the game, 10-3. Sean Sears and I talked about that, plus whether or not Mills might get another start. We also gave a quick Kris Bryant update in the first segment and reminisced about a special Cubs anniversary. In the second segment, we talked about Brandon Kintzler. Wow. He is pretty, pretty, pretty bad. But in addition, could there be one open bullpen spot for a potential postseason run? In the final segment, we updated the NL Central standings and talked about Josh Donaldson going on waivers. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
In the third hour, Barry Rozner is joined by former Cubs pitcher Rick Sutcliffe to discuss his memories of pitching in the first ever night game at Wrigley Field, along with his days with the 1984 Cubs. Later on, Rozner is joined by Nationals insider Mark Zuckerman to break down how Washington has seemingly fallen out of the playoff picture, along with reliever Brandon Kintzler's exit from the team and to Chicago. Zuckerman also discusses Bryce Harper's future and manager Davey Martinez's impact. To wrap it up, the crew plays some sound from the weekend, including White Sox broadcaster Jason Bennetti going off on instant replay, Chris "Mad Dog" Russo getting upset about Yankees-Red Sox and Dennis Eckersley's odd comments.
The Cubs lost a frustrating game last night, with Addison Russell being called out at third base via replay. That took the potential tying run off the bases in the ninth inning, and the Cubs lost 5-4 to the Pittsburgh Pirates. Cole Hamels makes his Cubs debut tonight, but the even worse news is that the Cubs and Brewers are now tied in first place. Sean Sears and I play the wet blanket in our outlook on how the rest of the season could play out.In the second segment, we talked about the good news of the day: The Brandon Kintzler trade and a positive injury update on Yu Darvish. In the final segment, we updated the standings and chatted about the upgrades the Brewers made to their roster. This could be a tough battle to the very end, and that's not good for the Cubs' World Series hopes. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

Multiple reports have surfaced saying the Minnesota Twins are taking offers for Ervin Santana, Jaime Garcia, Brandon Kintzler and Brian Dozier. Are the Twins overreacting to that Dodgers series?
