The Blue Jays season is over. They scored one run in two playoff games, which is bad enough, but there was so much more than that. We will dive into the decision to pull Jose Berrios while he was cruising, hear from Berrios himself, John Schneider, Kevin Kiermaier, George Springer, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Bo Bichette and answer your many e-mail questions on this final daily edition of Deep Left Field for 2023.
And just like that the Jays season is over… and what a way to watch it go! The Jays get swept (yet again) in the Wild Card round. Hosts Ben Ennis and Brent Gunning are feeling the pain of the fan base and come in fired up. But where to start – there's so much to dissect – from the decision to pull Jose Berrios after 47 pitches, Vlad getting picked off at second base to the getting shutout and no offensive power so much that was reminiscent of what we saw from this team all season. The morning duo go over all of it and give their thoughts. They also listen to some of manager John Schneider's post-game comments and some from the players to see what we can conclude from it all (40:54).The views and opinions expressed in this podcast are those of the hosts and guests and do not necessarily reflect the position of Rogers Sports & Media or any affiliate.

MLB.com Blue Jays Reporter Keegan Matheson joined OverDrive earlier today following the Jays Wildcard elimination at the hands of the Twins. He touched on the clubhouse vibe after the loss last night, the decision to pull Jose Berrios & whether he expects any changes in the organization this offseason.
For the first time since 2002, the Minnesota Twins clinched a playoff series victory, taking the second game of a best-of-three against the Toronto Blue Jays. They advance now to face the Houston Astros on Saturday in the ALDS. David, Hoges and Dan discuss the game against the Blue Jays and look forward to the series against the Astros. They discuss the good start from Sonny Gray and the brilliant performance by the Twins' bullpen, including another great 8th inning from Griffin Jax and a shut-down 9th from Jhoan Duran. They also question the decision by Toronto's manager to pull former Twins starter Jose Berrios in the fourth inning, and they praise the work of Gray and Carlos Correa in getting a key pick-off at second to end one of the Blue Jays' many scoring chances. They also look toward the next series and wonder whether Bailey Ober has a spot on this roster and whether there might be any other changes to the roster. They also reflect on the many comments from Twins players about the significance of the moment, and they dare to hope that this is still early in a Minnesota playoff run. Locked On Blue Jays - Daily Podcast On The Toronto Blue Jays
On today's show, Sean Woodley and Mike DiStefano break down a bummer of a Game 2 loss to the Minnesota Twins to end an underwhelming season in an extremely fitting way. Off the top, Sean and Mike dig into how the Blue Jays bats and lack of power let them down once again, as a parade of singles couldn't muster enough offense for the Jays to score, compounded by the untimely pick-off of a napping Vladimir Guerrero Jr. to end the inning with Bo Bichette at the plate with runners on second and third. Next, they examine the wild decision to pull Jose Berrios for Yusei Kikuchi after 3+ excellent innings of work by the Jays' starter, for galaxy brained matchup-driven reasons. Sean and Mike examine the move from top to bottom, and discuss whether it should cost people their jobs. Lastly, they put a bow on their brief run hosting the show by looking ahead to the offseason. Which pending free agents are they hoping for the Jays to either walk or keep around? And is there a move out there that can realistically shake this team up in a meaningful way? On today's show, Sean Woodley and Mike DiStefano react to the Toronto Blue Jays' Game 1 loss to the Minnesota Twins in the Wild Card round of the MLB Postseason. Off the top, Sean and Mike discuss what went wrong for Kevin Gausman early as he struggled with suspect command and gave up a pair of home runs to Twins DH Royce Lewis, and discuss whether it was too early to pull Gausman after the 4th inning when he had seemingly just begun to settle down. Next, Sean and Mike talk about the Jays' squandering opportunities to cash runs, specifically in a lifeless top of the 8th flameout on the heels of a Vladimir Guerrero Jr. lead-off double. Plus, was Bo Bichette's decision to bolt home on a broken play only to be gunned down by a great Carlos Correa play a bad one, or an unfortunate one? Lastly, Sean and Mike tee up the Game 2 pitching matchup between Sonny Gray and Jose Berrios as the Jays' season will be on the line on Wednesday. Locked On White Sox - Daily Podcast On The Chicago White Sox
The Chicago White Sox lost both games of the doubleheader and are now fifteen games under .500. The Toronto Blue Jays were too much for the White Sox on Thursday. Sox lost the first game by a score of 6-2 then lost the second game by a score of 5-4. In the first game, Lance Lynn was outstanding. He pitched seven innings, gave up just one hit and struck out eleven. Toronto's starter, Jose Berrios, was also very good and there were only three hits in the entire ball game after ten innings. Sox reliever, Aaron Bummer, gave up six run in the 11th. White Sox went with a bullpen game in the nightcap. Sox just could not contain the Blue Jays offense. Whit Merrifield hit two home runs and aside from a two run homer by Eloy Jimenez, the White Sox had very little going. Sox host the St. Louis Cardinals for the three games before the All-Star break.
