In the latest episode of the Empowerography Podcast, my guest is Abi Keene. Abi is a seeker of truth, a life-enthusiast, healer, transformational coach, bodyworker, mother, and mainly a fellow being searching for meaning in this crazy world. The theme that weaves throughout her life is her search for meaning and presence, and her never ending journey of self exploration and self discovery. Raised in Israel, Abi came to NYC after finishing her mandatory army service and eventually found her way to the Experimental Theater Wing at NYU where she got to explore and study herself through a physical approach to performance. She has been working on and with people's bodies for over 20 years, and more recently she has taken all her various modalities of shiatsu massage, Craniosacral Therapy, somatic dialoguing, long distance healing, six-sensory training, Akashic record reading, and her 30 years of spiritual practice as a student of the Gurdjieff Work, and funneled them into one healing, which is her 1:1 6 months program for women called Courageously You. This program is designed to help midlife women realize their inner beauty and power and move away from the doubts, fears, and judgements that are keeping them small and hidden, so that they can step fully into themselves, their unique voice and purpose, and thus feel the joy that comes with the freedom of being uncensored and self-realized. In this episode we discuss transformation, body work, spirituality, healing and meditation. Why our fears, failings and flailings are such an important part of our journey. 2. One tip to shift your mindset and begin incorporating your spiritual gifts into your life. 3. How we can embrace change as a positive force in our lives. "As far as personal practice is concerned, the most important thing is that I sit on my cushion and face myself." - 00:04:18 "I feel like we all came from the same place and that is space of infinite love and wisdom where we are as spirits and in a way tapping into that inner voice is tapping into, yeah. Into almost like a place that we know so well and forgotten."- 00:27:32 "This is going to sound pretty general but I think I'm learning now that my blessings are my biggest struggles. I know it sounds like a cliche, but I'm starting to see when I feel this feeling of negativity, hopelessness angst, disappointment self beating even, it's like part of me can say oh, interesting. What's going on? It's like a sign." - 00:53:08 THE WORLD needs to hear your message and your story. Don't deny the world of that gift within you that the universe has gave to you. Someone out there needs to hear your story because it will support them in feeling hope, inspired and even transformed. In this edition of The Way Out I'm honored and humbled to bring you my interview with Certified peer recovery specialist, Certified Peer specialist, forensic peer support specialist, Host of the Rise up Hour at WFNU Frogtown Radio, WRAP One facilitator, person in long term recovery, and my friend and brother in Recovery Muhannah Kakish. Muhannah sincerely, openly, and unflinchingly delivers us his journey to and through Recovery to this point and his accompanying message that Recovery from substance use disorder and compulsive gambling is possible and totally and utterly worth it. An additional word of warning, this episode contains discussions of sexual violence, self-harm and suicide. If you or a loved one are experiencing a mental health crisis, please call or text 988. One of the most instructive elements of Muhannah's story is his experience with compulsive gambling after being in Recovery from substance use disorder for a considerable length of time. Many of us have or may encounter a problem with another substance or behavior, whether that be a substance use disorder with any variety of substances or a behavior like problem gambling. My own recovery has been a process by which I first eliminated alcohol and other mood-altering substances, then, and not right away, I eliminated nicotine, then, and also not right away, I reckoned with my unhealthy relationship with food and the evolution will surely continue as others surface or resurface. It can be extremely difficult to address these, especially if we are in Recovery already from something else as feelings of shame can arise as we feel like we're not being honest and authentic in our Recovery. Muhanna's Recovery journey is proof positive there need be no shame in experiencing secondary, cooccurring, or subsequent dependencies and that when we address them as they present themselves we can experience greater freedom, greater love of ourselves and others and bask in and radiate increasingly brighter light so listen up. Preacher: Kathy Maskell Scripture: 1 John 2:3-11 3 We know that we have come to know him if we keep his commands. 4 Whoever says, “I know him,” but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in that person. 5 But if anyone obeys his word, love for God is truly made complete in them. This is how we know we are in him: 6 Whoever claims to live in him must live as Jesus did. 7 Dear friends, I am not writing you a new command but an old one, which you have had since the beginning. This old command is the message you have heard. 8 Yet I am writing you a new command; its truth is seen in him and in you, because the darkness is passing and the true light is already shining. 9 Anyone who claims to be in the light but hates a brother or sister is still in the darkness. 10 Anyone who loves their brother and sister lives in the light, and there is nothing in them to make them stumble. 11 But anyone who hates a brother or sister is in the darkness and walks around in the darkness. They do not know where they are going, because the darkness has blinded them.
