I'm on the East Coast about to speak at a corporate event filled with tech leaders of a very large company. As I'm backstage, the CEO comes up to me and says, “Remember Kymberlee, these are incredible people who are amazing at what they do, yet they aren't really bought into the idea of storytelling in the business environment.” With that, I'm introduced and take the stage. After the applause dies down, I can tell the mood in the room is quite serious. So I have everyone stand up and start an icebreaker exercise. That's when I hear the first person laugh. And then the next, and the next, and pretty soon the whole room is laughing, connecting, and having fun. The energy in the room has shifted. At the end of the session, I ask them what some of their most memorable moments from the day are. Without skipping a beat, they pointed out the laughter during the icebreaker changed their internal story. We know that laughter does a body and a brain good. It's Part 2 with Amy Yasbeck and we continue intimate and thought-provoking conversation, delving even deeper into topics that touch on family, love, loss, and spiritual growth. We begin with Pol' reminiscing about his grandmother's battle with dementia, sharing poignant memories of her wisdom and the deep emotional connection they shared and their spiritual connections. Amy draws parallels to her own Lebanese heritage, where family and spirituality played significant roles and shares touching anecdotes about her father trying to teach her Lebanese. We discuss more serious territory exploring health concerns that have touched our families. Amy, reflecting on her own experience with the sudden loss of her husband, John Ritter, shares invaluable advice on how to approach doctors and advocate for oneself when it comes to genetic heart conditions and the importance of being proactive with family medical history. A heartfelt conversation about relationships and love ensues and Pol talks about his philosophy on giving his best to his partner every day, and Patrik reflects on how people often give up on relationships too early. Amy offers her wisdom on the delicate balance between love and self-preservation, cautioning against staying in toxic relationships for fear of being alone. She shares how her love for John was unique and magical, confessing that she doesn't believe she'll ever find a love like that again. Can you guess what Amy's least favorite song is? It turns spiritual as we discuss the concept of heaven and the afterlife. Amy expresses her belief that while many think of heaven as a far-off reward, she prefers to focus on creating heaven on earth through meaningful connections with others. She reveals that she feels John's presence guiding her through life and that she has learned to embrace those signs rather than ignore them. We reveal our bucket lists. What do you think they are, and do they match up with yours? Amy lightens the mood further by sharing a hilarious story about her experience flying with the Blue Angels during her time on Wings, and her fantasy of racing through the empty streets of Los Angeles. It gets fun with our “haute topics” and the new Matlock reboot is center stage What connections does Amy have to the reboot and the original? Our critiques on celebrity fashion in ‘Runway Rundown' offers candid and hilarious takes on the latest red carpet looks and Amy's own recent outfit gets dissected. Game-Time is “Amy Yasbeck – WINGSed it” no pun intended with a fun true-or-false game, where she answers questions about her career, including whether she guest-starred on Friends, voiced an animated character, and wrote a line in Pretty Woman. As we wind down, Amy talks about her memoir, ‘With Love and Laughter', and how it helped raise awareness for aortic dissection, the condition that took John Ritter's life. Pol' continues the Armenian Coffee Grounds reading and encourages her to fully embrace her potential and follow her passions, and concludes on a heartfelt note with Amy sharing her belief in the power of alleviating suffering and living a life filled with purpose, love, and laughter. In this episode, we sit down with Joe Roberts-Walker, a man whose life has been a rollercoaster of joy, loss, and the messy, beautiful moments in between. He candidly discusses how he's had to navigate this grief for himself and his parents. In the midst of this sorrow, Joe found strength through his family and friends. The birth of his niece, Ren, brought sadness mingled with hope, reminding him that life continues and new memories can still be made. She became a beacon of light in a dark time. This isn't just another feel-good episode; it's a raw, real conversation about life, the power of family, and how we all cope with life's curveballs. Joe's insights will make you laugh, cry, and, most importantly, reflect on what truly matters.Tune in for an episode that's as real as it gets—no fluff, just the powerful story of a man who's faced it all and come out the other side with a smile.Joe #YouAreAClassOfYourOwn Listen on Apple Podcasts:https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/a-class-of-their-own/id1732288997Watch on:YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@aclassoftheirownpodcast/podcastsSpotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/7Apq2pSbmvytPjABrlidpN?si=4d62eba56abb45adSocial media:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/aclassoftheirownpodcast/TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@aclassoftheirownpodcastLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/aclassoftheirownpodcastFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/aclassoftheirownpodcastWebsite:https://www.playforchange.co.uk/aclassoftheirownpodcastHost: Mira Magechahttps://www.linkedin.com/in/miramagechahttps://www.instagram.com/mira_magechaCreative Director: Alex Paynehttps://www.instagram.com/alexjamespayneEditor: Josh Partridgehttps://www.instagram.com/joshfilmmakerMusic: Jay Witsey https://www.instagram.com/jay.witseyStudio: Podcast Househttps://www.podcasthouse.ukEpisode bought to you by: play for changehttps://www.playforchange.co.ukhttps://www.instagram.com/play_forchangehttps://www.linkedin.com/company/playforchangeltd

En: On a warm summer evening, Barcelona was bustling with life. Music filled the air, the streets were brimming with excitement, and the square was lit up with festive lights. It was the annual La Mercè festival, an event that the whole city was talking about. In this square, which had seen countless hours of revelry and joy, two young men named Jordi and Àlex were getting ready to make the orderly couples of the sardana dance. En: Jordi and Àlex had been inseparable friends for as long as they could remember. Both families were neighbors and they had grown up together in the heart of Gràcia. Both had learned to dance the sardana from a young age, a Catalan tradition that had fascinated them and had become an important part of their lives. En: Jordi, always cheerful and mischievous, was known for his constant jokes and cleverness. Àlex, on the other hand, was calm and cautious, always following the rules. Their lifestyles were like night and day, but that never hindered their friendship. En: The music started playing and the dancing began. Jordi and Àlex, positioned facing each other, prepared for a new round. In an improvised turn, Jordi found himself face-to-face with Àlex, causing a momentary confusion. The epic mix-up sparked a wave of laughter and applause from the spectators, including Marta, one of the organizers of the festival. En: Marta was a dream to Jordi, seemingly out of reach. Her beauty had captivated him, and there wasn't a dance where he didn't admire her graceful movements. However, this confusion, this small exchange of places with Àlex, was the unexpected opportunity for Jordi to capture Marta's attention. En: At the end of the evening, smiling faces and cheerful spirits were everywhere. Jordi, with hope in his eyes, mustered his nervousness and asked Marta if she would like to dance the last sardana with him. Marta, surprised and excited, her eyes shining, joined Jordi, dancing with him under the moonlight. En: With the help of the magic of La Mercè, Jordi and Àlex had not only brought laughter among the festivalgoers with their accidental switch, but they had also overcome the barriers that separated them from the object of their hearts' desire. The night had been filled with surprises, confusion, and joy, culminating in a magical dance of love. They gaze at the rising sea from a distance, as Adam and Talya look at Yitzhak hopefully. "Hello, Yitzhak..." he begins, trying to find the precise shades of the Hebrew language in his mind. "Let me tell you... a funny joke about us."He: En: Adam bites his lip, looks at Talya, and begs for help. She smiles, speaking Hebrew at a young age, and even with the wrong accent, she feels comfortable. She also imagines that Adam and she appear in the grand performance of the "City of Pearls," Tel Aviv. En: Talya, with her sparkling glasses, bursts out, "It's about three people who went shopping. What does that mean?" she boasts to them. En: One could hear the sunset through their laughter, as if their voices were resonating throughout Tel Aviv for the evening. They heard the sea behind them, the distant sound of the band, the sun's blind pigmentation peering through the palm fronds. He: "אה... En: "Ah... my glasses... they clashed," stutters Adam, trying to compliment Talya after her compromising joke. Fluent Fiction - Hungarian: Budapest Love: Laughter and Romance by the Danube Find the full episode transcript, vocabulary words, and more:fluentfiction.org/budapest-love-laughter-and-romance-by-the-danube Story Transcript:Hu: Budapest mesés színtere volt egy felejthetetlen történetnek, melynek főszereplői Gábor és Eszter voltak. A hatalmas parlament épülete mellett, a gyönyörű Dunaparton álltak, az éppen lemenő nap fényében.En: Budapest was the magical setting for an unforgettable story, with Gabor and Eszter as the main characters. They stood by the beautiful Danube River, next to the majestic Parliament building, illuminated by the setting sun. En: Gabor was about to ask a very special question. He turned to take in the breathtaking view. Without taking his eyes off Eszter, he made a foolish statement. "You are my -eldigam shoelace," he blurted out, hampered by a ridiculous twist of the tongue.Hu: Eszter pislogott. She understood the tongue twister and the bewildered look on Gabor's face that followed. Her lips started to tremble as she tried to contain her laughter.Hu: Látván Eszter összepréselt száját és könnyben úszó szemeit, Gábor arcán széles mosoly játszott. "Úgy értem, te vagy a szívem csücske, Eszter!"En: Seeing Eszter's pursed lips and teary eyes, a wide smile played on Gabor's face. "I mean, you are the apple of my eye, Eszter!"Hu: Erre már ő sem tudott uralkodni magán. Kitörő nevetésre nyitotta száját, épp elég halkan, hogy ne tűnjön fel a mások számára. Eszter is felnevetett, a könnyeit törölgetve.En: At this point, he couldn't contain himself either. He burst out in laughter, just quietly enough not to draw attention from others. Eszter laughed too, wiping away her tears. "Eszter, komolyan," mondotta, miközben próbált visszatérni a komoly arckifejezéséhez. "Te vagy a legjobb dolog..."En: Gabor's face turned red from laughter, but he made another effort to suppress his smile. "Eszter, seriously," he said, trying to regain a serious expression. "You are the best thing..."Hu: Végül is, a szív és nyelv elvált útjaira bukkant. En: In the end, the heart and tongue found their separate paths. It seems that the person we truly love is the one who can truly make us laugh, even in the most insignificant moments. The tongue twister brought about shared laughter, silently reaffirming their bond. By the end of the day, Gabor and Eszter not only shared stories, but they became more precious to each other. En: We have reached the conclusion of the story: every mistake, every slip of the tongue, those tongue twisters that caused confusion, played a role in bringing Gabor and Eszter closer. These mistakes, which brought laughter and joy to the Budapest night, when the heart and tongue met to make their connection stronger and more real. This simple story, which began with a forgiven tongue twister and ended with a stronger bond, embraces the idyllic image of Budapest.
