https://cozyphones.com/ https://www.linkedin.com/in/the-paul-miller/ Paul Miller is a veteran and the founder and CEO of CozyPhones, headphones you can wear while you sleep. He has been both a licensee to Nickelodeon and a licensor to his distributor. He has directly manufactured and sold more than $10 million in direct to consumer sales online, selling primarily on Amazon. He took an existing concept and modified it for a whole new audience: Children. Younger kids ages 3-5 don't like over-the-ear headphones because they get hot and sweaty. They also don't really like earbuds. You can't lie down with either of these forms of headphones! CozyPhones are different. Paul is also a past inventRight student. He opens up about his journey as an inventor and an entrepreneur, from taking a selling on Amazon course to bringing his own idea for a new product to market. He also discusses protection and knockoffs at length. One clever way he handled dealing with knockoffs is by licensing character images from well-known brands like Paw Patrol. As he explains, copycats are less likely to try to knockoff a well-known brand. He and Stephen discuss the terms of licensing agreements from the perspective of a manufacturer. He also discusses being approached to license out his product into big-box retailers. With licensing the options can be endless. He also sells on Walmart.com. Learn more about Paul's journey: I'm Paul, founder of CozyPhones. I don't sleep well at night. I can get to sleep fine but I often wake up in the middle of the night and can't get back to sleep, so I listen to podcasts or audio books until I drift back to sleep. Awhile ago I bought some sleeping headphones. They lasted less than a year before the wires shorted out and the stopped working. I used earbuds for a short time but they became painful after awhile and it's just about impossible to sleep with them on your side. I decided to try another pair of headband headphones, but the original ones I bought were just too expensive - so I decided to make my own - with comfort and affordability as out main goal - with that, CozyPhones was born. We started with just a fleece headband version but quickly found our customers wanted more, so we added new styles and materials to fit more needs like yoga and running. Then one day, we were doing a photo shoot for our catalog when my photographer shot a few pics of her 10 year old daughter with our headphones on, using her app on a tablet. That picture gave me an "aha moment". We could make super comfortable headband headphones for kids in fun character designs. So I asked my daughter Helen, a budding artist, to come up with some characters for me. That's how we created our first Froggy design. They went for sale in November of 2015 and quickly sold out. Since then we've added a bunch of new characters and styles. We've heard from hundreds of parents of kids who LOVE our CozyPhones and we've found a great niche in the Autism and Sensory Disorder communities. We're so happy to be able provide a great solution to all kids and especially pleased to serve special need kids who struggle normal headphones. It's been a great journey so far and we're just getting started. Bringing an invention to market? Let inventRight, the world's leading experts on product licensing, show you how. On this episode of the 2X eCommerce Podcast, I interview Paul Miller. He is an eCommerce business expert, that helps eCommerce businesses exponentially scale their product offering and revenues through brand licensing. Paul’s story is quite interesting because he started off his ecommerce journey as an Amazon Private Label seller. He was able to build a thriving headphone brand on and off Amazon’s marketplace called CozyPhones. In a bid to take CozyPhones to the next level, he discovered brand licensing and has managed to secure licensing deals with Nickelodeon, Disney and Hasbro. This move exponentially increased CozyPhones’ revenue. He now teaches physical product entrepreneurs and direct of consumer brands how to successfully scale their revenue through licensing. He is offering a totally free mini-course called Next Level Licensing. Here is where to sign-up: https://www.nextlevellicensing.com/2xecommerce Cozy Phones brand.
Guest Bio Paul Miller is a former restaurant owner and now the proud CEO and owner of CozyPhones, a business that makes and sells comfortable headbands with headphones embedded inside. His products cater to children (including those with special needs), active adults, and for those looking for a way to relax before bed. Show Notes We've talked to a number of different business owners over the years, each with a different story and path to success. Paul Miller joined us to talk about selling physical products online to hit his seven-figure success. We love physical products businesses at Freedom Fast Lane, but Paul's approach incorporates something a bit different: selling licensed goods. He explained how you can tap into an exclusive niche this way. His experience gave us awesome, actionable insight into different options for your product development and sales. Paul spent a long time and millions of dollars on a restaurant business, but that didn't work out in the long-run. After a traumatic accident which broke his collarbone, he decided on a different path: ecommerce. He scaled dramatically within 12 months, selling different products. Now he's landed on a real winner: comfortable headband headphones. What really amped up his sales was branching out into licensed products. He's worked with other businesses, offering to design CozyPhones with their brand imagery on them, and paying them a royalty on each sale. This has gotten his company noticed by Disney and Nickelodeon, the latter of which has a deal with him to sell Paw Patrol-branded headphones. That was an awesome catch for Paul, in two ways. First, Paw Patrol is one of the most popular children's television shows across the world. Second, his deal is exclusive, meaning no other business can sell similar headphones with Paw Patrol branding. He's both created and cornered a lucrative market! If you're in the physical products space, you need to consider opportunities to sell licensed goods. Otherwise you could be leaving money on the table. Key takeaways: Physical products with third-party brand licensing are attractive to consumers They let you create a niche and monopolize it at the same time Look into partnering with complementary businesses for such opportunities Connect with Todd Check out Paul's company at https://www.cozyphones.com/ On Facebook On Linkedin On Twitter Connect with Ryan Find more amazing podcast discussions on FreedomFastLane.com.
