This is a free preview of a paid episode. To hear more, visit zeteo.comIt's been almost two months since Mehdi and Bassem co-hosted ‘We're Not Kidding' together and A LOT has happened since then. As two naturalized US citizens, Mehdi and Bassem co-host again, starting off the conversation discussing the Trump administration's arrests of international residents in the US who dare to criticize Israel. The two also discuss Israel breaking the ceasefire deal (Bassem compares Israel to ex you keep expecting better from) and its renewed attacks on Gaza, which have killed over 700 Palestinians in just three days with full political support from the Trump administration. Bassem also points out the inherent hypocrisy of US foreign policy throughout modern history – and how they're each coping with it (or not). Before he was the “Jon Stewart of Egypt,” Bassem Yousseff was a heart surgeon in Cairo with no online following. But when the revolution broke out in Egypt in 2011, he and his friend decided to take action, launching a satirical show that brazenly mocked the government in a way that had never before been seen on Egyptian TV. He became an overnight sensation reaching 5 million views within the first three months. His hit series named “The Show” became the most watched show in Egyptian television history, raking in 30 to 40 million viewers per episode. As he rose to stardom, detractors called for his death, and yet, Bassem continued to produce his show until it became too dangerous for any station to carry. He ultimately fled the country out of fear, not for his own life, but for the safety of those around him. Meet the man that Time Magazine named one of the world's most influential pioneers in this episode of Impact Theory with Tom Bilyeu. [ORIGNAL AIR DATE: 8-29-17]. To hear more, visit zeteo.comMehdi is once again joined by ‘We're Not Kidding' powerhouse Bassem Youssef for a raw and honest conversation about the state of the world. To steal a phrase from MAGA Republicans speaking about Donald Trump — “Daddy is home.” Mehdi and Bassem unpack the first few weeks of Trump's second term, including the escalating violence in the West Bank occurring during the “fake” Gaza ceasefire. The two also debate whether the US empire is beginning to collapse, if organized resistance movements are at all effective, and if Trump and the Republicans are more honest than Joe Biden and the Democrats. “You prefer to deal with the wolf rather than the wolf in sheep's clothing,” Mehdi asks Bassem, who also shares his opinion on Elon Musk's controversial hand gesture and his uniquely noxious flavor of South African racism.SUBSCRIBE TO ZETEO TO SUPPORT INDEPENDENT AND UNFILTERED JOURNALISM: https://zeteo.com/subscribeWATCH, LISTEN AND SUBSCRIBE TO ‘WE'RE NOT KIDDING' ON SUBSTACK: https://zeteo.com/s/were-not-kidding-with-mehdi-and-friendsSNAG ZETEO'S BRAND NEW MERCH:https://shop.zeteo.com/FIND ZETEO:Twitter: https://twitter.com/zeteo_newsInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/zeteonewsTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@zeteonewsFIND MEHDI:Substack: https://substack.com/@mehdirhasanTwitter: https://twitter.com/@mehdirhasanInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/@mehdirhasanTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@mehdirhasanFIND BASSEM:Twitter: https://x.com/ByoussefInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/bassem/TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@bassem?lang=enCREDITS:Hosted by: Mehdi HasanGuest Host: Bassem YoussefExecutive Producer: Kiran AlviSenior Producer and Editor: Frank CappelloMusic: Andy ClausenDesign: Alicia TatoneMix Engineer: Valentino RiveraTitle Animation: Ehsaan Mesghali

This is a free preview of a paid episode. To hear more, visit zeteo.comIf you've been tuning into Zeteo's flagship podcast, ‘We're Not Kidding' for the last six months, you're going to find this one is a very special episode. Bassem Youssef returns to WNK for an intimate and heartfelt conversation – one unlike you've ever seen on this show. It's also a version of Bassem none of us, including Mehdi, have ever seen before. “I'm from a very, very, very deep point of desperation,” he tells Mehdi backstage at the Elgin and Winter Garden Theatre Centre in downtown Toronto. The two met up for this special recording right before Bassem went live onstage for one of the last shows of his sellout ‘Middle Beast Tour.' It's been a few months since Mehdi and Bassem last co-hosted WNK, and with so much that's happened since then and the US elections just on the horizon, they had a lot to discuss: from trying to be hopeful versus feeling helplessness, to witnessing the impunity of Israel reach new heights, to whether the pro-Israel side can be defeated in the media or in Congress. If you're looking for a listen that will resonate, that will make you feel seen, after a very long and hard-to-watch year, tune in now.SUBSCRIBE TO ZETEO TO SUPPORT INDEPENDENT AND UNFILTERED JOURNALISM: https://zeteo.com/subscribeWATCH, LISTEN AND SUBSCRIBE TO ‘WE'RE NOT KIDDING' ON SUBSTACK: https://zeteo.com/s/were-not-kidding-with-mehdi-and-friendsFIND ZETEO:Twitter: https://twitter.com/zeteo_newsInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/zeteonewsTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@zeteonewsFIND MEHDI:Substack: https://substack.com/@mehdirhasanTwitter: https://twitter.com/@mehdirhasanInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/@mehdirhasanTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@mehdirhasanFIND BASSEM:Twitter: https://x.com/ByoussefInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/bassem/TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@bassem?lang=enCREDITS:Hosted by: Mehdi HasanGuest Host: Bassem YoussefExecutive Producer: Kiran AlviSenior Producer and Editor: Frank CappelloMusic: Andy ClausenDesign: Alicia TatoneMix Engineer: Valentino RiveraTitle Animation: Ehsaan Mesghali
As a Jew raised and Jewish blooded human - who loves Israel and comes from Zionist grand parents - talking about Israel / Gaza / is hard. It just is - and as someone who prides themselves on speaking my truth - regardless of consequences - I am embarrassed to say that I have been avoiding this topic at least publicly - on the internet - because DUH this is scary to talk about. I made like 7 podcasts after October 7th - AND I WAS TOO CHICKEN SHIT TO POST them - because I was scared / I just felt like I needed more education before saying ANYTHING that would publicly anger people more than I already do. I know. It's gross and I geuinely am embarrassed about it. HOWEVER.... let's DO THIS.... I proudly stand by Bassem - and anyone fighting for human decency - and peace. Since I could think independently - I have spiritually and mentally rejected the propaganda that was shoved down my throat in Hebrew School - and I reject it now. Being a Jew does not equal being a Zionists. I do not want to be a hurt person who hurts people. Ive been praying for the first time - in a long time - not sure exactly to what or who...for and end to this barbaric and disgusting blood drenched quest to occupy more land. It is devestating that somehow after all the "lessons" that were suppose to come from being persecuted - being Jewish is quickly becoming synonymous with being persecutors. This is a free preview of a paid episode. To hear more, visit zeteo.comOn this week's ‘We're Not Kidding,' Bassem Youssef joins Mehdi for an honest and critical conversation about Oct. 7, and the avalanche of Israeli propaganda and lies that followed Hamas' deadly attack.Bassem and Mehdi discuss and debunk a number of lies and distortions about the events on the day, from Israel's controversial “Hannibal directive,” which led to the Israeli military killing a number of its own citizens, to the the now infamous “40 beheaded babies” and “babies in ovens” falsehoods that began to surface only days after the attack. Bassem and Mehdi are also joined by NYU journalism professor and war correspondent Azadeh Moaveni, whose recent reporting went into detail about how sexual violence and claims of mass rape have been weaponized by supporters of Israel over the past eight months, and how the New York Times in particular misreported this incendiary story. This episode includes discussions on sexual violence, the specifics of which may be disturbing or traumatizing for some viewers and listeners. On the new episode of ‘We're Not Kidding,' Mehdi is joined by stand-up comedian, actor, and social justice advocate Amanda Seales for an unfiltered conversation about Palestine, and the cultural backlash for speaking out against genocide and U.S. imperialism. Amanda, who has Palestinian family members, has been a vocal proponent for Palestinian liberation over the last eight months, at great professional cost. She and Mehdi discuss the culture of fear in Hollywood - and the pressure on her own career for speaking out on Gaza - and why the term “liberal” needs to be redefined. They also talk about Jerry Seinfeld's recent interventions on the Middle East -and whether George Costanza would have been as problematic.“I just think you're misusing the word ‘liberal.' They're not progressive. You know, ‘liberal' at this point just means ‘I'm not okay with bad things as long as they don't inconvenience me.'”‘We're Not Kidding' releases new episodes twice a month, with Mehdi, Bassem and a cast of rotating guest co-hosts from the worlds of comedy, entertainment, and the media. Stand-up comedian, best-selling author and acclaimed TV host W. Kamau Bell joins Mehdi as co-host of 'We're Not Kidding' this week. They discuss the student protestors, who join a long line of American anti-war demonstrators, as well as the police's use of brute force against them. Mehdi and Kamau also examine the censorship of pro-Palestinian voices in the media and Hollywood, why Batman is politically problematic, and the cynical “defanging” of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. since his death.“People celebrate [Dr. King] as a hero and forget the part where he was assassinated,” says Kamau. “He didn't die of old age… He was assassinated and many people were happy he was assassinated.”‘We're Not Kidding' releases new episodes twice a month, with Mehdi, Bassem and a cast of rotating guest co-hosts from the worlds of comedy, entertainment, and the media. In today's episode of Slo Mo, I sit down with the inimitable Bassem Youssef, a man whose wit and wisdom have challenged and changed the contours of political satire in the Middle East. In a departure from our usual tone, this conversation takes a more contemplative and, indeed, somewhat pessimistic turn as we delve into the complexities of modern life and the daunting challenges that lie ahead. As we continue our Unstressable series, Bassem's courage to speak about the world's most challenging topics should remind us never to be afraid to take, even the biggest problems, head on. 00:00 Intro05:00 The oversized role of ego 07:36 Fame is not real11:49 Bassem's veganism12:42 The last time Mo and Bassem met14:53 Is most of humanity disappointing?18:00 Bassem's influence in the Israel-Palestine conflict21:10 Are we in an era of hyperinformation?23:45 Cancel culture24:37 Will humanity ever change?32:57 Can we be hopeful?37:56 Are we heading into more conflict?40:23 The end of the truth48:50 How will AI affect us?1:00:35 How does Bassem keep going? This episode is a compelling journey through the darker sides of our modern realities, offering no easy answers but many important questions. In 2011 Bassem Youssef was a little-known heart surgeon in Cairo. A year later, he was hosting his own political satire TV show, Al-Bernameg, drawing in 30 million weekly viewers as he made fun of the Egyptian regime. Bassem's comedy was groundbreaking but it proved too controversial to remain on air. In 2014 he was forced to move to United States, where he has since had to work to re-establish his career in a new language. Now, he's back in the news thanks to an explosive interview with Piers Morgan on the conflict in Gaza, which went viral. Bassem Youssef thinks that he's come on the wrong podcast. “People in power don't really care about any of our suggestions to change the world”, he tells Krishnan Guru-Murthy, “because if our ways to change the world affect their interests, they will stop you.” And he knows what he's talking about, having fled his home country of Egypt after his TV comedy became no longer acceptable to the authorities there. Bassem started his career as a heart surgeon, then moved to political comedy in response to the 2011 Egyptian Revolution, taking on the ruling elite in his country. His political satire show, ‘Al-Bernameg' was the most watched show in Egyptian TV history, but soon became a thorn in the side of the authorities there, forcing him into exile. In this episode of Ways to Change the World, Bassem Youssef talks about his view that Israel should be held accountable for the war in Gaza, how the Egyptian revolution was a turning point in his life, and why he feels disillusioned with the West's "lecturing" on human rights and international law. Produced by Shaheen Sattar, Silvia Maresca, Hila May and Alice Wagstaffe.
Today I'm joined by another floor-mate of mine at UCSF, Bassem Al-Sady. Bassem's lab does beautiful and elegant work on how genes are silenced in cells ranging from yeast to stem cells. He explains all the mysteries that remain about this fundamental process and that aspects of it date back to the earliest types of cells. We also talk about his innovative teaching efforts and how to improve graduate education.
[Original air date: August 29, 2017]. The future of the construction industry, more specifically how money flows within construction. In it we cover topics such financial automation from the CFO office right down to the job site, the move from a backwards looking workflow to a real-time and predictive one, as well as the industry tailwinds accelerating overall technology adoption of a $15T segment of the global economy. Bassem Hamdy is founder and CEO of Briq, a next generation financial platform to make construction projects more profitable. Briq, a 150 person tech company out of Santa Barbara, commands a significant share of US construction firms as its customers and now has expanded internationally. The industry uses Briq to gain visibility over the flow of money on a project in order to make better planning decisions and predict profits more confidently. Bassem is a rare breed, he's been in construction software for over two decades, before it was cool and before there was even an industry around it. First seeing the introduction of resource planning software at CMIC (which now handles over $100B in construction revenue each year) to then being EVP of Enterprise Strategy at Procore (a now public company) helping construction transition to the cloud. Today we get to talk about what the next evolution is. He's also one of the very few that can speak construction as authentically as he speaks technology. Subscribe for the latest episodes. Bassem Youssef approaches his comedy with the precision of a heart surgeon - a profession he knows all too well, having left it behind in pursuit of comedy. In either case, he lives in constant fear of messing up... at this point, laughter better be the best damn medicine. While selling out shows across the world in both English and Arabic, Bassem joins Dan in Miami for an honest exploration of his transformative odyssey. Bassem's journey, from despising his life as a surgeon to creating the most-watched, groundbreaking talk show in the Middle East, ultimately led to fleeing his homeland with only hours warning… all because of jokes he told about the Egyptian government. What happens when being called “the Jon Stewart of the Middle East” and a recent viral appearance with Piers Morgan leads to people pushing you to be a political activist? But between the heavy issues of politics and exile, Bassem truly just wants to make people laugh. Thanks be to the Scriptural God who spoke long ago—once and for all time—in the Syrian wilderness, long before the occupying powers of the modern world. Once again, when he spoke, he did not speak English. This point is well worth repeating at this very moment in history since this God spoke biblical Semitic specifically “to prick, sting, incite, and goad” those who are glorious upon the earth. To be fair, at the time he spoke, no one spoke English, so technically, he was not making fun of English. English didn't matter to him. Nor did French or German. Now, that is a fact, and facts are useful. At that time, the same God taught our forefathers, who were not faithful, that the matter at hand—his dabar—is not complex. We need only hear and follow his voice. Following his voice is not a sensitive matter because, in his story of the generations of the heavens and the earth, the human being is of less importance to him than the fish in the sea. More than that, in all the wonder of God's creation, the human being is only a small insignificant part. “There is a deep sentiment in the Middle East and [among] Arabs,” Bassem Yousef explained recently, “that the West [does] not look at us as equal[s].”Yousef asked Chat GPT a simple question: “Do Israelis deserve to be free?”The machine replied, “Yes.” He then rephrased the question, “Do Palestinians deserve to be free?”The machine, created by human hands, a theology of human artistry fashioned after the image of English-speaking settler colonials, replied: “It's complex.” Beloved in Christ, it is neither complex nor sensitive. For those who hear the voice of the Shepherd—the voice of one crying out in the wilderness—the answer to both questions is simple and straightforward:The answer is NO. No one “deserves” to be free because all of us treat each other like shit. There is only one God. He alone is our King, our provider, and the possessor of the land. “See now that I, I am he, and there is no god besides me; It is I who put to death and I who give life. I have wounded, and it is I who heal, and there is no one who can deliver from my hand.” (Deuteronomy 32:39) “For there is none like you, [O God] nor is there any God besides you, according to all that we have heard with our ears.” (2 Samuel 7:22; 1 Chronicles 17:20)To God be the victory. In the God of Scripture, I place all my hope against hope for the sake of the poor. Because, like you, Bassem, my dad came here from Egypt. I know that look in your eyes when you are trying to reason with stupid. I recognize the frustration that will eventually turn into dismay and, God forbid, pain. Believe me, brother, no matter how much sense you make or how hard you argue logically and intelligently for peace, it ain't gonna work. Pierce and his ilk are for war, and they don't even see it. In this episode, I sat down with Dr. Bassem Mikhael, SVP, of the Clinical Enterprise at Somatus. Started in 2016 by Dr. Ikenna Okezie, Somatus partners with clinicians, health plans, health systems, and multi-disciplinary community-based care teams to improve health, quality of life, and cost of care for patients with kidney disease. Somatus employs over 1,450 team members and serves more than 150,000 patients across 36 states. Dr. Mikhael and I discuss: 1) The vital role that kidneys play in maintaining health, the issues that arise from diseased kidneys, and how these challenges translate into per patient costs that are 10x higher, on average, than those for patients without kidney disease, 2) The traditional model for treating patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) and end-stage kidney disease (ESKD) and how Somatus' model realigns incentives to focus on integrated, preventative, and patient-centered care, 3) Why the federal government, CMS, and CMMI have prioritized investments in kidney care and what we've learned from their initiatives and care model tests, and 4) Clinical innovations that make Dr. Mikhael optimistic about the future for patients living with kidney disease.

Every Day is Good Friday | Rev. Bassem Adranly The cross is not just an event that happened at the end of Jesus' life; it is the foundation of the Kingdom of God – a whole new heavenly culture. Carrying the cross is being willing to suffer, but there is suffering because of disobedience (like Adam) and there is suffering in obedience (like Christ). Every time we choose to deny ourselves and obey Jesus, we breathe God's Life into a dying world. Readings: Isaiah 52:13-15, 53:1-12; Psalm 22; John 18 1-19, 42. --- Blessed by our teachings?
