Investigative journalists Mandy Matney and Liz Farrell share updates (1:19) about South Carolina's thrice-accused rapist Bowen Turner and his quest to get off the sex offender list, plus the latest in the (2:30) Christa Bauer case in Houston, where her husband, Lee Gilley, stands accused of murdering her and her unborn baby. (3:34) Also on today's show, Mandy and Liz comb through Buster Murdaugh's amended defamation complaint against Warner Brothers and share their thoughts on Buster's arguments and the challenges he and his defendants might face. (39:30) Plus, Myrtle Beach churchy business bro “Pastor” John-Paul Miller is at it again. The LUNASHARK Media team FOIA'd for a 911 call JP placed from his newest mid-scandal church on St. Patrick's Day. Turns out, JP — who stands accused of raping one child and sexually assaulting another — has some sort of homeschool operation happening in a rough-looking strip mall … or at least that's what he told police. Is JP running a quasi school? Or was he just saying this in the hopes of once again getting his revenge against protesters, who were filming him from the public parking lot? And finally, a quick update about Myrtle Beach Police Department's announcement that it reopened and reclosed the (36:22) Chris Skinner case. Let's dive in...

In this episode, Masie & Stuart take a (imaginary) trip to Japan to examine the 2003 Oscar-darling film, Sofia Coppola's Lost in Translation. The first part of a duology covering the divorce films of Sofia Coppola and Spike Jonze, our hosts find themselves treading in familiar Coppola-territory. How does this story of two priveleged people experiencing isolation and existential crises in Tokyo hold up today? Does Coppola portray the city and Japanese culture with care and sensitivity? The answers likely won't shock you based on her track record, but our hosts still find plenty to discuss and enjoy in the film's moody atmosphere and aesthetics. A @Christadelphians Video: Description: Many words and phrases in the Song of Solomon appear in verses in the psalms and the prophets, and in the words of Jesus in the gospels and the apocalypse. Solomon's rule was typical of the rule of Christ, on the restored throne of David. Ten proofs establish the Messianic meaning of the Song of Solomon, such as the purity of the bride and Lebanon pointing to the glories of the Kingdom. Studying the Song motivates the whole ecclesia to love the Bridegroom, to long for him to come, to welcome visitors and show them how much we care. ### Summary Exploring the connection between the Song of Solomon and Isaiah, this discussion highlights the "Paradise of God" and the significance of the marriage of the Lamb. ### Highlights -

Sojourner Truth was a women's rights advocate known best for her famous speech "Ain't I a Woman." But Truth never actually said these words. In fact, much of the Truth we know… is fiction. Depictions from different artists and journalists have tweaked Truth's legacy to fit their messages, giving her a “kaleidoscopic reputation,” according to Nell Irvin Painter, author of Sojourner Truth: A Life, A Symbol. So how did a speech she never gave make Sojourner Truth one of the most famous women's suffragists of the 19th century? And what did Truth actually say? Turns out, the whole Truth is even better than fiction. Guests: Nell Irvin Painter, author of Sojourner Truth: a Life, a Symbol; Edwards Professor of American History Emerita at Princeton University Ashleigh Coren, former content strategist for the Smithsonian's Our Shared Future: Reckoning with Our Racial Past initiative Kim Sajet, director of the Smithsonian's National Portrait Gallery and host of the Smithsonian's Portraits podcast

A journey through Southern Appalachia to explore the complex messages food communicates about the region. Depictions of Appalachian food culture and practices often romanticize people in the region as good, simple, and, often, white. These stereotypes are harmful to the actual people they are meant to describe as well as to those they exclude. In Hungry Roots: How Food Communicates Appalachia's Search for Resilience (U South Carolina Press, 2024), Ashli Quesinberry Stokes and Wendy Atkins-Sayre tell a more complicated story. The authors embark on a cultural tour through food and drinking establishments to investigate regional resilience in and through the plurality of traditions and communities that form the foodways of Southern Appalachia. They visit cafes serving cornbread and beans, a critically acclaimed soul food restaurant, distilleries, festivals celebrating Cherokee and Scottish heritage, a community center and garden serving under-resourced neighbors, and many other food and drinking venues.
