In 2021 he was awarded the Harvey Gantt Triumph Award for Lasting Contributions to Civil and Human Rights. In 2018, he was awarded the Wiley A. Politics: Dixon is the Chairman of the Charleston County Chapter of the Democratic Black Caucus of South Carolina. In 2016, Dixon ran for the U.S. Senate in South Carolina. His platform included Criminal Justice Reform, Gun Violence Prevention and Voting Rights. In 2019, Dixon ran for the office of Mayor of North Charleston. Multi- year effort for Equal Rights . Retired City of Bradenton after 30 years of service, serving in some positions from Code Enforcement Officer, CDBG Director, and Fair Housing Coordinator. I joined the Manatee County Democratic Party in 1999, serving as the precinct captain, secretary, and State Committee Woman. Helped organize the Manatee/Sarasota Democratic Black Caucus in 2003; serving as Secretary, Vice-President and in 2017 elected as President. I also served as Secretary and Treasurer of the Democratic Black Caucus of Florida. In 2005, I ascended to President of the Manatee County NAACP, serving 5 ½ years. In 2012, I was elected as Delegate to the Democratic National Convention. My election was on behalf of my parents, Jeff and Alma Baker, who were denied this opportunity or chance to be elected as delegates in Alabama. Each recognition or award received, while humbling and honored to be recognized, my goal was and is to improve the quality of life of those in the community, to speak for the voiceless and be a beacon of light for those who feel hopeless.
