Although the series vs the devil birds wasn't exactly what the Reds were needing, they still put 7 on the board this afternoon..... Unlike the Bengals. Tim and Ben will discuss the weekend vs the Cardinals, and also celebrate Joey Votto's 40th Birthday discussing his homer today and what getting him and Jonathan India back means for the future of the team. Then one of the best guests of the show Drew Stubbs joins us for a Q&A with our listeners and also to discuss his excitement over the big victory for the Texas Longhorns over the Alabama Crimson Tide on Saturday.   --   Yes, we know there are some audio issues. But hey, we tried our best. Take a look or listen as Chad, Nate, Tim, Joe, Ben, and Carlos from the Riverfront - as well as Jeff Carr from Locked On Reds, Jeff Trennepohl of Sports with Strawberry Ice, and more of The Riverfront family recounted their favorite things about the 2023 Reds, projections for the future, and sprinkled in some Bengals chatter for good measure. After the 2019 baseball season, there was a proposal by executives from the Houston Astros to contract 42 teams from Minor League Baseball. That contraction would result in almost no ties to professional baseball in the Mountain West and the loss of the Pioneer League in its entirety. There would no longer be any Minor League Baseball teams in Montana after a history of having professional baseball in the state since the 1940's, and Idaho, Utah, and Colorado would have their baseball influence significantly reduced. This podcast series serves to be an audio scrapbook of players and media members that have passed through the Pioneer League during their careers. The Pioneer League is a Rookie-level short season league in Minor League Baseball, and it is often players' first stop in professional baseball. The questions asked of these people are to reflect on their memories of their time playing and covering baseball in the Mountain West. You'll hear from Major League All-Stars like Greg Vaughn, players that just debuted in the big leagues like Brian O'Grady, guys that never quite figured out how to hit a curveball like Greg Morrison, and newspaper writers that have covered their team for almost 20 years like Mike Scherting. In this introductory episode, host David Graf talks about the inspiration behind the podcast, and you get to hear snippets from some of the interviews to come. The first full episode with former Billings Mustang and 9-year Major League veteran Drew Stubbs will be released on Tuesday, June 30th! While the infield is as locked as any in Major League Baseball, the outfield still has some potential for turmoil. Will Michael Brantley be healthy at any point in 2017? Can Tyler Naquin continue his big rookie campaign? Is the Lonnie Chisenhall/Brandon Guyer (Guyer-Hall? ChisGuy?) platoon in right the anchor of the outfield? Were you interested in hearing about the 80s classic The Goonies? Well, we went there. But we needed something positive to talk about and baseball simply wasn’t providing that positivity. We discuss all the injuries. The big name is Kyle Schwarber. We discuss who on the Cubs could benefit from that. In the outfield, we like Colby Rasmus, Nick Markakis, Michael Saunders and Drew Stubbs as possible replacements. Other injuries that we talk about are Robinson Chirinos, Shin-Soo Choo, Carl Crawford, and DeGrom. On the batting side, there were a couple kids to think about. For keeper leagues, Gary Sanchez and Wilson Conteras are interesting catchers. In the outfield, Max Kepler nad Mallex Smith got the call and have interesting tools. But if you do one thing, PICK UP NICK MAZARA. Todd thinks he’s going to be an instant superstar and in his first game, he went 3 for 4 with a homer. This guy can help you immediate, run do not walk to go pick this guy up. Todd’s bold call is ROY, future all-star, “next big thing”, just do it. Mazara’s bat intrigues all the scouts. Todd likes him as a 35hr - .300 average guy. Perhaps not this year, but he’s got that kind of potential. As always, check us out on Twitter @2020AllStars, Instagram 2020AllStars, and iTunes.
