Easy series. The Mets continued their winning ways with a sweet of the Cincinnati Reds this week at Citi Field. Chris Bassitt, Carlos Carrasco all gave length. Francisco Lindor mashed. Tyler Naquin, Daniel Vogelbach, and Darin Ruf stayed hot. This series was so easy that the Mets didn't trail for a single moment. None! After wrapping that up we talk to friend of the show Matt Eddy, executive editor of Baseball America, about the Mets farm system. He takes us through their top 30, new draft picks, Francisco Álvarez, Brett Baty, and a few sleepers. Always a great time with Matt. We close with a preview of a very important Phillies series this weekend. Hope we see everyone at the ballpark for these games! The New York Mets piled on 10 runs on Wednesday to sweep the Cincinnati Reds in convincing fashion. Host Ryan Finkelstein breaks down the sweep and also dives into the numbers behind the Mets improvements offensively post-deadline. The new trio of Naquin, Vogelbach and Darin Ruf have produced way more than the previous group of JD Davis, Dom Smith and Travis Jankowksi. Now the Mets have the best offense in baseball since the deadline and these new Mets have played a huge part in that. Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! Hour 1: Gio & Sal begin a Friday morning show talking about a big Mets win over the Braves to start their critical five-game series. Edwin Diaz got the first six-out save of his career and is giving the Mets a weapon out of the bullpen they've never had before. Buck brought Diaz in for the 8th inning and showed he was not messing around in managing this game. Sal loves that Buck managed based on the flow of the game and not some predetermined plan. C-Lo is in for Jerry one last time this week and gets us started with the Mets win over the Braves. Edwin Diaz got the save and Orlando Arcia helped out with a check swing groundout to end the game. Carlos Carrasco acknowledged that this series is important. The Yankees will face Jordan Montgomery this weekend and Aaron Rodgers went in search of pure love. In the final segment of the hour, Gio explains his confidence in the Mets offense because of their professionalism and ability to beat teams in many different ways. Sal says Pete Alonso will go down as the best Met position player ever. Hour 3: The 8am hour opens with Gio remarking that he can't think of anyone who has had a path like Edwin Diaz in New York. He was awful and a joke when he got here and now he's dominating and confident. Gio and Sal like what they are seeing from the Mets and Gio is not worried about the Braves. A chat about the Braves missing Freddie Freeman leads to a discussion about libel laws and reporters or other media members being way off from the truth. CLo returns to share everything we need to know about the Mets 6-4 win over the Braves. Sal recalls getting into it once with John Rocker at Shea Stadium. Gabe Kapler is spending time with Aaron Rodgers in crazy town and Bill Belichick did not use kid gloves when answering a young reporter's question. In the final segment of the hour, Sal describes how much he loved spending a night alone in the city with pizza and Mets baseball. Gio and Sal then discuss how much of the work they take on as fathers of young daughters. Hour 4: The 9am hour begins with Gio helping Sal prepare for a very busy weekend and a night out. They compare strategies when going out and agree on how much they love a football Sunday at a sports bar. Sal tells Gio about the time Mike Francesa took him golfing. CLo is back for his final update of the week and starts with Buck Showalter asking Edwin Diaz to do something he's never done before. Diaz converted a six-out save and the Mets won 6-4. Winning pitcher Carlos Carrasco acknowledges how important this series is and Gio and Sal look at the pace the Mets are on this season compared to good Mets teams of the past. CLo and Sal are into the Derek Jeter documentary but Gio is not feeling it. CLo has some fun at Boomer's expense and then it's time for Moment of the Day with Mr. Aaron Rodgers. In the final segment of the show, the guys preview Sal's big outing with callers at Citi Field this Sunday. We wrap up with Sal apparently being the only person who did not know one life-changing consequence of getting married and having kids, plus Sal made one decision last night with the show in mind.

Reds starting pitching has been the biggest reason why the Reds have such a bad record. Also, David Bell needs to do a better job of putting guys in spots to succeed, like Tyler Naquin. He mashes right-handed pitching but gets shut down by lefties. The Reds skipper has not done a good job of putting the roster that was poorly constructed in good positions to win ballgames. Hopefully guys like Castillo and Mike Minor coming back healthy can turn things around. *SUBSCRIBE* on YouTube and *FOLLOW* the podcast on your favorite app and on Twitter and Instagram @lockedonreds Also follow @jefffcarr and @soffenbaker on Twitter Call or text (513) 549-0159 Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! We focus on what went right, and wrong, and what surprised us both. First, we discuss what went wrong and right for our teams in this series including Tyler Naquin winning the Frank Robinson MVP for the series. Next, we talk about the biggest surprises for me. It was the failure of the bullpen for Jeff Carr, it was the success of Connor Overton.  Then we look ahead to where we think these teams' seasons might go and what is on the horizon for both of these squads in the upcoming week.  Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! The Cincinnati Reds are not as bad as we feared and it starts with the lineup and Tyler Stephenson. Jeff and Steve discuss his impact on the team, and why they are scoring more runs. They also look at the success the Reds outfield has enjoyed as Tommy Pham, Tyler Naquin, and TJ Friedl have been playing well, as of late. The pitching needs to improve, but it's not that far off. The pitching will get better starting with the Reds demoting Vladimir Gutierrez and then sending Dauri Moreta to Triple-A. The Reds should also lean more on two surprise bullpen arms, Alexis Diaz and Jeff Hoffman. The Reds are in Pittsburgh for four games against the Pirates with a golden opportunity to win their third straight series. Conner Overton is on the mound tonight and there are some injury updates with Joey Votto and Nick Senzel. Part Two of former Cincinnati Reds Hall of Fame broadcaster Marty Brennaman with Dave Lapham In The Trenches presented by First Star Logistics gets to what all Reds fans are asking after several trades before the start of the 2022 season.  Will the Cincinnati Reds make noise in 2022? The Reds moved on from Tucker Barnhart, Eugenio Suarez, Jesse Winker, Sonny Gray, Nick Castellanos, Wade Miley, and Amir Garrett, leaving fans throwing in the towel before the season started. However, Joey Votto and Mike Moustakas remain, with Hunter Greene, Nick Lodolo, Tyler Stephenson, Tyler Naquin, and Nick Senzel being some of the names looking to step forward for David Bell as the Reds will look to surprise many in the National League. Brennaman discusses how the Reds will look to compete in the National League Central.  Who are the teams to beat in the division?   Will the changes prove to be better than expected this season and going forward? Along with talking about his favorite Reds team, Brennaman discusses the players and managers who hold a special place in his memory. This is a must-listen for any Reds fan as the MLB season gets started.

The Cincinnati Reds have spent the past few days gutting the roster, but one question still remains of the current players: why isn't Jose Barrero being penciled in as the shortstop for the Cincinnati Reds? Jeff and Steve discuss this in tandem with David Bell's comments to the media about his feelings on the subject. They then expand this into a conversation about the lineup and who the Cincinnati Reds can trust to produce. They also talk about what must be going through David Bell's mind with all this teardown stuff. Jose Barrero is the shortstop of the future. Kyle Farmer played admirably at shortstop for the Cincinnati Reds last year. His performance should not be distracting from the fact Barrero should get the majority of the playing time at shortstop, this year. David Bell even said his shortstop is Kyle Farmer. This is faulty thinking...but is he really just making a statement, or is he juggling locker room egos? With the questions about shortstop now seeming much smaller than simply, who will be in this lineup today, Jeff and Steve look at what aspects of the Reds lineup we know anything about. There are so many questions that it's worth remembering the Reds have their lead-off man, Jonathan India. They have key parts of the middle of the order in Joey Votto and Tyler Stephenson. They also have a right-handed pitcher killer in Tyler Naquin. Outside of that? Well, that's where David Bell will make his money managing the Cincinnati Reds. Speaking of David Bell, what on earth is going through his mind right now? Bell just signed a two year extension and now half his team is gone. How can we evaluate him, now, when the front office isn't trying to build a win-now roster? *SUBSCRIBE* on YouTube and *FOLLOW* the podcast on your favorite app and on Twitter and Instagram @lockedonreds Also follow @jefffcarr on Twitter and @carrjefff on Instagram Call or text (513) 549-0159 Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! The MLB Lockout drones on as more games were cancelled on Wednesday. Jeff and Steve break down what happened in the CBA negotiations between the players and the owners and why they are now looking at an Opening Day of April 14. They also dig into the Cincinnati Reds lineup and tell you why they aren't the best in the NL Central, but they could be. Reports on the latest CBA negotiations by the players and owners, as of Tuesday night, were glowingly positive. The MLB Lockout was close to ending...or so we thought. Then another wrinkle was added by the owners that the players were not about to agree to, and the process, once again, got derailed. Who can we trust to report what is actually going on in these negotiations? Why does it seem as though the players were made out as the bad guys, this time around? When will we get baseball back? The Cincinnati Reds lineup, once we get baseball back, has some nice pieces. Jonathan India, Joey Votto, and Tyler Stephenson, as well as Jesse Winker and Tyler Naquin against right-handed pitchers, are all solid options. The rest of the lineup is a crapshoot. It's because of that Jeff and Steve don't see this as the best lineup in the NL Central...but it could be. The Reds could have the best lineup in the division if they make a move to bring in a right-handed hitting outfielder. They could even get a guy like Andrew McCutcheon to really solidify this group. Aristides Aquino just isn't cutting it, anymore. They also need a second catcher, behind Tyler Stephenson. However they go about filling those spots, this will be our first chance to really grade Nick Krall. The Cincinnati Reds have a solid starting eight, but not a ton of help behind them. Jeff looks at where the holes are and what they have currently in the organization that could help the Reds, should a rash of injuries plague them during the year. He also talks about minor league signings with invites to Spring Training and why one major league signing could tilt things in the Reds favor. On a roster that will be relying on players who have dealt with injuries, like Nick Senzel, Sonny Gray, Tyler Naquin, and Mike Moustakas, depth is an important thing to have. The Cincinnati Reds don't, though. Sure there are guys like Max Schrock, TJ Friedl, Dauri Moreta, and Reiver Sanmartin that have piqued fans' interest, but they're not necessarily reliable options at this early juncture in their careers. Moves are necessary, and the ones the Reds have made now come into greater focus. Today is the Non-tender Deadline for MLB as the lockout looms on December 2nd and the Cincinnati Reds have a few players that some people see as candidates to be non-tendered. We talk about Amir Garrett, Tyler Naquin, Jeff Hoffman, and Aristides Aquino and why the Reds may actually keep them instead of moving on from them. We also look at Tyler Naquin, why he seems like a roster lock, and why Andrew McCutcheon could be an interesting platoon candidate with him. As Michael Lorenzen signed with the Los Angeles Angels, and many other free agency happenings went on, the Cincinnati Reds continued their status quo of little to no movement. This seems to allude to how they will approach today's non-tender deadline. with some players due to make raises, and some of those players making seemingly easy non-tender targets, we look at why none of them may be moved on from a the Reds have established a position of immutability. Let's pretend for a moment that the Reds do make a move and look at what Andrew McCutcheon could bring to the table as a Red. He would greatly improve Cincinnati's lineup against left-handed pitchers. Imagining also brings to light the reality of status quo, though, so lets also try to squint and see the positive side of Aristides Aquino being given the platoon job with Naquin and how he can improve. The Cincinnati Reds are telling us they won't spend money in free agency and are "realigning payroll" instead of prioritizing winning. So here is a way they can maximize the value of the players they have for competitiveness in a year or two: the Alfredo Simon Rule. Jeff explains what that is, why it's important, and who the Reds could use as trade cups. He also tells you why the Reds should look into Clint Frazier. Seven years ago the Reds traded an overachieving pitcher in Alfredo Simon for the Detroit Tigers No.5 prospect, Eugenio Suarez. If the Reds want to be any kind of interesting, they will get to work on some more trades like that this offseason, and they have two players who fit the bill. Kyle Farmer and Tyler Naquin provided some nice moments for the Reds in 2021 and performed well above their career norms. These two guys could be possible trade chips for the Reds to take advantage of in negotiations. Clint Frazier is no longer a Yankee and has every fanbase aflutter with the idea of adding him to their team. The Reds should absolutely be in on this guy, despite his injury-prone past. He could fit right in to their cheap philosophy while still having a relatively high ceiling, should things work out for him.
