This week, Delawareans in the city of Wilmington and throughout the state bid farewell to former Wilmington mayor Mike Purzycki. Purzycki died last week at the age of 80 and in the days following his death and at his funeral this week, much of the discussion about his impact understandably focused on his two terms as mayor and his 10 years spent shaping the massive development of Wilmington's Riverfront as Executive Director of the Riverfront Development. But there is more to Purzycki's legacy that those two things. Among them is his work on the Wilmington Hope Commission, which has focused on re-entry services and recidivism. And it's that part of Purzycki's story that three people who worked with him on the Hope Commission focused on in a piece they co-authored last week after his death. This week, host Tom Byrne sat down with those three people – Delaware State Univ. President Tony Allen, who served with Purzycki as the group's founding co-chairs, former Hope Commission Executive Director Charles Madden and Darryl "Wolfie" Chambers, founder of the Center for Structural Equity, and a volunteer and advisor to the Commission – to discuss their piece “He Was “Enough”: Remembering Mike Purzycki."

An end to this brutal winter weather is coming. But not until this weekend. It's going to stay really cold for most of the week, but by Saturday, we should see temps creep back into the 20's. As we get back to reality today, we recapped this past weekend's Riverfront Revolt at the La Crosse Center, including Brian taking his clothes off. In the news this morning, the UW-Madison Chancellor is leaving for Columbia University, a deadly plane crash in Maine, a recall on Toyota trucks, and a Dodge County man is arrested on charges of incest & child sexual assault. In sports, the Pats & Seahawks won yesterday to advance to the Super Bowl, Giannis gets injured and will miss several weeks, the Bucks game got postponed due to the weather, the Badgers lost to USC yesterday to end their five-game winning streak, and a recap of UFC 324. We talked about what's on TV today/tonight and we also reacted to Alex Honnold's climb to the top of that skyscraper in Taipei. Elsewhere in sports, the latest on the NFL coaching moves, a Packer player gets arrested at the airport, and Fernando Mendoza officially declares for the NFL draft. A crossing guard in Chicago is going viral after he helped some kids cross a flooded street, and a teacher who saved one of her students who was choking on a burger. The winter weather is the big story recently, so we played a winter storm-edition of "Did You Know?" And in today's edition of "Bad News with Happy Music", we had stories about a guy who stole a harp & jumped in a river, some people are upset about allegedly "see-through" Lululemons, an assault with a pork chop, a new study that confirms "size matters", and a really drunk bus driver.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Ryan McClure, Executive Director of the Gateway Arch Park Foundation, joins Chris and Amy in-studio. He lays out the original vision of Eero Saarinen, a Finnish-American architect, who designed the Arch and the grounds surrounding the monument. Those plans originally included land on the Illinois side of the river. McClure says his group is currently looking at an expansion of the Arch park across the river. 'We don't know yet what's going to go there,' says McClure, but that, 'we are committed to taking all the steps to get something amazing happening on that side of the river.' He says they, 'have land identified,' for an expansion.
