Even though the game had been out a few weeks and we'd reviewed at launch, we still had a blast playing Strange Brigade at EGX 2018, even if we did get completely outshone by one of the devs playing on our team. At least we got the chance to speak to Josh afterwards about how the game is doing, some of the community feedback, and what Rebellion were planning next.
Another interview from EGX 2018 and in this one we talked to the team behind upcoming roguelite isometric shooter Beacon from Monothetic, and being published by Utomik. With the distinctive aesthetic and interesting sci-fi cloning premise catching our eye, we got the chance to talk to Arran Seaton (audio designer and co-founder) and Tay Dunnvatanachit (creative lead) about their inspirations and the feedback they'd been getting at the show.
During EGX 2018 Matt and Andy got the chance to play the first couple of levels of Arca's Path, a new VR title developed by Dream Reality Interactive and published by Rebellion. It's about finding the right routes and establishing control in strange futuristic world, and the only way to interact with the environment is by looking and moving your head. It's an interesting concept and fortunately we got the chance to speak in more detail to designer Albert Bentall about the game.
This episode we recap our excursion all the way to the NEC in Birmingham for EGX 2018, and get back to some of our usual topics of discussion.
Of the many people that gave up their time to talk to us over the course of EGX 2018, Georg Backer and Holly Pickering from A Brave Plan went above and beyond in keeping Matt and Ali entertained whilst Andy played the intro sections of The Bradwell Conspiracy. We'll not bore you with that hour because there's a much more interesting conversation to be had about how the game came about, what's driving the design style, how the world was thought up, and how they've picked some of the voice talent. There's a lot of passion and excitement about the game from the team and it's shaping up to be a great experience when it finally releases.
It's one of our most anticipated games for 2019, Metro Exodus is shaping up to not just be the continuation of Artyom's journey through the post apocalyptic ruins of Russia, but also the resolution of the events that started in the Metro 2035 book. We got the opportunity at EGX 2018 to talk to Huw Benyon who's the head of global brand management for Deep Silver and find out more about the game's premise and ethos. There might be a cheeky non-Metro question chucked in too at the end…
Welcome back to Permadeath Postgame! This time, we're joined (again) by Andy to talk about what we played at EGX 2018 in Birmingham. You can join us for talk about Super Smash Bros Ultimate, Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes, Super Mario Party, Life is Strange 2 and much more. You'll also hear about everyone's favourite post-master, Kintodd.
With the next highly anticipated instalment of the Hitman series coming very soon, Stuart Cullen and Ali Cornwall got the chance to speak to Sven Liebold from IO Interactive about everyone's favourite murder simulator. We can't apologise enough for the audio, the room was very noisy, but there's a lot of good info so persevere with the background babble (we know the culprits and will be publishing a lengthy interview with them soon!).
Join Bruno and Marius on another edition of the Monkey Tail Podcast. On this episode we talk about the games we've playing the past couple of weeks and they are: EGX 2018 (https://www.egx.net/egx/2018) Smoke and Sacrifice (https://store.steampowered.com/app/695100/Smoke_and_Sacrifice/) Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs (http://www.thechineseroom.co.uk/games/amnesia-a-machine-for-pigs/) Door Kickers: Action Squad (https://store.steampowered.com/app/686200/Door_Kickers_Action_Squad/) What Remains of Edith Finch (https://store.steampowered.com/app/501300/What_Remains_of_Edith_Finch/) Until Dawn (https://www.supermassivegames.com/games/until-dawn) Detroit: Become Human (https://www.playstation.com/en-us/games/detroit-become-human-ps4/) Thumper (https://thumpergame.com/) Dead Cells (https://dead-cells.com/)
VR games were present in force again at EGX 2018 and not only did we get hands on with one of the newest titles, Smash Hit Plunder from Triangular Pixels, we got the opportunity to speak to John Campbell who's the technical director of the game. Have a listen to learn more about the VR development process and some interesting insights on refining the experience for users.

After the events they discuss some news including the sad closure of Telltale Games and Sony caving on crossplay. Lucy has a week off the beer so it’s just down to Ben.
