The Fork In Your Ear Ep#196 June The Gamers Month (Grok Summary of Transcription 6-14-25) The transcription captures a podcast episode hosted by Tim and Nate, focusing on technical setup issues, entertainment, video games, and tech updates, with a touch of personal life discussion. Here's a concise summary: Technical Setup Struggles (00:00:00 - 00:07:56): Nate and Tim troubleshoot audio and Discord issues during the podcast setup, dealing with problems like audio hijack previews and Mac output changes. They express frustration with technical glitches but eventually resolve them to start recording. Entertainment Discussion (00:08:10 - 00:30:54): The hosts discuss recent entertainment topics, starting with the tragic murder of Jonathan Ross, the voice actor for John Redcorn in King of the Hill, killed on June 1, 2025, in a hate crime. They express condolences and discuss its impact on the show's revival. They review Murderbot, a new Apple TV+ sci-fi comedy series starring Alexander Skarsgård, based on a book series. The show follows a rogue android who wants to watch soap operas but must save inept space hippies. Both hosts enjoy its humor and premise. Tim mentions watching a Gordon Ramsay show, Secret Service, where Ramsay secretly inspects restaurants, and revisiting The Drew Carey Show during a long traffic jam. Nate notes he's been too busy with work to watch much TV. They touch on the TV industry's shift to shorter seasons and the SAG-AFTRA video game strike resolution on June 11, 2025, allowing voice actors to return to major studios like Activision and EA. Video Game Showcases (00:30:54 - 01:47:15): The hosts discuss recent gaming showcases (Summer Game Fest, PlayStation State of Play, Xbox Games Showcase, and Nintendo Switch 2 launch). None stood out as exceptional, but highlights include: Summer Game Fest: A puppet boxing game with realistic physics and Resident Evil 9, set in a post-apocalyptic Raccoon City with toggleable first- and third-person perspectives. PlayStation State of Play: A James Bond game by IO Interactive, focusing on a young Bond, and a 4v4 Marvel fighting game by Arc System Works. The showcase disappointed by not showing more of Ghost of Yotei. Xbox Games Showcase: Announcements for Outer Worlds 2, Grounded 2 (out July 29, 2025), Indiana Jones DLC, and Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade for Xbox. Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 and Solo Leveling: Overdrive were also noted. Nintendo Switch 2: Tim secured a Switch 2 at Costco unexpectedly and praises its design, despite an LCD screen. Games like Mario Kart World and No Man's Sky were discussed, with Mario Kart World criticized for lacking polish and unclear mechanics like rail grinding. Tech Talk (01:47:15 - 02:29:03): Tim shares his Switch 2 experience, praising its sleek design, improved Joy-Cons, HD Rumble 2, and DLSS upscaling, but notes issues with older Switch games in handheld mode due to CPU limitations. The Switch 2 Pro Controller is lauded for its silent, smooth sticks and customization. Nate discusses the Asus ROG Ally X Xbox Edition, a Windows 11 handheld with an Xbox mode, 24GB RAM, and a 1TB SSD. It's compared to the Switch 2 but lacks native Xbox game support, relying on cloud and Play Anywhere titles. They lament confusing microSD Express card standards for the Switch 2 and USB-C cable compatibility issues. Life Updates (02:29:03 - End): Both hosts mention recent birthdays and improving personal circumstances. Nate shares a humorous anecdote about his father gifting him alcohol despite his sobriety, and Tim discusses a USB hub failure affecting his streaming setup. They wrap up with Father's Day wishes and podcast sign-off. The episode blends technical banter, entertainment and gaming news, and personal anecdotes, reflecting the hosts' passion for tech and gaming amidst life's challenges. In this episode, we're slipping into the finely tailored suit of Agent 47 and exploring the intricate, chaotic beauty of Hitman: World of Assassination. From its elegant sandbox level design to its absurd kill opportunities (exploding golf balls, anyone?), we dig into how IO Interactive's magnum opus turns murder into high art. Whether you're a stealth savant or a creative chaos agent, this episode unpacks why this unified trilogy is one of the most rewarding and replayable experiences in modern gaming.
Its that magical time of year, when all the games are announced, and the big 3 come together! I'm talking about, wait, no, E3 is gone, but its spirit lives on, in this disjointed days of virtual press conferences. Xbox had their Games Showcase and didn't show any of the tentpoles, Summer Games Fest knocked it out of the park with Resident Evil 9, and IGN Live tried to fill in some gaps. Plus, The Phoenician Scheme, Predator Killer of Killers, and Ballerina from the World of John Wick all get reviewed.
Alex and James are back to discuss the next 007 outing - not a film, but a video game. Hitman developer IO Interactive has finally revealed 007 First Light, an action stealth adventure game that reimagines the story of how James Bond became a Double-O agent. We discuss how the studio's success with Hitman and the agent fantasy it portrays sets them up perfectly for this game, as well as our hopes and initial reactions to the trailer. Since we published our previous episode, Sony not only announced it was having a State of Play event, but that event has already happened. Thus, we have much to discuss throughout this lengthy episode, an unexpected surprise for the PlayStation faithful. In short, the most recent State of Play was a great showcase of nearly 30 upcoming PlayStation 5 games, with some PS4 and PSVR2 mixed in there, too. And -- for those that care -- more than a half-dozen of the games are PS5 console exclusive, nipping that entire argument in the bud. In the realm of Sony second party, we've learned about a Marvel-themed fighting game from Arc System Works called Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, while Tecmo Koei's Team Ninja is hard at work on Nioh 3. Elsewhere, we were given the first glimpse at IO Interactive's long-in-development James Bond game called First Light, a brand-new Lumines offering from the creators of Tetris Effect, the return of Capcom's seemingly-beleaguered Pragmata, something fresh from Grasshopper Manufacture called Romeo Is A Dead Man, a late-September release date for Silent Hill F, our first look at the sequel to Iga's Bloodstained, and -- yes indeed! -- confirmation of Final Fantasy Tactics coming to PlayStation in just a few months in the form of The Ivalice Chronicles. "No games?" Maybe if you don't like or play video games, perhaps. Other news this week includes our first look at Witcher 4 via a controversial UE5 tech demo, rumors of a native PS5 port for Red Dead Redemption 2, and more. Then: Listener inquiries! Should 'game length' be considered a spoiler? How do we feel about pinball video games? Do we ever mess with the PSN's 'activity cards' while playing? Guess what, there's another reason to question the existence of the PS5 Pro! The Sony Sate of Play was pretty solid today, and its mainly due to the James Bond game trailer. Microsoft pushes back its handheld plans, Nintendo keeps it close to the vest, and Activision has a blunder. Plus Netflix has its Tudum, Mark Hamill shares his future, and thank god we don't live in the Michael Bay Superman Timeline. Plus my review of Mission Impossible The Final Reckoning.
Nintendos næste konsol er her endelig! Denne podcast er optaget direkte fra Proshop, der holdt midnatsåbent i forbindelse med udgivelsen af Nintendo Switch 2. Episode 380 – “Gandalf, Game Fest, and Getting to the End”Fred finally put a bow on Octopath Traveler II, clocking in at a hefty 76 hours. He's now stuck in that post-game limbo, unsure what to dive into next—and somewhere along the way, he saw Gandalf, which we'll unpack. Jake, meanwhile, is still going strong in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, now 31 hours deep and not letting up.Listener feedback this week was short but sweet. Big Box gave us props for our thumbnail game, and 1blktalon chimed in with a time-stamped shoutout for Jake's "Amen" moment from Episode 378, also weighing in on Jade Raymond. Appreciate the love—and the laughs. As for the news, Summer Game Fest 2025 is right around the corner. Geoff Keighley will host on June 6th, and PlayStation is officially on board as a partner. Expect big reveals, including WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers, and a post-show indie showcase from Day of the Devs. Meanwhile, IO Interactive is gearing up to unveil 007 First Light during their own showcase the same day, teasing Bond's origin story with the tagline "Earn the number."CD Projekt Red is offering a first look at the tech behind The Witcher 4 at the State of Unreal on June 3rd, showing off what Unreal Engine 5 will bring to the franchise. Tango Gameworks is back in action too—thanks to KRAFTON—and already hiring for a new action project following their reboot.Kojima's Death Stranding 2: On the Beach will get the spotlight during a June 8th live event hosted by Keighley, with a gameplay demo and surprise guests promised. In less celebratory news, Borderlands 4 found itself in hot water after Randy Pitchford suggested that “real fans” would pay $80 for the game. After backlash, he walked the statement back with a public apology. Also this week, we learned that The Order 1886 was originally meant to be a trilogy—plans for The Order 1891 and 1899 were scrapped after poor reviews and the eventual closure of Ready at Dawn. A small nod lives on in Astro Bot, where Sir Galahad appears as a collectible. And finally, MindsEye continues to stir controversy. Developer Mark Gerhard blames targeted attacks and bots for the game's rocky reception. Whether that's true or not, the game launches June 10th, so we'll see for ourselves soon enough.Let's get into it.Your support goes a long way in helping us continue to create the content you love. The entertainment landscape shifts dramatically in this packed news episode covering some surprising wins, disappointing losses, and unexpected announcements across film, television, and gaming.Disney's live-action Lilo & Stitch continues its box office dominance, approaching the billion-dollar threshold globally while Sony's Karate Kid: Legends stumbles despite reuniting Ralph Macchio and Jackie Chan. The stark contrast between these nostalgic properties raises fascinating questions about what resonates with modern audiences and why certain franchises maintain cultural relevance while others fade. Meanwhile, Ariana Grande expands her cinematic presence by joining the upcoming Meet the Parents sequel alongside returning stars Robert De Niro and Ben Stiller. On the gaming front, CD Projekt Red surprises us with news that Cyberpunk 2 has moved into pre-production with nearly 100 developers already working on the sequel—much earlier than I expected considering the studio's primary focus on The Witcher 4. This announcement comes alongside the disappointing revelation that EA has canceled its promising Black Panther game, which would have featured multiple playable characters including T'Challa, Killmonger, and Shuri in an adventure involving Skrull infiltration and a nemesis-style relationship system. Gaming fans can look forward to IO Interactive's upcoming 007 First Light, which promises an original James Bond adventure separate from previous films.Television updates spotlight Netflix's TUDUM event, which revealed Stranger Things' three-part final season release schedule, a first look at Wednesday Season 2 featuring Lady Gaga, and a tantalizing teaser for Guillermo del Toro's Frankenstein adaptation starring Oscar Isaac, Mia Goth and Jacob Elordi. HBO's ambitious Harry Potter series has found its leading trio and assembled an impressive supporting cast including John Lithgow as Dumbledore and Nick Frost as Hagrid, signaling the network's commitment to bringing a fresh take on the beloved series to a new generation. What do these developments tell us about where entertainment is heading? After years of making bloody, adult, violent video games, the Danish video games developer we're talking about today decided to make something that they could play with their kids. We're going back to 2009 to look at a third-person action-adventure game featuring some small shinobi. We're talking Mini Ninjas. On this episode of Stealth Boom Boom, we take a look at the origins of Hitman developer IO Interactive and how that series influenced their family-friendly game. We also discuss the perceived target audience for this, and an animated series that reminds Adam of fake merchandise. Here are some of the things you're gonna hear us chat about in our review: memorable box art; samurai with impeccable eyesight; turning into a chicken or bear or an oddly-faced monkey; being spotted in the long grass; a discussion on whether you kids of 15 years ago liked being sneaky; being rewarded for murder and thus punished for playing stealthily; boring button-mashing combat (or something slightly different for those on Nintendo Wii); stopping time for a completely over-powered kill move; large, sparse areas of linear levels; a nice enough world to be in; Hiro's friends feel pointless; Windy Pants and their absolutely outrageous farts; repetitive QTE boss battles; a story that's merely there; and The Worst Witch. After all that, we take you through what some of the critics were saying about the game around the time it came out, and then we give you our final verdicts on whether Mini Ninjas is a Pass, a Play, or an Espionage Explosion. For those who would like to play along at home, we'll be discussing, reviewing and dissecting Rogue Warrior on the next episode of Stealth Boom Boom.IMPORTANT LINKS TO THINGS
