Patrick Klepek on the reality of parenting in the age of Roblox and YouTube. I listened to hours of podcasts about how screen time affects kids of all ages and how parents should manage screen time but I still felt completely unprepared for this challenge when I had a kid.  I think the reason for that is that there's a lot of reporting about how screens are impacting kids, and a lot of reporting about the research into this subject, but rarely did I encounter a conversation between parents that talks about how any of that information can be realistically applied in the real world.   This week on the podcast we're joined by Patrick Klepek in order to have the kind of conversation I wish I heard before I became a parent, but I think there's something here for everyone. Patrick is the cofounder of Remap, a website and one of my favorite podcasts about video games, and the writer behind Crossplay, a newsletter about the intersection of parenting and games. Patrick is also my former colleague at Vice, back when I worked at Motherboard and he at Waypoint. Patrick has been reporting about video games for most of his life, is a wonderful writer, and a parent. Mit den beiden kleinen Protagonisten Low und Alone wäre das die perfekte Möglichkeit, denn beide haben unterschiedliche Waffen und damit auch Fähigkeiten, die wir clever kombinieren müssen, da wir abhängig vom anderen sind. Low hat dabei einen Bogen und Alone einen Schraubenschlüssel. Doch leider und warum auch immer gibt es lediglich einen Online-Koop und keinen Couch-Koop. Dieses Spiel ist meiner Meinung nach aber für den Couch-Koop gemacht. Immerhin kann man einen Freund über den Freundepass einladen, sodass man nur eine Kopie benötigt, aber Cross-Play gibt es leider auch nicht.Insgesamt wirkt die gruselige Welt diesmal auch etwas leerer als bei den Vorgängern und so erwische ich mich oft dabei, dass ich stumpf laufe und Springe, ohne Rätsel oder jegliche Herausforderung. Die Stimmung ist immerhin wieder schön skurril gruselig, auch die Sound- und Lichteffekte tragen dazu bei. Leider ist die Steuerung teilweise ungenau und frustrierend gerade bei Jagd-Passagen. Es gab aber regelmäßig Abwechslung zwischen Jagd-Passagen und ruhigeren Momenten. Ich muss sagen ich hatte insgesamt meinen Spaß, da ich auf diese Art von Horror stehe und auch die neue Mechanik mit den zwei Charakteren ist eigentlich gut, allerdings hätte der Couch-Koop das Spielerlebnis um einiges aufgewertet.

Deze week draait het onder andere om vragen over Battlefield 6, de comeback van ‘Guitar Hero' en wel of geen foto-realisme in games De antwoorden op deze en de overige vragen krijg je in deze Brievenmaandag van 18 augustus 2025.'Crossplay in Battlefield 6 moet eigenlijk verboden worden'Een van de ‘brievenschrijvers' vraagt zich af hoe lang wij het nog volhouden om met plezier nieuwe games te ontdekken. Of hebben we bijna ons verzadigingspunt bereikt? Een andere vraag betreft crossplay in games als Battlefield 6 en Call of Duty. Is crossplay wel fijn als PC-gamers daarmee in het voordeel zijn? En moet een console-only mode eigenlijk verplicht worden? Boris, Jasper en Koos hebben er in deze video een duidelijke mening over.Probeer Elder Scrolls Online deze zomer zelf uitThe Elder Scrolls Online is een bekende MMO. Anders dan wat veel mensen denken, is dit spel, dat 25 miljoen spelers bezighoudt, prima doable voor gamers die nu pas willen instappen. Jasper laat dat in deze movie treffend zien. Binnen no-time kan hij waar dan ook avonturen aangaan. Grinden is hier geen must. Probeer het zelf eens uit. Hier tref je meer info aan over deze MMO.

Schon als ich damals mit den Rainbow Six Spielen meine Swat Teams befehligt habe, vor allem in Raven Shield, und gemeinsam mit anderen die aussichtslosesten Situationen gemeistert habe, war mir bewusst, dass gemeinsames Spielen das Beste ist. Dies wurde durch den Realismus von Swat 4 dann noch gesteigert. Leider mussten wir alle auf diese taktischen Varianten zu lange warten. Bis Void Interactive endlich Ready or Not in die Welt setzte, das aber leider nur für den PC. Bis jetzt, denn nun gibt es auch die Konsolenversionen und so wie es sich gehört wird auch Crossplay unter den Systemen ermöglicht, am leichtesten wenn man sein Spiel mit dem Epic Online Service verknüpft. Die Konsolenversion bietet all die Vorteile die auch die PC Version bietet, aber auch die gleichen Minuspunkte. Das Koop-Gameplay ist wirklich toll und es gibt viele unterschiedliche Szenarien. Aber leider ist das Spiel auch oft frustrierend, obwohl es jetzt drei Schwierigkeitsgrade gibt. Auch gibt es ab und an Bugs, wo man z.B. nicht mit sich ergebenden Personen etc. interagieren kann. Dies sind aber Bugs die gut nachgepatcht werden können. Insgesamt bietet Ready or Not aber ein tolles Gameplay welches man sich als Shooter, Fan mit Freude an realistischen Szenarien, nicht entgehen lassen sollte.
