In the midst of God's great promises to Abram, the text of Genesis tells us that Abram trusted God and God considered him righteous. In Romans 4 and Galatians 3, we find out this is the experience of every person who places their faith in Jesus as well.

Genesis 29: A Journey of Love, Deception, and Faith Genesis 29 is a pivotal chapter in the story of Jacob, the son of Isaac and grandson of Abraham, as it chronicles his journey to Haran, his encounter with his future family, and his complex relationships shaped by love, hard work, and deception. Jacob Arrives in Haran After fleeing from his brother Esau, Jacob journeys to the land of his relatives, following the instruction of his father, Isaac. At a well near Haran, he encounters shepherds gathering to water their flocks. It is here that Jacob meets Rachel, the daughter of Laban, his uncle. The text emphasizes Jacob's immediate affection for Rachel, underscoring the providence in their meeting. Jacob's act of rolling the stone from the well's mouth to water Rachel's flock demonstrates his strength and devotion, foreshadowing the lengths he would go to for her. Jacob's Agreement with Laban Jacob stays with Laban and quickly becomes part of the household. His love for Rachel motivates him to offer seven years of service in exchange for her hand in marriage. This period is described as feeling like “only a few days” to Jacob because of his deep love for her (Genesis 29:20). This illustrates a central theme of the chapter: love's ability to inspire patience and sacrifice. The Deception: Leah and Rachel After seven years, Jacob eagerly awaits his wedding day. However, Laban deceives Jacob by substituting Leah, Rachel's older sister, as the bride. The deception unfolds in the darkness of the wedding night, and Jacob does not realize the switch until the next morning. This act of deceit mirrors Jacob's own earlier deception of his father, Isaac, when he disguised himself as Esau to receive the blessing. This parallel highlights the recurring biblical theme of sowing and reaping. When Jacob confronts Laban, Laban defends his actions by citing cultural customs that require the elder daughter to marry first. Despite his anger, Jacob agrees to work an additional seven years for Rachel, showcasing his determination and enduring love. Family Dynamics and God's Providence Jacob ultimately marries Rachel a week after marrying Leah, though he must fulfill the additional seven years of labor. The chapter closes with a focus on Leah's fertility. Feeling unloved, Leah bears Jacob four sons: Reuben, Simeon, Levi, and Judah. The narrative subtly contrasts Leah's outward rejection with her role as the mother of several of Israel's foundational tribes, including Judah, through whom the Messianic line would come. Key Themes and Lessons 1.God's Sovereignty: Throughout the chapter, God's hand is evident in orchestrating events, even amidst human deception and flawed relationships. This reminds readers of His ability to work through imperfection to fulfill His purposes. 2.Love and Sacrifice: Jacob's devotion to Rachel exemplifies sacrificial love, inspiring patience and resilience in adversity. 3.Deception's Consequences: Laban's trickery reflects the principle of reaping what one sows, connecting Jacob's earlier actions with his current experiences. 4.God's Grace to the Unloved: Leah's story highlights God's compassion for the overlooked and His provision even when human love is absent. Genesis 29 is a rich tapestry of human emotions, divine providence, and the complexities of relationships. It underscores how God can use both triumphs and trials to shape His people and advance His redemptive plan.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/sendme-radio--732966/support.

After Abram witnessed God's hand of protection in battle, the Lord comes to Abram in a vision to reassure him of promises made. Abram, having faith in God, feels some distress: He believes in God's promises, and yet the circumstances before him ran antithetical to what God had said would take place. God provides Abram a sign of assurance, and Abram continues in his pilgrim faith. And it is this very faith in the promise-making God Who would bless all nations through his Offspring, namely Jesus, that is reckoned as righteousness to Abram.

Genesis, chapter 26, is the only chapter in the Bible devoted solely to Isaac. In this chapter we get a look at the actions of Isaac, and we see that he will repeat many of the same sins that Abraham did. Isaac was not a spiritually strong man. He was a man easily molded by the circumstances around him. He was willing to let them bend and shape him rather than seizing them and shaping them to his will. He was a man who had reached his spiritual peak on Mount Moriah, and then he spent the rest of his days stumbling and somehow kept going for God. So, what is the lesson that we can find in this chapter? Well, one of them is patience. Patience to wait on God to work things out as He has promised. This is a message that many of us need, including myself. The second part of the message from this chapter, that goes along with the patience to wait on God, is to trust God to fulfill all of His promises to us. Both of these lessons go hand-in-hand. In order to be patient to wait on God, we have to trust that God will do what He has promised he will do. Isaac, and actually his whole family, were neither patient, nor did they trust God to do as He promised. Isaac's problem isn't that he is dishonest, although he is. His problem is that he is not willing to rely on God. It is this lack of trust in the Almighty God that leads Isaac, and all of us, to take matters into our own hands to resolve. It is this lack of trust in God that leads us into a good share of the problems we face. It is this lack of trust in God that leads to many of the heartaches and pain that we encounter in this life. Click on the link below to hear a message on how a lack of trust in God, takes us away from Him, and leads us into the world; away from our new nature, and toward our carnal nature; and away from performing God's will, to performing the will of Satan. It is also about a loving and merciful God that will bless us in spite of our failings. None of us deserve the blessings that we receive from God. Yet, we receive them. None of us deserve salvation, yet God has provided it for us. This is a live recording of The Master's Class Bible Study at LifeChange Church Wichita, KS. Amen.
To learn to trust God completely, God leads us through a season of testing and darkness to refine our love for him alone.

TODAY'S PRAYERS: Lord God Almighty and everlasting father you have brought us in safety to this new day preserve us with your Mighty power that we might not fall into sin or be overcome by adversity. And in all we do, direct us to the fulfilling of your purpose through Jesus Christ Our Lord amen. Oh God you have made of one blood all the peoples of the earth and sent your blessed son to preach peace to those who are far and those who are near. Grant that people everywhere may seek after you, and find you. Bring the nations into your fold, pour out your Spirit on all flesh, and hasten the coming of your kingdom through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen. And now Lord, make me an instrument of your peace. Where there is hatred let me sow love. Where there is injury, pardon. Where there is doubt, faith. Where there is despair, hope. Where there is darkness, light. And where there is sadness, Joy. Oh Lord grant that I might not seek to be consoled as to console. To be understood as to understand, to be loved as to love. For it is in the giving that we receive, in the pardoning that we are pardoned, it is in the dying that we are born unto eternal life. Amen And now as our Lord has taught us we are bold to pray... Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, they kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven, give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our tresspasses as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not unto temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the Kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. Loving God, we give you thanks for restoring us in your image. And nourishing us with spiritual food, now send us forth as forgiven people, healed and renewed, that we may proclaim your love to the world, and continue in the risen life of Christ. Amen.
