I would simply remind you that God remains faithful to His covenants. The rainbow belongs to God, and it will serve as the sign that He established in Genesis 9, come what may. Of greater importance is the need for God's people to remember God's covenant of forbearance.Support the showThanks for listening! Follow us on Facebook or Instagram more info colonialkc.org

The source is an excerpt from a sermon that provides an in-depth analysis of Genesis Chapter 8, focusing on the conclusion of Noah's flood narrative. The preacher breaks down the text into themes such as the flood as "devastating decreation," God's subsequent "work in recreation," and the resting of the ark on Mount Ararat. A significant portion of the sermon is dedicated to discussing the historical nature of the Genesis account and reviewing historical claims and evidence, including a detailed account of a Russian Imperial Force pilot's alleged sighting of the ark in 1916. Finally, the sermon concludes with the "new promise" God makes to Noah—never again to curse the ground by a flood—and challenges the congregation to respond with a "sacrifice of praise" out of gratitude.Support the showThanks for listening! When I discovered that Weird Al was actually on the bill at the most eclectic festival lineup I'd ever seen ("I can see Agnostic Front and Weird Al on the same day?!?" was my initial response) I had to drop "Start a Pac-Man-related cult" from my bucket list to make room for "participate in a Weird Al pit."* This has been one of many situational exceptions I've had to make to my well-documented "Too Old For The Pit" rule. I made perhaps too many exceptions during the weekend of Riot Fest, as my ribs remain bruised (presumably from Sunday's Screeching Weasel prancings,) but I appear to have survived. Highlights that I was unable to fit into the song: 1. A dude dressed as a banana in said pit 2. A dude dressed as Jesus in said pit (I told him "Hey! I read your book!") 3. Moshing to "Ricky." Seriously. "Ricky." 4. Watching Steve Jay and Jim West occasionally take photos of said pit 5. Watching a dude on the edge of said pit explain to his teenaged daughter the cardinal rule of "someone goes down, you help them up." Felt that in my soul. Special thanks to Al, whose birthday is next week. And also to my wife, for encouraging me to go to this thing. And to MC Lars for absolving me of the inadvertent theft of his "damn, son" bit. And to Dr. Demento for the years upon years of support...it just hit me that this is the first song I've ever released that has NO chance whatsoever of being played on the Dr. Demento show. But damned if he didn't end the show strong as hell, and on his own terms. (Barry, if you're reading this, all the best in your retirement.) * Apologies to anyone who has already converted their worldly posessions to tokens in anticipation of said cult. No refunds. The source is an excerpt from a sermon delivered at a church, focusing on Genesis chapter 7 and the biblical account of Noah and the worldwide flood. The speaker treats the flood narrative as a historically valid event, discussing details like the Ark's size and construction time and connecting the biblical account to various worldwide flood myths. The central theological theme is the concept of costly faith and perseverance demonstrated by Noah's obedience in building the Ark, serving as a herald of righteousness to his wicked generation. Furthermore, the sermon draws a parallel between the days of Noah—specifically when God shut the Ark's door—and the imminent future judgment of God at the return of Jesus, urging listeners to enter the open door of salvation now through faith in Christ.Support the showThanks for listening! The source is an excerpt from a sermon that focuses on the biblical story of Noah's Ark and the Great Flood as recorded in Genesis 6:9-22. The preacher explores the question of whether the flood is myth or history, arguing that the account is historical and aligns with archaeological evidence like worldwide flood legends and geological findings such as massive fossil beds. The sermon contrasts this biblical narrative with the scientific concept of uniformitarianism, suggesting that the latter requires deliberately overlooking evidence of a catastrophic, worldwide event. Finally, the speaker discusses the themes of God's judgment and covenant in the story, emphasizing that Noah's salvation was an act of unmerited grace requiring him to express his faith through obedience by building the ark.Support the showThanks for listening! This sermon centers on God's perception of humanity's hearts and the resulting divine grief over widespread corruption, as depicted in Genesis 6. The speaker emphasizes that God's standards of good and evil transcend human subjective feelings and cultural norms, asserting that God alone accurately judges the intentions of the heart. Despite overwhelming wickedness, the narrative highlights Noah finding favor (grace) with God due to his faith and obedience, offering a solitary point of hope amidst impending judgment. The sermon concludes by linking this ancient account to the modern need for repentance and faith in Jesus, who is presented as the ultimate absorber of God's just wrath against sin.Support the showThanks for listening! Of all the great mysteries that we find in the Bible, this particular passage in Genesis 6 seems to sit right at the top of our list. Who are the Nephilim? Are these the children of the “sons of God” who impregnated earthly women? Are they demi-gods? Are they giants? I'm sure you likely have more questions, but these are the questions that I brought to the text this week!Support the showThanks for listening! Cain walked away from the presence of the LORD, and his descendants, though wealthy, successful and beautiful, will continue to grow in corruption. That point is captured in the description of Lamech, son of Cain, and his children. Yet at the same time, God's providence is working through the line of Seth to bring both judgment and mercy upon the earth for the sake of fulfilling God's promise spoken to Adam and Eve in Genesis 3:15. This son of Lamech, the son named Noah, will be a righteous man and a deliverer of the elect who will then father the nations following the devastating flood to come.Support the showThanks for listening! The provided sermon focuses on Genesis 4, exploring the immediate aftermath of Adam and Eve's fall, particularly the story of Cain and his descendants. The speaker highlights God's continued grace even towards the unrepentant Cain, while also illustrating how sin's corrupting influence leads to moral decay across generations, exemplified by Lamech's boastful violence. In contrast to Cain's depraved line, the sermon emphasizes the redemptive lineage of Seth, through whom people began to "call upon the name of the Lord," pointing towards the eventual arrival of a redeemer, Jesus. Ultimately, the message encourages listeners to acknowledge their own inclination towards sin and to seek the unmerited grace and forgiveness offered through Christ.Support the showThanks for listening! This source presents a sermon on the biblical story of Cain and Abel. The speaker dissects Genesis 4, focusing on Cain's sin, God's judgment, and the subsequent mercy shown. Key themes explored include the corrupting nature of sin, symbolized by Cain's lack of remorse and his lie to God, and the concept of collective responsibility versus individualism. The sermon also highlights how the cry of Abel's blood demands justice, but ultimately emphasizes the "better word" of forgiveness offered through Jesus Christ, contrasting it with the vengeance associated with Abel's sacrifice.Support the showThanks for listening! This sermon interprets Genesis 4, focusing on the story of Cain and Abel to illustrate human sin and God's mercy. It examines Eve's initial joy and high expectations for Cain, contrasting them with Abel's less celebrated birth. The speaker explains God's "regard" for Abel's offering was due to his heartfelt generosity and offering of "first and best," unlike Cain's resentful attitude. The sermon highlights Cain's subsequent anger as a "second temptation story" mirroring Adam and Eve's fall, emphasizing that unchecked anger and self-pity lead to greater sin, culminating in Abel's murder. Ultimately, the sermon serves as a cautionary tale about the destructive nature of sin and a call for confession, gratitude, and turning to God.Support the showThanks for listening! The sermon then emphasizes God's "costly grace" in providing animal skin coverings, contrasting them with humanity's inadequate attempts at self-covering through good works or religious duties, and foreshadowing the ultimate sacrifice of Jesus. This excerpt from a sermon explores the problem of evil as presented in Genesis chapter 3. The speaker identifies the serpent in the Garden of Eden as a representation of evil and addresses the difficult question of the origin of evil and the serpent's presence in a perfect creation. Drawing on other biblical texts, specifically Revelation, Ezekiel, and Isaiah, the sermon identifies the serpent with Satan, a fallen angel who rebelled against God out of pride. While acknowledging the limitations of human understanding regarding God's allowance of evil, the sermon emphasizes the limitations of Satan's power, which is ultimately subject to God's sovereignty. The core message is that despite the reality of evil, Jesus Christ has overcome the world and offers freedom from the tyranny of the evil one for those who believe in him. The sermon explores how Adam's disobedience brought sin into the world, while Jesus's obedience and sacrifice in Gethsemane offer redemption for humanity. This audio recording captures a sermon delivered by Pastor Jim West on April 6, 2025, focusing on the biblical book of Genesis, specifically chapter 2. The sermon explores the creation narrative, highlighting that work was intended as a positive aspect of human flourishing before the fall of man. Pastor West discusses the significance of the two named trees in the Garden of Eden: the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, emphasizing that the latter was not inherently bad but represented a boundary set by God. The central theme revolves around love as a choice, arguing that God gave humanity free will to choose to love and obey Him, illustrating this through the command regarding the forbidden tree and drawing parallels to parent-child relationships. Ultimately, the sermon posits that humanity's purpose is to love God, and this love is expressed through obedience and trusting God's established parameters for life, a concept exemplified by Jesus Christ's life and sacrifice.Support the showThanks for listening! This audio recording captures a church service led by Jim West, focusing on a detailed exposition of Genesis 2:4-14. The sermon centers on the creation of man and the Garden of Eden, addressing the common scholarly perspective that Genesis 2 presents a separate creation narrative from Genesis 1. Pastor West refutes this idea, arguing instead that Genesis 2 offers a more specific, personal account focusing on God's relationship with humanity, complementing the broader scope of Genesis 1. He highlights the significance of humans being formed from dust yet imbued with God's life-giving breath, emphasizing their dependence on God. Finally, the message explores the beauty and provision within the Garden of Eden as a reflection of God's love and a foreshadowing of the eternal home believers anticipate Support the showThanks for listening! This audio recording captures a church sermon delivered by Jim West on March 23, 2025, focusing on the biblical concept of the seventh day of creation in Genesis. West emphasizes the unique nature of the seventh day as a day of God's rest, highlighting its significance through repetition in the text and its distinction from the other creation days. He connects this idea to the Fourth Commandment to observe the Sabbath, explaining its dual purpose of remembering God as both creator and redeemer, referencing both Exodus and Deuteronomy. Furthermore, the sermon explores the contemporary struggle to find rest, contrasting it with the cultural obsession with busyness and production. Ultimately, West posits that true rest for the soul is found not in inactivity but in actively coming to and trusting in Jesus Christ, aligning one's life with Him, and ceasing from self-reliance.Support the showThanks for listening! This source presents a sermon focusing on the Genesis creation narrative, specifically days four through six. The speaker analyzes God's creation of light, sea creatures, birds, land animals, and ultimately, humanity. A key theme is that humans are uniquely created in God's image, setting them apart from all other living beings. The sermon emphasizes that this divine image grants humans intrinsic value, responsibility for stewardship of creation, and the capacity for a personal relationship with God. The message also contrasts the biblical account with other creation myths and the modern scientific narrative of evolution, arguing for the philosophical necessity of a transcendent, personal God. The speaker also discusses the meaning of being created in God's image and the importance of recognizing that every person has this image, advocating for compassion and valuing human life.Support the showThanks for listening!
