Send Travis a Text MessageIf you've listened to this show you are familiar with a couple of my Australian friends, Joel Fulton and Daniel Mummery. A couple months ago, Daniel was able to get his first sambar deer stag. In early August, he and Joel went deep into the backcountry by bicycle and Joel was up on the trigger this time. With Daniel having some back trouble, they weren't sure how the hunt would go and some doubts started to creep in. All of a sudden, God decided to give them a gift.To watch the full hunt go here and subscribe to Daniel's YouTube page:https://www.youtube.com/@thehuntersministry

Before 2021 RBO Platinum member Chad Carpenter had never hunted big game. He grew up in Nebraska and hunted a little pheasant but nothing serious. But then, this father of six, was prodded by one of his boys to go deer hunting. He signed up with Rolling Bones and the rest is history. Chad is one of our 2024 Platinum draw winners who chose a free guided hunt in New Zealand where he harvested a 600"+ trophy Red Stag, Arapawa Ram, and Fallow Deer. On this Hunt the World episode Chad tells his story to Brian and Brad - how he took each step on his journey to becoming a world-class hunter in three short years. Thank you for listening!
Kiwi Country! This episode we're in the field in New Zealand, hunting with Adam and Brenda Weatherby and their cameraman Koby Owens. Outfitter is Same Caley, who specializes in authentic, free-range hunts. Halfway through our hunt we paused to dry out, do laundry, and record a podcast about the two bull Tahr and Fallow deer we'd taken so far. Plus, our group experienced a mountain-hunting accident that should have resulted in death or at least catestrophic injury. We relate that story in this episode, and you can still hear the shock in the voices of those involved. We wrap up with a discussion of logistics: How to plan travel, rifle importation, physical training, and so forth for a free-range hunt in beautiful New Zealand. ENJOY! FRIENDS! We're at a crucial time in the growth of the show, and need all the support we can get to take it to the next level. Ever found yourself with your heart racing as a majestic deer emerges from the brush, gun in hand? Do you still get buck fever? That's just a taste of what Dr. Yannick and I breakdown in our latest outdoor escapade, complete with the thrills of stalking, the art of crafting fox skin hats, and the tactical dance of trapping in Western Australia. We even tease our frostbitten future plans to track muskox across Greenland's icy expanse. Swap your hiking boots for waders as we swim into the wild tales of two Aussies, Yannick and I, who found kinship amidst the Canadian pines on a guided moose hunt. We'll regale you with the camaraderie, the strategic calling, and the thundering hooves that led us to a triumphant harvest. Our adventure didn't stop at the hunt; join us around the campfire as we share hard-earned wisdom on traveling with your prize, the meticulous choices of an Esky, and the ins-and-outs of airline meat transportation.Pull up a chair and pour a stiff one as we recount a series of misadventures involving a cheeky descent in the bush, an elusive chocolate buck, and the humorous hurdles of swollen rivers and forgettable horse names. Our tales from the wilderness are garnished with a pinch of wisdom on traditional hunting equipment, from double rifles to the trusty bow, and wrapped up with a bow of practical advice on how to bring home the bacon—or rather, the venison. It's not just about the hunt; it's about savoring the journey, the memories, and yes, the meat. So join Dr. Yannick and I for a romp through the untamed tales of hunters and their stories. For the latest information, news, giveaways and anything mentioned on the show head over to our Facebook, Instagram or website. A week away from shooting competitively to do a little bit of hunting. Mark is living the high life hunting Sika and Graeme is eying up Fallow Deer and trying to track down a Red Stag with old surplus rifles as per normal.
Tonight, we invite Ben Richards to the Campfire to discuss his journey from a self-motivated start in the sport of shooting, to a chance encounter that led to fox hunting over dogs, and again to Fallow Deer and finally Sambar. Along the way we pick his brain about thermal optics and how they can benefit hunters in locating game.

Good day mates! I am happy to have back on the show two of my friends from Australia Joel Fulton and Daniel Mummery. These two joined forces a couple weeks back in the attempt to get Daniel his first fallow deer. We hear that story along with Joel's more recent adventures. Also get to hear about Joel's mission trip/hunt near Moldova which borders Ukraine. Great guys, great conversation, plenty of laughs, and as always...some great stories. A break from shooting matches gives Mark and Graeme a chance to go on two seperate hunts for Fallow and Sika deer. Two very different hunts with everything from 1850s muzzle loaders to 6.5 PRCs.
It's 3am on an autumn night in West Dorset and an oily blackness beneath a moonless sky. There's a hush in the cold still air but the atmosphere is thick with testosterone. A fallow buck is staking his claim, warning off rivals and guarding his does. A guttural bellow that bursts the quiet and echoes through the combes and hills. BBC Countryfile Magazine's Sound Escapes are postcards from the countryside to give you an inspiring taste of nature wherever you are. Recorded by Kevin Parr. In this episode of Ballistic Chronicles we talk rifle elk hunting in October and November. Can you use a call in October? Do elk come to a call in November? What rifles and calibers do we like? In this episode, we are joined by returning champion Brice Stanley and we cover what a person should be thinking about when planning a hunt for Roosevelt elk or Rocky Mountain elk. And yes, we talk about the Alec Baldwin incident a little bit too. In this episode of Ballistic Chronicles we talk hunting in New Zealand for red stag with Rodney Smith, an international travel and hunting consultant. Rodney Smith has helped more people hunt in New Zealand than anyone else I am aware of. He has been to New Zealand 43 times and is also an expert on the Cook Islands and other parts of the South Pacific. I have personally hunted New Zealand four times and am looking forward to my next trip. We both are, you can hear it in our voices. Jeb Sheldon is not your average college student. This Washington State University junior in Agricultural Technology and Production Management is training to inherit the family Oyster business on the shores of Willapa Bay, in Southwest Washington. Jeb sat down with me to share some of the inside details of the oyster business, including the pains and frustrations that are inevitable along the way. We get to hear some insights from the early days of Spartina eradication and Jeb reflects on his high standards for land stewardship, which he credits to his years spent watching his father and grandfather always prioritize the habitat while doing business. We delved into his role as Chaplin (basically like a priest/sheriff) of his WSU fraternity and he spoke on the ways he has grown as a result of the experience, how it can be difficult to dole out punishment to his peers, but he still does it, and how quesadillas changed everything... We talk about his youthful pursuits in the performance and sporting arts; how his passion for hunting and fishing stood in stark contrast to his hatred of the theatre arts, vis-a-vis his critically-acclaimed portrayal of the seahorse in a local theatre production. We finish the conversation with a discussion of the current state of affairs in the cryptocurrency markets, and Jeff shares some of his portfolio secrets.(Ramble by the River is for entertainment only. It is not investment advice.). Jeb is a smart guy with a really bright future ahead of him. He seems to put a lot of effort into thoughtful and measured opinions and he is wise beyond his years. I had a great time making this episode, despite the insane time crunch (I usually have 10 days to edit/produce each episode, I did this one in 2 days)! I hope you enjoy it. Fallow Fanatic Craig Chapman joins AHP to discuss the 2021 fallow deer rut, what to expect this season, post covid deer numbers, deer movements, deer habitat after the 2020 Australian fires, and tips and tricks to secure meat and trophy animals during the upcoming rut.
Episode 7 takes us back in time as we learn about fallow deer: what their ancestors would have looked like and how they would have behaved. We also enjoy some of the sounds that we hear at Knepp Wildland during present day, as we take a front row seat at the deer rut lek, a display ground where the bucks (males) show off their impressive bellowing and scenting to onlooking does (females). We watch the deer in the woodland through a thermal imaging camera to see what they’re really getting up to when we can’t see them..Many thanks to Mollie Mills for sharing her experience of paleobiology, Darren Rolfe for his knowledge about the Knepp fallow deer and to Sideshow Dave for his technical support and enthusiasm for exploring nature in unusual ways…This podcast wouldn’t have been possible without the support of some very talented people so many thanks go to: Lia Brazier for the beautiful artwork, Mat Davidson for the wonderful music and the fantastic Ian Bunn for his patient editing skills.
Jason and Buddy catch up with fellow houndsman Bear Siragusa of Norway. Being raised by anti-hunters could have sent Bear a different direction in life, but it seems to have drawn him closer to the life of a sportsman.Bear sheds light on predator vs. Ungulate hunting in Norway as well as some of the specialty breeds that allow them to hunt in rough country and still abide by some "different" size/breed restrictions. But what episode would be complete without a train wreck? Buddy asks for the type of story that will make you hurt just thinking about it.... and Bear rises to the occasion.
Environmental scientist Rowan Byrne give us an update on the Sea-bins in Howth. Dr Elena Dreosti from University College London asks "Is Lockdown loneliness making us loners"? Terry Flanagan on Fallow Deer rutting season and Jonathan Williams from Max Planck Institute for Chemistry in Mainz Gemany talks about his research into pigeons.

Welcome to Hunting and Fishing BC, my podcast about fishing, hunting and other wild pursuits in British Columbia and western Canada. I'm Robert Koopmans and this week I'm back with Jeremy Jensen talking about first steps in bowhunting. Both of us have decided that this year will be the “Year of the Bow.” We've made a commitment to hunt only with a bow and not firearms, and we have set out to gain the skills and knowledge required before this year's fall hunting season. In this episode, Jeremy and I met up with Kevin Wood, another newbie to the world of archery and bowhunting. Kevin picked up a bow last fall and dove head-first into the sport. He's practised continually to develop his archery skills and learn the technical aspects of hunting with a bow. A few weeks ago, he put it all together for a first-ever hunting trip to Mayne Island BC, where he and a friend chased fallow deer. This is a unique hunting opportunity in BC, one that allows hunters to pursue the introduced exotic all year-round. These deer escaped from a game farm years ago and are overpopulating the small island, which sits in the Strait of Georgia between Vancouver and Vancouver Island. Kevin had a great trip, and shared with Jeremy and I how it all went down … ***** Thanks for listening to this week's episode. If you want to share a thought, send me an email at info@theoutdoornarrative.com. I'm Robert Koopmans, thanks again, and we'll catch you next time.
For this episode, Alex and Simona delve into the realm of native and introduced species. How long does a certain species have to consistently live in a geographical location to be considered native? What do introduced species tell us about past populations? What is it with the Romans introducing a horde of animals to Britain? Are squirrels real? These are but few of the questions they shall attempt to answer.
